I had an amazing root veg and chestnut pie for my tea from GK. It was a feast of flavours and could have fed two people.....Highly recommended ***** I’m an exceedingly happy old Hector

Stopped by for breakfast. Coffee was excellent and scrambled egg on toast plentiful. Great choice of cakes and scones for another visit.

Popped in for a coffee and a scone after a walk in Porty. It doesn't look much from the outside but once inside you will get a friendly welcome, a lovely warm scone and a great cup of coffee, all for a reasonable price. A proper little local cafe.

Seen some lovely scones on display walking past and could not resist. However the £2 each did not include full baking time as they were still raw in the middle!

Pop in often to sample breakfast rolls which are just a wee bit different from others available in Portobello. They are of course fantastic but the venison sausage rolls or the sausage and leek rolls like traditional sausage rolls but very tasty and not greasy. Just sublime. Danny has also cooked dinner for us again venison stew - his specialty but also quiche and salads - excellent. A wee bit tight for space but great place to meet new faces. The cakes are superb also with a range of gluten free and unusual combinations that really work. Very glad of this wee gem to compliment other great establishments in Portobello. Give it a try. Five stars every time.

Went to Green Kilt for first time and the food was delicious. All day vegetarian breakfast was amazing and non greasy just how it should be in my opinion. They made a real effort and was a delight to see. Would recommend 100%.

I loved this quirky wee café ( which was really only an afterthought of this family catering outfit) Great selection of freshly made meals with fantastic salads which fairly sing on the tastebuds. I’ve eaten there 4 or 5 times already and the soup of the day with bread has been great value and super tasty. They mostly cater for outside functions but have squeezed a few tables and chairs into the front shop and have a great selection of vegan and gluten free choices. I particularly loved my sweet potato and Harissa vegan tartlet with a full salad. Also the Delish rhubarb and coconut cake was amazing and hard time believe this was GF and Vegan. Ruth on front of house is very knowledgeable about Edinburgh and Scotland is happy to blether about most subjects and seems to create new treats on the baking front every time I’m in. The Portuguese custard tarts are gone very quickly when she’s baked a batch. Dan is the chef and has a wealth of experience cheffing in top-end eateries according to the blurb on the menus and turns out first rate food. Yes all-in/all a wee gem of a place for a bite to eat in Porty and one I’ll be going back to.

I am so happy to find this place. Both myself and my partner suffer from gluten and dairy allergies (me for the last 20 years) and it's absolutely wonderful to finally be able to eat delicious, unusual dishes that cater for our needs.

All six of us loved our evening meal here - the food was superb - the scallops starter was delicious and really prettily presented, as were the other starters. The main course of rabbit was had a great mix of tastes - glazed pear and Stornoway black pudding pudding - and the seafood papardelle was was bursting with a a rich mix of ingredietns in a parsley and white wine sauce. The evening also had a lovely ambience - which is equally important. I wanted it to be a special dinner - as it was my sister's birthday -and thanks to the skilled staff and their attention to detail - it was a very special dinner which we all will remember. It felt great to be able to have the whole restaurant to ourselves and to dine in style as we did. We know that this will have entailed a lot of work to produce this memorable and high quality experience - so we’re very appreciative of this.

Unpretentious, friendly, homemade, affordable. Not easy to find cafe's like this so close to the city centre.

Last year, mum and I found Max Bakes. Mum had haggis and black pudding and I had feta and spinach. I had never had haggis or black pudding (always put off by the ingredients 🤦♀️) I tried mums and vice versa...both were delicious! This year we planned to hunt Max Bakes down, worrying he may not be here this year, and much to our delight we found him in the exact same spot! (later we found out he is a permanent fixture not just for The Fringe) We order two haggis and black pudding rolls and they were as good as we remembered! Two very happy travellers 😁

Super little cafe, welcoming and well run. Dog friendly. Menu is limited however, if they're not too busy, other options are available on request such as full English breakfast. No obvious vegan options, other than toast. Oat milk available and gluten free bread. Freshly cooked food and really nice coffee. Full of locals, which is always a good sign!
