The food was delicious and delightful. The flavours were to die for. However, I found the cutlery heavy and ugly and cumbersome. I had a delicate dessert and the spoon was larger than the dessert. I ordered a £95 bottle of wine and the wine glasses were non-Impressive … very ordinary run of the middle glasses. The waitress opened the wine and poured it into the glass without letting me taste the wine. I was rather taking aback to say the least. I couldn’t fault the food it was exquisite but the cutlery and glasses could be improved. I do hope this is considered as practical criticism. Muriel and my son Lee

Great food. The menu was very innovative and I thoroughly enjoyed every course. The service was professional, but the atmosphere was a bit awkward as there were only a few tables and the staff would just stand there and watch you eat. Overall, I'd definitely recommend.

From start to finish, our entire meal and general experience was magnificent. We were so inspired by all of the unique touches, attention to detail and sustainable ethic. Food and service couldn’t be faulted. The fact that even our pre dessert, was one of the nicest and most memorable dishes I’ve ever tasted, is a reflection of and credit to this. Thank you for such a wonderful evening ! I can’t wait to return ⭐️

Weird, stuffy - 6 tables with other random couples. Not sure why fine dining now has to be tiny, tiny portions? Can we pleeease stop this? I hate to say this, but I couldn't taste or appreciate about 95 % of what they were describing about the food! For example, there was this potato dish soup thing- they must have described about 20 ingredients and 3 layers- but honestly all i tasted was something that was just too salty! The only really good thing was the bao bun! And maybe one of the sauces. Way too many gels and dots! I hate to say this but complete waste of money and time!! Such an awkward set up too with the Waiter just hovering watching you eat- did not enjoy that!

Really good. Only 6 tables, fun menu and amazing service. In the end I don't think any of it was mind blowing in the sense of creativity, but it still felt original and was executed beautifully. Wasn't let down or disappointed by any dish. Cheese custard filled doughnut was amazing...but I guess one critique was that there was a second doughnut served later that was billed as a bao, with blood pudding filling instead, but it was still the same doughnut regardless of what they said.

What an amazing interactive experience at Condita! We were seated upon arrival, and at our table was a kaleidoscope and a bookmark. Both were clues to what was coming. The staff was phenomenal and delivered an extremely fun and delicious experience. We had a surprise menu and added the wine pairing. Fabulous wines, incredible food, and an extremely memorable evening. Definitely a high recommendation to this unique restaurant.

My dinner at Condita was delightful. I really like the little sketch of ingredients that will be present during the meal. Staff does not spill the tea on what they are and keeps you guessing. It is quite fun. The menu is full of seasonal and quality ingredients. Main course is venison which is a bold choice for protein and is handled very well. The best parts of the meal for me are the sourdough bread and the rhubarb dessert. The sourdough bread starter is seven year old or so. The bread is not too dense with great crunch. It goes well with the two types of butter presented. Goat butter is becoming my favorite. The dessert is probably of the greater ones that I have had in a while. Service balances well between seriousness and entertainment. The two gentlemen do phenomenal jobs of serving and conversing. The space is smaller but is well decorated. Wine pairing is delicious.

Intimate fine-dining, quintessential. It's not every day that one has a chance to dine at a Michelin rosette restaurant, at least for me. I am very grateful to have had experience at Condita; what could have been an intimidating night alone, service took well-care of me. Since every menu is new each night, if I mentioned my favorite, it may not even be made again. I'm not a huge fanatic of sweetmeats, but after a one particular course, I suddenly like venison heart. Well worth the price, especially with the wine pairing. I'm so happy I treated myself, and am grateful for their hospitality.

This is a difficult review to write. There is not sufficient surprise element in the menu to qualify calling it a surprise tasting menu. Food was good, not great, lack of good temperature for winter dishes, beautifully presented but lack of original form of ingredients to give textures. Portions are SMALL. Even as a solo diner, I had all the bread to myself, I still felt there was a void in my stomach after the meal. The mains, cod and partridge, were warm, not as hot as I would have hoped for winter dishes or for mains, and fairly small, too. No non-alcoholic beverage to choose from, opted for their recommended sparkling tea and then fresh mint tea after dinner, just averaged and not impressed. Taking into account the price tag of over £200 per person, I would struggle to give even 4 stars for value for money. Not a fan of hand-drawn menu and temporary pop-up venue interior, the gimmick did not work creating a cold setting with a lot of hard surfaces especially at this time of the year. The semi-open kitchen concept to make the working chef visible was an interesting setup but leaving the food too long on the presentation table meant food was meant to be served chilled. Without some proper heat, food was not able to release their natural aroma on the table.

We immediately knew we were in safe hands when we walked in from the bitterly cold evening. The welcome, the decor, the furniture, the music and the whole feel of the place exuded a restrained confidence, competence, style and good taste. We were delighted but not surprised to discover, as the tasting menu proceeded, that the food reflected the same qualities. Quality ingredients perfectly cooked and beautifully presented are the starting point, elevated by the use of surprise ingredients and clever combinations. The food is smart without being fussy or pretentious. The wine pairings were excellent and in two or three cases inspired, taking the food to another level, almost as if they were another ingredient. Patrick, the restaurant manager who served us both the food and wine, was knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. It was altogether a lovely evening and a gastronomic delight.

Wow! We were just blown away by our dining experience at Condita. The food was out of this world and perfectly put together. Each course was so individual and there wasn’t one we didn’t like. We also had the wine pairing and enjoyed learning all about them from the sommelier. We could not fault the staff - their service was perfect. The atmosphere was also just right and made for lovely surroundings in which to spend an evening. We’ve had Michelin star dining experiences before but this has to be our favourite. You must go!

I can understand why this restaurant earned a Michelin star, but I think this is the weakest one in Edinburgh. The good: > The space is nice enough, and I liked the art and installation aesthetic, along with the hand illustrated menus. > The food was enjoyable, and managed to avoid the frequent scourge of salty butteriness often used to excuse the lack of subtle flavour. > The menu was well balanced and managed to present a relatively high variety of vegetables cooked in a selection of ways to emphasise texture and technique. The bad: > The portions are particularly small, even for tasting menus, to the extent they clearly felt self conscious so served multiple snack courses together. This meant a 10 course menu, turned into about 8. A low point was Cod equivalent to half a fish finger or the 1/3 of a partridge breast each. > Despite being 8 courses, the pace of service felt slow. They use a finishing kitchen visible outside the main kitchen, and on several occasions food sat finished but neglected for 20 minutes while the staff discussed upcoming events. This compounded the angst of such small portions. > The food menu had some nice elements, but the paired wines were very disappointing. Michelin restaurants always are keen on the rarer or more unusual (gimmicky) type wines, but this was another level. I've never been disappointed by 4 of 5 wines offered with a meal, but following a rather nice (and fairly unusual champagne) we were offered dull, flavourless glass after glass. It may be petty, but the rivals would offer 6 or 7 glasses with 10 courses which would be far more enjoyable. Their wine menu clearly has some good wines, but the ones paired were disappointed to the extent I resented. I remarked that a couple of the wines were entirely lost with the [moderate] flavours of the dishes, and the disinterest of response made it appear that they simply didn't care (or were trying to prioritise getting rid of the bad stuff). This is not a bad restaurant, and the staff were friendly enough to make a pleasant evening, but I do not think I'd visit again until I'd exhausted every other star in Edinburgh. If I was wanting to spend £250 pp, I'd be disappointed by all the negatives and would expect with high confidence not to encounter them at one of their rivals.

Absolutely outstanding tasting menu with first class quality food and wines. The staff were friendly and extreme knowledgeable, it was hard to pick a favourite dish as they were all first class with a great amount of work and effort going into the preparation of each. The menu was fun, it was in picture format and included a picture of an elect from each dish, this sparked plent debate as to what the different courses would be. I would highly recommend and will most definitely be back.

If you are a penny pincher or a control freak stay away. One of the other reviewers on here posted a one star review - and from her perspective she was completely justified in her rating. This is a Marmite kind of place, and it may well not work for you. If you are able to relax into it, and let the menu take you on a surprising journey; the food and service here is sublime: the team are charming attentive and well-informed - and will suggest unique wines that pair perfectly with the food. After 3 hours and 10 courses we left contentedly fed, not full to bursting; with great memories of each course etched in our mind. As sophisticated a menu as Pujol in México City, as welcoming a team as Sabor in London. A delight.

We ate here last night and it does definitely deserve its Michelin star. We opted for the vegetarian and pescetarian tasting menu with wine paired to each course. If I was to taste each element out of ten then it would be this: Food: 10. Wine Pairing: 10 (the best ever). Staff: 10. Decor: 5 (the place could use a good interior design architect - speak to me if you want advice on this). We've eaten in dozens of Michelin star restaurants and some have disappointed but Condita surpassed my expectations. The food and wine were overall amazing. My complements to whoever paired the wine with the food. You nailed it! It's a real shame about the decor and lighting. The place is really crying out for a good designer but it takes nothing away from the amazing food and wine.

Visited on 14th August with friends, had to be booked months in advance by our friends......the outcome is that it was well worth the wait. It was probably one of, if not the best, dining experiences. From the moment we arrived through the numerous courses and accompanying wines, we had excellent service from all the staff. We had one at our table who wasn't a fish lover , which condita accomodated in advance, however on the night a change of heart decided to be adventurous and try some of the fish dishes, the staff were excellent, after describing what was ahead on the night, (without giving too much away) that they could modify the dishes for the braveheart who would try some of, or parts of, the fish dishes, it was excellent customer service making a number of changes to certain dishes at the last moment with no fuss....each and every dish was excellent, presentation, taste and service spot on. Fantastic evening. 4 extremely happy customers. Well done

We were super excited to try this Michelin Star restaurant, we've been in quite a few, so we knew what to expect. Unfortunately our experience wasn't memorable, apart from the staff that was really nice.First, the atmosphere, the restaurant is not cozy at all, empty walls (with some blue paintings), no music, tables aren't well decorated, and chairs not really comfy (specially if you stay there 3hours), not a michelin star ambient TBH. The menu, is not written, so you don't have any idea what you're eating, because you can't remember all the dish description...Then the waiting among dishes... we waited for more than 40min between the mushroom dish and the meat (this latest one arrived in two times with another 20 min delay in between them...) because of the delay in the kitchen...) with only 4 tables and 8 guests, you can't have guests waiting 40 min and then another 20 min (so basically an hour without eating anything at all...)Then the food... apart from the snacks and desserts, dishes are average, especially for a michelin star restaurant, nothing WOW, and one thing is to have Scottish ingredients, and the other that a main is a chicken leg and another one is mushrooms, and as a starter (onion and potato), the most basic and cheap ingredients... the sauce of the meat, wasn't creamy indeed it was quite liquid and vinegar / wine flavour (meaning that due to the delay in the kitchen maybe they didn't prepare as it should be). We know how a tasting menu works, and here some of the mains were smaller than snacks, first time we went to michelin star or tasting menu restaurant and we ended the night hungry (the 1h waiting didn't help, that's for sure)Drinks... not soft drinks, not beers, (only a tea as soft drink), plus when they offer at the beginning the first glass, they bring 3 bottles to the table asking you to chose (thought it would be complimentary) as we never saw the drink menu until later, and no... £13 per glass, that you didn't even had a chance to check first .... (it feels like a trap, to increase the ticket). If it's not complimentary, they should offer you first to review the drink list and then they can suggest if you want a champagne, not that they bring 3 bottles to the table (you choose withouth seen the prices) and then voila...Definetely not a place to come back and, of course not to recommend, it should be reviewed which restaurants get a michelin star, because it's not only about the way of cooking food, it's also the service (40 + 20 min delay...), the atmosphere, the quality of the ingredients and the value for customers (you can't offer drinks without saying that you'll be charged for them, becasue you need to show the drinks menu before).

I recently visited Condita with high expectations. This is the 3rd tasting menu I have done in Michelin Starred eateries so knew what to expect. The food was beautifully presented and prepared - the portions were very small even for a tasting menu but it was delicious. It is not the food I had an issue with - the food deserves the michelin star. The dining experience however was disappointing. The restaurant itself is nondescript. White walls, tables so close that you listen to other conversations, no music, no atmosphere. As a non wine drinker there is no other option of drink or you. I asked for drinks menu - there isnt one. I asked for a soft drink there wasn't any except water. At 10.15pm we still have 3 courses to eat and we were told they had booked a taxi for us for 10.30pm so our last 3 courses were eaten with 2 waiters hanging about table waiting for us to eat them as quick as possible. In 15 minutes we ate 3 courses, paid bill and was put out of door any chance of tea/coffee being offered or being able to enjoy the end of meal was out of the question. At £165 pp for food and drink menu I expected an experience instead everyone in my party left feeling deflated and disappointed. Someone described it as he emperors new clothes story. Just because everyone is saying its outstanding doesn't mean to say it is.

Choosing this restaurant for our 20th wedding anniversary dinner, my wife and I found Condita all that it was reputed to be. The food was sublime, service attentive and ambience an appropriate mix of muted (high ceilings help) and buzzy. The wine pairing was a good but the food was the star of the show, with each course being being tastier and more delicate than the last. A personal highlight was a delicious cake / bun which was one of the best desserts I've eaten for many a year. Coming out of lockdown and not having eaten in a restaurant for so many months we thought we would treat ourselves. The problem we now have is what do we do next. Nothing is going to match the experience we had here. Each "surprise" course was utterly divine. We loved the starter dish. When the second course arrived we said "that's the favourite", repeated it with the third, then fourth, fifth, sixth and kept going. When we got to the twelfth, we gave up. Think the experience is going to stay with us, until we can save up and come again. Right cancel the holidays and rebooking right now !

Wow! Stunning food, beautifully presented and with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Not as formal as some fine dining experiences (which we enjoyed), and lovely to be able to see a bit of the kitchen. Highly, highly recommended, can't wait to go back.

The interior is beautifully minimalistic and changes seasonally, and although it only has 8 table covers, the restaurant itself isn't too small. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted with a smile and got our first glimpse of the intimate evening that would follow. Our table was right next to the kitchen (the best table in our opinion) which allowed us to watch the expert chefs plate up our dishes right in front of us. The menus are designed and hand-drawn by members of the Condita team which adds both a personal touch and an air of mystery! Each picture represented a key ingredient from each of the dishes on the surprise 8-course tasting menu. This made things even more exciting as it allowed our imaginations to run wild trying to guess what amazing foodie combinations would arrive in front of us next. The food is everything you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant, outstanding flavours, beautiful presentation and when it came to the wine pairing, every glass we had complimented the flavours of the course it was paired with perfectly (and usually we're quite picky!).

I feel a bit mean only giving this restaurant 4 stars, and I would have but for one dish, it was a potato jelly production that unfortunately I simply found unpleasant, In fact I didn't manage to eat it which for a gluttonous truffle hound like me is almost unique.Everything else was superb and I was very pleasantly surprised when presented with the bill. Excellent VFM.Will definitely revisit and hopefully be able to award the full 5 next time.

Wow - that was an amazing dinner! Every plate was beautifully presented & delicious. Loved every mouthful. The biggest success of the evening was when my rhubarb hating husband announced the final rhubarb based course was the best pudding he’d ever had! Maybe needs some low volume music because the white noise of a fan distracted me a tiny bit but not enough to drop a star. Highly recommend!

Where to start? We visited here for my wife's birthday after hearing good things, and we were certainly not disappointed. Fantastic service all night, warm and personal, all in lovely surroundings coupled with a relaxed atmosphere. We went for the 8-course surprise tasting menu, with a beautiful white wine as recommended by the owner Mark. We loved the cryptic menu (see photo) but we could not have second guessed that we were about to have some of the best food we have ever had. Every course perfectly presented and absolutely bursting with flavour and invention. We would struggle to highlight any one course as a favourite such was the level of what was served. A big thank you to Mark and his team. We cannot wait to return. Highly recommended!

Mid week, there were only couples and not all the tables were full. Well, that was a surprise because we booked ages in advance and we assumed tables were impossible to get. Perhaps a few more tables of 4, or of more than zero, would have produced a slightly less spartan atmosphere. So, go and and there!Mussels on an edible shell were a fantastic start, and after a number of "courses" (think "amazing mouthfuls" instead and you'll be closer to an accurate term), there was another highlight, the final pudding, perhaps with a carbonised lattice I can't quite remember. Definitely a dining experience - the sort of thing I really enjoy about once or twice a year.

Visited here with my wife and was not disappointed. A nice warm greeting on arrival and had a nice table on the lower area which was perfect. Great wine selection and for being Michelin Star was very reasonable prices and there is a wine pairing also but we only really drink white so just orders a bottle. No menu for the food as it’s a surprise tasting menu only and unfortunately the artist who draws the pictures for the menus couldn’t make it in due to bad weather (can’t be helped, but staff noted our address and said they would get one sent to us). The food was outstanding, every course was a hit especially the roe deer, melted in your mouth. The decor is very minimalist but helps for a very relaxing evening, no back ground music and the chefs are prepping the food in the corner and even serve some of the food to your table. Only 7 or so tables so makes for an intimate dining experience. Staff were very friendly and tentative. Restaurant was spotless and so were the bathrooms. All in all an amazing evening and for me well priced. Will hopefully be making a return visit.

I had dinner in this restaurant a couple of days ago: welcome was not very nice from a young gentlemen (did not catch his name) however the owner, Mark, was absolutely fantastic and provided us a proper 5 star service. We had the 5 course dinner with the wine pairing and food was great, not the best pairing tho. Courses are very tiny but adequate to a Michelin star restaurant.

I can't describe how an amazing restaurant that is. I am a super picky person that doesn't eat fruits, onions or any mayonnaise based sauces and that was the first time in years that I pleasantly ate the above without any hesitation. Every course was cooked to perfection. We started with a canape of mussels on an edible shell and finished with an apple mousse with pistachios and chocolate.

We visited Edinburgh for a week and I can certainly say that Condita was the best restaurant we dined at. They offer a bookmark with hand drawn clues of their courses which is a very unique and fun way to present a menu. The food and wines were excellent and definitely some of the best we ever had. I would highly recommend to anyone that likes fine dining and at the same time is looking for a unique experience. Well deserved star especially if you consider that they have only two chefs. We will definitely be back.

Roger and I knew we would love our first dinner at Condita: we had enjoyed 21 consecutive days of the cooking of Head Chef Connor Toomey at the Isle of Eriska Hotel in 2017. He was awarded a Michelin Star there, and gained one at Condita with remarkable speed. His skill has grown even greater with the passage of time and the free hand he enjoys at Condita, inspired too by its brilliant Founder and Director Mark Slaney. This is a very special place, with six tables in an elegant and well-lit room, spacious and comfortably arranged and without any piped music. Welcome by Mark and personal service by his team were extremely friendly and efficient. You are asked if you have dietary requirements, but then whether you will choose five or eight courses, each small in size, extraordinarily well-executed, not overly fussy and extremely delicious. Each course was a surprise! We chose the flight of wines, mainly French, Italian and Spanish, including a very good champagne, all of which came from small producers and some sold in very limited quantities. Sommelier Joshua Mullock was passionate and eloquent. Condita is a wonderful place to enjoy food and wine in a perfect and innovative restaurant.

Wonderful restaurant on the south side of Edinburgh serving 8 course gastronomic delights with wonderfully matched wines. Service is excellent as is the preparation of the tasting menu. Condita is one of those no menu places. Owned by fine dining consultant, Mark Slaney, their head chef is Conor Toomey, formerly of the Isle of Eriska Hotel. Before taking charge of the kitchen at Eriska, Conor was executive chef at Amberley Castle at Arundel, head chef at Storrs Hall at Windermere and head chef at Coworth Park, Ascot. All of these held a prestigious 3 Rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide.

It requires advance reservation. We booked it a week in advance It was previously a library and was turned into a tea café We were three people, and the place was elegant and quiet, and the people working in the place were nice and helpful, and we chose afternoon tea. It is a stand containing a simple collection of citrus fruits and sweets And two pots of tea The price was as shown on the invoice, £65.

We visited here for dinner on Thursday evening. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The starters of pork cheek and scallops were excellent.
