This is a singularly different little tea room. It is actually an antique shop and tea emporium which has a very limited capacity for guests, so booking is advisable. Off the main drag of Princes Street and Royal Mile, but well worth the effort if you like tea. The choice of tea runs into pages, accompanied by a history of tea and advisory tit-bits. The choice of tea foods is limited to scones and a cake, with a special tart at the weekend. It is made up for by the quality of the cake, the delightful presentation using vintage cloth and crockery and the well informed service. The Dundee cake was a generous individual cake and the scones were freshly baked. The piece de resistance for me was the accompaniment of French made rose jam which tasted amazing. The proprietor, Cedric then offered a taste of violet petal jam, also French made from the perfume making areas of the south. Needless to say it tempted us into purchasing jam, loose tea and trying some chocolates. One draw back is the lack of bathroom facilities and limited space, but offset by the experience. Not one for parents with young children if you want to enjoy the experience.

I wouldn't have found this place myself, it's off my usual beat in Edinburgh, but a visiting friend booked us in. It's outside the city centre in a very mixed shopping area (quirky and quite studenty) on a busy bus route, and the frontage is blink-and-you-miss-it tiny. There are two little rooms, the front one with the counter, lots of tea containers and two tables at which five people would be the absolute maximum. The back room has seating for up to another five, crammed in between the antiques they have for sale - furniture, china and curios. The menu is an awesome list of rare and lovely teas, extending to several pages with full descriptions, and there is a hilarious insert sheet with a few lines mentioning cakes and scones. No prizes for guessing the main focus of this place! But when my friend booked she requested a gluten free cake and one was put aside for her, a chocolate orange tart which she pronounced absolutely delicious. I had a scone served with proper clotted cream and a choice of jams - the raspberry jam I chose had two whole raspberries in it so was clearly top notch. After consulting with the waitress we couldn't decide which to have, so we had three different teas between us. They arrived in very large glass teapots with separate infusers and cut glass bowls to put them in when brewed. Tea cups and saucers were antique china, of course. All the teas were for sale and I took home small packets of the two I had drunk there. They also sold lovely looking chocolates, and of course antiques. The music was mellow jazz and there was no customer bathroom facility, please note! After all that tea, you need to have a plan B so that where you go next have a loo!

Tea is it's speciality and therefore there is a fairly extensive and varied tea menu. The scones we had were home baked and very good but the rose petal jelly was the pièce de résistance .. wonderful. Beautiful little place on Clerk Street, and quite below the radar, despite its very public location! I've passed the shop countless times, and never stepped in until today. And I'm glad I did. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the beauty of the shop, and the cosy atmosphere. As the name suggests, there are antiques and teas everywhere, and it's really a pleasant experience to step inside. There aren't a huge amount of tables, so perhaps best to book in advance, but we were lucky to get a table for two right beside the counter. This meant I had the gorgeous tarts and scones in front of my eyes the entire time. What else could I do but, you guessed it, order a scone with clotted cream and jam to go with my tea?The tea selection is immense. Mary simply adores tea, so she was really in her element at Anteaques. We ended up choosing a seasonal Pear and Caramel tea, along with a scone each. A pot of tea is £3.20, which may be a little expensive, but it is big enough for two- we each got three cups from the pot, so I was happy with the value. The tea was delicious, and the scones went down a treat!Afterwards, whilst Mary analysed the tea selection, I took a quick look around the store, and it's really beautiful. The antiques selection is great, and the calming music playing in the background was also a nice change to the hustle and bustle of the streets outside. Part of me wishes the place was slightly bigger, though another part is happy at the cost nature of it all, and the selection of edible treats isn't huge (but what they do have looks and tastes great!).Mary ended up buying some vanilla chai loose leaf tea to take home, and I have no doubt we'll be back!

Filled with knick-knacks there's plenty to catch your eye or spark a conversation. The tea list is extensive- so there's no reason not to try something new! I went for a pot of the cinammon anise rooibos from South Africa - which was deliciously sweet. My fellow diner went for a pot of the raw Chinese pu-erh tea. The level of service was excellent with really friendly, attentive and professional staff. The prices were also very reasonable. A hidden gem and a must visit for those living or visiting Southside.

I discovered AnTEAques 5 years ago and sadly only can visit when working in Edinburgh. Situated a mere 10 mins walk away from the centre, it's easy to miss even if you're looking but so well worth all and any effort you put in. With only 5 tables, book. Be enthralled by the lists of wondrous teas all knowledgeably known by Cedric and Andrew. Delight at Andrew's hand-made, own-recipe cakes and tarts. The green tea cake is sublime. And if that wasn't enough...there's no rush. Sit, enjoy, relax and then browse. Browse the establishment because everything is for sale. From the tea set you drink from to the operatic chandelier nestling in the corner and Cedric only picks quality. Nothing is outrageously priced and everything is so desirable. I don't mind that everybody gets to know about this place...they can't and don't want to cram you in. Take your turn, your time and enjoy a genuine pleasure.

This is by far the most unique and interesting tearoom experience I have had. It took me about 20 minutes on foot to get to Anteaques from Waverley station but it was definitely worth the visit. The interior of the tearoom resembles that of a Victorian tea house and has a cosy and romantic atmosphere. Anteaques offers an extensive range of teas varying in flavour and quality. I had the Margaret's Hope, as well as the Vanilla Tea (which came in fancy glass teapots), accompanied with scones and the green tea/matcha cake which were served in a three-tier cake stand. I also tried the violet jam which had a light flowery scent to it and was less sweet as compared to the strawberry jam. I would definitely encourage all tea-lovers to give this place a try for the unique experience and the affordable prices. Booking is advised as seating is extremely limited. Also good to bear in mind that this place does not have washroom facilities.

This is by far our favourite place for tea in Edinburgh. It's small but very comfortable, with an eclectic antique decor - it reminds me of having tea with my friend's gran in her Victorian parlour. Every space in the back is filled with lovely antiques which are all for sale. The tea list is extensive as is the owner's knowledge. We've tried to taste new teas on every visit, even though we've developed clear favourites from the selection. The cakes are delicious, and the home-baked scones are served with generous servings of clotted cream and preserves. The owner is always friendly, and greets us as prized "regulars" even though we don't get to visit his shop as often as we like. The only drawback is that this shop is only open from Friday to Sunday, so it can be difficult to get a table but it's well worth it. The tea selection is impressive, the best in the city, so you will find the type of tea you are looking for. There aren't many snacks other than scones and sweets so don't go in looking for lunch. This really is a tearoom first and that's what makes the shop so excellent.I was in Anteaques with my Granny and we really enjoyed ourselves. Fancy having a good tea and cakes in an antique shop, perhaps buying the tea-cups you've just used? ;) Excellent tea and lovely atmosphere! Would go back anytime!

Loved this little shop and tea stop! We had both tea and purchases. We bought a silver plate milk and sugar bowl holder and ceramic set to fit! A wee gem in a bustling city!

Endroit maaagnifique !

I love love love Anteaques. I've been coming here for about 4 years and it never disappoints. The tea is great and there's an excellent range of different ones to try, and the scones and chocolates are amazing. Try the rose or violet jam for something really unique! They also sell loose-leaf tea at pretty good prices. I love the tea-themed antiques too, with all kinds of sets of cups and milk jugs and pretty cutlery.

Anteaques is, quite simply fabulous. It is a combined tea room and antiques shop, with a few tables so booking is a must. The tea selection is wonderful, from black to green, white, fruit infusions and flavours. Recommended: blue lady, vanilla chai, chocolate and violet petal. The cakes and scones are incredible; my usual is a fruit scone with raspberry jam and clotted cream. The guys there are so friendly and lovely and best of all, it won't break the bank.A delight.

I've been to Anteaques many times and every time has been a joy.Although very limited opening hours and such a tiny space for tables, the shop is the ultimate in beauty. A trove of curios, beautiful antiques and luxurious crockery. Soothing music- jazz, Edith Piaf or classical. The tea is FANTASTIC. The staff have great knowledge, the varieties are extensive and well priced, served to perfection with attention to every detail. Cakes, of an older-fashioned nature, are delicious and suited to the surroundings and the tea. No brightly coloured, sugary cupcakes but perfectly crafted Dundee cakes, green tea savirins and scones. The chocolate truffles are a glorious finishing note to a perfect experience. Please never stop!

I went here with my wife. The day before we had visited a whisky distillery, so I thought let's do something for you! Full disclosure, I do love antiques, so I was open to the idea. However, the food and tea is quite smashing. The antiques here are really nice, and I bought a reasonably priced print of the Shetland Islands. Also, I witnessed someone come in and tell the nice employee working that she was looking for something special for a whisky decanter. The employee skillfully showed her all their inventory, and was able to find the perfect gift! I will say that it is probably best to book ahead of time, as space is limited. My wife and I were able to walk in and get a seat, but we came at an odd time.

Anteaques is a a cosy, traditional tea shop on Clerk Street in the southside of Edinburgh, and it's a real find. I didn't know of it's existence until fairly recently, and having moved to this area of town I thought it was worth checking out. It's lovely! You're spoiled for choice with the teas, they have a selection of green tea, black tea and infusions and are really happy to help if you're feeling indecisive. I had the almond black tea which was lovely; slightly sweet without being overpowering. It isn't a big place but the tables are far enough apart that you can have a private conversation and the baking is top grade. What really ensured I would go back were the people that worked in there, who seem to enjoy there job and also to really like people. A few friends of the person who I assume is the owner came in and out during our visit and it gave the place a really nice atmosphere, as you could tell it was well loved. Can't think of anywhere better to go for tea in Edinburgh. To top it all off we had two large pots of tea, a scone and a tarte for about £10 which is pretty cheap in this city.

Visited here with my son and daughter in law. My daughter in law loves her teas and often calls. We sat down to cake and tea amongst an assortment of antiques! Delicious and served by two very pleasant gentlemen. So we had tea and cake, bought tea to take away from the vast assortment. (Love the Redcurrant Green Tea) and bought items on display.A truly unique and pleasant experience.

Unaware what to expect I took my dad for his birthday afternoon tea. Hearing amazing reviews from 5 friends, I decided to go.this place is amazing! I never realised it was so quirky and delicate inside! A selection of fantastic yet unique eats to accompany the 65 teas was perfect- we ordered the green tea brioche and the Dundee cake. Both were delish and accompanied out pear and caramel tea and souchong (can't remember the name!) tea wonderfully. All around you are vintage pieces of clothing or ornaments or tea sets. The two waiters are really gentle and friendly and I will be back soon! With 4 small tables I advise to book! A complete wee gem amongst the other cafes in Edinburgh. Totally unique concept. Love it

This little place was recommended to us by the woman who we were staying with in Edinburgh. It's a bit out of the way (although that's probably b/c we were at the opposite end of town), but totally worth a visit. There was only one person working while we were there, so the service was a tad slow, but everything was SO delicious. The variety of teas was fantastic, and the spreads, the cakes, tarts - everything was amazing.

As this a place I frequently visit for tea I will get the negatives out of the way first: there is no toilet (which is a negative once you see the size of teapots you get!). It is also quite small so be prepared to book ahead to absolutely avoid disappointment. That said we have also visited ad hoc and been seated. The tea range is impressive - dozens of teas on offer - and served in huge measures. Alongside those are cakes, made by the proprietor, ranging from fruit tarts to cream teas, to the amazing green tea savarins which I highly recommend. Your surroundings are cosy and bedecked with antiques (the other half of the name pun) so be prepared to browse - and for other browsers. The service is unparalleled, as you'd expect from a small shop but it really is faultless.During most of the year it is only open Friday-Sunday, otherwise we would visit more - for tea it is without a doubt one of the best locations in Edinburgh so would commend it to you very highly.

What a great place! This is a mix of a vintage tea house and antiques store in Edinburgh and is just a lovely place to drink your tea and feel like a character of an old vintage movie. The have a variety of teas,or better, every flavor you could possibly imagine, and is really hard to choose just one- I really like the 'cherry and chocolate' flavor, and I teamed it with a tasty truffle. The tea room inside is charming, with antiques around, and the staff was just amazing. He was really kind and well dressed, with soft voice and really helpful, so in the mood of this place :)I also love how this place is hidden, and difficult to recognize it just from the outside-which make it even more charming as place. We spent a couple of hours there, talking and relaxing and staff was completely fine about this. Many people would just walk past Anteaques, but implore you not too because its far too great.note : There are no toilets!

My boyfriend and I happened upon this place when we recently went to the Fringe Festival is Edinburgh and I was not disappointed. They have a wonderful selection of unique teas in addition to some food (scones, chocolates, fruit cake) which were also delicious. I had a scone with violet jelly, chocolate truffle and a pot of gardenia oolong tea. The pot of tea was huge and it was very reasonable. They are open until 7pm which is great because of lot of these types of tea rooms close early. They had an array of things for sale from their tea and chocolates to crystal glasses and furniture at very reasonable prices.

Super little cafe, welcoming and well run. Dog friendly. Menu is limited however, if they're not too busy, other options are available on request such as full English breakfast. No obvious vegan options, other than toast. Oat milk available and gluten free bread. Freshly cooked food and really nice coffee. Full of locals, which is always a good sign!

Last year, mum and I found Max Bakes. Mum had haggis and black pudding and I had feta and spinach. I had never had haggis or black pudding (always put off by the ingredients 🤦‍♀️) I tried mums and vice versa...both were delicious! This year we planned to hunt Max Bakes down, worrying he may not be here this year, and much to our delight we found him in the exact same spot! (later we found out he is a permanent fixture not just for The Fringe) We order two haggis and black pudding rolls and they were as good as we remembered! Two very happy travellers 😁
