15C A.D. in Mendip

In 2022 this was a quiet hotel restaurant with a small menu of fresh produce, and we had a really nice meal there. Returning to Wells, we booked again and found that it had changed. The menus are along the lines of bar food (with a "grazing" section). On a Tuesday evening, it was very busy with a couple of large groups, and we were warned that there might be a delay in service. The service was fine, food was basic pub fare, the best bit was the surprise of finding Esporão Monte Velho branco on the wine list. £100 including gratuity.

It is not obvious that this is the restaurant of the Swan Hotel, it is excellent. Relaxed comfortable dining, a small menu that does not change frequently is a reliable indicator of quality and value. We both had goats cheese salads followed by sea bass. The fish was perfectly cooked, accompanied by fresh asparagus, crushed potatoes and parmesan crisps, it doesn’t sound much but everything was really delicious. With desserts and a bottle of wine - less than £100, which in Wells is a bit of a bargain.

Our starters were ok and dessert (treacle tart) quite good, but main courses were disappointing - limited meat on the pork belly and a rather mediocre cottage pie. Both lacked flavour and interest.

Meal was of very good quality and we had such friendly & professional service. The kitchen was very helpful with our dietary requirements and we were impressed by the stylish atmosphere. Good value on top of all this.

My friends and I booked a table for a christmas dinner dance this year as a treat. We paid £35 for a very basic meal and a shocking DJ. My prawn starter was a plate of limp lettuce with a few scrawny frozen prawns in a thin, flavourless pink sauce. Main course - salmon was adequately cooked, again with a small amount of non descript yellow sauce, nothing special. The table was presented with two bowls of veg, that looked like they has come out of the freezer. Tateless, bland, bland, bland. Gordon Ramsy would have had a field day. Chocolate brownie was tasty but served with a comical squirt of cream, Like, really laughable here. Shame, as this ruined this tastiest course. The music was dreadful, only one or two songs from the last decade. The DJ didnt bother to read the crowd to cater for the mix of ages present. I would say this was lazy. It went perfectly with the meal. I am not a fusspot, in fact I am usually easy to please. I have never written a review before but would like to warn people not to bother.

While being a bit on the small side, the staff was friendly and the food was outstanding! If you like Italian food, this is your place in Somerset.

We are staying in the hotel and decided to give the restaurant a go. The food was great and the service was good apart from the Manager. He was brash, rushed around not taking any care, berated a young waiter on the floor (young lad was doing an ace job!) And queried us multiple times on payment methods which was very odd. Great restaurant but needs a new manager

Stayed in the hotel where this is part of it. Had some hesitation about trying it, as had a bad experience in the past elsewhere where we did the same thing, but that restaurant was disappointing and ruined our anniversary. However, this time at this place, the service was good, food was great. Really enjoyed our anniversary celebration before we returned to our bedroom with a 4-poster bed and enjoyed a great evening at this hotel.

Although listed separately this is part of the BW Swan Hotel. Hotel deserves the BW+ rating but restaurant does not. We were on inclusive deal or would have eaten in the more modern 'Ensemble' opposite where my wife had a very satisfying light lunch.

Annually this has become our popular venue for our May Fair Civic Buffet Lunch, adding some colour with the Town Crier as the Master of Ceremonies.

I have already reviewed this restaurant in my review of the Best Western Swan Hotel, where this restaurant is located. I won't repeat it all again here but we had a most excellent experience. 3 courses are £27 which is very reasonable for a 2 AA rosette eatery.Service was impeccable. I have added an extra photo here of the excellent dessert of boiled orange sponge with mascarpone, the flavour was exceptional.Lovely contemporary decor in this 15th century hotel. Recommended for fine dining at affordable prices in Wells.

A smallish restaurant with good food and good service. Families are comfortable eating here as are solo diners. A varied menu. I enjoyed the goat cheese and beet salad followed by the Plaice. My glass of Pinot Grigio was mellow and delicious.

Esta es una pequeña joya. Usted puede tener una bebida antes de la comida en la comodidad del salón del hotel antes de entrar en el muy bien decorado y acogedor restaurante. El camarero que nos servía era amable y servicial y muy atento. La comida era muy deliciosa y bien presentada. También ofrece una buena relación calidad-precio, como lo hicieron dos campos por un precio fijo si querías. Sin duda recomendaría este.

Nos hemos alojado en el Swan antes, pero ha sido un poco decepcionados con la cena. En esta ocasión la comida era excepcional tanto para la cena y desayuno y había una gran celebración en otra parte del hotel y una gran fiesta en el restaurante, la comida y el servicio son para felicitarla. No habría sabido cómo muchos estaban siendo atendidos. Había una buena variedad de comida excelente presentación y sirve como te gustaría.

Visitar Wells, uma cidade verdadeiramente única. vale sempre muito... Às muitas "estrelas", que a cidade me merece, juntou-se mais uma: o restaurante 15c A.D.

Good food and a nice selection of wines, try the arrancini (this may be a misspelling? lovely with caramelized walnuts, poached pear and spinach.

Tenía una cena muy buena aquí la noche pasada. Comencé con cerdo asado y luego mejilla tenía una muy buena cadera de cordero, mi esposa tenía una solla muy bueno.

Desayunamos y cenamos aquí y quedamos muy satisfechos con el servicio y la calidad de la comida. Muy buen buffet de desayuno caliente y selección. La noche fue excelente comida de calidad. La única crítica posible era la variedad vegetariana de plato principal,. El risotto de hongos tarta de remolacha y opciones eran tanto en el lado pesado, mientras que una opción de ensalada hubiera sido preferible. La sopa de tomate y queso coliflor cangrejo eran excelentes, así como la solla en salsa de camarones. El elderflower sorbete y arroz de coco eran excelentes.

Meat melting off the bone; delicious jus; perfect veg; proactive offering of gluten-free options truly welcomed. Great professional service. Try the Taunton toast for breakfast.

We had such a delicious lunch here for Fathers day.Adam the head chef is one of if not the best chef in the area and the food is always of the highest quality.If you are in Wells this is a must!!

A very busy restaurant even in mid week, but attentive staff and exceptionally good service in my opinion. A limited menu with approximately 4 choices for each course. I found the food was exceptionally rich, although well presented. If you enjoy rich, well seasoned food then I would recommend.

Met a friend here for lunch. Opted for a chicken dish; generous piece of roast chicken on a bed of well seasoned spinach, accompanied by plenty of potatoes.Service was excellent. The restaurant certainly isn't 'stuffy' and I would recommend it. (If you don't fancy eating in the restaurant then the hotel has a separate bar and lounge. During the summer you can eat on the terrace at the front - facing Wells Cathedral and there is also a peaceful cafe area at the rear.)When I ate here (in February) the lunchtime menu was changing daily.

Not worth the money. No one asked us if we wanted to eat dinner, no one told us we needed to book. Reception need some more training.

Ate here on the first night of our stay at the hotel. They offer a seasonal menu at set prices for 2 or 3 courses, which given the ingredients is exceptional value. The drinks are reasonably priced too.

Very nice food with pleasant service. Reasonable value vis price. Residents but still a busy place probably need to book.
