Ngon Ngon

Holborn and Covent Garden, Camden
26/08/2020: We have been to Vietnam and looked forward to tasting the food again, we were not disappointed. Luckily for us it was near our hotel but if you are catching the tube Farringdon underground is 5 minutes walk away. Food was tasty and just the right level of spice. Our starter of squid was cooked to perfection We had a nice bottle of red wine at £18. The wife said her Pho Bo was just like what we had in Vietnam. Portions were on the large side. The bill was a very reasonable £57.
20/08/2020: I visited the restaurant yesterday evening. I tried their prawns which was yummy.I sampled their chicken and beef pho that tasted delicious.Their jasmin-tea was perfect and their matcha-ice-cream was fabulous. The customer service was good - though perhaps needs to be a little less formal and more relaxed instead.I shall be back soon. Thank you to the team and chefs!

05/09/2020: Good selection of food. We ordered pho as it was the recommended dishes. The pho was great, not too bland and authentic. The portion is huge!! See the picture for yourself :)

Viet Baguette Ltd

Woolwich Common, Greenwich
12/08/2020: Visited for a takeout and the food was initially lovely...Until I discovered that this restaurant doesn’t seem to wash any of the salad leaf wrappings which accompany some menu items. I found insect eggs all over the lettuce. Which was horrifying, as I had already eaten a couple of leaves. This is major hygiene risk and needs remedying.
09/08/2020: Great food at very reasonable prices; Pho and Spring Rolls are particular favourites. Lovely staff and a decent outside area round the back. Definitely a top recommend for the area.

Mama Pho

Evelyn, Lewisham
06/09/2020: Personnel agréable, prix corrects, bons plats, joli déco, les produits utilisés semblent frais. Je recommande et je reviendrai !
30/08/2020: Amazing selection and choice of dishes, the large soup is very very large and the chicken was tender. Will definitely be back. Covid compliant with shields in between tables and hand sanitizer at the door and throughout the restaurant. Small restaurant in size but definitely worth a visit.

Little Vietnam

Abbey, Merton, <20£
01/07/2020: The restaurant was a bit tricky to find but it was definitely worth the effort! We ordered a few different dishes for a try and they were all great! The place was really quiet (we were the only customers for most time) so the staff really attended to us properly and we felt welcomed and cared for. The food tasted authentic and fresh - and the interior decorations were so cool! Would definitely go again!

The Little Viet Kitchen

Barnsbury, Islington
09/09/2020: First the positives: - Nice, petite non-commercial restaurant- Attentive service (caveat below) What wasn’t great:- The food menu that is online isn’t the menu you get at the restaurant. The starter dumplings were overcooked and appeared to be out of a frozen packet not homemade. The gorgeous fresh prawns that you see on IG are not those in the restaurant. Instead you get very expensive Iceland type breaded prawns. I appreciate that the menu has changed due to covid, but then don’t post photos of food that you’re not serving on IG and update your online menu.- The crab and papaya salad was expensive with very little sight of crab. - The salmon main was dull. Nothing overly exciting about it.- The aubergine main was undercooked - we did say this to the waiter and he replied that is how the Vietnamese cook aubergine. I really don’t think so! Most of the dish was inedible. - Very dark lighting - you can’t see what you’re eating. - Service was fast. Not the relaxed leisurely meal we hoped for. Sadly, this was an overpriced meal at £85 including 3 drinks (food totalling £60). You can get much better elsewhere. I really wanted to support this restaurant with it being independent. I had high hopes, but it didn’t deliver.

Au Lac - Highbury

Highbury East, Islington, >100£
28/03/2020: Came in with a few friends in early February for an impromptu dinner. A charmingly decorated restaurant with comfortable seating and a hospitable reception was already a sign that we had found a veritable treat. The menu is simple, and tight - with popular Vietnamese dishes taking centre stage alongside some family recipes that were utterly divine. The owner was in the dining room, taking orders and making everyone feel welcome. A true family-run experience. In the end our group paid a very reasonable amount of generous portions, good atmosphere and friendly staff. If you're curious about Vietnamese food and want the real McCoy, this is your best bet. Brilliant.
