The Glencairn Lounge

Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, <20£
18/04/2019: My wife was local to this area until we married, so while out visiting relatives we decided to pop in to The Glencairn Lounge this is the first time i has went back in around 7 years and was really suprised at some of the subtle changes made its has all the usual pub grub on offer we decided to go for a Steak Pie and Mash and a Gleeny Burger from a specials menu
06/04/2019: Having decided to treat my wife and sons to Lunch, we decided to visit the Glencairn Lounge as it had been recommended to us by a member of our family & we were definently not disappointed.

The Stables Restaurant

Lomond, West Dunbartonshire
17/04/2019: My son and I had dinner here on a Tuesday evening. Restaurant was quiet. Son had fish and chips. He ate every bite. I had the chicken and leek pie. Very tasty. We had ice water to drink. Parking lot with easy parking. Prices were reasonable for the quality and serving sizes
13/04/2019: Family gathering, was okay but just okay. Everyone enjoyed their food but wasnt amazing which now a days when you get out for special meal kind of expect something more than basic.

Glen Lusset

Clydebank Waterfront, West Dunbartonshire
14/04/2019: The food was excellent all 4 of us enjoyed every last bit. So much so I took friend and her boy the very next week.
09/04/2019: Walked out after sitting in the conservatory for over 30 minutes without so much as smile from any waitress. No one spoke to us, asked us for a drink order or even gave us a menu. Working in the industry myself customer service is key and when you are busy you at least explain to your table and let them know you know they haven’t been served. Real shame as food has always been great.

Cucina

Lomond, West Dunbartonshire, >100£
15/04/2019: We had a delightful last minute dinner here. The hosts were very accommodating and the soup of the day was delicious. I’d come here again for sure. Lovely menu, lots to try.
12/04/2019: Balloch has been a reliable stopping point on my family's annual trips to Scotland, and Cucina was always the best spot to grab dinner in the town. However, on our most recent visit the pizzas were just awful. The sauce was way too sweet and the dough was indescribably under-baked. Service and ambiance were fine, but not enough to make up for the poor food.

02/04/2019: We called in a couple of weeks ago for a quick early evening drink and were enjoying ourselves so much that we decided to stay for dinner. The food was amazing and great value and out waitress was lovely - wanted to return the next night but it was fully booked! Will certainly go back on our next visit to Balloch!

The Kilted Skirlie

Lomond, West Dunbartonshire, <20£
25/07/2018: We were looking for a place to eat within the Loch Lomond Shores shopping center and went in because we liked the ambiance inside. Great decision as the staff was friendly and helpful and we sure needed help to choose the Scottish dishes on the menu. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. We picked all the Scottish specialties and enjoyed them - Haggis, Black Pudding with whiskey and black pepper mayonnaise (fascinating combo), smoked salmon, steak pie in red wine – suffice to say, eating here was an adventure.
10/07/2018: We had lunch on the terrace, in front of the loch under a glorious sun. Moreover, not content with serving delicious salads and burgers, the staff, and especially Hannah who was looking after us, was amicable and efficient throughout. Highly recommended.

Deli Darbar

Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire
30/10/2018: Inside the restaurant is cozy and well decorated. Complimentary poppadoms and spices onions to start. The meal was delicious and the service welcoming. Reasonably priced. A highly recommended restaurant
20/08/2018: My whole family have always ordered take away from here, but my mum and I decided to sit in one evening and we were both very impressed. The host was very welcoming and such a pleasure to chat with, the service was over and above our expectations. The decor was charming and relaxed, you could easily forget you were in the Shire. As always the dishes were full of flavour, a well established curry house which will continue to be our first choice.

The Tullie Inn

Lomond, West Dunbartonshire, >100£
17/04/2019: We had dinner here on a Wednesday evening. Our waitress Lauren was very kind. She took time to chat with me and my son. She also provided excellent service and gave us advice on local fare to try as we travel through Scotland. We took extra time at the table as my son wanted to watch the Manchester city match and she did not make us feel rushed at all.
12/04/2019: We had a lovely family room with a double for the parents and two twins for the children. Fantastic bathroom; However, the room smelt faintly of vomit for the entirety of our stay. The cooked breakfast had a wide variety of veggie options, which is always nice, but unfortunately practically every item in the cooked breakfast was wrong in one way or another. Mushrooms too rubbery, veggie sausages undercooked, etc. Overall not bad, had to give it a 3 because of the smell but without that it is easily a 4.

The Abbotsford Hotel

Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire
14/04/2019: We were staying in Dumbarton for a few days to attend a wedding, and didn't know where to go to eat so picked this as it was nearby and the reviews looked good. The look of the building outside is not very inviting but the welcome in the restaurant was! We sat in the bar part, in a booth, and got very good friendly service from the start even though we had not booked. Lovely food, I had haggis and partner had venison. Good value.
13/04/2019: very pleasant staff, accommodated us at short notice on mothers day. well price and good quality food

20/12/2018: I was visiting with my friends on a Friday afternoon for an early dinner. Service was good even though it was very busy.

Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond

Leven, West Dunbartonshire, 45-60£
23/02/2019: Visited Boathouse for first time, will probably be the last. My husband and I ordered two club sandwiches which cost £11.50 each!! I asked for bread to be toasted which seemed to be an issue and when we asked for brown bread, we were told they only had white and when it came it was very poor quality white bread which had been wafted past a chargrill and was very flat and chewy. The chicken had been cut far too thick and salad included consisted of tiny bits of tomatoes and small amount of lettuce: not a great lunch and probably won’t venture back any time soon. I have had a much nicer club sandwich at nearly half the price. Sorry boathouse but not impressed.
11/02/2019: Visited Cameron House with friends as a pre-wedding get together and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Great food, we had the 3 course lunch which was superb. All ingredients were fresh and presentation was perfect. Would definitely recommend to others.

Queen of the Loch

Lomond, West Dunbartonshire, <20£
15/04/2019: Visited on a few occasions, mainly with kids, as the atmosphere and facilities are very child friendly. Staff are generally helpful and accommodating though it can take a frustratingly long time just to place your order due to a poorly managed queuing service. Once the food is ordered, depending on the time of day, you can also wait quite a while for it to arrive as we found during our recent visit. My main gripe with this place however is the varying quality of food particularly for vegetarians. The food can range from passable but tasteless to downright inedible. I made the mistake of ordering the Yorkie Wrap this time. What arrived was a huge greasy roll, both unpleasant to the eye and the nose. Once I'd unwrapped it from the dripping greaseproof paper, and opened it up, it appeared to contain a mixture of over boiled potates, sweetcorn and peas, all unseasoned and all dripping in grease. It was completely inedible. I can imagine on paper, this sounded like an interesting vegetarian option but I wonder how it ever passed a taste test! Fortunately I got my money back but it left a nasty taste and smell at the table. The rest of the food we ordered was ok, but lacking in any flavour. All in all, a disappointing lunch experience. The cakes at the display area looked delicious but we opted to have dessert elsewhere so can't comment on whether they were as tasteless as the rest of the food. Great location but food quality definitely needs to be improved.
13/04/2019: We have been to The Queen of the Lich pub/restaurant before and really enjoyed the carvery meal we had on that occasion. Visiting nearby Alexandria for personal reasons we thought we would eat there again...

The Princess Rose

Lomond, West Dunbartonshire, 20-30£
16/04/2019: Have a timeshare in Cameron House and always pay a visit to the Princess. Been going here for 30 years and still the same owner/family (they opened for business three months before our first visit to Balloch). The service is outstanding. So attentive and chatty. The food was as usual well presented and cooked. Absolutely no faults and will visit again during our July stay.
14/04/2019: We went here on the friday for some food as my partner loves chinese food. They had gotten my starter wrong, the waiter wasnt happy when i said to him. The chicken curry looked bad, 5 bits of chicken witch was really rubbery ..after givingn the food a good i just didnt feel right after a few hours. Was really dear aswell 2 small starts and 2 main meals and 2 drinks was £62.50.. and it wasnt even worth it. Curry was soo thick and tasteless had hard peas in the curry aswell. The chips was okay and rice was fine. Think next time i visit balloch i wont be back. Am not a person to fuss about food or say anything untill it needs to get said! Was really bad.

The Claret Jug

Leven, West Dunbartonshire
28/03/2019: Came here as a group of 12 for dinner, took a while to get drinks ordered and when they arrived the first few were wrong, eventually got to order food and after 10 minutes were told 6 of the starters weren’t available so the whole first half experience was pretty rubbish. At this point the manageress took over our table and suggested some alternatives and sorted out the drinks mix ups, the rest of the meal went brilliant. Food was good, service was very good and the evening was completely salvaged by a smart thinking and fast acting manageress.
10/02/2019: My wife, daughter and I had been into the Carrick Spa for the morning and decided to have lunch at The Claret Jug before heading home. The service and level of attention shown us by Mark was absolutely superb. He was very polite and pleasant and could not do enough for us. He was superb. The food was delicious if a little pricey and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxing. Overall a lovely afternoon following a relaxing morning. A treat.
