The best restaurants serving Default food in Weardale County Durham North East

We got sandwiches from this shop today. The staff were absolutely wonderful and lovely. The sandwiches were absolutely fabulous. We also bought walnut cake hoping it would be as wonderful as the sandwiches. It was not. It was dry and seemed like 4 weeks old. We can recommend the sandwiches but we cannot recommend the cakes.

We’ve been here several times with the dog after our walk around Stanhope . The food is fine , the staff haven’t got any warmth or personality really . I can put up with that - the worst things are - 1 - there’s one toilet and you can hear what’s going on in there if you’re at a table nearby - which is obviously hideous ! 2 - there’s no music to create any sort of atmosphere or vibe , consequently , it’s like sitting in somebody’s wake ! Who runs this place ? You’ve got a captive audience and it’s like being in a factory canteen being served by uninterested Zombies . What a waste of an opportunity to creat a great vibrant eatery . PUT SOME MUSIC ON FOR GODS SAKE ! Create an atmosphere and drown out the sound of someone weeing or worse in the toilets !

Cannot fault them fish and chips are fab fish skin removed been few times now personally best in the town

We were in Stanhope and decided to pop in to Freddie's however before I placed my order I asked if they took cards, I was then totally shocked when this rather abrupt woman said if I must, then started ranting on about the bank charging her £1.20 for each transaction. If this is the case then I would suggest a notice on the window saying cash only or even a polite I would prefer cash but no problem if you only have a card response. I am very much in favour of supporting local businesses but this one does not deserve it with an attitude like that In the end we ordered 2x small fish and chips which were mediocre to average but obviously do not recommend this place and will not return.

We ordered from here on a Saturday night so it’s going to be busy but for it to take 3 hours is a joke and then when I ring up they told me it’s cos it’s been raining???
