Ordered our meal online and paid for delivery to be between six and seven pm,didn’t arrive,so rang eight times and emailed once all with no reply whatsoever,so ended up having to drive into town to the shop, went in and was met with hostility,no apology or reason given!said they would cook our meals then and refund us £2.50 delivery charge which we said was unacceptable,to cut a long story short staff and management very very unprofessional, told to get out the shop by one irate staff member, which goes to show you if you stick up for what’s right you become the villain, eventually got our money back and went elsewhere and will never go back there again,at the end of the day this is our opinion of our experience, hope yours is better.good luck

I love my Friday trips to Louth and there's so many places to eat and drink. I had been desperate to try this fish n chip shop as it is Award Winning. Oh my word I don't know how!!!! The fish n chips were mediocre (I won't say terrible). The tiny dish of gravy hardly covered a few chips. I had to ask for sauce, I was reluctantly given ONE measly sachet. I begged if I could have at least one more and was told it would be 35p a sachet. Now if I was getting them takeaway yes I'd expect to pay, but not sitting in. A lady came in asked if they did gluten free and was courtly told the frier wasn't on. The table was wobbly and so crammed in. Another customer who had eaten said "thank you" as she left.... No acknowledgement whatsoever. Oh well you live and learn I guess

We took a trip to buy fish and chips at Davenports whilst staying near Louth as we had read it had been voted one of the top fish and chip shops in the U.K. Unfortunately as soon as we stepped inside the door we saw a huge can of peanut (groundnut) oil on the counter for sale so I asked the counter assistant if they cooked in the oil. She said they did. I explained my daughter has a severe peanut allergy so we’d have to go elsewhere, to which she replied ‘we’ve had customers with nut allergies before but they’ve been fine. Why don’t you just try it?’ I was absolutely shocked that somebody would even suggest such a thing. Eating a single peanut is enough to kill my daughter. I’m amazed not only that the staff here are not properly informed but that the shop chooses to use such an oil to cook in, considering all the people who have nut allergies and therefore excluded from their shop. It’s bad enough that my daughter has a limited choice of takeaway food to eat as it is - Indian, Chinese etc all cook using nuts, but for fish and chips to also be taken off the menu is a kick in the teeth. We found another chip shop nearby that cooked using vegetable oil and we enjoyed the food very much. I am just really disappointed in Davenports.

Brilliant to find a fish & chip shop open on a Sunday. Sat in the restaurant which was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and polite. Had the haddock & chip special. Came with a drink, bread & butter, mushy peas & lovely tartare sauce. Excellent portion size. The batter was golden & light. The best fish & chips we have had in a long time! Great value too.

After having been closed for a couple of years the pub is now due to re-open on the 31st October 2024. Greene King are saying that the re-opened pub will revert to it's former name of 'The Sportsman's Arms' (in recent years it had been named 'The Belmont'). I've given a three star (average) review as I haven't a clue yet what the pub will be like - I just thought it might be useful to post that it is re-opening soon but I can't work out how to post without giving a rating. I'm hoping to return with a five-star review soon!!

The food was very nice with nice sized portions and appropriate pricing, however a pot of tea is £3.50 per person. When I asked for extra water, i was told a pot of extra water would be charged at an extra £1 which I felt was unreasonable given the very high cost of tea. I go to alot of cafe's and have never been charged for extra water.
