Very friendly and welcoming staff. As we took our dog, we sat in the room where guests are allowed with their dogs. It was very cosy and although separate from the main bar area we didn't feel forgotten. The food was tasty and could be described as a home cooked meal. Will go back to try their Sunday lunch which was recommended.

Turned up just after kitchen closed, fine, understood no food, the lady serving was bolshy and unfriendly. If the tide wasn't in we would of gone elsewhere. It's our 3rd attempt now, I don't think we shall do a 4th!

We went here for a catch up lunch with friends. I booked in advance and was told we could only stay until 14.30 due to there being a wedding taking place. I really appreciated this communication in advance as it allowed us to manage our visit so thank you Vicky. I thought the venue, food and atmosphere was first class and beat my expectation. I would especially like to mention Oscar and Iris for all of their help and kindness. For young members of staff they are both a credit to this establishment and made an already great visit even better. We live over 50 miles away from the Whalebone so it won’t be a regular visit for us, but I can assure you I will return when planning a visit. Well done all involved.

I live on the island and Mersea Barns has long been one of my places to have breakfast or lunch. The staff are friendly and the breakfasts have been consistently good. See you again soon.

My Wife had taken me for Sunday lunch as a birthday present, have been here before and always had very good food. My wife's lamb was excellent but my roast beef was on the tough side but it was edible, taste was good just had to work at it which is unusual for what is normally excellent food.

Poor selection. My dinner served on a plate with cracked glaze. Unexceptional food. Place has really gone downhill. Pie of the day: Mince! Not very enticing.
