Haven’t been in for a few years as we’d heard it had been taken over and standards had slipped, they certainly hadn’t slipped! It was a packed Thursday lunch, full of ladies due to attend a function however the friendly waitress found a table for us and our two dogs in the snug. I ordered fish cake starter with triple cooked chips as I didn’t want a main course and my husband ordered club sandwich and chips. There was way too much food and we could’ve happily shared the chips and still left some. You certainly don’t leave hungry. Only two negatives, I used to love the steak pudding but it’s no longer on the menu and secondly a hot fish cake on top of a piece of iceberg lettuce doesn’t work. There was no need for the lettuce as it was slimy due to the hot fish cake. The refurbishment is lovely without losing the character of the pub. We won’t leave it so long next time.

Simon is a great host. We visited his pub on Friday ready for tough mudder and went back yesterday for food and beers. The food was lovely and the portion sizes were bigger than expected. Simon made sure the child that was with us was looked after too. Thank you. It was a great experience.

Certainly won’t be going back. Ordered 2 coffees , a scone and a chocolate brownie. At the point of paying I was told there was no cream with the scone but a pot was clearly visible with the scone and jam. I asked if that would be an available and the young girl agreed it would , at which point a more mature lady came from the kitchen and said it was display only and that they didn’t have any. I suggested that it would be a good idea to remove the pot as it was misleading but the reply was that’s not your decision it’s mine and she replaced the pot on the display. There was then a search for some jam and I suggest someone sarcastically that this may also not be available. This brought about a response that my sarcasm was abusive behaviour and would not be tolerated and I did expect the arrogance of the staff member to lead to be being asked to leave ( I had paid at this time). That wasn’t the case and I was left waiting for our coffees. One coffee was placed on the tray and I awaited the 2nd one but it was clear the assistant wasn’t making a second one. One again the mature lady came out and told me I should sit down and the tray would be brought to our table but was clearly unaware one drink was missing. After much searching to find the original order it was confirmed another coffee would’ve made and the whole tray brought to our table. The lady who brought this was pleasant and a far cry from the mature lady who was clearly in charge. Maybe the mood I was now in has some bearing on my enjoyment of food that was delivered but all I can say is that it looked better than it tasted ( both the scone and the brownie were bland and the coffee barely warm). I have been a customer since the shop/cafe opened and at one point had a loyalty card. This experience and my overall view of the shop has changed and I see no reason to return as there are places offering better quality and value in the Skipton area.
