This was our first time here and I had a “cowshed” breakfast and my wife had a “calf” breakfast - the “cow shed” was a larger breakfast with 2 eggs, 2 bacon and a hash brown along with baked beans and vine tomatoes mushrooms and toast and butter The staff are friendly and helpful We will return

We have recently attended two Sunday carveries under the new management. Our first experience was the trial carvery day and the second was two weeks later. We enjoyed the first carvery (the meat and potatoes being particularly good), but some of the vegetables on that occasion weren't so good. However, our second carvery food experience was markedly better. The turkey, beef and gammon joints were all well-cooked, the meats were succulent and tender and the portions generous. On the second occasion, the vegetables were also well cooked and there was a good selection. The staff are friendly and pleasant, but the ‘front of house’ could be better organised, although to be fair one member of staff said that they were trying different “meet and greet” options on the day. Hopefully this will also improve as experience is gained. After seeing very mixed reviews since the pub changed hands earlier this year, it is great to see a good carvery returning to the village. Give it a try and help support your local pub. We will definitely be back.

Bad start when the member of staff greets you with a moan about how many bookings they have. That’s not my problem. Maybe try welcoming us with positivity and wishing my wife a happy Mother’s day instead. Our table seemed ok to start with, but before I had even warmed the seat up we were being asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We asked to be given a minute, but immediately afterwards a second member of staff asked if we were ready to order. The conveyer belt was truly in motion. Well the table was made worse when guests arrived on the adjacent table. It was clear there was insufficient room for comfort. Please stop the money-grabbing, cram them in like sardines approach and provide an enjoyable experience. We ordered our food, two roast beef and a child’s fish goujon and chips. I reckon 5 minutes passed and we were presented with our plates. The only nice part was the horseradish. My beef was tough, potatoes over done and lukewarm at best. The gravy was bland, not beef gravy and I wish I hadn’t added it to the dish. The lunch was rounded off with a bill that already had service charge applied in faded print that I didn’t see. We were a table of 3, why is service charge included as standard? I didn’t want to tip their poor service, bad setting and rubbish food. To top it all my wife had to ask for the Mother’s Day chocolate gift, another chance to say Happy Mother’s Day missed. Never going back!
