My husband and I popped in for a quick late lunch as The Craven NEVER disappoints and again today, it didn’t! The staff and the food are just so friendly and amazing food. We both fancied the steak and ale pie and the waitress was so sweet and said that there may be a little wait as the chef was just making some more pies but WOW, we didn’t actually have to wait too long and it was worth every minute! The quality of the pie, the huge chunky chips and the perfectly cooked veg was the icing on the cake, or the gravy on the steak!! Their prices are reasonable and so worth every bite and the whole experience. I have been to this pub since I was a little girl playing in the garden with my parents watching, we’ve taken our children to do the same and now enjoy it with them as grown up children. The current owners are so personal to us whenever we visit and we look forward to so many more visits, with a big gang or just the two of us! Well worth a visit, you will love it! Varied menu, friendly, cosy and something for everyone!

Lovely sunny garden with plenty of seating and shade. Excellent varied menu from which I chose the smoked salmon and then a ribeye steak. My partner had pigeon and then monk fish all of which arrived piping hot and was very tasty - we cleared our plates! Definitely would recommend this pub both for a drink and for food. The garden is lovely, they are dog friendly and the interior has had a stylish makeover which makes sitting inside a pleasure

We'd passed the Five Bells several times but never ventured in. Last night we decided to go for a meal and are so glad we did. It was by far the best meal we've had in a very long time (and we've eaten out a lot recently). The steak and ale suet pudding was delicious, the meat was tender and full of flavour, the pastry cooked to perfection. Cod can normally be a bit dull but it was brought to life by the veloute and the leeks were particularly good. The desserts didn't disappoint either, I'd always wanted to try Basque cheesecake and it was silky smooth and one of the nicest cheesecakes I've had. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it, especially sat next to the open fire. The food was delicious and just the right amount. The staff member who served us was friendly and we had a nice chat. If this place was on our doorstep we'd consider ourselves very lucky indeed!

The location for this venue is lovely and it is such a shame that it is spoilt by a restaurant which has the worst acoustics I have ever experienced! No matter where your table is the fact that it has a wooden floor, no curtains and a ceiling which reflects the noise from the other diners, it is impossible to escape the noise which makes it difficult to have a quiet relaxing lunch without having to talk at the top of your voice!

Stayed with friends for one night with dinner, bed and breakfast. Right from arrival Emma was so welcoming and accommodating! The rooms were clean, well appointed and comfortable. The food was delicious! The service was great! Situated right on the canal and by a train station this has great access for walking or trips further afield. Would come back. Great stuff!
