This quirky coffee shop, themed on Batman's adversary the Penguin, serves great coffee with friendly smile. The coffee is wonderfully rounded without being bitter. The usual range of milk substitutes are on offer if milk is not your thing. Socially distanced seating inside and out with a great menu if toasted sourdough offerings available. A high quality alternative to the restaurant offerings from the Premier Inn just across the road.

Table booked for Saturday 19th April. We found the service not very good at all. Nothing genuine about it whatsoever. Just felt like he wanted the table back and didn’t actually care about how we enjoyed the meal at all. Bill came and quickly added the service charge without hesitation. No interest in if we actually enjoyed the meal very robotic and no personality and care whatsoever.

I ordered the cheese and pickle sandwich. When the sandwhich arrived the bread was stale there was.no butter on it and very sparse filling. It was disgusting.And for this i paid nearly ten pounds .(£9.95) I.should have sent it back but because it was a friends birthday lunch I didn't want to spoil it for her by complaining I have been to the Shaftesbury quite a few times but won't be doing so again A

We were staying just outside of Caldwell village for a week's holiday and this super pub was just 5 minutes drive. We ended up eating there 4 nights as the food and service was so good. It has an extensive menu and the quality of all the dishes we had was excellent every time. The steak nights at £12 and the 2 course deal for £16 are exceptional value and the chips in particular deserve a special mention as they are delicious, nice and crispy but not over cooked and hard - just right! Thanks also to the friendly staff and customers for making us feel welcome.
