The best restaurants in Donard Down South Eastern NI

Situated on Central Promenade, Newcastle, Co.Down the covered outdoor seating gives a truly Mediterrean atmosphere as you admire the views of the harbour and Slieve Donard, the highest peak in Northern Ireland, as it sweeps down to the sea. Choose one of the fabulous Base Coffee drinks or select from the range of herbal teas. For morning snacks try the sausage rolls, croisants or scone with fresh jam. Then later in the day you must try the home baked apple pie of one of the delicious (but huge) tray bakes. Base Coffee is not just a coffee shop, it's a hub for many regulars and undoubtedly you will very quickly feel welcome.

The food was lovely here today .Dirty loaded fries were delicious. My son had the wings and he loved them. The man worked there even offered to bring it over to our car as it was raining heavily.

My goodness, this pizza is class. Hot honey pizza. Convenient car parking across the road. Good service, I really recommend here, best pizza in Newcastle, hands down.

The restaurant name is now PACHA. The staff are nice and friendly 5*, there is a single shared toilet which is clean though needs check from time to time as water pooling on the floor maybe from costumers drying hand 4*. The place is clean, nice view from window and close to Donard free carpark. I like the way you choose where you want to sit 5*. We dont wait too long for our food and all taste really good and steak cooked to doneness we ordered them. Chips and pepper sauce also taste good. 5*. Price of the food is not too expensive but not average either if you think of the taste, good service and and the location. We can recommend this and we will come back again.

Our family trip to Newcastle turned into complete disaster when we came home with food poisoning from this place. We had fish and clearly it wasn't cooked properly. Will not be back 🤢

Went in August and got the Caesar salad and was amazed by the large pieces of fresh chicken in it and the presentation. Went back for the first time yesterday and was very disappointed to receive greasy battered chicken pieces in my salad instead of fresh chicken. the reason I chose the salad was cause I wanted something lighter and it was the first time Ive ever had fried chicken in a salad. Wouldn't order it again.

Really friendly staff help guide us to our pizzas of choice. We struggled to finish the amazing pizzas. But look forward to finishing the left overs!

Friendly cafe near the harbour in Newcastle. Good menu and an extensive specials board. Lots of cakes and traybakes to choose from. Tea comes in a pot with a tea cosy.

Went for a meal on a friday for my birthday as recommended by my parents from previous visits, had been declared delicious food! I would tend to agree the food I ate was lovely and very substational portions, the fish sharing platter was lovely and gyozas and aranchini were a nice surprise for a local restaurant. The vegetarian option however could have been more flavoursome and appeared quite bland, could do with being elevated a bit to be a bit more enticing. However the length of time waiting between drinks, ordering, serving etc. was too long, the staff did there best to tend to everybodys needs but there was just not enough people on the floor to keep everybody happy. Would love to come back in the hope that they recognise their potential to be a thriving restaurant within the town and have a couple more staff on the books.

Stopped in on a cold, rainy day. Cozy atmosphere. Friendly & good service. Enjoyed a classic fish & chips. Would go back again if ever in the area!

Lovely gluten free cheese and ham toastie with a nice fresh salad and coleslaw. The lady who served me was very friendly and helpful.

It is always good to be greeted by name, especially at restauant that one has never visited before. We were spoilt by an exceptional meal. The menu is limited, which is a good thing. The drinks menu is more extensive but lacks a good selection for those who do not drink alcohol. Portavogie prawns were a revelation. Everyone went home satidifed )and full.)

I love this spot. Food always delicious. Staff always friendly and every experience is always positive. Only issue is sometimes that it's difficult to get seating because it's so busy. Credit were credit is due...definitely the best spot for brunch/lunch in Newcastle.

We were here for a beer. I hope it will be open soon. This bar had nice atmosphere, we enjoyed our visit here.

Delicious food, highly recommend the Scampi , My wife had the chicken stack which she enjoyed. Good portions well cooked . Service was excellent, friendly staff and great welcome.
