Eight of us had lunch here twice this week. We were so impressed by the charming, friendly staff (front counter and kitchen), the welcoming atmosphere the excellent beer and the lovely food. Most of all it was the people woking there, that brought us back 48 hours later. Nothing was too much trouble. When we presented our own GF bread for one of our party, they insisted, despite my protestations, on reducing the price of the sandwich ordered. We had a whip round for a tip at the end of lunch (the four couples had all paid separately) and when I put this on the counter and said thank you, the young lady came through to the room where we were putting on our coats looking bewildered and said 'but you've already paid?' I don't know if it's family run or not but whoever owns it should be immensely proud of their staff.

Stayed for two nights without booking first, we were made to feel very welcome and given the ground floor apartment which was really comfortable. The bar had a great atmosphere and food was excellent, a lovely small break, we will return for more.

Just thought I would take the opportunity and time to give credit where it’s due! I have read through some of the reviews from 2022 and can only imagine that there was a hang over from Covid , or there must have been different owners? I couldn’t praise this establishment highly enough. This is the only Pub in the small hamlet of Redmire , and the centre of the community. It was a wonderful mixture of friendly ambience with excellent traditional food. 3 of us visited in June , and after dining on the Monday, we ate there for the rest of the week, and never had anything other than a good meal, trying different dishes every night! We are returning again in August , and will probably dine again every evening during our vacation. This is a fantastic local pub serving quality traditional food made from locally sourced produce. If people are expecting Haute cuisine, then they need to manage their expectations, and probably dine elsewhere, leaving more capacity for the customers that appreciate it. As far as we are concerned…. Well done and keep up the good work! 👍👍👍

After walking round we found it was slim pickings for cafes in leyburn ( our first visit to area) really shocked to find none were dog friendly. But we sat outside with our coats on and hats . We ordered the hot beef sandwich which comes with chips and slaw . Wasn’t cheap so was expecting good things , I was however left disappointed. The beef was really fatty , was forever having to pull bits out of my mouth , so chewy ! And the home made chips were really hard . Really disappointed, at £12 a sandwich I felt robbed . Wouldn’t recommend nor would I return.
