Went for Sunday lunch with family. Booked in advance for midday, no mention on booking that they required the table back at 14.00. On arrival , I assume it was the licencee landlord kept making a point that they required the table back at 14.00, annoying to say the least. Food quality, I would describe as very average, akin to a school dinner. Thinly sliced pork reheating in gravy, veg, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding OK. Desert again average poor presentation. Best part of meal espresso. Would I return, NO. Very average experience.

Went for Sunday lunch, ended up all having the roast. The beef was overcooked but a good size portion, the rest of the roast was ok but the puddings were excellent! All the puddings were homemade, tasty and good size portions. The service was good and the staff were friendly. Beer was good as well.

Having visited The Ashcott Inn for food on previous occasions and had a very good experience, we booked a lunch to celebrate an 80th birthday. We told the birthday person how lovely it was at The Ashcott and recommended it as a place to celebrate. I was therefore a little shocked when we sat down (first sitting of the Sunday) to find a very grubby floor which definitely needed a vacuum, had this been the last sitting of the day I could understand, but surely you should clean each day. Who wants to sit down to lunch with a debris on the floor, I just hoped the birthday person hadn't noticed. We were told several of the meals on the menu weren't available as it was change over time for the menu but they did offer an alternative which to be fair was good. Some of our main meals were lovely, some were not so great, the fish on 2 of the dishes was quite cold, mine was not as cold but it was certainly not hot. There was little choice for the desserts, everyone seemed to want the Sticky Toffee Pudding but there wasn't any and again they did not have some of the ingredients and were substituted. When we mentioned the cold fish (unfortunately the birthday person did not say until it was too late to return it, as she did not want to make a fuss), but we did not receive much of an apology about the coldness of the food, just that they would pass it on to the chef. They knew it was a birthday celebration but we didn't get as much as a Happy Birthday. As we had previously highly recommended this place and the food, it was very disappointing that it hadn't lived up to previous visits, especially as it was a 'special age' birthday that turned out to be not very special at all. I did write to The Ashcott Inn to enquire as to what had happened on this occasion, especially with regard to the dirty floor but I did not receive a response.

We often head out into Somerset from our home in Axbridge, to visit Gardens open for charity, and try to find somewhere nice for lunch or beer in a pub garden, but, as Vegans and non drinking, often end up disappointed. We usually head for somewhere that sounds local and lovely but have to leave because the only Vegan choice on the menu isn't on on,or they don't have any of that fancy alcohol free nonsense. Thank heavens then for a genuine country pub, that still has that magical feel of still being a proper pub but serving lovely homestyle food. We felt very welcome and were amazed to see a menu with Vegan options given equal space on the menu, even on a Sunday! They have three main meals, a choice of three desserts on Sunday and Guinness and Becks blue zero on the bar. We had a Mediterranean veg tart, with roast potatoes, lots of lovely veg and gravy too! For Dessert we had warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream, just to make it a special occasion! The staff were wonderful, welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended, Vegan or not!
