Lunch with friends. A friendly village pub with really good food. Quite an adventurous menu for a community village pub, I thought. The sweet potato wrap was really well presented and tasty. A member of the group had the chicken salad which was full of delicious ingredients such as olives and sundried tomatoes. Definitely worth a visit and good to support this community-financed venture.

A friend and I visited for dinner and both had fish and chips. The food was hot and tasty, and service was quick and friendly - the staff were welcoming and chatty.

Very good dinner at Killingworth Castle. This was the first time eating from the a la carte menu after previously trying the Sunday lunch menu. It’s a really nice dining area at Killingworth. We were in ‘the Library’ in the middle of the restaraunt and it’s a nice space for dining. There’s good choices on the menu with the option for snacks to start if you don’t want a bigger starter. The terrine with the bread was very good and not too dense as terrines can sometimes be. The duck and the monkfish were both excellent with decent portion sizes - just one extra side shared between two. For dessert it was the chocolate delice and a blackcurrant soufflé. The soufflé was genuinely fantastic and not too sharp with a beautiful ginger-stem ice-cream on the side. Killingworth Castle is a very good restaurant. Is it aiming towards Michelin star level? It has the feel of somewhere that has that ambition. Needs further refinement and maybe a more adventurous menu. It’s fairly decently priced, with three courses each and a couple of drinks coming out at approx £170. Definitely recommend a visit.

We called on spec, just passing by around noon. The restaurant area was almost empty apart from one lone diner and a table with what seemed to be two staff members chatting earnestly. After ignoring me for some minutes, one arose and asked if I wanted anything - yes, lunch for two (if it wasn't too much trouble) The other suited specimen arose and passed me by without a word. Being charitable, he could have been a contractor. Nevertheless this produced an immediate helpful waiter, with menus. After this shaky start, two excellent lunches were served in a short time. When we left, the bar area was now well patronized. I'd imagine these folks cater primarily for local business people and wedding parties. Certainly recommended, always assuming you can get served in the first place.
