A superb proper pub with real beer kept in tip top condition and offering an excellent selection of fine wines. It's not a foodie pub but the snacks are fine and on occasions lovely food is available from visiting chefs serving from outside. Ignore the rather rude reviews about the landlord, he is the most delightful, welcoming and charming man .

We had booked the table for a group of 8 friends after a previous successful visit. On arrival, we were guided to a different area, having specifically requested the table we had previously occupied. Unfortunately, the table we were given was in an area occupied by a few families with very noisy children. After speaking to the manager, he moved us to the table we had originally requested. We were really happy and had a fantastic afternoon, the food was delicious and the staff very attentive.

A surprise lunch arranged for my birthday weekend with my bf and a mate. First visit to this place. Table booked for 2pm. Turned up promptly and shown to our table. However an unusually lengthy delay before our drinks order was taken. Then a further pause before our food order was taken. Bloody Mary prawn salad was very tasty and the crispy spicy seaweed was a revelation. What then followed was a significant wait. It got to 80 mins since we’d arrived and we’d succeeded only in a couple of rounds of drinks and a starter. Whereas a large party celebrating a birthday who’d come in after us had received their roast dinners and several plates of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. I ended up having a word. Presumably the man in charge, flat cap South African, came over to point out our main course had been scheduled for 28 minutes and was 2 tickets away. He said he’d asked the kitchen to speed ours up. A further 10-15 minutes and our mains arrived. The sirloin slices were warm rather than hot but everything else was nice. But at this point we could have eaten a bin liner. The additional Yorkshire pudding we asked for was greasy underneath. The originals with the meal were not, and they were lovely. The additional toasted potatoes were nuclear but welcome. So overall the food was tasty, beef could have been hotter. The waitress was lovely and friendly. Didn’t partake of desserts. The restaurant wanted to remove the service charge but we wanted that left on and given the recent change in rules regarding service charge felt the staff should be rewarded but the establishment itself should foot the discounted amount not the staff.

We come here a few times as not too far away. Lovely old pub, pub feel. Lovely food and very reasonable prices on both food and drink. Staff are always lovely. Dog friendly. They went above and beyond today and have my daughter a lovely dessert with Happy Birthday written on and sang to her. Meant a lot. It’s the small touches that make a place good. Highly recommend.
