Full makes to Diane & the team, front and back of house for our lunch today! I’m dairy & egg intolerant so eating out even in 2024 can be tricky to say the least. My hubby mistakenly ordered me the wrong dish from the menu, but Diane without any hesitation corrected this in record time superbly, super impressed with the chefs for being so understanding & there is even vegan mayo (no egg!) hurrah 😀 Lovely atmosphere, great staff & good food, you must eat here !

Well, where should I begin? Upon arriving at the car park, I was greeted with stunning views, which made a great first impression. However, upon entering the hotel, I noticed that the restaurant was extremely busy, and it appeared that there were limited staff members available. Our initial interaction with the staff was not particularly welcoming, as we were told to wait outside for 20 minutes before being checked in due to the high volume of guests. Personally, I believe that this is not an ideal way to greet guests upon their arrival at a hotel. Despite waiting patiently for the specified time, unfortunately, no one came to assist us. As a result, I waited an additional 15 minutes at the reception before finally being able to check in. After a lengthy wait of 35 minutes for the check-in process, we were shown to our room. It appeared that the room was in urgent need of renovation and investment. The decor was extremely outdated and basic. One point to note is that the main road nearby, which seems to be mistaken for a racetrack by many drivers, experiences constant traffic even in the early hours of the morning. The noise level is comparable to sleeping next to a racetrack or a motorway. Evening meal. We had a reservation for a table at 6 pm, but the staff informed us that 7:30 pm would be more suitable for them. We understood that they might have had a lot of reservations for the evening. However, when we went downstairs at 6 pm, the restaurant was empty, and it remained so even at 7 pm. For breakfast, the options are limited to English breakfast, vegetarian options, or cereals. Similarly, the hot drink choices are limited to tea or coffee. The quality of the breakfast was satisfactory, but it could be improved. Additionally, there was only one staff member handling all aspects of the breakfast service, including taking orders, cooking, working the bar, bringing out food, and managing the reception for booking out. While this individual did an admirable job, it is evident that they require assistance, as the workload is excessive for a single person, let alone two. Conclusion. If you are seeking a one-night stay at a basic accommodation, the Millstone Inn may suffice. However, I must admit that it is a marginal choice, and I would not recommend an extended stay. The hotel rooms are in urgent need of not only a thorough deep cleaning but also significant investment to bring them up to an acceptable standard. While the staff is friendly and hardworking, they would benefit from additional training to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness, especially during periods of staffing shortages. Regrettably, I cannot recommend the Millstone Inn for future stays. Despite its charming location, the overall condition of the hotel requires significant improvement.
