After finishing our walk earlier than expected we hunted round for somewhere that could take ten of us. A quick call confirmed they could push some tables together. Food was very good, service friendly and nothing not to like. It's a few miles outside Hathersage which gives it more of a country inn vibe than a town centre pub. Would go back.

Called in by chance for lunch on our way home. We have 2 dogs and they were welcomed in the bar area where meals are taken. A lovely log fire was also burning. We were lucky that only a few tables were taken so no trouble finding seating in a quiet area. There is an extensive menu from Al La Carte, to pub classics, salads and hot and cold sandwiches. We chose the homemade pie of the day which was steak and ale served with mash potatoes, vegetables and gravy. This was delicious. Unfortunately no room to sample the lovely deserts but looked very nice when seeing them served to other guests. What we did notice was how clean the carpet and furnishings were especially when dogs and walkers are regular visitors. This reflects the fact that some muddy boots were left in the entrance hall and facilities available to clean dog paws. A nice touch and thoughtful customers to ensure a clean environment.

Full makes to Diane & the team, front and back of house for our lunch today! I’m dairy & egg intolerant so eating out even in 2024 can be tricky to say the least. My hubby mistakenly ordered me the wrong dish from the menu, but Diane without any hesitation corrected this in record time superbly, super impressed with the chefs for being so understanding & there is even vegan mayo (no egg!) hurrah 😀 Lovely atmosphere, great staff & good food, you must eat here !

Disappointed. Had lunch today and it was mediocre to say the least. Ordered plaice from the lunch menu, it arrived breadcrumbed and deep fried. Fondant potato, which I had to ask for, wasn’t cooked through and the whole dish had very little flavour. My partner had fish pie which had a runny white sauce at the bottom. I had to go to the bar to order the food and again to get my bill. Service was lacking. There are better places to eat in Hathersage which give better value for money.

We wanted to try out somewhere for dinner as we hadn’t been to this area much. There was a lot of choice on the different menus, and we certainly enjoyed the pie, and burger we chose. There was a lovely range of desserts too. The bar had good choice, and hot drinks too.

We booked a table for 7pm, and when we arrived the restaurant wasn't busy. We ended up waiting over an hour and a half for our food- the three 'pub classics' we ordered were good but the vegetarian thali was comparable to a ready meal curry. We wouldn't have minded the wait had the staff been genuine in their apology, but we only received a begrudging muttered apology from an unsmiling waitress. Fortunately we didn't wait as long for dessert, and these at least were very nice. We felt the menu was probably more extensive than the restaurant could properly handle- a la carte, pub classics and pizza/pasta seems too much.

A group of us went for dinner last weekend and everything was spectacular. Everyone commented on how delicious their meals were, great ales and lagers on tap. The place was busy; full of life and everyone seemed to be having the same experience as us. Nestled away in the peaks this is a destination within itself and it all made sense as to why the place was so vibrant and popular. As far as prices in the peaks go I found everything to be priced well. All the places we’ve been previous to here in the peaks seem to be very much the same price. Will definitely be returning soon as this is a new spot great for meeting friends somewhat between Manchester and Sheffield. Thankyou for a great experience

The barman was amazing giving drink recommendations, I had an espresso martini and some white wine. The cocktail was fab, wish I could have taken one for the road (don’t worry I wasn’t driving lol!). For main meal I got the starter mackerel that came with potato salad, poached egg and some salad with a portion of fries. Again, amazing fish and the potato salad was amazing! To say that it was a starter size (£9) it was great quality and price. My parter had the pollo E panna casarecce (pasta meal) and he enjoyed his meal too. I love coming to this pub, can’t wait for the summer menu and drinks outside with the horsebox. Great staff as always.

We wanted somewhere where our large part of 9 could eat after a walk in the peaks. This was a new pub for us but we were welcomed with good service and a menu with choices for all. Great fresh home cooked food that was hit and tasty. I had the daily burger which was one of the best I have ever had. Others had roast in a nap which had incredible beef, with roast potatoes and gravy on the side. Good quality and generous portions , and definitely merits a repeat visit. It also has accommodation and would be a great base for a weekend.

. . . and then he told me how much, after we had left. We had the Plough Inn Burger £16.95, Club Sandwich £13.95 and the total of our bill was £45.60 . . . meaning our drinks, 1 x pint of orange juice and soda, 1 x large Chardonnay was £14.70! We didn't want a large meal as midday, and we said that the meals were fine when asked, but I had given half my Club Sandwich and fries to my husband as his burger was very small. We have passed this pub many times over the years and decided to give it a try . . . when initially pleased we will now not return.

The Sunday dinner was lovely and the staff and service was great, however, £13.50 for a large glass of red that was ordered at the table without a drinks menu was ridiculous. 2 glasses of wine costing more than an already overpriced Roast will stop us returning.

Lovely place immaculate and staff were friendly. From a vegan point of view the Sunday lunch option of fake Chicken was poor, watery, tasteless, no substance at all!! The portion of vegetables on my plate consisted of, 12 peas, a slither of carrot and a desert spoon of Mashed potato. I paid £ 19.50 for this exactly the same as the Carnivore option which had 2 thick pieces of animal and a very reasonably sized Yorkshire Pudding. I definitely got the wrong end of the deal and left hungry. I feel there is no point of putting alternative meat options on the menu if it is done so poorly!! I don't eat Big portions but the size of my meal was so small, I left hungry. I can of course only comment on the Vegan option but as one for 12 years this was probably the worst I have ever eaten. If you are a bigger eater you may need a snack before you go. Ps I did have 4 shreds of cabbage too.

My sister and respective partners visited this restaurant some while ago to meet up and as we had a good experience we decide to do so again. This time the service was painfully slow. Having finished our starter we waited ages and then three meals arrived which weren't ours and we were then brought the meals that had become luke warm. The food was good, and was tasty but the service was nowhere near good enough.

Had a lovely meal here after a long walk in the area. We'd booked a table but they were happy to let us change to an outside table. I had the sea bass with the pea veloute which was divine, two peeps had the pie de jour (Mediterranean chicken & chorizo - which came encased in suet pastry) which was described by both as superb and our more conservative friend had the fish and chips (he always does) which he said had the nicest batter he'd ever had (high praise indeed as he's 67 so has tried loads!) The service was friendly and efficient. This was our third visit, over a number of years (we live quite a distance away) and, yet again, it didn't disappoint.

My partner and I dined at The Plough Inn last week. We ordered the meat pizza and the plough inn burger. My pizza was borderline inedible and I tried on numerous occasions to flag down a member of wait staff to send it back but due to the good weather and sitting inside, it was difficult to find somebody other than the bar staff. When a member of staff came to clear our plates, she queried if I want to box up my pizza as I had only eaten a slice. I explained that I had been trying to grab her and that the pizza was like a frozen one and had no taste and was hard in texture. She joked that she didn’t cook it so wasn’t bothered that I’d left it all. The next time she came over, we were charged the full amount including the £15 for a pizza I only had one slice of. The member of staff I presume was the manager wasn’t around at this point and the only other members of staff were under 18s so we left. Overall, I’m disappointed in our experience as I didn’t eat. We had to go through the drive in as I was still hungry. The quality of partner’s burger was poor but at least edible. All the food just tasted like pre-heated ready meals. I emailed their team about this and have posted on their page multiple times after them to reply but have been ghosted. They must rely on passing trade from walkers so do not care about good customer service or quality food.

Since this pub had been awarded Derbyshire Dining Pub of the Year for many years up to 2019 we had high expectations so maybe that's why we were so disappointed. We had the set menu for £25 each which seemingly had been designed to require no culinary skill and the minimum of ingredients - a 'salad' was just 5 slices of tomato, 3 manky salad leaves and a dollop of mozzarella, the Eton Mess contained just one strawberry, cut into pieces, the mushroom and asparagus linguine had just one asparagus stalk, again cut into pieces. We've had better meals in Sheffield at 2 for a fiver yet this was two for £50. Thankfully almost half the bill was paid for by Rishi Sunak. Sorry Rishi but you were robbed too. Awful service too - disgraceful lack of attentiveness. Fabulous setting though and great beer (Yorkshire Farmers) so well worth stopping for a drink but how did they ever win an award for their dining?

5 of us met here as a central point suitable for a pre- Christmas lunch. A pleasantly warm dining room, and nicely set table with crackers greeted us.We chose from both a la carte and Christmas menus some choosing whitebait, some the mezze platter. Some of mezze was rather bland, but in the whole all passed muster. Main courses however were disappointing- vegetables were very undercooked (sprouts so hard neither fork nor knife would penetrate them, ditto roast potatoes.) The steak pie was also bland and flavourless. The plates were lovely and hot, but the meals were lukewarm.A waitress came to ask if the meals were ok, but did not wait for an answer so I told the one who came to collect the plates that I had been disappointed with my meal - she said she'd tell the kitchen. I specifically mentioned undercooked vegetables.I heard no more!

We we this afternoon for 3.30pm and turned up feeling hungry, there was 8 of us 1) ordered a lager and bitter shandy to have instead of lemonade soda water This was swapped 2) ordered 4 Sunday roasts 2 came out very quickly with supposedly well done beef, they changed the Beef 3) very disappointing only veg was green veg peas, runner beans and mange toute, not at all appetising 4) we waited a further 25-30 mins for the other two meals, where only thing I could hav3 on a roast was chicken nuggets, but a very burnt black Yorkshire pudding, a rock hard roast potatoe. This we don’t find acceptable for a £16 per person meal very vert overpriced half this amount for what you get would be adequate There were no apologies loads of staff and none seemed to know what they were do8ng and no apologies for our problems of offers of taking a Sunday dinner off the bill or drinks free of free desert, no one of the staff seemed at a bothered, or mentioned they were short on veg. Kids meal overpriced and didn’t com3 for a further 10/15 minutes after all adults Nice pub, but terrible food and staff that don’t know what they are doing, and chef needs more lessons An apology and offer of some compensation would of been very nice

I visited The Plough Inn and stayed in the deluxe room with my mother for three nights. We just wanted a peaceful break in Derbyshire and stay in a lovely hotel, which we did. I found the rooms immaculately clean and very comfortable and they were serviced daily. The restaurant was lovely too and the food was very good. What I liked about it was the service, which was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The staff/ owners were very professional and made our stay there very welcoming. I would certainly recommend this place for a peaceful and tranquil stay with great service and good food.

We had a great Sunday lunch here a few weeks ago. The service was very good, attentive and professional. The food was well prepared and the portions were generous. With a bottle of wine the meal came to around £30 a head, so considering we had starters a main and a couple of desserts split between the three of us. The roast beef served as Sunday roast lunch was very good, well cooked medium rare, perfect. We would go back again for sure.

We regularly visit this area for holidays and this is a recommended restaurant. In our experience the quality is variable. Two mid week visits were fine but we had the most expensive options from the menu. Our last visit was on a Sat evening and the experience was poor. It took a while to be shown to our table and then we had a wait for a long time to get menus and a drinks order. The waitress was in a panic, not at all professional. The food was variable. My daughter had an expensive steak dish which was fine, my wife had the gammon which she found very salty and was refunded. My steak pie was described by the waitress as a pudding was more like a pudding than a pie. Not good.

The menu ranges from a veggie risotto (£11) through fish and chips (£14) to curried monkfish and stir fried duck (both c£19). We dined on two nights with friends. The food was very good quality, but the portion sizes are not very large (even for pub classics), which makes the prices seem a little toppy. The service is very efficient and friendly and the pub is very nicely decorated (traditional style). The beer and wine selection is good, with everyone finding what they wanted. It was busy so maybe worth considering booking.

We ate here while staying at the hotel (hotel stay reviewed separately). Our dog was welcomed into the bar area and we were seated in a quiet corner by the friendly staff. The food was very tasty and very delicately cooked. The salmon and scallop starter was very tasty although a little expensive I thought at £11. The linguini was also tasty and the prawns were plentiful. My husband had the steak and was very complimentary about its cooking and flavour. The peppercorn sauce was also very good. The lagers were good. All in all a very tasty meal, with good portions. The staff were very helpful, particularly the young lady with long dark hair. Good food and drink.

On our way driving to Castleton we stopped off to have lunch on the outskirts of Hathersage at The Plough Inn. So pleased that we did. All three of us had an excellent meal of scampi, perhaps some of the best we have ever eaten, and we have had quite a few meals like this in varying places, but this was truly great Home made chips and tartare sauce rounded the meal off nicely. A beautiful pub inside, cosy, welcoming and relaxing. Courteous staff too. Could not have asked for a better lunch time experience.

9 work colleagues and myself undertook a 50km charity walk and ended it in the Plough Inn tired and bedraggled. We stopped for food and drinks and the owner couldn’t have been of more help. Obviously we were a little stiff and not overly keen on walking anywhere and the owner looked after us by doing the leg work to make sure drinks and belongings ended up in the right place. Add to that that he drove us to the train station (two trips) and we couldn’t recommend this place more. Also let’s not forget that the food was amazing and the drinks were bought to us on demand. Great place, definitely recommended.

We dined on a wet and cold evening and were made welcome by the attentive staff. There was a log fire burning. Many tables were reserved but without a reservation we were seated quickly. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. The food was excellent, especially the liver and bacon which was cooked rare to medium after a request. They asked which is unusual.

Came here on a Saturday evening by chance, as other places on Hathersage were either busy or we didn't fancy them.

This wonderful restaurant and pub (with rooms and shepherd's huts) epitomises the superb British country Inn. This is our "go to" place when we have visitors coming to see us from farther away but also when we want a lovely treat ourselves. The food is imaginative, healthy and delicious. The whole atmosphere is a welcoming one whether it's the fireside in winter or sitting in the lovely garden in summer. The management seamlessly served 14 friends on a reunion of Nottingham teachers on two memorable occasions in the garden They were memorable occasions. The service is excellent, nothing seems too much trouble. Do give it a try, if you haven't already, you will not be disappointed.

Can’t fault the dinner or service we had here! The food was exceptional and the service was brilliant. I don't live locally to here (about an hour away) but it's always worth the trip!

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
