Really disappointed with our visit last night. We have been lots of times since this restaurant opened and use it for takeaway but last night our main course was just not up to the usual standard. I had the spicy krapow with vegetables and the sauce was really gloopy and thick not the light sauce you usually get and the vegetables weren’t varied and quite mushy. My partner was equally disappointed as his sauce was really salty also more gloopy than normal. The starters were great and the staff polite as ever, the new seating area at the front is a great addition but when we mentioned the food quality we were told they were training a new chef and that’s why it’s different and just a sorry. Unfortunately we weren’t paying trainee prices so probably won’t visit again for a while

Very fine reasonably priced food. Not like in Bangkok but pretty good for Monton Road.

I’m attaching soup they advertising and soup I received ! It’s just salty liquid it’s definitely not a Tom yam soup. I received salty water with mushrooms without anything. Disgusting! 🤮 throw to toilet ! Other dishes came without side, so you need to pay extra to get rice. Waste of money

Having been to Thailand many times, this is one of the few UK Thai restuarants happy to put all the dishes in the middle of the table for your party so you can eat some of everything. The only way to eat Thai! Authenticity is good. Service is quick. Don't order by courses, just order about 3 dishes per person to arrive all at once and all work your way through it. Recommended!

gorgeous food, service is absolutely incredible can't fault them at all. The staff are so wonderful, I've been twice and both times were as good as the other. The restaurant is relatively small so not great for big groups but really beautiful inside, good vibes. Vegan and veggie options are incredible & the sticky rice is insane

Update: our eating in experience was terrible this time! The food was so bland that even a 1 chilli dish with dried red chillis visible didn't have the slightest hint of chilli! My wife was even more scathing and wasn't that impressed before. An utter rip-off for the price of >£20 per head and the worst meal I can remember having in years and the food was SO bad that the only recommendation I can make is, "don't go there, ever!". I've reviewed a lot of places over the years (check my profile out) and have never before felt so inspired to write a such scathing review. Service was good and it wasn't busy though was early evening on Fri night. Didn't really have a very Thai feel to the restaurant though.

Our favourite Thai by a margin. The chef special massaman lamb shank is incredibly rich, creamy and tasty.

Excellent mixed starter. Main course was really good too. All the expected dishes would have liked more innovation.

Delicious authentic Thai food. Haven eaten here 4 or 5 times now, and also had their take out. Tom Yam is one of the best, if not the best, Thai restaurant I've had the pleasure of dining at. It's not the cheapest, but if you want delicious food, service and atmosphere, you get what you pay for. Highly recommend the Krapow dish (spicy stir fry). 5 out of 5.

The food was dreadful. The starters was dreadful. Everything was overcooked. The sauces was like poison. I would not recommend this place, not only because the food and service was absolutely dreadful. It was very expensive for such poor quality food. This place comes across as extremely overrated, and I will never be eating in ther again

Heard good reviews on this place so tried last night, was really disappointed with food, main meal was Stir fried cashew nuts with chicken, meal was really salty and there was no more than 5 cashew nuts, was expensive for what you got won’t be rushing back.

What a wonderful night we had at the Tom Yam in Monton, couldn't have gone any better. The food is amazing, the staff very friendly and attentive, the surroundings and seating superb. It's a very special place. We will certainly be coming back here again very soon.

Ordered takeaway. Very surprised with the price. Way more expensive than any other Thai restaurants in the city centre, but food was not exceptionally better.

We were visiting family and wanted to grab a bite to eat in the area. It’s been quiet a few years since we have been to Monton & had a few eateries to choose from but my nephew suggested we try this spot and it didn’t disappoint the food was awesome both our dishes were jam packed with flavour and good portion sizes to I ordered Stir In Chilli Oil with a side of Jasmine rice & the hubby ordered Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken. We visited at lunch time & was pretty quiet so service was fast, the staff were very welcoming and the ambiance atmosphere was lovely love the black & Gold interior I would definitely recommend this Thai restaurant and next time we’re in the UK will definitely be back

Food was lovely and fresh. The restaurant decor was great and staff were welcoming. The drinks wasn’t expensive at all which is always a bonus and worth going back for. My absolute only criticism was they had put parsley on the salad and not coriander.

Very good Thai restaurant, they do takeaways, and deliveries. Food is very good, service is excellent, the starters I tried were all good, the Tom Yam soup was good but could do with being spicier, this is my personal preference. The main dishes were a generous size, they were delicious, again I would have preferred a spicier taste, but this is my preference also. Recommended.

Booked online for the 20:30 sitting on Saturday 17th June. This was our 2nd dining experience at the Tom Yam, and it didn't disappoint. Ribs and special starter were delicious, as were the yellow thai curry and beef stir fry. Service was excellent. 2 starters, 2 mains, 4 drinks £80.Already looking forward to our next visit.

Nice and cosy Thai restaurant where you can find a good and proper Thai taste of food. I like the black and gold decorations that remind the luxurious Thai atmosphere. The owner, Kaew, is so friendly and kind. I ordered spicy papaya salad, Nuea dad deaw, sticky rice and chicken stir-fried basil leaf. They were good tastes. It's a shame they don't have Thai drinks like Thai tea, which I always look for when visiting Thai restaurants. However, we will be back again if we are around.

Loved it! Went with friends last Friday for the first time. The service was spot on, the food was delicious and the ambience atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be frequenting, loved the experience . I never post on anything but felt i had to write a review of how good it was and how much we enjoyed it!

Really very disappointed with the food. We go to Thailand every year and have been about 15 times in total and love Thai Food. The restaurant is beautiful and really hits the Thai feels. The staff are mostly Thai which is wonderful and we would assume the chef was Thai. However we where so disappointed with the food. Assuming the chef is Thai we where so disappointed. My husband had Thai Green Curry which tasted nothing like a Thai Green Curry we have ever tasted. I had Massaman Beef Curry and it was so sweet and sickly. Considering it’s such a lovely restaurant we where so disappointed with the food. We’ve had a few friends who have gone and enjoyed it, but it just didn’t taste like the Thai food we are used to. Sadly we would never go again which is gutting as we absolutely love Thai food more than other cuisine.

We were really looking forward to trying this place but unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. Maybe it was a bad day or might be better to sit in than take out but The chicken was really dry in the curry we ordered without bamboo shoots and it was full of them also very small potion size, the noodles in the pad thai were all chewy and clumped together and the 4 prawns in the dish again over cooked. The salt and pepper chips had to put in the air fryer at home as them were undercooked ..very disappointed and won't be returning to pick up a take away

Very delicious Thai food with some classic options. Reasonably priced and the restaurant itself it stunning!

Please do not waste your time, this place is abysmal. Upon arriving, we were left to stand unattended in the entrance hallway, despite arriving exactly on time at 9pm, the time of which we specifically booked in for. After a period of waiting and despite visible empty tables, we were seated tightly between two other tables. Even though we specifically requested a table to the rear of the restaurant and having this confirmed over the phone, we were seated towards the front of the restaurant, which was draughty and rushed. We were left waiting for around 10 - 15 minutes before a member of staff arrived to take our drink order, however, instead of taking the order, we were advised 'can you move please, we need this table to push together into a six', as the nearby table of four had vacated. Again, this was despite there being other tables available to make a cover of six. Once seated at the new table, the table was uneven and frustratingly moved back and forth. Instead of offering a seat move, the staff came to the table and placed bottle tops underneath, in the hope that it would balance it out, which didn’t work, and the problem persisted all evening. The food arrived thereafter, which failed to live up to expectations. Firstly, the appetiser - a mixed starter - was cold, particularly the chicken satay, the rump steak strips were chewy, and only one pot of sauce was on the plate. The hot and sour soup tasted bland and had a solitary two king prawns in the whole dish. Furthermore, the main course arrived (beef in chilli oil and chicken in chilli oil) shortly followed, both of which were watery and contained minimal amounts of meat. Additionally, the chicken dish resembled and tasted more like sweet and sour and was indubitably the incorrect dish. There are plenty more alternate options for half the price and much nicer!

Went here for first time hoping for a great experience but was disappointed to be honest. Food was pretty tasteless prawns were frozen potatoes were not cooked either. Plates were designed to hold very little food. Starter came out after the main which was also frozen . Staff looked like they didn’t want to be here and no atmosphere at all very depressing so unfortunately the hunt for a good place to eat at lunch in Monton continues. Maybe it’s busier in the evening but it’s like a morgue during the day time. Very basic Thai food made with no love at all AVOID

Beautiful restaurant that looks like it belongs in the city centre. Great food. Only gave 4 stars for atmosphere as we were tucked in the corner by the rear doors which the staff were in and out of quite regularly. But otherwise excellent

Love our local little Thai, thank you for coming to Monton! I tried a bit of everything when it first opened up, all the dishes are really good but the chicken in special southern sauce (gai kamint) is my new favourite, they knock it out the park every single time. Highly recommend if you like creamy, medium spice dishes. Lovely, friendly staff too and it's good to see it's always busy so always book ahead on weekends.

Wow just wow! This place was amazing the staff were so friendly and attentive to your needs, i went here with a friend and the food is amazing 10/10 it is a small restaurant so your definitely better off pre-booking but it feels so right the atmosphere is nice and chilled the drinks were amazing we had strawberry gins that had fresh fruit in them and again the food was top class.. good value too we had a 3 course meal and 2 big strawberry gins for £38 each honestly your missing out if you don't go to this place

Pleasant Waitresses and bar staff. Same with the food, modern Thai dishes with a difference. The menu had plenty of variety and nicely presented, I didnt think to photograph the dishes the two of us had maybe next time but took photos of the interior surroundings

This recently converted Thai restaurant is perfectly positioned on monton high street. There’s free parking over at the church with a 5 min walk. Service was incredibly fast. Order a drink and it’s there’s within a minute. Food was perfect and menu spice is correctly labelled. The decor was lovely with black and gold themed. Tables are a little tight but adds to the atmosphere. You definitely need to book before heading down as it really busy.

Went last night with my husband the decor is stunning and the food was delicious, I had Massaman curry and he had Red Thai curry both with chicken (I asked for no nuts on my meal and they did without a problem ) we will definitely be back 👍
