For the first time in my adult paying life, I did not tip at a restaurant. The evening was a shambles and most of it was within their control. We had a 6pm reservation and arrived at 5:45 to queues outside the door. We quickly established that everyone in the queue also had reservations so we joined and waited. Others joined the queue behind and within minutes there was as many people behind us as there were in front. At around 6:10 we’re now at the front of the queue and only then were we told that there had been an error with the booking system which had caused too many bookings. This was clearly not of their own doing but they could have managed the queue by explaining to us earlier so we knew there were delays. As polite as she was trying to be, the lady booking us in was clearly out of her depth, she didn’t acknowledge anyone until they were at the front of the queue and considering all that was going on, she was also delivering drinks to tables whilst servers were just standing around. She seated us around 6:20 and said that our first drinks were complimentary due to the wait which was a very nice gesture, however she didn’t seem to inform our server who had no idea so we had to tell them. We then placed our order, we had a ‘perk’ from their app which was a free garlic bread so we asked if we could apply this to our order and for it to come out with the starters. Our drinks arrived, and we asked for a jug of water for the table, then our starters arrived but no garlic bread. We had no check back on the starters so we had no chance to ask about this but didn’t want our starters to go cold so carried on. Our empty starter plates were still on the table when our mains arrived. Still no garlic bread and still no water. At this point we were asked if we needed anything else so we were able to ask about our water and our garlic bread (to be honest at this point it was just out of curiosity), we were told it was coming. This was the only time during our whole meal we had any check in. The food was nice, the garlic bread arrived half way through our mains as did the water and we carried on and ate and drank. Two out of the three of us had finished whilst the third member of our party was still eating their food, but the empty plates were cleared… this to be honest was what pissed me off. The booking errors were not their fault but they could have managed the situation better, the poor service was mildly frustrating but clearing a table whilst someone is still eating is just an absolute no, it’s so rude and that was the point I knew I was not tipping. Anyway, not to ruin an evening, we decided to have a dessert but rather than being asked if we wanted dessert, we had our bill bought over (we hadn’t asked for it!). We politely advised we would like to order dessert and was then given the menu. Dessert ordered, delivered and eaten… they were very nice, we now asked for our bill. Throughout the evening we had different servers delivering to us so no consistency and the lady from the start of the evening was nowhere to be seen and you guessed it, our bill included full price for the ‘complimentary’ drinks and the ‘perk’ garlic bread. Once again we had to explain that the drinks were offered free as an apology and the garlic bread was a perk from the app. Our bill was adjusted and we paid and as we were leaving noticed that we had still been charged for the garlic bread. We had given up at this point and just left. I have no problem paying full price for our meal, that was always the intention when going out but being offered something complimentary and then having to repeatedly remind them of this was uncomfortable. The errors at the starts of the evening was out of their control but everything else was very much in their control and they failed. As I looked round, there were multiple tables complaining about something so I know we were not the only ones having a poor experience. I like Zizzi’s, but I can guarantee I will never spend my money there again.

In summary, unpleasant environment, poor food and poor service. The place is very noisy and the air conditioning/heating is not properly controlled. The pizzas were very dry and crispy around the edges, the pasta dish I had was lacking flavour and the piece of salmon was a thin strip about an inch wide. Black pepper wasn't offered. One of the group ordered a dish with a side salad but the salad never arrived. Water wasn't topped up and service was very slow and spasmodic. On top of that they added 10% on the bill for service. No thanks.

6 of us out for a Birthday meal, music was loud and we were right by the speaker, we couldnt hear each other, our table was in a cramped area but a very nice waiter moved us, our waiter was not very welcoming or friendly, he took our food orders but we had even ordered drinks yet, we had trouble ordering because we could hear the waither and he could hear us. There was some confusion. my food was a amazing but we had really salty calamari, pizza that was still raw in the middle, one asked about glutton free food we were just handed a big blue folder. vegan pasta with cheese on, one pasta dish was very bland, a main pizza came out with the starters, one pizza was so thin it was hard like a cracker, we had a second round of drinks that they brought out twice, another waiter remove my prawn starter that came on a hook so quickly if my daughter in law hadn't moved it would have hit her in the head. Were not complainers but loads of things went wrong. On the whole the service was poor. Won't return.

We booked an early table for dinner before going to the theatre when we first arrived. I thought it was closed as nobody was outside but when we got inside it was completely full. The table that we got was a little bit crammed at the back however the service and the quality of food made up for this. I waiter was a little bit of a comedian and he really did do a fabulous job. We both had the spicy meatballs and they were amazing, so much so that we could not eat them all.

Ordered take away via UberEats, including a gluten free pizza for myself. When the order arrived the pizza box was marked in pen ‘contains gluten.’ I cannot eat gluten for health reasons, tried to call the restaurant to no answer. Seems they just couldn’t be bothered to make a gluten free pizza? Or even call us to say that there was an issue with making it and ask if it was preference or illness?

Not a great experience here. Went for a pre theatre dinner. We delayed ordering by 30 mins as we wanted a more relaxed experience. Firstly they didn’t have the wine we wanted so the wine we did end up ordering was a) over priced and b) very poor quality. I asked for a glass of ice to go with my wine it wasnt brought to our table. When we did order we had a starter of olives. They didn’t apparently have any olive sticks or any cocktail sticks at the bar so we had to eat with our fingers. None of the olives were pitted and many of them were mushy so obviously old or poor quality. Before we had even had half our olives our main course arrived. H had pasta which was overcooked and Luke warm and I had what was supposed to be a pepperoni pizza with about 5 small bits of pepperoni on. The cheese came away as you cut the pizza and it was barely warm. Overall very poor but expensive meal. It also lacked flavour which was surprising given it was pepperoni and needed salt. Wouldn’t return here again.

Where the staff were indeed lovely and the food arrived quickly the food was not good quality. Big bowls of pasta with very little else, very few prawns and sauce was heavy on the chilli making it unpleasant to eat. My husband’s spaghetti bolognaise was a very sloppy sauce, lacking meat and flavour on pasta. Very disappointing and not value for money.

The food is decent and filling, however you can often tell that some of the items on the menu are not fresh. To me this is a big deal as I like to go out and enjoy a nice fresh meal! This was however not the case when we have visited Zizzi’s back in January. We had ordered the calamari as a starter and they were very oily upon arrival and also chewy after we had tried them. This was a big disappointment as I love calamari and was really looking forward to this dish. For my main dish I opted for one of the fresh pasta options (truffle carbonara) and I am very glad I did. You could tell the pasta was “homemade” and the sauce was to die for. The truffle flavour was very nice and the pasta was very creamy which I enjoyed a lot! My partner opted for the pepperoni pizza and he was very pleased with it, but it was a bit plain for my taste. One thing I will say is, their portion sizes are amazing, the pizza could easily be shared between 2 people and so could the pasta honestly. Overall we had a great time and the food was good, will probably be returning as it was great value for money as well!

Popped in randomly to get some late dinner, and we’re seated quickly which was great. Our waiter was ok, but when I asked for a Diet Coke he kept trying to push me to get something else as it was “the weekend” - felt a little insensitive. I ordered the Pancetta and Truffle Carbonara, which was essentially a cream-based carbonara with one piece of Pancetta on top. Considering it was £17, I was very disappointed. My friend ordered the Sausage and Chorizo Lasagne, which was a very VERY dry lasagne with a sprinkle of chorizo on top - again, disappointing for £17. When we asked for the bill to leave, the waiter handed us the machine, and then literally hovered over me as it came to the tipping. I didn’t want to tip as our experience wasn’t great, but I felt pressured to do so as he literally stood over me. My friend, who is a bit more confident than me, managed to not tip him even though he hovered over her too. Overall, even though my expectations were on the floor, the food and service were disappointing. Won’t be going back unless it’s our only choice.

Went here before seeing a show at The Alex. The service was excellent, really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was very good, the pork dish especially delicious. Reading other reviews, it sounds like it's a bit hit and miss which is a shame because when they get it right, it's very good.

There was a board outside the restaurant advertising 30% off food if we joined the zillionaire club. I did so but couldn’t find the 30% offer. Asked staff member for help but he was totally disinterested and just said that without the offer code there was nothing he could do. The restaurant was quiet but we had to keep calling staff when we needed anything. I had the sea bass which was unpleasant. Sitting on a bed of vegetables out of a jar in a puddle of oil. Eating as a family this restaurant is not cheap, especially when we were unable to get the discount advertised outside. The combination of poor quality food and staff who would obviously prefer to be somewhere else means I will never return. There are a lot of much better restaurants in Birmingham to choose from.

We were in the restaurant for less than an hour but managed to have 4 different servers, none of who seemed interested in being there! The salmon pasta was very average, and the pasta was over cooked, left most of it but didn't get a chance to comment as the plate was whisked away, and nobody asked how the meal was. Definitely won't be returning.

My daughter just returned with a pasta dish of theirs as a takeaway. It was extremely bland with a weird aftertaste I get from Wagamama food too. Checked their prices and apparently this dish cost £14. £3 would be overpriced. I have no opinion on their staff or service obviously.

I had great hopes for a great meal as I’d had a lovely meal in York Zizzi having just been diagnosed with gluten and dairy intolerance. The waitress there was really helpful and I was impressed that much of the menu could be adapted to my diet. Unfortunately when I went to the Mailbox Zizzi in Birmingham. I felt rather disappointed. The servers were disinterested and just gave me a folder with spreadsheets randomly inserted and was left to try and work out what I could have. Some sort of colour coding would have been useful to divide the different courses. The spreadsheets would have been easier to read if they were presented in book form where you didn’t have to keep rotating the folder round sideways to read it. As it turned out there was minimal choice for me. No gluten free pizzas. I had King prawn pasta - only 3-4 prawns / small potion -for about £15. In York I’d been offered some complimentary gluten free pasta crisps. However in Birmingham I noted they were £2.95 - but I was told they were cooked in the same pan as ordinary pasta - so I couldn’t have them. All in all -a very ordinary meal with disinterested staff.

Have been to zizzis a few times including this one and always enjoyed the food and had good service. Arrived at zizzis on a quiet Wednesday night, plenty of tables outside and sat down at one. The waiter arrived promptly and we explained that we would just like drinks (we had a dinner reservation a couple of hours later somewhere else) he then told us that we could only order alcoholic drinks with main courses otherwise we would have to have a soft drink only and then walked away. So weird, never been anywhere that wasn't busy that wouldn't serve drinks especially in such a relaxed setting, zizzis is hardly a high end restaurant! Well zizzis my friend and I got up and walked a couple of hundred yards away where another bar was more than happy to serve us and you lost out on £40 worth of drinks

The starter- cheese, was lovely. The beef brisket was more like a bolognese which was not what was expected and the potatos with the chicken tasted like they were fried in lemon. The cocktails tasted like there was no alcohol and were watered down. Wouldn’t recommend.

Hello, I came to Zizzis yesterday evening with my work colleagues as our Christmas meal. I called beforehand and the woman I spoke to was very helpful & confirmed I could extend our booking from 8 to 12 people which I greatly appreciated. When we got there the booking could not be found, causing me stress with everyone else - when in fact it was there all along and the person at the front didn’t look properly. Once we were seated we were given our waiter for the evening who unfortunately was not helpful in any way at all. - We ordered two portions of olives, only one appeared. - My friend ordered a meat pizza and when he came and bought it to her she asked for some extra pizza sauce to which he replied with it’s got meat on it, is that the meat you eat? (She was Indian and it just came across quite insensitive) - I don’t think he smiled once during the entire 2 hours we were there - He refused to engage with us, or ask if the meals were okay - Trying to ask for more drinks made us feel bad as it appeared to be a very tiresome task for him to do his job Unfortunately I did not get his name as no one at Zizzis wore name badges last night. I was deeply disappointed in the service we had for our Christmas meal yesterday evening. Management had no idea how to greet guests dining at the restaurant, lack of engagement/disregarding whom ever he interacted with. As a whole the restaurant seemed very understaffed (don’t take my word for it). However they all appeared overwhelmed (apart from 2/3), lack of training among the team. Food was very very bland. We specifically asked for a Bruschetta without Parmesan, listed on the menu (therefore we knew to ask). It arrived with Parmesan TWICE! Eventually we were brought a Bruschetta with a tiny amount of Tomato & Dressing. Made for a distressing date night 😂😂 Location is lovely, overlooking canal - looks great at night!

Lovely staff and lovely food. Was asked on entering if anyone in the party had allergies and were given a comprehensive allergen guide. Staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and made to feel comfortable with young toddler. Lunch set menu (2 courses £11.95 and 3 courses £15.95) was very good value for money and delicious. Kids menu was extensive and had a lot of choice (6.75 for 3 courses and babycinno). Would definitely return, staff were a real credit to the company.

My partner and I went there for dinner as we had very good past experience at this particular Zizzi's (there is one more in Birmingham by Brindleyplace). After about 5-10 mins standing on the front entrance door behind a group of ladies who looked like they are waiting for someone to find them a table (which was not the case.. I mean seriously!? Being there for a while and noone paid attention on what's happening on the entrance?), we were welcomed by a waiter who quickly found a quiet table for us. Happy so far. The drinks and the main course (chicken with potato and green beans) were a bit of let down - each time we go to the restaurant we found the portions getting smaller and smaller, and more importantly - less tasty. This was the second 'black mark' for the evening. The ratio quality - price was unreasonable, considering that the restaurant was only halfly full when we arrived. Then the waiting began. 15 mins for the empty plates to be picked up (even though there were few ladies from the staff who seemed to have nothing to do, but did not approached us). We then decided to have a go and try to compensate with desserts (waiting for the menu to be given back to us for a good 20 mins). Finally, after being able to order, we faced another over 30 min wait until 2 simple desserts (banana calzone & chocolate melt) were delivered, which were also not the quality expected from this restaurant.

Went to this Zizzi's on the Saturday night for bank holiday. Managed to walk in and get a table for 2 straight away sitting outside. Beautiful canalside location.

It was very noisy, and not a lot of waiting staff, my friend had a mushroom risotto which she didn’t eat, said was very bland and had no taste, nobody came to check if our meals were ok until they cleared the plates by that time it was too late, we weren’t offered any money back just if my friend would like anything else which she said no as we’d all finished.

We are familiar with Zizzis and are also familiar with a professional service. We tried to get in to this establishment for 4 people without reservation. We were frowned at and told to wait a minute. We waited and saw the front of house going outside to take a selfie with random people. The man had a dark goatee. His attitude stinks. One of which I wouldn’t employ for free. He came back in eventually had a quick look but at that point we felt so insulted that we had to leave. Disgusting. Sat in Red Peppers opposite. Far more friendly.

This restaurant has a good atmosphere and I like the location, canalside in the heart of the Mailbox. The food was good, service could have been better. Prices were a little high I thought.

We was greeted by Victor (Well we think that was his name) who said we would have to wait to be seated as we didn't reserve. So asked us if we would like to wait outside in the terrace. We only had to wait 15/minutes so didn't really bother us. We was then served by a young polite waitress blonde hair we didn't get her name. Considering the place was very busy the turn around for the food was amazing. We both throughly enjoyed our Calzone. The fonde was absolutely bang on.

Visited for the first time yesterday lunch time with a friend and my 7 year old. Started off well when we walked into restaurant, greeted by the manager Paul who was polite and welcoming but unfortunately it went downhill from there!! We chose to sit outside on the terrace as it was a sunny day, the waitress who came to take our order was not friendly in the slightest, she had a sour face and did not smile, her attitude was quite rude and abrupt when she took the order, it was as if she couldn't wait to finish taking the order and get rid of us. They brought the starters out but then left us with no cutlery, we waited a minute or two in case they were bringing some out but they didn't so I had to go back into the restaurant and ask at the bar as nobody was around, they said they would bring some cutlery out but after waiting a few more minutes outside at our table, nobody came and my garlic king prawns were getting cold, so again I went inside to ask for cutlery, finally we got cutlery then ate our starters, nobody came to ask if everything was ok with our food or check that we had finished our starters, all of a sudden 2 waitresses appeared with our main courses, luckily we had finished our starters but nobody had bothered to clear our starter dishes away so they then had to juggle the mains on the table whilst clearing our starters away!!! Then when they left I realised that they had not brought the side orders of broccoli and sweet potato wedges for my daughter, I waited to see if they were bringing it out from the kitchen, after a couple of minutes nobody appeared so once again I had to go back into the restaurant and ask one of the bar staff who said he would go and check, he disappeared in the direction of the kitchen, I decided to wait inside for him this time until he brought them out, he didn't come back and after a while the manager walked by so I told him we were missing the side dishes, he said he would sort it out and told me to go back to my table, I also took this opportunity to give him feedback of our experience so far and of the waitress who took our order, I went back to my seat but unfortunately by the time they brought the broccoli and sweet potato wedges out for my daughter, she had practically finished all her pizza!! When they brought the side dishes out I ordered an orange squash but they brought blackcurrant squash instead (!!) so this had to be sent back. I was beginning to feel exasperated by this point thinking can't they get anything right?They also forgot to give my daughter the chocochina that they are supposed to give at the end of each childrens meal. The food was average, overpriced and the waiting service was definitely lacking. This was our first time at Zizis and due to the appalling service we will not be going back. We have had a lot better service and experience at other pizza eateries which are also better value with just as good food if not better.

Hot day. Full restaurant. We had not booked, but got a table for 2 outside. Service excellent. Both bar guy and waiter brought items quickly and correctly. Food excellent. Waiter was fast and very good at his job.Place was packed and I am not surprised...on a Wednesday too. Right by canal, so lovely setting.

Wir wollten noch rasch vorm Konzert etwas essen gehen. In England ist die Esskultur halt ganz anders als bei uns, die Restaurants sind durchgehend gut besucht und ohne Reservierung ist kaum ein Tisch irgendwo zu bekommen. Der Restaurantleiter hatte aber ein Herz und gab uns auch ohne Reservierung und obwohl der Laden fast aus allen Nähten platzte einen Tisch. Sogar das Essen kam sehr schnell nachdem wir darum gebeten hatten weil wir eng in der Zeit waren. Geschmacklich fand ich meine Nudeln mit Gambas sehr lecker.

Seated promptly after confirming our reservation... waited a while before our drinks orders where taken . We then waited around 20 mins for our drinks to arrive with no apology for the wait. Our food took another 30 mins to arrive... at this point I was tempted to ask the other table for a slice of their pizza to fill the gap!

I visited Zizzi’s for the first time with a group of friends for a birthday meal. Despite the food being delicious the service was very slow. We waited about 15 minutes before our server came over to the table to get a drinks order and then about the same wait afterwards to order food. Once most the food had arrived one guest from our party waited a further 10 minutes for their main course pizza. We then ordered desserts to be told that the chef forgot about the cheesecake so it would take another 5 minutes for the last desert to arrive. The restaurant was fairly busy but our sever didn’t apologise for the wait or offer anything whilst we were waiting. Such a shame because the food was lovely, just let down by the service.

Visited here on a Saturday afternoon before going to the theatre with my young grandson a very enjoyable experience.The sevice was great and my grandson wanted a main meal not on the menu but he had had before at another zizzi. This was no problem to them and made his day.The food was very good excellent size portions and well presented.

Went to Zizzi tonight for my husbands 50th there was 10 of us and our waitress was Sophie all I can say is she was amazing fast efficient and above all so friendy and constantly had a smile on her face she made the night for us and would like to pass it on - the food was also amazing would defo recommend the place was packed but service was 1st class

Just days after the demise of Jamie’s Italian we visited Zizzi’s Italian at Birmingham Brindley Place. This was a lunchtime during half term so as you would expect it was very busy. Plenty of staff taking orders etc but just two people in the kitchen.

The whole experience started off on a bad foot, the greeter was reluctant to give us a walk-in table. Cocktails were a let down. Food took a long while to come out, and a dish presented was incorrect. No apology was given, and the correct food items took another while to come out. Student discount was applied to the bill, however the manager did not offer any further discount for the incorrect food item let alone an apology. Eventually he agreed to remove this item from the bill but was clearly not happy about it.

"Visité Zizzi (Mailbox Birmingham) tenía un cupón del 20%. No fue mi primera opción de restaurante, pero decidí ir allí de todos modos con la otra mitad. El servicio era lento el camarero finalmente vino y tomó nuestra orden. Después de esperar aproximadamente 20 minutos la comida llegó y estaba fría. A nadie le gusta comer papas y pollo fríos y la pizza apenas estaba tibia, mi compañero me pidió que la cambiara, pero si hubiera tenido que dejar la mesa para atraer a un camarero. Debido a que tenía hambre y he estado esperando la pizza, un clásico italiano caliente no estuvo a la altura de lo que decía. Muy decepcionado para cuando corté la pizza, estaba fría como una piedra pero la comí. No podía esperar otros 20 minutos por la comida ya que tenía hambre. Al final, recibimos la atención de los camareros, él vino a la mesa y le dije que teníamos un cupón. Tomó mi teléfono y estaba leyendo los términos y condiciones que el comprobante claramente declara válidos todo el día de lunes a miércoles. Escribió que el código se fue y luego regresó para decir que era un código diferente cuando solo había un código. Hubiera sido mejor si él dijera que escribí el código incorrecto o me perdí un número / letra. Acepto que es una cadena de restaurantes, pero si usted está pagando por una comida de cocinero, debe servirse caliente, no fría, o podría haber comprado un sándwich en el supermercado. Definitivamente no volveré a este Zizzi a toda prisa. Perfectly situated for a meal prior to nia show. Booked in advance as gets busy. All of our party had 3 course meals and all were high quality and came out quickly. Well worth the money and a good way to start the evening. Meerkat meals was an added bonus. Would definitely visit again.

Me and my friends went for some food and drinks. Floor service could be better however head chef was amazing. Sent our food quickly in perfection. He keeps on smiling from the kitchen and made sure we were enjoying. We asked for some ice because rosé was warm however no one responded to this, we waited 15 minutes and the head chef got us some ice from the kitchen in 10 seconds. Mad respect for him!

Food and server were amazing. Prompt food and attentive staff meant for an excellent meal. Upon visiting the toilet, the facilities were a big let down, upon using the accessible toilet, it was evident that it wasn't accessible at all, with a baby changing table restricting access. As a wheelchair user I am thankful I was having a good day where I didn't need my chair...otherwise would've been embarrassed and unable to use the toilet alone

Nine of us ate here and i was thinking that the service was not going to be that good. However all of the meals arrived together and we were served by three people. The food was delicious and the red merlot wine accompanied it very well.

We were just here for a couple of days on business and happened upon Zizzi's while out and about, it's an extremely welcoming and cosy restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. We didn't have a booking but they fit us seated quickly. We were instantly at ease. The orders and food came really quickly but not rushed, the food was just the best Italian we've ever had, all freshly made and tasted amazing, a look round other diners showed us we weren't the only ones who thought so. We would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone and really hope we can come again

We had a table for 2 booked for 7.30pm on Saturday. When we arrived the restaurant was already full. We were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait for our table and were offered a menu while we waited. It was about 10 mins and we were then seated. Our waiter was very friendly and we had a little wait for our food (about 30mins but it was extremely busy) Food was very good but don't bother with the Sassy cider - it was awful and couldn't drink it!

In summary, unpleasant environment, poor food and poor service. The place is very noisy and the air conditioning/heating is not properly controlled. The pizzas were very dry and crispy around the edges, the pasta dish I had was lacking flavour and the piece of salmon was a thin strip about an inch wide. Black pepper wasn't offered. One of the group ordered a dish with a side salad but the salad never arrived. Water wasn't topped up and service was very slow and spasmodic. On top of that they added 10% on the bill for service. No thanks.

I had the lamb shank (£25) which was swimming in a disappointing gravy, and served on top of a gloopy mash potato which i could not stomach. I had the no alcohol mojito (6.85) which was basically a crushed strawberry in lemonade. It looked awful and didnt taste great either. The tiramasu was mediocre I left the place feeling ripped off. However, the serving staff were really great!
