Zia Vitalia in Mole Valley

Our amazing local Italian. Many great dishes, but above else, the pizza is amazing (esp. pepperoni)! Great atmosphere and service - highly recommended!

I have never eaten there before. I pased it often but was never tempted in. I was taken there by friends and went with an opened mind. The place wasn't as inviting as it is made out to be and there weren't many people in, perhaps it was the week day. When it came to order drinks, we asked for beers they only had one type. So we had to make do. Then they didn't have some starters we settled for a set menu. My choice of starter was passable and then my main, fish and vegs. The carrots were directly from a tin and the beans had seen better days, whilst the potatoes cooked from a frozen batch bought in bulk. The dessert was ok but not fresh. We had a complimentary shot at the end, that had been diluted. And when the bill came, gratuity was added automatically, and not complimentary! The service from the staff was so so and sporadic. Will I go there again? Not so sure. Disfruta.

We went with a party of ten for a birthday celebration. We could only manage starters and main courses, all of which were delicious, including pastas, pizzas and specials. Some people had to take home doggie bags. Friendly service and great value, a lovely evening altogether.

Surprise find on the doorstep having lived nearby or 14yrs. Usually frequent Prezzo and Zizi etc, decided to stay local and had a knockout meal here. Seems family run and both food and service and pricing were excellent. Give it a try, deserves a visit. Small but welcoming. Mike

Our local Italian. What can I say? It's superb. Family friendly (obviously they are Italian), great pizzas and the best Calzone I can find anywhere relevant outside of actual Italy.

Popped in for dinner on Friday night. My husband had lovely plump mussels and then a HUGE Calzone, both of which he really enjoyed. My daughter had prawns and a truly delicious pizza (I sneaked a piece, yum). I had Crayfish and then lamb leg. It was all super and at a lovely relaxed pace.

Staff were friendly; service was good; food was very good. Relaxed. What more could you ask for? We hadn’t been since before lockdown but we’ll certainly be back again

Not been here for a few years, it was always good. We returned recently and booked a large table for a group of friends. The welcome was friendly and we were well looked after all evening. Food was excellent despite catering for a big table and lots of favorable comments from our friends. Prices were reasonable too. We will be returning.

Absolutely top notch from the easy booking, the food is excellent and the service is fun, fast and friendly. We had a party of 20 and it didn't faze them at all. Very much worth a visit A1

Great friendly family restaurant for Erving meal be it pizzas or more. The wine is also good. It’s a place to take your time with family and friends. Service is unhurried and welcoming .

A lovely small family run Italian restaurant with a good atmosphere. Very friendly staff with a good sense of humour. We went there to celebrate my daughter's birthday and we would love to go back again in the future. I recommend anyone to go there.

We love this gem of an Italian. Fabulous food & service..Great pizzas and pastas but also lots of meat & fish and varied specials. Generous portions & good value. Don’t hesitate to recommend.

OK, but could be better. A little underseasoned, a little more care and better ingredients would help. The place looked a bit tired too, and it needs sprucing up. Good service, though.

Consistently great food and lovely atmosphere. George and his brother couldn't be more welcoming. Lots of choice of good traditional Italian dishes and Pizza's. It's not the most sophisticated restaurant but you will have a lovely meal and be made to feel very welcome.

Pleasant but could've been better. Bruschetta was too heavy on the garlic, arancini rather bland, pizza was really overpowered by jalapeño (and we like it hot) fish was pleasant but the sauce was not quite right. Hot water tap was broken in the ladies. Service was good and prices reasonable. Has the potential to be very good with better ingredients. We'll try again in a few months to see.

A recommendation & could not have been happier, what a delightful place! Super food with more than generous portions....We had to bring some home. Sublime authentic flavours...A lovely evening with friendly & professional hosts. We have already booked to return.

Friendly staff excellent chef.reasonable prices I have to thank all the staff for their welcome, good food, good wine and other drinks provided for my self and thirteen guests. I arrived at 1945hrs and we didn’t leave until 2330hrs with no pressure to leave. This occasion was to celebrate my 85 birthday earlier in the week. I can recommend it.

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere but the food we had was dreadful. When an Italian restaurant uses tinned tomatoes in a dish that states it has cherry tomatoes as a main ingredient and puts sludgy gravy on a meat main course you know they are lazy or can't cook. The price level would be fine if the food was really good. When I complained about my meal they did not charge for it but seemed genuinely confused by my comments. We went some time ago but the Trip Advisor rating for this place is so misleading I felt it was necessary to provide our experience.

This is not so much a review of the food - which was acceptable - but needs to be said in the hope the staff will read it. Went here with friends for a catch up - were seated near a strange looking woman on her own nursing 2 glasses of wine. As friends already seated didn’t ask to move but felt uneasy sat near her, especially when she was lying slumped asleep against the wall. Our food was ok, nothing spectacular, and not cheap. As we started desserts, she woke up & started shouting at us, we tried to ignore her but as I was sat nearest she then started to pull at my coat. I tried to humour her but it was apparent she was completely drunk - we tried to get the waiter over who had previously been very attentive & jovial but he now ignored us - and her - until finally we got the bill which was more than we expected. By now this woman was threatening me “I’m going to get you when you leave” & I looked at the waiter expecting him to at least tell her to shut up but preferably chuck her out. We paid & as I went to get up she again made a grab for my coat, fortunately she was too drunk & missed it. I’ve been to Zia Vitalia several times & enjoyed it, but the total lack of concern shown by the staff that night was awful. Yes they were busy but they saw exactly what was going on but didn’t do anything about it - I get the feeling she’s a regular & accepted as a bit of a pain but they are used to her & not bothered if she upsets other customers. I didn’t want to make a scene with my friends as they wanted to get out quickly but in retrospect I should have - this old woman ruined our evening & for nearly £100 between 4 that’s not encouraging us to return.

Delicious meal yesterday with my friend. The service always friendly and attentive. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

George and the team never fail to please. The food is simply great, menu covers all the bases but they're happy to go off piste. Service is always friendly, great welcome.

We came here for dinner, friendly staff but unfortunately the food was terrible. I had veal with lemon sauce, very bland, not a hint of lemon, over-cooked mushy vegetables. My partner had veal with spaghetti on the side, bland and overcooked tasteless spaghetti. It wasn't exactly cheap either, feel ripped off, don't waste your money.

As well as excellent food, the staff were efficient and extremely good natured. I look forward to going again soon.

Hadn't been for a long while due to Covid and other circumstances but very glad we chose this restaurant again. Staff were very welcoming and throughout the meal were attentive without being intrusive. The meals were excellent, piping hot and very tasty. We will certainly add this back to one of regulars.

We booked a Friday night out with friends being 14th Feb we were present with a set menu at £40 p/p The food service was rushed with the food not to the standard expected at an Italian restaurant.

Excellent staff, lovely home cooked style Italian food and perfect setting, where you can talk and be heard. Looking forward to visiting again and trying something else on the menu. Too many nice choices for 1 visit.

The food was excellent and the ambiance was helped along by the friendly and jovial staff. All the courses were super and adding in the Prosecco starter and the palette cleaning Sorbet was a lovely touch.

We went for a belated anniversary meal and the food was as delicious as always. Staff are always friendly.

Very disappointed ! New owner since we were last there. Ordered Campari & Soda and received Campari & tonic, then ordered Sea Bass which arrived swimming in oil, veal escalopes boring and no taste and daughter ordered spaghetti carbonara which was far too salty to eat. Big shame as we have been coming here for years.

Hadn't been for a while and went to celebrate a family event. Just the same as always. Very friendly staff and the as usual good quality food. Very good value for money. Great to have such a good restaurant locally.

I was a member of a group of six that had booked for the Musical Evening at the restaurant. The menu selection for the inclusive price consisted of a choice between four dishes in each 'starter', 'main' and 'dessert' category, which was quite acceptable, although only one Italian choice in the 'main' group. The music was provided by a 'tribute crooner', who sang a good selection of 'fifties' and 'sixties' numbers. The main problem arose when the music started as our table was positioned beside the sound system stage and the large speakers only feet away from two of our number. The volume of the music at this range was uncomfortable to the point of being painful. Despite repeated requests, NONE of the staff took action to either lower the volume or reposition the speakers. As a result, all conversation during the performance was impossible and enjoyment of the meal itself made difficult. This was a shame, as the food was good, not great, and the singer was talented with some nice songs. A disappointing experience which we will not repeat.

Nice but portions are too small needed to eat again after and expensive.

Our second visit here. Last time we were very happy with everything. I think it has changed hands.I ordered the pasta dish Penne Amatriciana . It was very hot and spicy and I couldn't eat a great deal of it. When we asked the waiter if I had maybe been given the wrong meal he asked the chef, who said yes he had given me the Arrabiata instead which is very spicy! No real apology though or any offer to deduct the cost from the bill. Not the way to entice customers to return. We won't!

Has Zia changed hands? Previously we’ve had good local Italian but last week’s experience was very disappointing. Service was slow, my mixed meat salad had squares of ‘luncheon’ meat and cheap supermarket salami. The mozzarella was missing and when I asked for it the waiter checked the menu before bring two slices on a saucer.

I know lots of places have around 4-5 stars, but you go to them and it's just average food. This is not one of them! The food was virtually flawless - apart from one dish having a tad too much salt (fine with water), and another having a tad too little. Like most sit down Italian's, it did take around 15-20 mins for the starter to arrive, and 10-15 more after we finished that for the mains to, but that was expected. The house red was the best house red I've ever had in a restaurant (normally, they would give you a sub-par wine, reserved only for non wine drinkers), with it totally blending with everything it was paired with, and cheap too. The food was quite pricey, but I would still pay for it again. Decor was as expected for an upper middle class restaurant in a little town in Britain. (Not great, but didn't matter)

Previous visits have been let down by service so slow that I gave up the will to live let alone eat. Also some recent reviews have been less than glowing for sure. My friend and I needed an early dinner on the 22nd March and decided to give Zia Vitalia a go. Put it this way Ashtead isn't awash with great restaurants! We were served promptly and my skate was absolutely delicious. Not everyones choice of fish I know. My friends sea bass had the thumbs up too. My only reservation, the portion of nicely cooked vegetables was too small. Zia Vitalia please keep the good service and food up, Ashtead so desperately needs a decent restaurant.

Have previously come here a number of times for Sunday lunch and although this place isn’t fancy and lacks ambience we quite enjoyed the food and thought it offered fairly good value for money.

Visited this restaurant last night, a group of five ladies. We meet up once a month at different restaurants. I don’t find the need to post negative comments but for once I was so disappointed I felt I had to. Three of us ordered the fish mix from the specials board at £18. We couldn’t believe when it arrived, it was more like a starter. A tiny square of cod and halibut, a prawn, four mussels and a strip of calamari, it would have fitted on a saucer. There was a bit of salad on the side that had started to go brown. I’m not one to complain but one of the other ladies was incensed on our behalf she called the waiter over. He was questioning why she was complaining when it wasn’t her meal, also he said others hadn’t complained. He did agree to bring one more tiny portion out for us to share! Then some of the accompanying vegetables came out after I’d eaten my meal, which didn’t take long. Left feeling very hungry. We could have ordered deserts to fill us up but we just wanted to leave. Needless to say we won’t be going there again.

I have been here on a few occasions mainly for family celebration meals. The food is ok but not much more than that. I feel it lacks somewhat in flavour and taste, however what they do serve is ok. Saying that other family members really like it and hats why we go back there.

After hearing positive reviews from friends decided to try here ourselves. Lovely food, generous portions and friendly service. Would recommend booking a table as by half 7 the restaurant was completely full.

Made a last minute booking as wife decided she would like to go to an Italian. This was our first time. Just as well we booked because even though mid week was very nearly full soon after we arrived and we soon found out why.

A fantastic, family run Italian restaurant. We found ourselves in Ashtead with a couple of hours spare early evening and thought we'd give Zia Vitalia a try. I'm so glad we did. The food was fabulous. As well as the standard menu there was plenty to choose from the specials board with the option of different sauces or styles of cooking. The food arrived quickly, the service was attentive and friendly and prices reasonable. Sadly not local to us but we will definitely return when in the area. Highly recommended.

Since moving to Ashtead eating at Costa’s restaurant is our favourite place to eat. The food is fantastic and wine and service is good too. We take plenty of family and friends there, as guests, and always are told how good the Costa’s food is there. Absolutely recommend Zia Vitalia.

The food is very nice, however they could improve the ambience. The lights are just too bright, it makes you feel like you’re in a cafe paying restaurant prices. Then the food arrives and it makes up for it. Haven’t had a bad meal, just sometimes the little things that make you return are forgotten.

Always a good meal and pleasent surroundings, great wine and coffee.

Having walked past here many times We went here with a couple of friends. All of us had a great time. Food was lovely especially the Pasta dishes. Desserts were fantastic Highly recommend

Fabulous food and service for wedding reception. Wonderful menu suggestions with delighted diners. Costa and his team made it a wonderful day. Highly recommend.

We had an excellent lunch, starting with tomato bruschetta. Only one of us wanted a starter, but they brought enough for two - and didn't charge extra. A very nice gesture. We both chose pasta; my partner declared the lasagne the best he has had, and I enjoyed my tortellini with butter and sage. I followed up with a panna cotta - just the right degree of wobbliness and scrumptious. A real asset to Ashtead village.

We came here on a warm summer's evening, and the windows onto the street were open giving a very continental feeling. The food we had was excellent as was the service. A really enjoyable evening on rather the spur of the moment.

We like this small, unpretentious, traditional family-run Italian restaurant. There's usually a lively atmosphere and the quality of the food is consistently good. I give Costa full marks particularly because he cooks vegetables just as I like them! Occasionally they can be rather busy at weekends. His charming wife Serena is often on duty as waitress, always smiling cheerfully although she must be feeling tired when they have a lot of bookings. We're glad to see how popular they are because that must mean our village won't lose this lovely little eatery any time soon.

A nice neighbourhood restaurant with an astonishingly good value set lunch menu (except for vegetarians,, hence only four stars, had to go a la carte). Honest food with good portions, no complaining when we suggested the wine (by the glass) was a bit past its best, nice service. Will definitely go there again (hopefully with a veggie alternative on the set menu)

This family run restaurant has been in Ashtead for many years but has changed hands twice during the time we've been going. Very little else has changed and it's always a welcoming place to eat with proprietor Costa doing the cooking and his delightful wife Serena often helping the other waiters to serve the food. The menu offers all the usual tasty Italian dishes that you'd expect as well as daily fish and meat specials. If you're lucky you can park on the street outside but 2 other car parks are very near. We're lucky to have Zia Vitalia in Ashtead village.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and great service. They even stayed open 15 min after their closing time so that we could finish our lunch. We would definitely come back 😊
