Zest in Wigan

Zest is located in a former Little Chef building on the East Lancs road so is really easy to find. It’s not a very cosy place and can feel a bit like a goldfish bowl however it’s still a great place to eat and can cater for both big groups and couples at the same time. The food isn’t going to win awards but is still good, the lamb is excellent. Portions are generous, but excess can be taken home. The staff are great, they look after you very well but don’t mither you. It’s also very good value, I’ve never felt ripped off. It’s not suitable for a “special” meal but is certainly an excellent go-to place.

Excellent chicken tikka pathia with a superb naan. The service and welcome was good and we made use of the early menu which was very cost effective. Declan who served us was brilliant

I ordered on the phone and collected within 30 minutes - service was great, staff were polite and food was ready on my arrival. The Jhalfrezi was hot and tasty, the Onion Bhajis were particularly nice and not two small or overcooked as I have had from other places in the past. I can happily say that all food ordered was delicious - not as keen on the dip tray, but nothing wrong with, perfectly tasty and very edible, just not quite how I like my dips (a little too thin for me). Perhaps I'm just fussy about what I put on my papadum? Overall no complaints with the quality of the food or the standard of service - I will gladly add Zest to my list of approved local eateries and revisit them in the future. Give them a try - especially the Onion Bhajis!

Not been to Zest since pre-Covid lockdown, not because of anything negative, there is a lot of choice where I live. We decided to call in last night (04/11/23) and why the heck haven't I been back in so long!!! The waiters were excellent, the restaurant was clean and well spaced out and the food.... Oh my god, the food was amazing, personally I can vouch that it was the very best Rogan Josh I have had by a mile, the rest of the party of 8 had a combination of the the following: Chicken Shashlik Chicken Biriyani Mixed Grill Chicken Tika Masala Chicken Balti Jalfrezi Mild Curry Sauce (with mixed grill) And of course Naan Bread and other sides Not one single complaint from our party, outstanding meal and so glad we went And to finish off, the bill arrived and I was pleasantly surprised, the bill was split between 2 of us for a party of 8 and it worked out less than £100 each, and that included a £10 tip......you just cant beat that value anywhere where I have eaten out recently, especially for the quality of the food and the excellent service you are getting. Will definitely be back

A lot of things on our visit let us down; we went for an 18th birthday and a few things went wrong. We felt rushed by the waiters to order our drinks and food when we asked for more time. When eating our poppadoms, they came over asking to take our food orders - you shouldn't be taking orders midway through eating. The food was quite bland, nothing special. I'd recommend Rema tandoori in Tyldesley or the indians in Atherton for a better meal.

Good food, nice staff. We forgot to book on a Thursday night, no problem walked straight through. Everyone enjoyed the food. Cobra good on draught. Been here many times and always had a good meal.

We were a party of 20 people, some were children. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The food was very good, the service was great and I'm so pleased I introduced my family and friends to this excellent restaurant.

5pm dinner for two midweek. Slow and poor service, hardly any conversation from staff. Asked for our order when we were eating a poppadum and dips! The food for starters and main meal were fairly nice, but we were given chicken instead of the chicken tikka we ordered. Overall not very impressive considering there were only a few customers in. Haven't been here for years, unlikely to go back here for more years because others do it better

Very disappointing meal tonight at Zest. Gone downhill from when we last visited. Booked a table for 8pm and got seated at 8.30pm. We know this can happen during busy periods so want too fussed about it. Poppodums served promptly. Starters arrived, meat samosa sent back as it was frozen in the middle. Was brought a veg samosa 20mins after everyone else had finished. Got main meals at 10pm. Food cold. Lamb chops terrible. Rice clumpy. Naan bread like leather. Paid the bill and got changed an extra £20 for desserts we didn’t have. When I realised and told the member of staff he walked off with my debit card to another man who got quite annoyed with us for asking for a refund for the extra that we had paid. Very rare I send food back or complain about it but felt the need to tonight. Also rare I don’t leave a generous tip but tonight I left without leaving one. We will not be visiting Zest again.

Ordered a takeaway over the Christmas period. The bhuna was below average, low spice and the vegetables used was not what I would expect in a bhuna. Expensive for two curries - no sides. Prices are incorrect on the website. Sorry won't be returning

Last time in this place for me. Website has not been updated for years so the prices are way out. Food very average, had the bhuna and I could make better than that. No draught drinks, warm bottles only. Complete rip off for children’s food, £6.50 for a small portion of chicken nuggets and fries, no drink, no ice cream. Bye bye Zest, never again.

Just an average Indian restaurant. The food is ok nothing outstanding, presentation could be better, quite slow service waited a long time between starters and mains was asked twice if we were ready for our mains.

Our first visit today and won’t be our last! Incredibly friendly staff, one of the waiters made such a fuss of my youngest she felt like a princess!! Food was outstanding, really really good with big portions. We’re already looking forward to our next visit! Highly recommended.

This was my first visit here and WOW the food was delicious very tasty and full off flavour. Myself and my partner both have vegetarian options, I had a balti dish and my partner Rohan Josh. I will definitely be returning. The waiters were lovely and very polite.

Had take away was amazing as always price was very good service was good love the lamb chops have them all the time

Call with my wife at the last minute but was welcomed warmly and shown to a table. The poppadoms were very fresh and the mushroom pakora were out of this world. The main courses were fantastic and overall a very good experience. Thank you very much

Used tonight for takeaway, rubbish. Staff don’t have a clue what they are doing. Ordered a sirloin steak , chips, veg and gravy for first takeaway as per menu. Check Ed what I had received, no chips and no gravy. When questioned got some chips handed to me and was told they never do gravy with a takeaway. Liars , I have had the same meal many times and always had gravy, why is it on the menu then. WILL NEVER USE AGAIN, LIARS

We dined tonight and what a disaster. My husbands starter of piri piri ribs were full of fat and very unpleasant. His main course of King prawn Korkali was slimy and inedible. it made him feel ill and we had to leave the restaurant. Obviously under cooked prawns which can be dangerous . We will not dine here again as we cannot risk our health !

Have eaten here several times. The staff are always very friendly and attentive. The food has always been amazing. Never had a bad experience. Ordered food during lockdown and the food and service is just as good. Thank you.

As an areas favourite Indian restaurant, you need to spice it up a little and incorporate some vegan options. With the growing trend of Veganism, it is a shame you do not really have any serious vegan options for consideration. Include vegan to give yourself a competitive edge! I’m talking oat milk, ‘chick’n’ (fake chicken) etc.

I called twice to order a covid friendly takeaway. 1st call as if not a business at all . 2nd full of very unreasonable excuses . My advice is unless at the door don't call for orders . God only knows if the food is as good as customer care

We have been using this restaurant about once a month since first lockdown. The Gorkali was a new dish to us but we tried and loved it the first time. Since then we've been alternating it with better known (to us) dishes. Unfortunately each time it has become more firey until it has come to the point, tonight, where it's no longer going to be an option.Sevice and quantities always excellent

Tried Zest for a Xmas Eve take out. Got home, untied the bag, and part of the order missing. No point going back, so carried on. Prawn dish smelt like Hull Docks, and all three chicken dishes were dry and bland. Will not be going again.

We use Zest a fair bit. We went a month or so ago and it was soooooo good that I declared it to be the “best curry I’ve ever had” - which is quite an accolade. So I was gagging to go back for a return visit.This time we got in before 6 and usually we get offered the option of the deal - I can’t remember the exact name - but this time, even though the usual leaflets were on a shelf on the side as we went in, we weren’t offered the option. Confused Part 1.The poppadoms and pickle tray were ace, as usual. We ordered chips and seriously I can’t believe they served so few (in a small ceramic bowl) so when the guy came over and asked if everything was ok I said I thought there weren’t enough chips. He muttered something behind his mask and promptly came back with another bowl of the same size which I thought was nice of them. Until the bill came and we were charged for both lots. So literally £4.40 or whatever of chips were wolfed down in no time and didn’t touch the sides. I’m confused (again) as I really don’t recall the portion sizes ever being so small on the full price menu. A total joke.I also had misgivings about the curry for the first time ever as there were a couple of things in there that were mysterious. I won’t expand....We’ve been going for years and this is the strangest visit, for sure. Everything tasted good though.

Went into this restaurant last week, been here many times. Manager was rude as if it was an effort to serve us. Asked for water with ice and a separate glass of ice he said he would see what he could do. He then brought a glass with one ice cube. Starters were rubbish, the chicken pakora was so oily you could have squeezed the oil out of it. The ribs were inedible and I have no idea where they got them from but they were disgusting. The main courses were ok but basic. As I have been here many times with family but this visit was disgusting the staff were ignorant at the very least.would avoid this restaurant as it has gone very much down hill

Rarely write reviews, however I just HAD to “be bothered” to write one for Zest. We normally go to a local curry house up the road from Zest... “better the devil you know” attitude. However, after it was suggested we try something different, we tried Zest. BEST decision we could have made! We both had the chefs choice curries: “mangsho mazzedar” and the “massaladar lamb chops with keema.” We accompanied the curries with “Chana bhaji” side dish, “badami rice” and “spicy chips.”Oh EM GEE! The Mangsho Mazzadar curry is a melt in the mouth beef curry!... let’s be fair, you never see “beef” on the menu in an Indian so this was different and tasted incredible! The “Massaladar lamb chops with keema” curry was out of this world!!! It was a very generous portion of curried lamb chops, served on a bed of mince meat. The lamb chops were fall off the bone soooo tender and the mince meat had an incredible distinct flavour of a spicy/sweet/mint sauce. Very different and to die for!! I use the words “very different”, because I love my curry and have tried so many types of curry cuisine all over the U.K. - the majority of the curries they serve in restaurants taste very similar just with a slightly different heat.... well, Not with zest! The 2 curry mains we had were both completely different. Absolutely amazing! The badami rice had cashews and pistachios in it and was cooked to perfection... my new favourite type of rice!To summarise: I’m sorry to say this for the rest of the curry restaurants in worsley, but!...Zest is the NUMBER 1 now for me. Staff were super professional and polite couldn’t fault them. All in all, a fantastic evening and I cannot wait to go back and dine in, or the next opportunity for a curry takeaway. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Thank you so much Zest! PLEASE PLEASE do not let your services or standards of food drop, you will have a customer forever here and no doubt, other customers who you serve so well!

Although i have visited this restaurant a number of times this is the first time I have used the takeaway service. I have to admit even though I had ordered and given a collection time when I turned up and had to queue to get it , 20 minutes in the car park before I got to the front of the queue , paid and asked to take a seat , the food took another 20 minutes to be brought out making a nonsense of the collection time. On the plus side however the food was excellent (as good if not better than the restaurant ) the staff , even though extremely busy were very pleasant and took all precautions during this difficult time. I would recommend this place highly but beware of the added waiting time.

Helpful and friendly staff, and a great selection of food and drinks. Food was delicious and portion sizes generous. Couldn’t finish entire meal (ordered a lot) so was able to take the rest away with us. Will definitely be returning.

Called Saturday early evening, greeted well, table soon found, waiters very polite and helpful. Ordered poppadoms etc and starters, all very good. But I made the mistake of ordering the Chicken Tikka Madras, it was disgusting, the consistency was of a watery flavoured gravy which could be just poured off the spoon. The taste was similar to those I used to make 30 years ago when I was learning how to make the dish. Can I recommend the management try a madras curry sauce from the Imperial in Tyldesley for an idea as to what the consistency and taste should be. Given this place a few chances now, but that was the last.

The Restaurant is very clean and brilliant place to go out with families / friends. The decorations is very modern and it brings out the colour of indian culture. The staff were polite and helpful. The food was so tasty, i ordered Pakoras, bhaiji, Tandoori chicken and I have to say it was worth travelling 190 miles

Held my grandson 21 st here we have been coming for years so knew Fatiq and his lovely staff wouldn’t let us down the food was fantastic as always the service couldn’t have been better I really want to thank them all for making a special occasion unforgettable

visited here once,it was nice enough staff was nice prompt polite ,food was nice, hot, fresh on time,surroundings was very nice, modern, clean.price was mid range,toilets lovely and clean the wait time to be served was good wait time from ordering to food arriving was good..over all if you like this kind of food then an all round good place to visit

9 of us went to Zest without booking a table, We were greeted with enthusiasm, warmth and friendliness. We told them it was my mum's 98th birthday. Well what can l say, they made a big fuss of mum, and she loved all the attention. Zest is our favourite restaurant, because the food is always excellent. Everyone ordered different dishes, and all were pleased with their food, always hot and tasty. the portions are generous, and lots of food came home with us, too good to leave. The staff are so warm and friendly, they are almost like family, they are always happy and smiling, The ambiance is relaxing, comfortable and clean. They brought out cake with candle for mum and we all sang happy birthday, including our servers. We were given a drink, and mum was given a bottle of wine. She loved all the fuss. Everyone really enjoyed themselves so much, we didn't want to leave. The staff were fantastic, and nothing was too much trouble, they just wanted to please. The prices are great too. So a BIG THANK YOU ZEST, for making our day perfect, You really are THE BEST.

Went again last night. Previously, I have always been impressed but last night's Balti was a let down. We specifically asked for plain not fried rice but the dish was oily and lacked the subtlety and fragrance of a proper byriani

Thawa Gosht, what an absolutely delicious meal, the flavour mmmmmm.

As always great food and staff that care. Give it a go, I honestly love this place. I’ve been to the local places like amans and the purple lounge and the food here and the staff are just in a different league. I’ve never been disappointed and I’m a fussy middle age bloke, jokes aside, this place always hits the spot.

Staff really nice but food was just average, first visit having had great expectations of fantastic food and feel disappointed with the experience ! We booked a table for 15 and to be honest none of us were really impressed with the servings we had ordered.

Small but very good Indian restaurant located on the outskirts of Manchester. Must be best service ever! Waiters very quick to serve you, and all done with a smile. Food clean tasting and generous portions. Definitely worth booking this place, especially for families.

This was our first visit on recommendation from friends. As someone who has enjoyed Asian food all over the world, I'm not usually that impressed but Zest is quite simply something special. My partner and rang to book a table for Saturday evening, but the only slot they had available was 5.45pm. Always a good sign!

I've had curries everywhere over the years, but Zest always stuck in my mind as being especially good.

Just perfect in every way, pleasant staff sat and waited for the dish on my way home along the Lancs. A hidden gem of Greater Manchester well worth coming back for more the Thawa Gosth was perfect.

My wife and I visited the restaurant on Wednesday evening and the service was brilliant, followed by first class food. We will definitely go there again

My two sons called round at last minute and said they wanted take me out for tea. They decided we would go to Zest. Staff was great and food was excellent, I can’t wait for our next visit.

Zest is a very good Indian Restaurant, didn't book but service very prompt. It was a very busy Friday evening, pleasant attentive staff, my fish curry was delicious, very ample portions, my wife even took a doggie bag home! Highly recommended!

Have been visiting Zest since it opened and having never left a review thought it was time. The delicious food is always spot on as is the service from the helpful staff who can't do enough for you. This visit I had the tandoori mixed grill that was cooked to perfection, though having tried most of the menu over the years, all the dishes are great. Highly recommended.

Me the wife and our daughter attended this Saturday evening, we made a telephone booking before hand and didn’t have any trouble getting a table, we arrived 5 minutes early and were seated promptly.

Great dinner at an excellent price!! Food was hot, not oily, full of flavors and was fresh, including the salad. Friendly welcoming helpful staff. Very clean! Definitely will be returning.

I visited here recently had never eaten in before but took the plunge. Great staff, good menu with a great selection. Food was excellent. There is a free car park, the restaurant can only accessed from the east bound carriage way of the east lancs rd.

Simply decorated throughout yet effective to soothe the mood. A five minute wait to be seated and settled. Toilets inspected first and foremost ... very clean so it has my vote. I'm odd like that.

Nice well presented restaurant with a menu that has all the old favourites but some very different choices too. I had Thawa Gosht which is a full delicious rib eye steak in a lovely curry sauce full of chunky peppers and onions mmmmm.

Very very poor, not the first time this order has been wrong, always incorrect order and as they do not deliver and if wrong it cannot be rectified.

I either visit the restaurant or order a takeaway from here every week as the food is fantastic.

I was so impressed with the food and service at Zest last evening that I felt that I had to write a review. First of all the table setting. Nice crisp linen cloth and napkins. We ordered poppadums and accompniements which were varied and delicious - not just the ubiquitous mango chutney and raita.

Went here for my husband's birthday with family booked a table for six in advance. Ordered poppadoms and a drink first, no sooner had we took a first bite of it we were asked what starter we wanted, the whole evening felt rushed. Staff were sweeping up behind us it was only 8.30 pm not closing time. Will not be returning.

Have been here many times and enjoyed it however this evening! Water was actually swimming in my plate! Everything was watered down, madras sauce, mango chutney and mint sauce all watered down! Also the chips only just cooked and the nan bread too doughy! Not sure what happened but won’t be visiting again as not cheap!

After reading many positive reviews we chose Zest as a venue to celebrate our Mums birthday. We were looking for a spacious open and modern restaurant to accomadate us and my mum in her wheelchair. It turned out to be perfect for a wheelchair user, all on one level and a good ramp outside.

been here many times always had good food and great service, some reviews say it's loud but this only adds to the atmosphere , Never had a bad meal ever, some of the reviewers have left a negative view I can only say they are hard to please or they don't know good food , I always recommend Zest to everyone one we travel about 6 miles to get there and friend come even further it's that good!!!

We visit Zest every week which says a lot. The staff are lovely, the food is excellent and we`ve never had a bad meal or bad service. We usually go on Wednesdays but even when we`ve gone on busier days we`ve never had a long wait for a table.

Visited Zest on Friday 23rd Feb. Had high hopes because I'd heard good things and I know a few people that go regularly.

I have eaten in more than my fair share of indian restaurants over the years but Zest always stands out at being consistenly good. We are always greeted professionally and courteously, the food is never short of awesome with a depth of flavour that I cannot find elsewhere. So, we decided to book for New Years Eve 2017 (the 9.00pm sitting)....what a fabulous night! Fotik and his staff had their work cut out for them as the place was a sell-out...rammed to capacity but they did it. Our meals arrived piping HOT from the kitchen (not lukewarm - a pet hate of mine), the food was as good as ever, they were 'on the ball' with the drinks, the compere/singer created a great party atmosphere (and even ridiculed me for wearing a MAD Christmas suit - the less said about that, the better!) and we even had a firework display at the stroke of midnight. Perfect! The first visit of 2018 and I'm sure they'll be many more!

Yes...simply amazing. Have eaten here and at Amans on Christmas day several times before and this year's meal at Zest was quite simply not only the best Christmas day meal we have had at either one but one of the best Indian meals ever. Yes...a big statement...but true. Despite being packed to the rafters and crazy busy we were shown immediately to our table and the service throughout the entire meal was without fault. We were not rushed and left to enjoy some of the nicest Indian food ever eaten (and I've eaten a LOT of Indian food) Every single dish from every single course was delicious and cooked to perfection. The chicken shashlik was tender, the vindaloo spicy & hot but really tasty but the Palak Murgh Makhani was the absolute star of the show. This is now our go to dish when eating here. In fact we were so unrushed we were the very last diners to leave the restaurant. There was a slight mix up with some random drinks on the bill but was immediately resolved. Thank you zest for making the biggest meal of the year so special.

I cannot praise the staff at Zest highly enough. We were not an easy table to accommodate as none of us particularly liked spicy food. The waiter took time to explain the dishes and was helpful with his recommendations. When the food arrived we all felt it was the best Indian we had every eaten and cannot wait to return.

Been coming to Zest for years and it still produces the best Indian food we have ever had. Everything about it is consistent, the food, service, ambience. One definitely not to he missed. It was also rated highly by our recent guests from India.

We have been coming to zest for a number of years from big family occasions to dinners with guests. the resteaunt it's self is always clean and welcoming with smartly dressed staff who are always very friendly and attentive with our expirance at the top of their priorities. Well lit atmosphere, food is always delicious and fantastic value for money compared to over priced competetors in the area. If your eyes are bigger than your belly the waiters are always happy to bag up the rest for us to take home. Only thing that let's zest down is the takeaway service food isn't as good quality from past experience but to go in and sit down for traditional Indian cuisine it is next to none

Used to be amazing and we have been ordering from here or going to the restaurant for years. Just ordered a takeaway which should have cost £28 but instead was £38 due to their price increase on the new menus (maybe update them online too). If you are going to charge £3.00 more for a tandoori mixed grill - you should maybe try to improve it instead of serving this up ��. Went straight in the bin. Avoid - far superior Indian restaurants nearby

Went with my husband and our friends, one of whom is in a scooter. The staff were not phased at all and were lovely. Everything we had to eat was gorgeous and I especially loved my tandoori lamb chops. It was a nice surprise to see that desserts were not the usually pre made frozen atrocities. Our puds were great. Thank you Zest.....we will be back

We have visited this restaurant several times and always received excellent service .The atmosphere is good,and the food is top class.Well worth a visit.

This is fast becoming my favorite place to visit after my usual local has taken a turn for the worse.

Visited many times with my Husband family and friends. Tonight was a take away . Never disappointed fabulous food . Chicken Samber excellent with plenty of heat , lamb and spinach Devine. Sure we will visit sooner than later thank you 😊

We are from the local area so this is a place that we like to head out to when we fancy an indian. There are a few good indians in the area which means that we are spoilt for choice! we have found that over the years Zest is consistently very good. The food is usually to a high standard and the portion sizes are very good value for money. Chicken and Lamb are particular favourites. The starters are always brilliant so no complaints here.

Me and my wife visited last night for a meal we could not fault, the food and portion sizes were excellent , we only had one starter and a main each with shared rice and naan.

Come here for first time after looking at the reviews, food was top class, lovely fresh and tasting curry. Highly recommend!!!

My wife and I have been going out for Curries for more than 40 years, and have experienced the good, bad, and extra poor curries around the world.

Below par food, poor service and often rushed. There will be regulars going however I recommend trying Amaans which is up the road. Also just discovered that Zest has a food hygiene rating of 1. If i'd known this I never would have gone. Absolute disgrace that such an establishment receives a 1 when they have regular customers. One to avoid.

Never had a bad meal after many years of eating here. Good portion sizes and really good money value. Ideally they would do better deserts though, Gulab Jamon, Garjar Halwa would be great.

I am a loyal user of Zest for over 2 years weekly.

My boyfriend, 13 month old son and I decided we wanted a curry so we visited Zest. I had been here in march with family and decided to bring the other half. Although it took a while for our food order to be taken, a booster seat was brought for our son and popadums were delivered very quickly. My boyfriend ordered the chicken pakora starter and chicken tikka massala main course and I had the malai wings and a passanda for main. The food was brought fairly quickly and was all delicious and the garlic naan for my little boy disappeared! We will be back again.....

Food and service was excellent, from the moment we walked in nothing was too much for staff, the food was hot when it arrived, there was so much food we asked for a doggy bag, I would definitely recommend Zest.

Nothing bad about this place but nothing wowed me also, food was ok and so was service, room could do with an update

On 22 June, l took my mum to Zest for her 96th Birthday. The staff were so loving and caring with her. We were shown to our usual table, and we love the atmosphere there and the happy and smiling staff. The food was delicious as always, and the service is very good. After we had eaten Azad, our lovely server, brought my mum a very large piece of Carrot cake with a candle and Azad and two other servers sang Happy Birthday to her. She was so thrilled, it really made her day. So would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the lovely staff at Zest and to Azad for his thoughtfulness, and kindness to my mum.
