Went 27th july for our 50th wedding anniversary. Party of 12 . All were very pleased with their meals. Food was hot ,very tasty and plentiful. Great service. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Went with the family tonight to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had great meals all arrived together was hot and everyone was pleased with what they ordered. Great service and reasonably priced. Well done.

Food is amazing! I had chicken jalfrezi and it was fantastic. The kids love their korma and the missus had Lamb chops. The portions are plentiful and you will be left more than satisfied with your meal. Really enjoyed it and I am full to burst!

Terrible service food just thrown on table and no one came round to check if everything was ok and had to Go to bar to reorder drinks for the table

Went here last night with family, I had The onion Bhaji for starters they were flat which I find unusual & they tasted like the ones from asda & the ticka masalla was very bland so won't be going here again,cost over £200

Average curry, service is horrendous you’ll be sat waiting for an hour before someone comes over. Definitely wouldn’t come back, roll on the diggers.

Came here for a work leaving party, more guests than anticipated arrived but the Raj staff were able to accommodate. We had the set meals which were an absolute bargain. Drinks were very reasonably priced also.

Food was one of the best. The only thing that let it down was the service My plate was taken before I had finished, and they never asked We had to go to the bar to pay because they had forgotten to come back to our table for us to pay

My partner and I have frequently visited the Raj gate, at least once a month for the past 11 years, and will continue to do so. Food is delicious, always consistent, along with the excellent service and price. A warm welcome greets you. Sit down relax and enjoy the experience the Raj gate offers. You will not be dissapointed. We are never disappointed with raj gate always a friendly welcome. The food is always spot on and when we went Saturday with friends we had the same lovely welcome from kamal and all the staff. The food as always was plentiful hot and tasty thanks guys for great night out see you soon

The lamb starter was cold and the lamb was tough. The chicken shashlik was awful and the curry sauce was one of the worst I have had. We went as a group and the service was very rushed. We will not be visiting here again

Visited here with my partner for tea, we’ve visited a few time. We’ve found it’s hit and miss sometimes the best experience sometimes not. The staff are always really friendly and always remember us on each occasion we have visited. On this particular occasion it wasn’t the best experience we was greeted by staff and shown to our table which was fab got a drink and ordered. We hadn’t even poured our bottled drink in to our glass before we was asked if we had any empty bottles or glass which was fine they wanted to keep the table clean for us but this happened 5 or 6 times in the space of an hour, quite annoying if ur trying to have a nice meal together. Then our main got delivered, curry was quite bland which no matter which curry house you go to the curry never tastes the same, my partner then pulled a piece of hair that was imbedded in his chicken out of his mouth, on closer inspection he then went on to find what looked like plastic strands on his plate. We didn’t say nothing because we are not the type of people to kick up a fuss and for people to hear, so when our plates were collected we told the waiter what had happened and he actually had what looked like a strand of plastic in his hand to show the waiter, there wasn’t much of an apology basically slammed the bill down infront of us and said he had knocked the curry sauce off the bill. Very disappointing experience

Love this place. Best curry restaurant around. Great food, lovely atmosphere, great service and friendly staff. I get a takeaway at least once a week, and often eat in as well. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Went for a meal got stuck in the nursery area very noisy lot of loud adults ... couldn't wait for them to go... main course good plates snatched away no offer of sweet coffee or further drinks no question of meal.ok not really very busy and very poor service ... didn't leave a tip

After reading reviews, I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant but was left very disappointed, as were a few of us in our group. Our starters were fine however a number of our main meals ( I had the special garlic chicken balti) didn’t taste of anything whatsoever, so the meals were left barely touched, really disappointing, there was no spices to add flavour etc. There were about 15 whole chunks of garlic in my meal, which was way too much, instead of smaller amounts chopped/sliced to release the flavour. The garlic rice was exactly the same, which had about 20 whole garlic cloves in it. Curries are about the spices and sadly this place doesn’t seem to use them. Sadly not a single spice seed in sight. A decent curry always has the spices in it, especially a balti etc.

We came for my husbands 50th birthday, it was the first time we had come . The food was fantastic there was loads. Want to say thankyou for making all 12 of us very welcome. We will definitely be back.

First time my friend and I had been here. Easy well lit parking. Very impressive inside and a genuine welcome as we entered without a booking. Wonderful staff were not perturbed by one of us eating from starter menu. The food was excellent and prices very reasonable. Overall we were impressed and will be back.

After reading some of the reviews, me & my son decided to give this place a try. We travelled from Hindley, so we were pushing the boat out. Didn't get off to a good start when they plonked us on a 2 seater table in between 2 other tables, it felt really uncomfortable with 4 strangers on the left & 3 on the right, close enough that I could've shook hands with them, if it had been busy & short of room I would've understood, but there were other empty tables they could've sat us at, the girl on my right watched every chip I ate. Service was quick, but the food soon went cold, I'm not one to just slap everything on my plate, so food that were left in the dishes soon went cold. My chicken was a bit grissly, even though I'd ordered chicken tikka. My son had a pint of diet coke & I had a half, they're charging £5 a pint for that, that's £8.75 a litre, 6 times dearer than Diesel. I didn't think our experience reflected the good feedbacks that I'd read earlier, in fact, I couldn't see what all the fuss was about, the meal itself was pretty average, but they spoiled it for me by cramming us into a small area just to make the place look busy, no one else came into the place after us, so it wasn't like they were saving seats for booked guests.

So, had a real good time at Raj Gate Indian Restaurant during our Christmas work thing. The place had this genuine holiday vibe, and the staff? They were like your pals looking out for you. Attended at the weekend and as regular visitors expected a great meal. Not so this time. Yes it was busy but the popadoms definitely weren't fresh and although we waited forever for our meals the standard wasn't as good, and to top it off the bill for popadoms and 2 mains plus drinks came to over £50! Will think twice next time.

This has to be one of the best indian restaurants around.. great atmosphere, fantastic friendly staff, and outstanding food at great prices. We've been here many times and without doubt one of the best

Haven't been here for a while but the experience was still good. It was very busy considering it was a Monday and they may have been a little short staffed which would explain why we waited about 15 minutes for our booked table. However, they made up for this with their friendly and professional service. Food was very good and not expensive. Will defo return.

Best Indian in Wigan. Food’s amazing and the sauce is actually hot. Struggled for years to find an Indian with hot sauces but this place gets it spot on. Also, fastest pick up times I’ve ever known. Genuinely amazing place. Also, fish pakora starter is a great little find.

Lairs from start to finish we ordered a takeaway online and we understood the restaurant opened at 3.00 pm as it states on Google there website and has a sign on the door saying 3.00 pm we got there at 3.10 pm there was no lights on no one there we rang no answer so we waited a while then set of home we had a phone call from the manager saying your order is ready we said you weren’t open at the allocated times stated the manager said we open at 3.30 pm so we said all your signage says 3.00pm the manager said well that we will have to contact his signage people to get it changed and said we can’t get here by 3.00pm as we have to come for Blackburn. What I want to know is why is it my fault for your incorrect signage and your time keeping to get to the restaurant on time. We live 20 minutes away from the restaurant so in total it took us 80 minutes for two trips because they make their own hours up the owner really needs to sort the rude manager out and your signage. Won’t be coming back to here again serious avoid as the food after being sat there for so long was so terrible as well.

I ordered a takeaway online early on Saturday evening. I turned up at the time they said, paid and received the order straight away. When I got home, I found that the chips were hard and cold, and that the rice was cold too. I phoned up and complained and was told that they made these up in batches, then just put them in the bag. So they admitted that these weren't fresh. Won't be getting another takeaway from them.

First time for us at Raj gate celebrating Fathers Day last Sunday. There were 10 of us and we all had the set menu which was excellent value. The food was very tasty and good portion sizes. What let it down was the poor service. It was chaotic with people collecting takeaways and staff running round like headless chickens. We wanted the fathers in our group to feel special but instead we were chasing drinks and it took a good half hour before our food order was taken. Plates weren’t cleared after we’d finished and we were then asked if we were leaving as they needed the table. Maybe when there are special occasions have more staff on and have certain people dealing with takeaways whilst others concentrate on the main restaurant.

Food is good, similar to my all time favorite Bangla Spice in Leyland. Almost identical early bird menu. Food was good, but not as good as Bangla.

After reading so many reviews about this restaurant, we decided to visit to celebrate a family birthday and we were not disappointed. The venue was light and comfortable, our hosts were welcoming and pleasant the whole time. The food was amazing but I would suggest ignore the 'chilli symbols' on the menus as the food we got (chicken jalfrezi and rogan josh) felt hotter than we're used to. The portion sizes are quite generous and if you can't eat all of it, they will put the rest in takeaway tubs for you to enjoy later on. All in all it was an enjoyable experience and recommend anyone who likes real Indian food to pay them all visit - I'll certainly be going back.

All I can say is I had the dinner last Wednesday (8th march) on my bday and had nothing whole day next day and at night (Thursday) throwing all out (even sink was blocked!!)! It’s Saturday today still having bloated tummy didn’t eat much last two days. This was the first local restaurant we had been since we moved in to orrell and first two visits were good. Third one last year hardly any meat or prawns in dishes we ordered so we stopped going there.last Wednesday because it was my bday and I had staff only covered me for 2 hours so weleft with no choice than going in to this again. Not a chance again 🙏🙏

A happy place to go for good food

Thought we'd try this Indian restaurant as is local, looks nice and we enjoy a curry. Found this place very expensive, not very tasty and to top it off all 4 of us became ill the next day, safe to say we wouldn't recommend and will not return.

Had a great mid week meal with family. We had the set price, early dine menu which was great value and the portion sizes were no different from the regular menu. I find their madras is a perfect hot spice level for me. Highly recommended.

As a long standing local customer over several years from the Old Nunnery Orrell. We were very disappointed with the standard of the curry sauce which was served to us as a takeaway today. If you want a local India curry do not go to the Raj Gate, better go to the Mount at Orrell as you will at least get a curry sauce and not coloured water. I did contact the restaurant this evening, only to be told that it is all down to the customers taste. Not the response you would expect. The staff member did not take my complaint seriously. The food is Very poor and the customer service is non existent. Recommend that they change the Shef and train the staff on customer service. Could write more ......

Terrible, very little meat and very greesy. The share starter for 2 , was only for half a person. It's put me off eating in for a meal!!! Spent 30 pound down the drain!!

Myself and two friends visited last night after discovering our first nearby choice was closed. The Raj was fairly busy for the time of year. This is always a good sign. I'm not sure where to start with the highlights. Service was very friendly and professional. The menu was pretty safe but with lots of options. From Monday to Thursday there is an 'early bird' offer (lucky us). We weren't particularly concerned with the cost and ordered whatever took our fancy. Popadoms were fresh and crispy, the starters were all nicely plated and hot. My main of chicken tikka jalfrezi had a nice hum to it. Breads and rices were all excellent. The real surprise of the night was the final bill for the 3 of us. Four popadoms, 3 starters, 3 mains with rice, a side salad, one naan bread, 3 large (600ml) bottles of Cobra and 2 pints of diet Coke. Total £68. An absolute steal. Even though its a half hour drive The Raj, I will be back.

As an outsider coming into this restaurant we were made to feel VERY unwelcome. Just me and my parents wanted a nice Christmas evening indian dinner and from the very start we were ignored. Took us ages to even get a drinks order to be taken- we were sat there 15 minutes and hadn’t even had our drinks order taken.. then the waiter came.. we thought he was coming to us but instead he started wiping down the table next to us and started resetting it, we was trying to make eye contact (and we know he could see us) as we wanted to order- but still ended up being ignored. Another FIFTEEN minutes later another waiter comes over and we finally ordered. Food was mediocre- not hot, just warm. Hardly any chicken in my mums curry maybe like 4 pieces. We had already pre-booked onto the set menu for £45!! per person- including a dessert but only ONE pudding was available in the end. When we asked about it the waiter just shrugged and said everything else had sold out (ok fair enough this happens) but his attitude was indifferent towards us. So we had no choice to go for the Christmas pudding as it was already pre-paid and it was rock hard solid!! We asked if we could just have plain ice cream instead seen as everything else had ran out but he said we had to pay extra. (This was before we ordered the puds)! In between all this we had to keep catching different waiters attention just to ask for drinks in between. No one was coming to our table for whatever reason, but we noticed staff staring at our table and then walking away without acknowledging us. We also noticed they were attending other tables absolutely fine, this came apparent they were regulars (listening into the chats) and they were getting all the “special attention” as we were just getting dismissed/ignored. The curries were bland and like I said earlier, not even hot. We understand it’s Christmas and a busy time for hospitality staff, but when we see other people get treated differently to us, it isn’t an issue of “too rushed off your feet” it’s a case of prioritising certain people you know, over people you don’t know, We were all really excited for our Indian tonight abut we was severely disappointed and definitely won’t be returning. £200 spent between the 3 of us tonight for a rubbish meal and an even more rubbish service. We normally would leave a huge tip (especially at Christmas!) as we have all the respect in the world for hospitality staff- but after the treatment we got tonight we didn’t see this place deserving enough to receive this from us.

We went as a party of 4 We had a great night, great food, good entertainment on during the evening.Entertaiment is not always on so check first . The food was fantastic. We were not rushed, and service was spot on . The staff was super freindly and very very plesent we had a great night great laugh with the staff . We will definitely be going back . Top night and the restaurant is spotless .
