Food was awesome. Let it for the staff to keep small bites and drinks flowing all night. Interesting prep and presentation. Far cry from a traditional Mexican resturant in a vary good way. .

This was our second visit to Zapote. I came here with my wife late last year and this time we doubled down with my two sons in tow. We'd probably sampled just under half of the menu on our last visit so this was a chance to try the 'other' half. I expected that there might have been some changes to the menu from our previous visit several months earlier - but I don't think there were. Nevertheless, everything was excellent and of course every dish sounded so intriguing. I would also have to say that the service was as excellent as it was on our last visit even though the restaurant was far busier than last time - which is, of course, a very positive sign. We hadn't tried any of the desserts this time - and this time we tried them all! All in all a thoroughly enjoyable and excellent meal.

Our first visit to this restaurant, which is less than a year old and located in London's trendy Shoreditch, a 10-minute or so walk from Old Street tube station (take the left-most exit). This was always going to make for an interesting comparison, after we enjoyed so much Tex-Mex food around Houston a couple of months ago, and Mexican food in East Los Angeles, around the same time. As it turned out, Zapote is a very different kettle of fish from what we enjoyed in both Texas and California, with a very modern approach to Mexican cuisine. Some very traditional elements but with the subtle addition of added ingredients and flavours that made for one of our best meals of the year as well as one of the very best in London. We were lucky, I guess, in that the restaurant was not too busy when we visited - a sunny Friday. Perhaps that allowed the chefs ample time to prepare the dishes, some of which are pretty complex, both in terms of intricacy of preparation and the number of ingredients. It would be interesting to see if they can maintain that same level in the evening when the restaurant is extremely busy. The reviews that we read beforehand suggested that each dish was small or even miniscule. Of course it's all subjective but that wasn't our experience. Some dishes such as the sweet potato - were quite heavy. In any case, we ended up overordering - but that wasn't something we necessarily regretted! The dishes arrived about two at a time - a really nice interval - allowing us to really savour each dish, without being inundated by them all coming at the same time. The first dish to arrive was the red prawn ceviche - and that was probably my favourite of the bunch. It was just exquisite, enhanced by the nuttiness of finely chopped pistachios and the sourness of tiny kumquats. The duck quesadilla was terrific too. Duck can be chewy but this was lovely and light as was the quesadilla casing. I'm really not a fan of sweet potato, but this was perhaps my second favourite dish of the meal. The roasted corn was good too though perhaps a tad overcooked. The waiter couldn't explain what the recado negro was but it tasted great. I'm still looking for something as good as the corn that Lucha Loco in Singapore serves. By the time that the suckling pig arrived we were getting a bit full but this was wonderful although perhaps the top of the pig could have been a little crunchier. The corn tortillas that came with this were the best I've ever tasted - in fact even better than what we'd had in the US. Perhaps my least favourite dish was the smoked aubergine tostada: the tostada itself was terrific but the smoked aubergine was not as good as the smoked aubergine I love in Thai food and as in babaganoush. Overall, a sensational meal and for sure we'll be going again.

Outstanding menu - mostly small and sharing dishes. Every dish executed perfectly. The vegetable dishes will totally change your perspective on what can be achieved with the basics. Service excellent too. Ate a lot meal for £60 a head including drinks. Would have paid more

The food and service were amazing. Our server provided some excellent recommendations, which were spot on. We loved the tuna dish and the chicken croquettes, but all the dishes we selected were delicious. Very relaxed restaurant with great ambience.

Fine. Food good but ridiculously overpriced. Don’t go if you’re hungry. Service good. Overall, underwhelming.

This isn't your standard cheese-beef-and-beans Mexican restaurant. The food at Zapote is wonderfully inventive, flavourful and delicious. The menu consists mainly of small-ish plates which you are encouraged to share, but be warned, you will not want to share. I have had dinner here 3 times (so far) and there is nothing I wanted to share! My favourite dish is the Tuna andCrab Tostada, though the Chargrilled Sweetcorn and Anchovy Tostada is also delicious. The Crispy Baby Artichoke is a winner too, and the guacamole (starter) is the best I've ever had. The service is impeccable, not only timely but also friendly and helpful. The space is pleasant but noisy. It is all hard surfaces, so when the restaurant fills up it is cacophonous. The prices are reasonable - about £55 per head with 3 dishes each, draft beers, margaritas, and guacamole.

My colleagues and I visited yesterday on the recommendation of some people we got chatting to at The Botanist nearby. Service was excellent, all of the dishes were outstanding and arrived quickly. The suckling pig and the spicy chorizo were probably my favourites. The only one I didn’t really enjoy was the cauliflower but that’s personal taste. Will definitely return when I get an opportunity.

Amazing food with so much taste. Two of us had a number of dishes and all but one were out of this world. The only one that didn't quite hit the mark was the charred cauliflower with almond mole and black truffle. The suckling pig was one of the best things we've ever tasted. Expensive cocktails, but the classic margarita was very good. Service was excellent and friendly. Zapote deserves to be packed every night, and if we lived in London it would be a regular haunt for us.

Unbelievable flavours - this is possibly the most amazing meal I have ever experienced. We had the tuna and crab, the shockingly good skewers, but the stars of the show for us were the sweet potatoes which are out of this world in terms of flavour, and the suckling pig served with superb tortillas and a delicious sauce. We also really enjoyed the pig skin which is a Mexican version of pork scratchings with one heck of a spicy sauce. We loved it all. Best meal ever. We will be back. Muchas gracias a todo.

Enjoyed a varied menu of fine dining style small plates. The waitress helpfully recommended some stand out dishes, including the tuna toastada, octopus and melt in the mouth slow cooked one tongue tortillas. Finished with the perfect combo of pistachio doughnut with cherry jam.

We all loved the food if a little small on the portion side, flavour makes up for it and some really cool and interesting combinations. Staff are fantastic and really accommodating. Prices for food, beer and wine are reasonable but £12 a shot for the 'house' tequila is a bit of a pisstake!

Exactly the place that we needed in Shoreditch! A Mexican restaurant with posh look, relaxed atmosphere, fun staff and the most whetting and tasty tacos I have ever eaten in London. Ideal for every occasion. When I got the menu I was really tempted to take one each of what was on it , as the variety is amazing. In the end, however, I did manage to order at least half of the tacos that were on the menu including: ox tongue, suckling pig, guineafowl, lamb, beef tartare, yellowfin tuna and also aubergine and corn. Everything accompanied with towering tortillas. I really couldn’t tell which one I preferred, as I was mostly impressed by the different combination and original food-sauce pairing. The staff is also very friendly and caring. People like Rocío enhanced our experience as we felt catered for the whole time and with a smile. They also offered us the dessert and they wrote “Tanti Auguri” on it as it was my birthday. Will sure come back!

We stayed one night on February 24, returning to our hotel and looking for a place to have a quick dinner. At first we hesitated to go in because it was empty. We saw the reviews on Google and decided to take a chance.😍😍Very good service and great food. Cheap for London. I have to say that we were eating looking out the window and talking and when we realized the place was full of residents in the neighborhood collecting their messes for dinner.
