ZAKS Mousehold Diner in Norwich

Unfortunately I can’t even say the food was average,me and my partner had the chicken fillet with cheese but asked for bbq source instead of the original sauce, the chicken came out with no cheese on it and a thing horrible bbq sauce with mushrooms in it , the fillets chicken was plain, looked like it was fried not even chargrilled very plain, I asked for straight fry’s and got curly ones, starters were onion rings with potatoe wedges and cheese at last on them , they were average, my son had some sort of chicken which was plain too and didn’t have any taste to it, daughter had mac and cheese, if the food was like the menu looked then maybe it would have tasted great - won’t be coming back sorry

My experience was great, the hotdogs, burgers are good and the starters are amazing. The staff is nice and the orders are never wrong.

The food & service was fantastic, but unfortunately we felt that parking wasn't great especially at lunchtime on a Sunday & we feel not suitable for someone who needs mobility access.

Quite simply the best burgers in Norwich with a variety of creative options.

Zak’s used to be so good but it seems to be in decline. The food was ok, but… It seems like there has been zero investment in decor and facilities in the restaurants for years. There also seems to be less and less veggie options every time I visit, surely you can do better than a moving mountains burger? When the food and the dining experience is average I resent paying £4 for a can of Dr Pepper! It seems like they’re taking their loyal customers for granted to me. Won’t be back in a hurry.

Recommend Zaks Mousehold for any occasion. Quality food and good portions, all at a reasonable price. I was in a party of 10 and we are already planning our next visit

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this American- themed 'diner'. Very generous portions, hot, fresh and nicely presented by friendly staff. We felt though that the menu could have been a little broader, as it was limited to burgers in various forms ( including veggie and vegan) with a good range of toppings and accompaniments. Even so, it would have been nice to have a few other items to choose from.

I've been going to Zaks for more years than I can remember, usually the Barrack Street venue. Tried Mousehold today, had the pulled pork, which was utterly grim. There was something 'sinewy' in amongst it, which went I to the empty coleslaw bowl and covered with the pickle so that it was out of sight. Fries were cold. I should have said something, and probably would have, had I been asked. An extraordinary poor experience. Never again.

It's Zaks! If you've not been to any of them then you're missing something. No complaints at all. Think they've added new meals as well. Car park slightly inadequate so advise you to car share

Good well known Burger joint in Norwich. I've been coming here for years and am sure I will continue to do so. The only thing that has changed is the prices, as the menu has always been consistent with some additions. I always order the same thing and am never brave enough to try anything else! Food is always good, but I do feel that as the prices have increased, when compared against some gourmet burger places, unfortunately I don't think the quality compares. I will come back as it is a well known favourite in Norwich, but I do feel it is now a bit overpriced.

Food was good as always but venue is quite cramped, poringland is our usual Zak's and our preferred on but was fully booked.

Booked in a table on Halloween were seated upstairs… lady upstairs serving was very polite and helpful middle aged lady! Credit to her Very dissatisfied with my choice of meal I chose legs& thighs really badly cooked almost burnt to the point I couldn’t eat it I only tried to eat two pieces as was very over cooked… my son and his partner had a party of wings and they were very overcooked too very disappointed!

Brilliant food and exceptional service. I would like to highlight one staff member in particular, a lady with grey hair (apologies, didn't get her name) who was superb and added to the experience. I would like our thanks passed on to her.

Really good good. Massive portions. Staff nice and reasonable prices. Shame dogs not allowed as it's on edge of forest walks. Loads of parking. Worth a visit.

One of my most favourite places to eat, if you like chicken wings this place is amazing for them.

Lovely diner upon a hill. I walk with a walking stick but was still able to get into the property. The food did cost a lot but the portion sizes made up for it. Would recommend going later in the day for less people to have a more intimate time with partners ^^

Came for a celebration meal with family that was spoilt. Ordered the chicken sizzling skillet from the House Specials only to later be told they had run out of chicken fillets! How? This is a basic item which features in many of the menu options. Swapped to the halumi skillet. It was so greasy, onion and peppers literally slimey and soggy. Left all the veggies. Order with sweet potato fies which were also soggy. Rest of the family ordered burgers and although ordered their burgers cooked differently they all came the same which seemed to be a standard medium-well. Why ask how you would like your burger? Had to ask for cutlery as they were not brought with the food and then when it was not enough forks. When ordering desserts waiting staff didn't know what cheesecake of the day was and had to check. Certainly will not rush back. Lack of communication between kitchen and serving staff. Plus just not getting the basics right.

Have visited a few times and am always blown away by how great everything is. Service is always really friendly, and the menu is fun to look through. Dietary restrictions are catered well, and portion sizes are immense (so be warned!) Décor is Americana themed, which makes it fun to look around while waiting for food. If you haven't already, give it a go!

The Web page says it's open tonight. I've just called 8 TIMES to try an cancel a reservation on Saturday an NO ONE has answered the phone! I won't be calling again. I've done my due diligence

Yes, it's outdated, but the team did very well to serve 13 hungry men wings and beer all night.

Gluten free delight! (The two veggies approve too) Parking isn’t great, but there’s plenty down the road, the walk when so full was probably good for me to stretch. The gluten free bun was surprisingly as good as a normal bun, which is shocking as most available in shops are revolting. The potato products aren’t classified as gluten free due to being fried (cross contamination) but were fine like most places. Food itself everyone seemed to have loved, apart from the cheese on the macaroni isn’t very cheese tasting, but possibly could be American style cheese, and the eater of it is very picky. All in all, amazing experience and food, especially as I struggle to find places to eat. Will definitely be back.

Came to zak’s a few days ago to celebrate an anniversary; we were immediately greeted with a smile and taken to our seats. We loved the wide menu that Zak’s had to offer; we will be returning to try more of the menu. Food was amazing and so was the service. Joe was our server; he was lovely throughout. He was the perfect blend of professional and friendly, he certainly elevated our dining experience and made us feel cared for in a busy restaurant. Thank you Zak’s and thank you Joe. 👍

We had an amazing lunch at Zak’s today. The food was good and portions big. Our server was attentive and listened to everything we said, bringing the bill with dessert when we were in a rush. Top notch.

Not keen on air conditioning and felt a bit chilly however that is a personal preference.Lots of food on plate but was given a box to take some home.Friendly helpful staff

Early evening, reserved table for three, pleasant surroundings and staff but wedges, on this occasion, were overcooked.

Friendly staff and an excellent menu choice for meat eaters and vegans. We had a lovely family evening; my 3 stars for atmosphere is simply because I don't enjoy these places. My issue, not Zaks. Would go back.

Fantastic table service. All staff were extremely friendly & helpful. Food was next level. We rang up to say we would be slightly late and the women I spoke to was so understanding. I’d like to point out how brilliant our waitress was. The service was 10/10!!! So sorry but i can’t remember her name but she had dark hair & glasses. ( 4pm table 3 people ) We will return in the near future !

Upstairs is miles better than being sat downstairs. But absolute Norwich classic. Foods always amazing, the service is always brilliant, can never complain walking from this place, belly stuffed with so much food. Good value for money with massive portions and tastes great.

Came here with a friend on arrival was not impressed As we found our table we ordered our food one of the girls were very rude but another young lady was more helpful When the food arrived my burger was a lot of smaller than I thought it would be. The food is really over priced when I got my bill I was shocked its just not justify Having been to ed's diner in the past which i really enjoyed i was expecting the same thing from zak's unfortunately this was not the case I didn't feel like i was in a American diner more like a cafe Overall terrible experience I will be more careful when picking another American diner to go to

We went to Mousehold for my birthday. The service with Debbie was amazing and as my husband has an allergy she looked after him brilliantly. The food was amazing as always and everyone in there was so helpful and friendly. We're all looking forward to going back. I'd definitely recommend.

I had the Frenchy burger with beef dripping gravy, absolutely delicious! Dipping the chips and burger in the gravy, so good, make sure to have extra napkins handy for any drips! Didn't take a photo as looked too good so tucked in straight away

We went to Zak’s the other day for my little boys birthday after not going for a while. A few weeks ago for my mums birthday we had gone to Fatso’s to try something new and in all honesty Fatso’s was awful. Zak’s on the other hand … what a lovely experience. The staff were super friendly. Dealt with allergy queries well. Drinks well well priced, food was well priced and portions were great. The music was a good volume. The only thing that lets Zak’s down is the tired interior that does need tidying up but it was generally really really good.

Popped in for a couple of takeaway drinks, staff were mega busy but still lovely to deal with and spared some time for us all the same. Still the most fun place to eat in the world :)

Fantastic food and service. Ordered the Halloumi sizzler, huge portion of halloumi cooked to perfection. Zak’s have always given good portion sizes and they did not disappoint. Huge portion of fries, and corn on the cob included with the meal, my choice there are other options. Service was friendly and quick.

Finally had the opportunity to visit the restaurant which is in a beautiful woodland area of Norwich at Mousehold Heath We were welcomed and shown to our table where we firstly ordered drinks, the chocolate milkshake was small but deliciously chocolatey and our starters soon followed, probably the best topped potato skins known to man Our main course was the Blue vein burgers with fries which looked amazing but I was a bit disappointed with how dry the ordinary burger was as I was asked how I wanted it to be cooked which lead me to believe it would be a quality meat, I wouldnt class the meal as anything special and certainly not worth the bill Plenty of free parking, the restaurant was clean and decorated beautifully with memorabillia

Been wanting to go here for a while but unfortunately I don't think I will be returning. The food was ok but the service was awful. No interaction and delivered without a smile or acknowledgement. If was like the staff didn't want to be there. On top of this, drinks took over 20 mins to arrive after chasing.

It's alright but not gram worthy, food was alright but way over priced for ribs and chips, also they need an alternative to coleslaw because it's not great. Location is a strange one, if you can drive your fine.

We pitched-up during a busy lunchtime service but the servers remained calm and friendly, despite a few customer complaints being thrown their way. Still no Black Pepper Special on the menu, so I plumped for the Western burger. It arrived in short order, the curly fries were hot but the burger itself was pretty cold. It felt like the chef had grabbed it out of the freezer and not given it long enough on the grill. The bun was not very fresh tasting either. I tried to flag down a busy server to advise of the sub-standard meal, but they were just too busy, so I ploughed-on regardless. Unfortunately, a disappointing visit on this occasion...will try again in the summer months.

Busy place with good atmosphere. Service is fast and food is good. Good sized portions and good quality, excellent value.

Regular visitors to Zak’s for many years. The staff are always amazing, as is the food. Sad to see a change of ice-cream as the vanilla is now mediocre in comparison to the Aldous ice-cream previous served. Admittedly we were a last minute booking on a Friday evening but the high table in the middle of the restaurant does not make for a comfortable meal. We felt uncomfortable sitting so much higher than everyone else especially as this is in the very centre of the restaurant. Using this table tucked in a corner would make customers feel much less self conscious.

Amazing place food was great and the baileys milkshake was divine. Great portion sizes , I think that's why the price is a bit higher. The only thing I'd changed was less peanut butter in th pb burger. Otherwise, loved the place

We had a glorious great big juicy dirty burger and fries. (Fries were nothing to shout about, they were a bit dry) but as always the burgers were amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff. Why would you go anywhere else for a burger?!

staff were very pleasant. we booked a table for 6pm, but there was no table ready for us until 6:20pm. our server was lovely & offered us a drink each on the house, which was a nice gesture. nothing wrong with the food, but i probably wouldn’t come back for it.

We have always loved Zaks @ Mousehold and maybe we were clinging onto the experiences we have had over several years of visiting there but we were so disappointed. We had been to the cinema and thought it would be the perfect way to finish our evening out. I had booked a table for 2 in advance in case it was really busy but then had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. The staff were polite and served us quite quickly after we sat down and we both ordered burgers and fries which we had ordered in previous years the blue vein burger and the surf and turf. Normally the surf and turf is on top of the burger but was now on the bun and my blue vein sauce was completely different to how I remembered having it last time. I will say both our toppings were nice but the buns were tough to cut into and the burgers were not done as we had asked so we wondered what the point was of asking how we would like them cooked in the first place and I found my burger to be overdone too. Unfortunately i left a lot of my meal but my partner did manage to finish his so I don't want to say this has gone downhill in the last few years as it is such a lovely restaurant but we came away not wanting to go back which is a real shame.

Food was lovely as always, unfortunately service was quite slow which was slightly disappointing but one Waitress (who wasn’t ours) was simply amazing, running around like a headless chicken making sure everyone was happy and served, even if it wasn’t her table… I’m not entirely sure how you spell her name but I think it’s Yağmur, so I would like to say a special thank you to her again, she certainly went above and beyond her job ☺️

Very upset to see that Zaks have removed the Mac n Cheese off there new Menu today not only is it a vegetarian option but unfortunately the only meal at Zaks my two older children eat so it was very awkward today.

Was very excited to come for lunch at Zak’s, the menu look great however the server was very rude. She was a big blonde lady, she made it seem like we were unconvincing her when we asked for some garlic bread and once we had finished our meal she said ‘wow that was very quick’ which I found to be very rude. We ordered chicken and it didn’t state that it was on the bone so I barely ate any because I do not enjoy eating chicken on the bone. Overall not as good of an experience as we had hoped.

Staff were impolite and impatient. The food was still frozen in the middle in one case. The food was piled high but clearly reheated several times. The deserts took ages to come, then we were told we had to leave as soon as possible while we were still eating. One of the children with us was very sick the next day. He was the only one to have a hot dog. I will definitely avoid going there in future.

I had a dinner reservation for 12:30. Short notice I was told that we wouldn’t be going as the other party was unwell. I called to cancel and apologise at 1 o’clock as that was the earliest convenience. And they hung up on my apology mid sentence. It was disrespectful and disappointing to see as the place usually has rather good customer service. I understand it may have been annoying for them but their response was high unprofessional.

Came here for work with 4 colleagues. Very busy Our table wasn't ready when we arrived so had to stand at the bar. Service was very good & food excellent & varied.

Visited one evening for a catch up family meal after several recommendations. Arriving at 18:30 it was good to have booked as even then it was very busy. Overall food was okay, nothing to shout about but plenty of fries to make sure you were full. A definite 3/5

After 20 years of loyalty, being spoken to after telling the manager and waitresses about a blue cheese and nut allergy we both received blue cheese starters... when commented we were asked to leave, and when I came back in the manager locked the door and called the police... we have the whole incident on camera and bet the response will be contact our email..

Excellent food with generous portion sizes. Always tastes amazing! The staff are always a pleasure too. Needs slightly better lighting (normal lights rather than multicoloured ones) but other than that; Zaks does the best burgers in Norfolk!

25th birthday treat for my youngest. Portion sizes are mega. Drinks list endless, including ice-cream floats and milkshakes to die for. Staff were really great. I don’t like American diners but I love this one.

Love this building, never can visit here and not order a burger, they're always lovely always leave feeling stuffed. Can't go wrong. Not the cheapest at 17 quid for burger topped with mac and cheese and tater tots but nice for a treat.

We come here for our mother's birthday usually once a year. Simple traditional American food. There's loads of variety of burgers and the portions are really big. Lovely atmosphere and decor.

Our go-to place when we fancy a treat. Has been consistently good for as long as I can remember.

So much fun, awesome atmosphere, and huge portions! The place itself is decked to the rafters with enamel signs, vintage posters, vinyl on the walls, and an old school coca-cola dispenser. The coloured lights really add to the diner vibe! Husband and I visited for the first time after booking on a whim and ordered soda floats (soda with ice-cream) and frickles (fried pickles) to start - and we had such a great time trying both. The batter used for the frickles is really tasty, better than a lot of batters we’ve tried. We definitely over-ordered for mains and ended up with a takeaway box. A burger cooked medium as big as my head, onion rings, and tater-tots smothered in blue cheese sauce (and they do mean smothered… I asked for the sauce on the side on our next visit as it was just that bit too much for me) Partner ordered a burger which came with an entire steak IN it… and also paid to double up on the patties! Attached a photo of his face when he saw the monster delivered to the table! And finally, mac and cheese on the side. Our wonderful server did warn us it was a lot of food, and we still went full-steam ahead - though we were appreciative when she later passed by and mentioned they have takeaway boxes… half the food came home with us! We visited again another day so my husband could try the Wednesday bottomless wings, and again had a great experience. I had a bratwurst hotdog with tater-tots and he had the wings, which he was grateful came with plenty of napkins and small wet-wipes to clean off his hands. Prices are competitive and not overly expensive at all. The service is really relaxed but engaging and kind. All three waitresses we have been served by had a laugh with us and were very knowledgable on the extensive menu.

FANTASTIC steak. Impromptu lunch with mother led us to Zak’s. We both fancied a steak. And we weren’t disappointed. It was DELICIOUS. I asked for medium and it came perfectly cooked. Delicious sides and I finally found somewhere that serves fried pickles. It was beautiful.
