Friendly welcome, good atmosphere, great service, beautiful starter & main with good size portions, will definitely be returning when back in town.

Went for an evening meal with my mother before the opera. Lived in Cardiff Bay for ten years and never tried Zaika before, will definitely come back! Wonderful food great flavours, couldn't even finish our meals the portions were so generous! Thoroughly recommend.

Excellent family friendly place. It was a really busy Saturday night yet we still received prompt, friendly service. The food was great and generous portions for a very reasonable price. Recommend the platter, generous, well cooked and delicious.

Came here today and food was so lush, but the service was even better. The manager even sorted us out with the starters and gave us 3 samosas even though the menu only says 2. The manager had good banter and he even gave us an educational lecture on full fat coke vs Diet Coke. He also complimented my converse, can’t complain at all. Will definitely come again!!

The full fat coke was amazing, all food was lush! Service was really good, manager was funny and making light hearted jokes with us! All good came fast, playlist was sick aswell! Definitely recommend this place we all enjoyed it so much!!

This was our first visit to Wales and our first time visiting this restaurant, and honestly it was amazing. The food was so delectable and the presentation was fantastic. For the first time, I felt excited to eat out. The service was so friendly and helpful and it was overall a great experience. 10/10 I would definitely recommend. The only issue we have is that that it’s too far from home!

I had dinner here on Saturday night with 8 family members and had an amazing meal.It was the first time I had been and I was pleasantly surprised at the spacious, beautifully presented restaurant. The staff were super friendly and attentive serving us our poppadoms and drinks within 10 minutes of being sat down.We ordered lots of food and each of us loved every piece of it.The portions are generous and absolutely delicious!I ordered the vegetable biryani, chana masala and Peshwari naan to share between two and there was still loads left over. It was really tasty too with the right amount of spice.And it’s a bonus to be able to park right outside of the restaurant which is rare in Cardiff.Thank you Zaika team for a great meal, we will definitely be back soon!

Very very very bad restaurant! The service is the shittest i have ever seen!! Very unprofessional staff that do not work properly and don’t even want to serve you! We were 5 people, firstly the guy was unprofessional while taking the order, then the food came late but all my friends had the food and i have been waiting, so after almost one hour i went to ask about my food they said they haven’t got it!! I mean what kind of staff that don’t bother their selves to tell the costumer that they haven’t got the food!!!!I totally don’t recommend it…

Excellent. My flatmate and I both independently read a review by a food critic about Zaika. After discussing dinner plans, we made the decision to give it a try. The review was extremely complimentary after all.We had Poppadoms, a mixed grill (shared), and a biriyani each, with breads. The quality of the food was exceptional, the staff were extremely friendly and the portion size was beyond generous. We took most of our biriyanis and breads home for the next day, slightly gutted to manage so little at the time because of how good it was but also excited for the next days leftovers.The bill came to a little under £40 for us both - and it was enough food for at least four people. I'd recommend sharing a biriyani between two if you go. And thoroughly enjoyable throughout. Would very much recommend heading over.Sadly, after 5 years of living in the bay we are both heading away from the area shortly. I wish we'd have discovered Zaika sooner!

Went there with my partner on Saturday night after the cinema after being recommended by numerous people about this restaurant. It was absolutely delicious and will definitely be visiting again, the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble and everything was clean and fresh .. looking forward to the next visit already

It was bad experience we booked the table for 6:30 we was late like 3-5 minutes then we want to the restaurant and the stuff was very very rude with us and he said we’re late he give someone else our table very disappointed with the service

Restaurant opened at 4pm. Visited this place at 4:10Order taken around 4:15pm. Requested poppadoms after order was taken. waiter said it's 4pm poppadoms have not been made?4:35pm mopping begins by a staff member. When the mopping came around my table I can smell stench coming from the mop and the whiff remained behind as the floor was drying out. Ordered chicken shindi biryani, sent it back as no potatoes in the dish as described. Dish returned chicken now gone missing. Went to pay and there were extra charges on my bill. I queried it with the boss. He says it's only £1 why am I complaining for????? WOWI replied, Exactly... why are you charging customer extra £1.20 when i never ordered this item. If a mistake is done by your staff that's not for me to pay. Boss Turns around and says have the meal for free in anger. I reply and say no I will pay for what I ordered. He wouldn't accept. I then mentioned I will pay the whole bill, and I will put a review on here and Google etc. Boss again in anger says to have the meal for free and not to put a review. He eventually walks away. I refused to have the meal for free and requested the other waiter to take payment. the basic principals and emphasis of customer service is not adhered in this so called 'cuisine'. Mopping around customers, charging unnecessary extras and then arguing with customers is unacceptable.

Currently on a staycation in Cardiff from London . We arrived without a booking - 22 people in total and the restaurant even though very busy accommodated our group . Lovely friendly service from the whole team and the food was freshly cooked and delicious ! - also very reasonably priced . Will visit if ever down these ends again . Thank you !

Worst Customer Service You Will Receive in Cardiff. Avoid This Place if you can.I ordered via ubereats and was told it will take 30 minutes to be ready. Once there I saw the owner watching tennis on his phone.I enquired about my order and realised it was not even processed on the system. I was told it will take another 25 minutes making it waiting for an hour.However, instead of receiving an apology, the owner starts shouting at me saying that its my fault I waited 30 minutes and if I want an apology then to punch his face . The owner then says that im not his customer and to cancel my order and leave the place.Never again will I order from that place again and the old man has a serious attitude problem.

Shocking Service, they didnt even greet us in, which I could have passed, not really a biggie.When the food arrived on a trolley, the waiter told me and my male cousin (all other members were women) “come on dont just stand there, pass it along you should know what to do.” Just hearing this really made me angry. I wanted to have a private chat after the meal with the waiter but my family said “dont. Just make a review.”There was also just under a year ago another incident, where we had a family wedding and we had ordered curry and one of the fish curries never turned up, he said we should have called straight away when noticing & even worse no refund for it.Waaist of space this place is will never go again, and the manager is rude himself, even walks away from you when he’s taking tour order, because someone else wants to order!!!!

Welcomed in to restaurant. Very quiet only a couple of other tables of diners. Food was fantastic.... my husband rated his chicken dupiaza “the best he’d had”. As we were eating other diners came in ( All Asian which shows their food must be reputable ) Overall a lovely meal to celebrate our Anniversary. Thank you

Ordered several currys and special zaika biryani and mixed grill. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience. Waiter very attentitive Prices not too bad. Would recommend

As most places were closed, we were pleased to find this place was open and didn’t have to book which was a bonus or so I thought. Most places were giving a 50% discount due to diners eating out and were informed upon our arrival that the food was full price and no discount was applicable. I could understand if I had asked the question but to be told this right away got my back up as I was more than happy to pay full price in any event.As we were hungry we ordered starter and main courses which we requested arrive at the same time. The place wasn’t full so didn’t expect the food to take too long. After 30 minutes of waiting the food still had not arrived. I asked the waiter why there was a delay but he just said they were busy. I waited patiently until our starters arrived and was disappointed to say the least. The lamp chops I ordered were virtually non existent. One piece was charred so badly that all that was left was a piece of black bone. I brought it to the attention of the main waiter as to why would you serve this and he just responded that it was well done and that everyone had different tastes. I mentioned that I would not have served this as it was burnt but he just walked off. As the portions were inadequate I asked for some kebabs to be brought out as well which I was more than happy to pay for but my request was ignored. The curry’s that came out were ok but very greasy and not very enjoyable. The only thing that tasted any good was the mango lassi. This if anything filled me up as I was fed up of waiting for the food and was so hungry that i drank the lassi but wished the food could have tasted as good. I recall the main waiter was more concerned with entertaining his friends then attending to the diners which was a shame. I did have high hopes for this place but won’t be back in a rush.

Absolutely horrific!! I had chicken dansak and it tasted like no other dansak I’ve ever had. Normally it has a sweet taste with a bit of spice. But this one was just greasy beyond belief!! No flavour whatsoever!! I don’t know how this restaurant has had good reviews , I’ve only given it the minimum I’m allowed to because I would have given it zero . Don’t go there for food it’s awful!!

I've been there twice, it's good value for money and the actual quality of the food is excellent. That's why I'll go there if I want Asian food in Cardiff. We were provided trays to put the rest of the food both times.But as the other reviews say, they've got things to improve. The last time, the waiter took our orther while being on the phone, for example. He wasn't very friendly and it was a bit cold inside. Probably I'll just order take away from now because the food is so much better than the average.

RIP off restaurant overcharging us at an engagement party. We paid for 60 people and didnt let us box any of the food but was more than happy to give food to the table organisers when we paid for everything. Backwards thinking RIP off restaurant stay well away for events ot partys

Fui al restaurante, nos compró agua y salsas, al menos 30 minutos después no se tomó ningún pedido y ningún personal vino a tomar el pedido a pesar de que compraron comida en la mesa de al lado. No estaban demasiado ocupados y 2 viejos estaban charlando en el mostrador. Vimos a un grupo de personas de cierta etnia entrar y ser atendidos de inmediato. Nos fuimos y no hace falta decir que nunca volveríamos. Este es un restaurante racista y si la bota estuviera en el otro pie habría un alboroto público.

One of the best Indian/ Pakistani restaurants. The food was delicious, the meat was soft and the taste authentic. Highly recommended. The staff were friendly. We ate all our dinners there when visiting Cardiff.

El hombre arrogante que acepta los pagos claramente no respeta a los clientes. Aunque parecía muy interesado en los lugareños que conocía.No solo nos hicieron esperar, sino que la comida estaba llena de aceite de cocina, el pollo estaba demasiado cocido y le faltaba sabor. Faltaba pan naan en el pedido y las patatas fritas estaban empapadas. No tienen textura en absoluto. El restaurante parecía estar lleno de personal. El personal no usaba mascarillas y la gente no seguía los marcadores colocados en el restaurante. Me interesaría ver la cocina como me di cuenta de que el camarero limpiaba un plato con un rollo de papel azul y luego lo llevaba a la cocina. Espero que esto no se haya reutilizado, especialmente en las circunstancias actuales. Los baños estaban limpios, lo diré, pero si estás buscando una buena comida auténtica, no te lo pierdas. Had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant! The owner was beyond rude and made a scene in front of other customers. He insulted my group of friends by calling us 'weird people'. He raised his voice several times and even asked us to 'just go, just leave'. He told the waiter not to waste his time on us. He was a very stingy man, constantly talking about how we as a group were rich and we weren't spending enough money in his restaurant. We all found this very disrespectful and were frankly shocked at the customer service we received.

I am still in shock and disbelief from the way in which my family and I were treated at zaika restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were met with grave hostility from the manager who initially refused to serve us because we looked like 'time wasters'. Much to my dismay, the owner made continuous references regarding our financial status, labeling us as 'poor' and 'money tight'. It became evident that he valued money over the non-existent customer service and despite us still parting with our money, we were continuously disrespected and dehumanized. The use of vulgar language and sarcastic undertones was traumatizing and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. The food came hot but was tasteless. We ordered chicken wings, chili masala curry, chicken biriyani, chips, and naan bread. The only acceptable food item was the sweet naan bread; it was apparent that the rest has been made with minimal effort.Just when I thought we had seen it all, the manager then pleaded for us to pay him cash and not use card with no explanation to follow. It seemed as if he was trying to hide something and the change that he gave us was taken from the back pocket of his trousers.I will never be visiting Zaika again. I get so upset thinking about how I was treated and hopefully, they get new management, for the sake of others. Avoid like a plague.

Came here as it was one of few restaurants open at 3pm midweek. It was completely empty on arrival but we were optimistic. After being pestered at least 4 times in the space of ten minutes to place our order, we did so only to be met with disappointment from the waiter/owner of the establishment. “You guys are rich, you’re from bham ( where’s the correlation??) why don’t you want to spend money for?” were just some of his remarks - even though we had ordered three main dishes with sides, albeit to share, between the three of us. Fast forward to receiving the food, and we were obviously no longer expecting great things but hoped it would be enough to tame our hunger. So when we received our tandoori lamp chops Main dish (7.50 for 5 pieces according to the menu), we were rather annoyed to see 4 pieces and 1/3 of a lamb chop as the 5th piece. We called over another staff member who seemed to understand and agreed to replace the chop. However he somehow misinterpreted our complaint as meaning we wanted to subsequently order another paid portion (??) and so brought it out. Once we clarified we did not order another portion, the boss was adamant that we would have to pay an additional 7.50 regardless of whether we ate it or not. He then openly criticising his waiter ‘ Do you know how expensive lamb chops are? You’ve just wasted 7.50! Don’t waste your time on these funny people”. By far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had, and the more I think about it now the more disrespected and vilified I feel in what were completely unavoidable circumstances. I would say getting rid of the main guy (and his greed) would go a long way to helping the restaurant, but seeing as he’s the owner of the establishment, there’s not much to be done!

Walked out. Rude, beyond rude. Empty restaurant was only allowed a minuscule table after asking for a larger table. There was a single diner in the restaurant. I would not eat here if it was the last restaurant In Cardiff as a starving man. There’s a good reason you have an empty restaurant.

During the early days when it was newly open the service & the food was really great. But as the business is settled everything is going so worst. Food is so oily,many times not properly cooked. Even hospitality is not upto the mark as we expect while visiting any restorant. Its completely third class.After every visit I am getting the worst experience..

VERY TASTY ASIAN FOOD. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUSI went many times and I tried a different curry each time. They were all very nice and they all had a unique delicious taste. The bread is also lovely and I also tried different ones. The location in Cardiff Bay is perfect, you can park for free.I took my falily, my friends and my colleagues there. They all loved it. I strongly recommend it.Just go, you won't regret it.

8 of us went out and we all really enjoyed our food. we all ordered different curry's and there were no complaints from any of us. Nice place will definitely be going back.

Honestly wish I could give it less than 1 star because it was the worst experience of my life.

A patronising waiter reminded us 3 times they do mild currys whilst taking our order. Explained they do mild, medium and hot levels of spice twice. The menu also includes very hot this was ommitted. My wife ordered hers medium and I hot. Neither had any particular level of spice to them, had hotter tikkas from tesco. It took 20mins after finishing our meal for the waiter to ask if we were done despite walking past us several times and clearing other tables who finished after us. When paying I was asked was this spice OK in a concerned manner. Won't be going back.

Good food, nice ambience and friendly staff. Prior to eating out here, I had read many reviews and almost didn't eat here. A while ago, a friend ordered food for an event at his place and I came with him to pick up the food and thought hang on the food is alright actually. So, here we are today. I couldn't find any fault with anything so come with an open mind and enjoy the food. Keep those positive vibes and all will be alright on the night....

We booked a table for 10 people and pre ordered the meals. We arrived at 7pm, poppodums and salad were immediately served followed by starters when requested and mains shortly after. The quality of food was to a high standard, I would recommend the Mixed Grill and Lahori Karahi (on the bone) for anyone who appreciates authentic Punjabi cuisine. The karahi is served in pan but is 1/2 kg so if you can't finish it tupperware is available to take home.

Lovely mixed grill and chappli kebab. My boyfriend is iraninan and not a big spice eater. Here it was his first taste of proper Asian cuisine. He fell in love with it

Great food and was served the way i requested it. Delicious and freshly prepared, I can honestly say it is the tastiest and most authentic indian i have tried in Cardiff and they have been consistent with service on the few occasions I have been. I would highly recommend to those who adore authentic indian cuisine. Only thing they do not have is alcohol.

From the moment my wife and I stepped into this elegant restaurant, we felt like VIPs. The staff were not only welcoming, they made us feel special.

Writing a negative review for the first time and for a reason. I wish could give less than 1. Came here just for nihari or Haleem. They didn't have nihari so requested for Haleem. Came quickly yes, but couldn't find any taste of meat in it. Was too mild or bland, requested to have some spices added, added too much spices that could not swallow at all. Overall it was not a Haleem but mixed lentils full stop. The rudest manager ever when I complained about the dish instead of apologising and listening, asked me better don't come here again and go somewhere else instead, even asked me to leave. Although I paid for what I didn't even eat. Terrible terrible Terrible service, left the so called Haleem on the table, the worst experience of dining out ever ever ever in my life. If you respect yourself please don't go there, honest opinion. On top of all that developed gastroenteritis means there is some issues with food handling and hygiene. Wouldn't recommend anyone in my honest opinion. Thoroughly disappointed

Waited on food for 2hours 3mins. Terrible service do not attend with family on a school night. My children were really tired and hungry due to the long wait. We could have gone just gone to sleep. Absolutely appalling service.

We went as a family of four to Zaika for the first time this evening and were very impressed with the food.

Following eating in the restaurant Saturday night myself & family members have received parking tickets for Parking in the bays behind the restaurant, which on our first visit earlier this year was confirmed as being their parking! On calling the restaurant to question this they denigned telling us this and hung up on me! If that is the quality of their customer service when they're not taking your money over the counter we won't be going again and will be passing this on to family & friends.

Turned up to an empty restaurant only to be told i couldnt have a table because im not muslim and its ramadan. However they were ok to take my money all year round. Will never visit you again.

These guys are highly unprofessional and inhuman. I reached restaurant just before 10 PM and asked for seat for 7 persons, the guy at the reception asked me to wait for few minutes. We waited till 10.25 PM and I checked again with him and he then asked me to check with restaurant owner. Restaurant owner said we are closing at 11 PM so we cannot serve the food. My question is if you were about to close at 11 then why you asked us to wait for 25 minutes. The term INHUMAN is used because we came with kids below 2 years of age and they were crying because of hunger and they didn't care at all. There were no apologies and no regret from their side.

I went to this place few times in past and always had amazing experience. My last trip on 2nd March was worst. I was so upset with things and couldn't share my feedback to the owner!!! I arrived with my family and had to wait for one more family to join us for dinner. The place was freezing cold, I asked someone about it he came back with two halogen heaters and that didn't help at all. We decided to sit somewhere more warm and changed the place but all in vain. Moving on we ordered food and the owner was very reluctant when I ordered chapli kabab my most favourite there. I didn't get the hint, when it arrived it didn't look like that at all, I had to send it back. We asked if food can be served in two intervals with starter first and main course later, but we ended up having all in one go with mango lasi missing. we reminded one guy and went in to check and came back saying its getting ready. Waited again and reminded one more person and he said we will finally get it. So it came in one glass rather than what we ordered- One whole jug for four of us. We had enough and decided to leave. We left very upset from there and decided not to come back. No value of money if you expect a service. Very bad service.

Absolutely disgusting service and food.on arrival found the place to be cold several people including me and my husband asked about air conditioning just to be told what air conditioning? Staff looking at each other knowing there is a problem but nobody bothered to address it disgusting!! instead had one person telling us its because its winter outside? So all 4 of us sat with our coats on throughout.Then food came the naans were more like thin flatbreads and the platter for 2 well to put it politely my 6 year old stopped after 2 bites.To top it off the food got cold really quickly due to there air conditioning problem. We then made them aware when paying that we were not happy and again mentioned the air conditioning to which the response was nothing! What a joke of a place and what a horrible experience.

The person who was taking our order was rude and made us felt like we were not welcomed. During order taking, he was very abrupt and asked weird questions such as if the other half of table was paying separately and thought that one of us was ordering for all. Clearly one of us only ordered for themselves and assumed that as per normal order taking, the guy would go around everyone to take order like any other restaurant would. To add on, we wanted to ensure some of the dishes weren’t spicey as we have different taste buds and young children. Especially one of us has IBD! He walked off saying ‘non spicey food is not tasty’. This put us off and we thought it was very rude to make such comments to customers who has chosen to dine there. We had to leave mentioning that we were not happy with the comment. He however did not apologise.

Me and the boyfriend really fancied a curry, so after searching for the best ones around we chose this restaurant. For a Sunday evening it was quite busy which was good! Service was speedy and the food was yummy! I got a Korma and the boyfriend got a Tikka the waiter asked what spice we wanted which I thought was good! Chicken nan and Keema nan were sooo good! Got a bit confused when it came to paying, you go up to the bar and tell them your table number and that’s where you pay. I’d definitely go back!

Hi,we went for first time to zaika for dinner and it was absolutely amazing experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant for Asian delicious food.

After seeing some of the reviews on here, I just cannot believe it. I was on holiday in Cardiff and went with family and friends. They had been before. I have got to say, I thought the service was exceptional, and very personal. They made sure you had everything you needed, extremely polite and well mannered. Waiting times were as you would expect in any restaurant when they cook your food fresh. No complaints with that one. The food was exceptional, we all had a variety of things and there were no complaints with any of it. We all enjoyed it very much. I have to say, we had a few jugs of a non alcoholic (all I can describe it as, is a mango smoothie) , it`s not a smoothie and the name escapes me, but it is to die for, so yummy. The setting is beautifully laid out. Not noisy, the staff were always smiling, which makes a big difference. For me, they couldn`t have done enough for us. I will definitely be going back again the next time I visit Cardiff. I live in Scotland so it is quite a way away, but I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant when you are next in Cardiff Bay.

Had a meal here on a Sunday evening.

This place has a few signs up on the windows, we open 1pm to 4pm for lunch but never are open. Please either take down the signs or open at correct times. Very disappointed.

The restaurant was modern and clean. Waiters were quiet but efficient. The fried rice was one of the best that I have had in a very long time. Friends fish tikka was well presented and tasted like an Asian version of fish and chips. Everything was share sized and drinks really cheap. We ordered a bottle of 7up for £2.90. £2.90 for a 1.5l bottle is better than cheap in a restaurant. Our bill came to £23 for the two of us. Definitely going back again to try some of their specials.

Came across this Asian restaurant when passing from the Future hotel i thought my wife and I would try it that evening .

My wife and I visited Saturday night as staying at nearby hotel. Place quiet at 7.30. Food ordered and when it arrived it was perfect but, too much. The service was a little haphazard with staff rushing about but not being effective.

I have been living in the UK for more than 2 years and i have been looking for Asian Restaurant which gives desi taste and feeling, ZAIKA restaurant fulfilled my craving for desi food. The food was just Amazing.

I’ve heard of this place due to its reputation while Ramadan and the buffet looked okay, but once we actually tried this place, it was the biggest regret/mistake trying this place, first of all when we arrived we sat down waited about 20mins to order our drinks and food then to actually get our drinks took another 15 mins food took an 1 hour, was contemplating to leave and go to the chicken house next door, but by then we’ve already wasted our time here for us too order, when we got the food what I had ordered was a lamb on the bone nihari, to start barely any lamb just fat on the bone and the sauce it was in was basically water with spices, when ordering the food I had requested the lamb dish to be at least madras hot considering they have madras on the menu, when I had asked the waiter he was soo clueless as he said “what is madras?” at that point me and friends about to burst into tears so I had to explain that I’d like it spicy, after being able to order and having our disappointing meal, I unfortunately was feeling sick and having stomach pains, the next morning we all felt the effect of the food take a toll, finally whilst trying to pay, the same waiter who served us could not calculate the meals right as he tried to double charge one of my mates, they were lucky we paid at all. Summarise would not recommend ever, better places in Cardiff, food was poisoning at best and waiter is completely clueless and have sent a letter to the council off Cardiff to look into this.

I was looking forward to dinning in Zaika as I live quite close and even though the food was okay, the service was absolutely dreadful. Waiters seemed clueless, food took hours to arrive and management don't seem to care. It's also worth noting the restaurant has a very limited drink range and does not serve alcohol.

One of the best nihari I have ever eaten. Class of its own. Good atmosphere. Good quantity and not that expensive either. Customer friendly and customer oriented service. Will try a different meal tonight and see if the taste of other meals hold good.

Went there for a family and friends dinner today, food was okay, won't say superb but wouldn't say bad, definitely will try again and order some new dishes from the menu. Definitely I felt the place was understaffed and service was not the best and we had to wait a long time and when the food arrived the starters arrived with the main course and then the staff were in a hurry for us to finish!!!
