I’m not happy in this restaurant

Good food, friendly, attentive service, nice table… so why the poor review? The pricing is run like a scam: 1) the prices are ex-VAT, which is truly bizarre for a London restaurant, and very much not the norm and questionable legally. So, when you see a main course for 30-40 pounds, don’t forget to add 20% on top of it. 2) Included 15% service charge - on top of the total which includes the VAT, so you’re paying service charge on top of the VAT. That’s fine if the restaurant was honest enough to include VAT in their menu, but they’re not - so if they want to scam you in how they present their prices, they also scam you by having you pay a 15% service charge on their added tax. 3) cover charge - it is not a cafe to hang out in, it’s a restaurant. So, when you’re scammed on the prices, scammed on the VAT, you’re also scammed on the cover charge - they charge a per person cover charge to sit at the table. And of course there is the 15% service charge and 20% VAT on top of the cover as well… So you see my point? Decent food, good service, perfectly fine place, run and priced like a cheap scam restaurant for tourists… which is maybe what it’s become for all the hotels around it that send their clients there. I would avoid a restaurant that prices like this; I would be happy to recommend them once they get over the pricing dishonesty and act legitimately towards customers who would then not feel so cheated. Avoid.

A really great Italian restaurant in Knightsbridge. The cars parked in front suggest that many patrons used to have their own cook back in the old days. Don’t be suprised of some reminiscence of mobster lunchnes (probably just prejudice). The food is great, so is the service. Prices are reasonable (though still high) for the location. Kids are welcome, with or without their Godfather.

Got the Lamb Ravioli, was comparable to microwave food. Flavor was extremely underwhelming and the portions made up for absolutely nothing. The ravioli was undercooked and the inside was lamb made of dry shredded lamb with no juices or flavor. The price was absolutely not worth it and I warn any tourist or anyone new in the area to absolutely avoid. Was ignored by service multiple times and waited longer for the bill than we did our food. Others I dined with were equally disappointed. I love Italian food and I have never been more disappointed. 2/10 at best. Poor quality food, Poor quality prices, and equally Poor service. Sorry to be brutal but I do not want other people to have a similar experience to myself. Be warned.

A great Italian restaurant. Kids friendly. Dishes are reliable, prices high as you would expect, given the expensive cars parked outside. If you’re looking for a great Italian place in Chelsea/Knightsbridge, go to Zafferano.

Staff at the door was very welcoming and kindly allocated us to a fantastic table with amazing ambience, however the food was underwhelming. The ravioli, priced at almost £30 included only 5 pieces and it tasted like it was microwaved, with a significant lack of flavour. The starters were nothing special for the prices set.

Too expensive , needed another meal after 1 hour of leaving the restaurant My local Italian is more refined, more authentic, almost same type of dishes for a quarter of the price It s a shame, I went there 15 years ago and it was impressive.

We live in Florida and yet best Branzino i have had was here in London at this restaurant. The food was amazing and the service impeccable .

A special lunch to celebrate the life of a very fine friend, and it didn't disappoint. The last time we visited Zafferano was several years ago, to finalise details for a special trip. Zafferano is now even finer than we remembered. A professional but charming and relaxed Italian Restaurant with equally charming and discreetly attentive staff. We started with a steaming hot Minestrone soup and a Fusilli tomato pasta dish. Both were very tasty and beautifully presented. Our mains were honeyed chicken breast with roasted potatoes & green beans. Desserts were hot apple pie with a custard base, topped with ice cream, all of which tasted marvellous. We would often have wine but didn't this time. Nevertheless, the wine list options are sophisticated and significantly vary in price. Although, it depends on what you choose, a meal here can be quite expensive. However, Zafferano is outstanding in every respect.

Very nice supportive staff. The maitre D is always welcoming. For a restaurant who has been around for a long time, the food is even better. Well done. The ambience is very homey. An environment the Italians themselves feel good eating there. Very impressive

I took the wonderful recommendation of the Alfeo Bolgheri Superiore Ceralti. Every bite, sip, and sensation were an amazing journey experience! When it was time for dessert, a lady from the staff found out it was my birthday. The dinner was my gift, and I was alone. The chef, staff, and customers sang happy birthday, and it was surprisingly emotional. Thank you, and I hope to come back soon!

This is an amazing italian restaurant. I went back after a long time and i saw they actually expanded the restaurant . Beautiful set up ,nice terrace , top service and excellent food. If I'm in London on a day out this place is one of my favourite to stop and having a proper italian lunch .

A classic local area restaurant that has been successful for decades and overall continues to deliver good Italian food and friendly service as it attracts the locals. Located close to Knightsbridge it’s easy to get a taxi or just walk from the two tube stations to this very local restaurant.

This place is overrated, honestly the food here was mediocre the starters where below average, the pastas were the best things on the menu I would give it an above average. The service was good enough we had a good waitress luckily but some waiters didn’t even know what was on the menu the restaurant should definitely fix that. Now the atmosphere was appalling didn’t feel like an Italian restaurant just plain colored tables and walls no music. But the worst part is the price we where 5 and payed like 150£ per person was not reasonable at all. Don’t know what was all the hype about this place. Go try it and see for yourself.

Final night in London - visiting from Canada we wanted to have romantic Italian dinner so we booked Zafferano’s. We ordered the burrata to start it was delicious! Our mains were lobster linguine and the ravioli which was so great! I ordered a mocktail and they went out of their way to get the ingredients at the store which was so nice. I’m giving a 3 because as we got the dessert menu it said you are automatically charged 2.20 £ for sitting down. That is just ridiculous, in Canadian dollars that’s 8$ just to have a seat at a table, I think customers should know right away when booking they are charged instantly per seat. This makes us not want to return to any restaurant that does this.

Dining experience itself - incredible. Perhaps the best ravioli I’ve ever had. Amazing service - my wife ordered a drink, and they were missing an ingredient. They actually ran down the street to get it, so they could make it. Wonderful selection and atmosphere. Only reason this is not 5+ stars…the £2.20 per person cover charge. I’m sure this was somehow highlighted before we ordered (on the menu, I’d imagine) but we missed it. Seeing it on the bill - it put a negative spin on the entire experience. And really - why?!?! Raise the price of the menu items 25 pence. Nobody would think a thing of it, and one wouldn’t feel ripped off upon getting the bill. And that represented like 2% of the total bill. But that is enough to leave a bad taste. Overall, an amazing experience. Just a poor ending.

Delicious lunch but when I arrived the music was very loud and, even after it was turned down, it was slightly intrusive.

Used to be one of Knightsbridge’s best restaurants. Feels very dated now, for the same money there are better options now sadly.

Looking at the pictures I would have expected something more. The manu was very basic. We had pasta which was not great. The pasta used was not of great quality (was al dente but yet gummy) and sauce not well done (too much garlic). Dessert were good Service is great

we know Zaffarano from years and iy still is good quality and very good cuisine although the potions could more it is acceptable the price are a bit higher than should be even with thlevel of overall increase in general. hopefully it wont go even higher for us to visit more often. but still oveall very good.

This was our first experience and it was a brilliant one! The service and food were equally excellent. Prices were reasonable for this part of town. On leaving a member of staff hailed a taxi for us as it was drizzling. Will definitely come back when we are next in London.

First went to Zafferanos about 20 years ago and have kept going back. Great food and service. I used to go with work when I was at a metals hedge fund that was in Knightsbridge and live fairly close so always try and go to this restaurant.

Overall a very good experience with good food and pleasant ambiance.

Zaffarano’s is a first class restaurant with delicious food served by a multo sympatico team.

I had an outstanding experience at this consistently excellent restaurant. The service was superb from start to finish. We indulged in the prawn tartare and Vitello tonnato, both excellent choices. The pasta with white truffle was the best we’ve ever had, and the classic tiramisu was outstanding. Thanks for a lovely evening; we’ll definitely be back soon!

VERY expensive for the quality of the food . Restaurant much worse then before the offer you a courtesy plate but then they charge for it . Never again , I mist not be the only one ,restaurant was half empty

The prices are typical of this area…eye-watering. Portions are small. The best dish was vitello tonnato but almost £20 for a small starter is an outrageous price. Unfortunately, the service was equally disappointing with smarmy managers and disinterested and uncharming waiting staff. Requests for extra cutlery were unfulfilled, indications that we were ready to order equally ignored. Coats were taken but staff were supremely that a scarf was dragging on the floor - observed but, again, ignored. No-one even bothered to say goodbye. Quite awful.

Dinner here for our daughter's birthday. Service was impeccable. White truffles - very fresh - were featured on many of the specials and we had several dishes with them. Food overall was excellent. Extensive wine list to pick from. Well worth a visit. Easy to reach from the Kensington tube stop and a short walk.

The service is very good, food was very tasty but the portions too small for Itallian food. I had the Spaghetti con vongole and it was amazing.

The vegetable soup was the best I’ve ever had. The risotto was gorgeous. The house wine was lovely.

We have been on the resturant 4 to 5 times for the last many years and love the resturant and food. We felt this time the menu is shorter and the food quality was lower than we are used to. The resturant have extended with an extra room and we was seated there to us it feels like you are separated from the rest of the resturant in that area as you can not follow what is happening around the resturant.

I had not been to Zafferano for several years. I should have know something was wrong when I was able to book a table for Saturday night on the same day. We had two appetizers, two main courses and one dessert. All five were of poor quality. The spaghetti lobster was not fit for human consumption

Food not as good as it was a few years ago I went there last. Wine year did not correspond to the year on the menu - disappointing. Overall, less than I was expecting.

Food was bland. Could not detected any sausage in the sausage and porcinie ravioli and the salmon was underseasoned and bland

Ok food, everything either oversalted or just bland, not the level of Italian food you would expect at that price level. Have been there before and it was much better. Seems to be a bit hit and miss in terms of quality. Service is very good.

Overall a nice place to have dinner, food menu changes from time to time, we’ve had some great dishes and some average dishes in this place, and I've noticed prices have gone up, matching highend mayfair fine dining prices which is a shame as we used to see this place a neighbourhood restaurant whenever we couldnt be bothered to go through the whole mayfair faf . Will I go again: Yes Food : 8/10 Service : 9/10 Value for money: 6/10 Price: £300 for two

A really good Italians restaurant as fine dining should be. Great quality of foods (prawn tartare was special) and good level of service as well. It was an excellent choice for our anniversary and will certainly look to visit again.

I had dinner in June with my friend. The food was absolutely delicious, specially linguine with lobster. The service was brilliant. Dennis was very kind to us and always happy to help.

I had been to the restaurant many years before . It was fine but not as good as I remember and expensive for what it is. Wine in particular was over priced . The one highlight was the lobster linguine

Menu did not have the wow factor for the price! Service was not great, ordered drinks, water came but nothing else for ages, had to remind staff to produce drinks. Our wine was in a bucket with another tables wine. The waiter poured the other tables wine into our glasses, ie topped up with a different wine! We then watched the waiter top up the other table with their wine of which there was very little left! It made us laugh if nothing else! The table was never cleared properly! Inexperienced waiting staff not being watched!

I have been to Zafarano so many times, and it felt very different this time, usually the flavours are spectacular but last night felt very mediocre. The red prawns were bland and the fillet steak overcooked accompanied by boring vegetables. I hope this was a one off as I have been going to Zafarano’s for 20 years and it’s never fail to impress.

They have changed the menu but it was never updated on OpenTable. Moreover, it was weird because when I went there before, there wasn’t any cover charge but I was charged w a cover charge. The zucchini fritter was disappointing because it was all fried and soggy unlike the one from other restaurants like Harry’s and Sa el Pepe. The sea urchin spaghetti had very little sea urchin.

I went to zafferano with same friends to celebrate and we had an amazing night. The food is delicious, specially the Lobster linguine and the tiramisù. Staff really professional, friendly and with a good knowledge of the menu. I will definitely go back

Ristorante situato nella zona ricca della città in prossimità di Hyde Park. il ristorante ha uno stile quasi formale anche se il servizio è un po' caotico. Il menù con molta scelta ed i piatti ben presentati.

We had dinner here last minute as it was the only thing open in the area late. But it was not good. Dry bread, overcooked pasta. The saffron risotto had particular aroma. And everything was overpriced. Should have ordered room service instead.

Good food - flexibility and volume too, wonderful atmosphere, really enjoyed the time. More attention by the waiter would have been better. I am definitely visiting again with my clients.
