Read great reviews of this place so while on a day trip to London decided to pop in for a solo lunch. It wasn’t a great start as I was left standing by the door for 5 minutes while staff rushed by me, no one greeting me. It’s a busy Saturday afternoon at this point so I give it the benefit of the doubt. Eventually I was given a table for one and a menu. A few minutes after I sat down another staff member came over and said he needed to clean the table, which he seemed annoyed about. I said I thought the table had been cleaned as the hostess brought me here but he just snatched the menu out of my hands and cleaned. I tried in vain after this for 20 minutes to order but no one was interested. 2 Parties of 2 entered the Resteraunt after me and were seated either side of me, all having their drinks served and food orders taken while I still hadn’t been offered even a glass of water. After 30 mins of this I got up and left and I doubt anyone noticed. I know it was busy, but I think you should probably refuse extra tables if you can’t accommodate them. I ended up heading to the Ivy where I had a beautiful lunch and was welcomed.

During my time in London, I dined here twice and was impressed both times. The food was exceptional—I had ravioli for my main course, along with mashed potatoes, and started with bruschetta. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a spot I’d highly recommend.

The food and service were incredible. The staff couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a lovely evening. Definitely book because it was busy, but I totally understand why! I will 100% be coming back and bringing everyone I know with me!

Disappointing. I’ve been here a few times over these couple of years and had never been this disappointed. I always had good food here, epspecially the lobster ravioli. However, this time I believed something changed. I ordered the crunchy squid, caesar salad, mushroom risotto, and lobster ravioli. The crunchy squid was amazing, and i enjoyed it very much. Then, the other dishes came and everything went downhill. Firstly, the caesar salad came with grilled chicken that tastes so bitter i almost had to spit it out. The chargrilled part of the chicken was just not right. The rest of the salad was fine. Then, my friend ate the risotto and said it was a bit salty, so i tried it. Oh Jesus. It was the saltiest risotto I have ever eaten (this was without the parmesan on top). We had to return the dish and told the waiter to try it to make sure that we’re all on the same page about the taste. This issue was handled perfectly by the staff, and they took it off the bill for us. Lastly, the ravioli. This was the most disappointing out of all since I looked forward to eating it the most. I am normally not a fan of seafood, but I just loved the creaminess and the taste of the ravioli here. This time, the sauce was watery, the flavour was bland, and everything just didn’t feel right. I called the waiter just to check whether they changed the recipe or the chef. I was told that they didn’t change the chef nor the recipe. Come on! Just look at the pictures and judge for yourselves. I think the difference is quite clear. That’s all from me.

Had a lovely dinner at 40 Dean Street last night. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was generally great. The new waitress was still finding her rhythm, so there were some delays with drink follow-ups, but she was very friendly and charming. Overall, a great experience, and I’d definitely return!

The service is fantastic Christina ( hope i have this right? ) dealt with a small issue perfectly , really appreciated the wonderful service , the risotto was delicious and the cocktails perfect. Our friends very much enjoyed their experience too.When my husband lost his travel card in the restaurant she took the trouble to call us straightaway. We turned up to this cozy Soho restaurant early given the warnings about strict timekeeping and had an absolutely fine time. The menu seems designed to cover all the bases of an Italian restaurant but to their credit it was all done very well. I particularly enjoyed lobster ravioli and the tiramisu - the addition of pistachio to the latter was unnecessary but did not detract from a fine dessert. Good wine and coffee.

I visited this place twice during my stay in London, and the food is so good. For mains, I ordered the ravioli, mashed potatoes, and bruschetta as a starter. Highly recommend this spot. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very cozy.

A little on the pricey side but they did not skimp on anything in my king prawn linguine! There was plenty of prawn and when I asked for bread but was told I would have to get the bread basket (which I turned down), I then was brought a little bit of bread on a plate; just enough for mopping up what was left!

Popped into this lovely restaurant on a theatre trip to London. Really nice atmosphere, delicious food and great service, what’s not to like. We hope to come again on our next visit!

Genuinely surprised how amazing the food was here, visited before the theatre. It was very busy but it didn't phase our servers, we never had to wait long between anything throughout the evening. Water was regularly refilled, the food proportions were excellent and overall quality high so we absolutely will come back

Had an early dinner there by myself before going to The Lyric theatre. Staff were friendly and lovely. Food was delicious. I ate all my favourite things. Sorry I forgot to take photos before I started eating, but hopefully you still get the idea. It was lush!

We were very upset with our visit to this restaurant. We made a reservation a week before and when we arrived, they said they cancelled our booking because we did not answer their call in the morning. When we said that we did not saw their call, they were very rude and did not even apologize for giving our table. We were very disappointed with the staff’s behaviour. We came from abroad and our saturday plans were ruined.

I have never given a restaurant 1 star before but even 1 star is too much for this restaurant. I read in the comments that the food may be good but the staff is very, very rude. My reservation was at 6.30 and when we arrived at the restaurant they said that they canceled our reservation because we did not open their phone in the morning. When I asked if this situation was stated anywhere during the reservation phase, I got the answer no. Although I confirmed that I would come by e-mail and made a reservation through the system, they did not give me and my friend a seat due to overbooking and we came for nothing. The staff is extremely rude and they do not even care about helping. Sorry but do I have to answer a number that I do not know, then why am I making an online reservation?

Just had the most amazing meal at 40 Dean Street! All of the staff were lovely particularly Danny who looked after us so well and recommended some great dishes to start. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more and can’t wait to come back.

We went there because we needed a dog friendly restaurant, however, we found much more than that; excellent food and service, the friendliest staff and a great atmosphere.. I don’t usually review places but I couldn’t help myself in this case!

Delicious food and wine, we felt a little rushed by the server and admittedly we were a large loud group so possibly due to the small restaurant the sound can travel and otherwise was a lot of small tables close together but overall we really enjoyed ourselves and loved the decor and vibe

Back here for our 3rd anniversary and our waiter Danny made it the most special night!!! The personality, the service and the humour made everything 10x more special! We cant wait to spend each and every anniversary going forward here all thanks to Danny! He adds that special touch ! As always the food didnt disappoint and ill highly recommend the lobster ravioli.

This little gem on Dean street is a Must if you require the authentic Italian experience. The table was small and bijou and close to other tables where everyone but this enhanced the experience. Service good and attentive Food was excellent and generous size Wife had the Caesar salad which was tasty , salty and fresh which succulent chicken I had the pork belly with mash and greens which as crunchy and moist with tasty greens Nice place to lunch with a good selection of food and wine

An excellent dinner with fantastic arancini and courgette flower starters followed by delicious risotto and generous belly pork all washed down with a lovely red from Puglia- definitely worth every penny!

Book well in advance on arrival given table right by the door which was cramped against the other table so cold when main door was opened and knocked when people arrived or left. We asked to be moved the lady rolled her eyes and said this is the only table then walked off We left never to return there are other places to spend money

Firstly I have to say eating out at Italian restaurants in London isn’t always for me. Generally I find the food generic and marketed as Italian when it really isn’t or shouldn’t be! Forty Dean Street is officially my favourite Italian restaurant in London. We were a party of 2 who stopped by for lunch. The food is superb and homemade. I opted for the courgette tempura and ricotta to start with which was delicious. The lobster ravioli as a main was to die for. Dessert was the tiramisu which was spectacular (The best part being it was a massive portion) So you knew immediately you were at a family run restaurant and not a chain. The food was complemented by the friendly and engaging staff. The prices are also respectable. The atmosphere was spot on. This was a special treat for my friend and I who even indulged in a few bottles of bubbles. Thank you and cannot wait to come back. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Thank you to all.

My friend and I visited 40 Dean Street last night for dessert and drinks. We were seated, ordered our items, but shortly after, a hostess approached us and insisted we leave the table because we weren't dining for dinner. She offered just 15 minutes to finish our drinks and dessert, making it clear she needed the table back quickly. We were obviously not there to down our wine and dessert so we opted to leave the restaurant and the table and went down the street to another restaurant that was more than happy to accommodate us without all the drama. The hostess's behavior was rude and unprofessional. The tone of her manner made us feel awful and almost like we had to apologise for only wanting dessert and drinks as opposed to a 3 course meal. A colleague of mine, who coincidentally was seated at a nearby table, was shocked by the tone and attitude of the hostess and asked if we could have her table since they had finished! All in all a very unpleasant, non festive experience. The Chrstmas cheer has clearly failed at this restaurant despite all the decor. If all diners have to eat a three course meal maybe this should be clear on the door so that others are not subjected to this awful experience

Despicable owner and awful food.

Quite expensive but the food was delicious, we had three courses and each one was very good. The service was also very good, our server was personable and attentive. I think the bread could have made complimentary rather than £3.50, but on the other hand there was free limoncello with the bill. We made a note that it was a birthday dinner but I suspect that may have missed from the booking - a candle in my cheesecake would have been the cherry on top! Would definitely go back to this restaurant

We had a reservation for our family of 4 at 5:15 this evening we arrive early at 5:04. We were informed on arrival that there “is a problem.” Their license doesn’t permit children to dine after 5 pm and “it is the same for many establishments on the street.” This seems like B.S. to me given the UK’s reputation for family friendly pubs. If this is really the case I would have appreciated being informed of that at the time of booking he reservation. There was nothing out of the ordinary with our party aside from having a well behaved 6 and 9 year old daughter with us.

I ordered the Arancini as a starter. It comes as two pieces. One was warm at best, the second was still frozen on the inside. I informed our waiter who apologised and said he’d bring another portion. I said I didn’t want another portion. He brought it anyway. For my main course I ordered the steak medium rare. It arrived and the vegetables and purée it comes with were stone cold. Again informed the waiter who took my plate away. The meal came back hot but the steak was now medium to well done. We were offered free desserts which we didn’t want so the service charge was removed from our bill. We are not obliged to pay that and there was nothing wrong with the service. It was the food that was awful and we paid full price for it. Won’t be going back.

They initially turned us away as they were fully booked (Sunday evening), but then found us a table for an hour and half, which was fine. The food was excellent. The seating is a bit cramped and it was very noisy.

Food was good, we ordered Lobster Ravioli and pistachio tiramisu which were delicious. Seating space is very less, tables for 2 are congested. You need to be very careful while sitting and getting up that you don’t spill anything on your neighbour’s table! But food wise it is recommended!

Absolutely super Italian restaurant in the heart of Soho. Thoroughly recommended for ambience and menu. You need to book ahead as it’s busy and popular, but worth it! Would recommend the current Milanese which comes with Spaghetti Pomodoro and is delicious. The Affogato a bit overpriced and wished I’d gone for the excellent-looking cheeseboard instead for dessert. Service pretty good seeing as they’re so busy. The whole experience was relaxed but felt a quality experience nonetheless.

This is a lovely restaurant and I was so impressed with the food. Unfortunately it was let down by the rule that you only had 1 hour and 30 minutes to eat. That is actually a very short time if you plan to have starters and desserts as well as a main course. The staff are obviously under pressure to turn around tables and actually came across as quite rude. As soon as we sat down they started the count down and obviously thought we were too slow eating our starters. 2 of us were still eating the starters when they started clearing the table and our mains were being delivered by one waitress as another was cleaning away our starters. We didn’t feel we could stay for dessert. Such a shame as it is a lovely restaurant but we weren’t allowed time to enjoy it

I rarely leave reviews and I especially  rarely leave negative reviews. My reasoning is that when one has a negative experience (and usually rare.. or very very rare in my experience) it may be preferable for all parties to engage directly and/or it might be due to a particular circumstance or some external issue that might impact the operations of a restaurant. But now I leave a review because of a sense of fairness. I don't know why I feel the  need to do this now. Perhaps it because we stupidly cancelled another reservation to come to here or because it was a special occasion and we wanted it to all be well or simply because it was bad bad value for money. I suspect it was probably all three. We arrived and received a poor welcome which was not memorable or anything really of concern other than we note it now in the context of the evening. We were placed at a table that was very close to others and was a little uncomfortable but that was okay. But we noticed other vacant tables which would be more comfortable and asked to be moved.  We were told we couldn't avail of the 'three top' but were given a two top. We were delighted with that. But noted this seemed to be an issue to the lady looking after us. And we definitely noticed upon moving there that our server was even more abrupt and stopped making eye contact. Another server came to take our order and the food and drinks arrived very promptly and everything was fine. So we're sitting there.. Slightly uncomfortable and worried that, t in our bashful ask, we caused an issue. But not only did our vacated table remain empty for the duration of the evening, the 'three top' (we didn't ask for this) only had two people at it and the tables beside us were vacant for the whole of our sitting. But hey... We don't know. So.....couldn't be that.. Right? Asked for the bill... Paid by card. Noticed..then that without our consent, a sizeable tip was included. We're usually big tippers so we're fine with that...but not with this evening. But we sucked it up. But the final punch was when we paid by card... A foreign credit card.. An extra £10 appeared on our bill. We checked our banks and the exchange rate and charges yet, despite this... It appeared an extra amount was added to our bill. Safe to say... We won't be back.. But.. M my.. We were so disappointed. Food was good. Service not.

Must say this was a really great surprise. The food was delicious. The service was excellent small intimate restaurant. Everything they made was good. We had the chicken dish that was really different with spaghetti. The salmon was very good and the salads so good

Shocking attitude from staff. Yes, we arrived 9 minutes late but the front of house said 10 mins ok. They said they were overbooked and our table had gone. No apologies, very dismissive. We booked the table 2 weeks ago and cannot describe how disappointed we were. Extremely poor customer service. No queues outside and empty tables. No doubt the restaurant response will be something smart!!

Lovely restaurant, food was excellent!! Staff were so good, however slightly discourteous to our group as they forgot a couple of things throughout the meal and then were a bit disingenuous about us reminding/asking. Absolutely would recommend anyway though, lovely place to have dinner, just to be aware if going on a busy night!

Food...pretty blah, nothing to pull you back there. Italian bread starter wasn't even served warm, and the texture was like cake. Cocktails ok. Overall...disappointing.

my wife asked if we could have our dog inside... whomever she asked, told her that we can have only outside table. Then, when my wife , son, dog, and I have a 2x tables next to each other with 4 chairs, the whomever came out to ask us to squeeze in a small table which is not suitable for more that ordering drinks. I have challenged him if that suits four of us, and he was rude in his answer... So we walked away and ended up in a fantastic and real dog friendly restaurant .....

We had a really lovely meal here, we were told when we arrived we'd only have an hour and a half (we hadn't booked) on the table. Service was fast and friendly we were served primarily by Hector. The Italian breads starter with oil and vinegar was really nice and tasted high quality. I had the aubergine parmigiana which was delicious and my mum had the mushroom gnocchi which she said she really enjoyed. We'll definitely be back when we're in London again!
