Yu Pan Asian Restaurant in West Berkshire

While the A La Carte menu looked amazing, we opted for the highly affordable £25 lunch menu, of three courses. Also opted for a glass of fizz each. Service was impeccable, and the chef’s sushi started was spicy tuna and prawn hosomaki, impeccable and delicious, with some kind of beautiful green caviar as embellishment. Mains were teriyaki chicken noodles and katsu curry, the former was great and the latter’s sauce was like no katsu I’ve had before, fruity, sweet and spicy at the same time, but no one flavour overpowering. Dessert was doughnuts with Nutella and those little Mochi(?) rice ice cream balls which were both delicious. All in all a great and affordable lunch.

We were very excited about visiting Yu as we love Asian food and the idea of a "pan - Asian" tasting menu was very attractive. It was good, but the bias is very much towards Japan rather than the whole of Asia as the title suggests. So that was a bit of a disappointment but otherwise it was fine. The food is very well executed, pacing is fine - never rushed, but never waiting too long between courses. The wine pairing is good if a bit samey but then as mentioned above there is little variation between the courses the wine is accompanying. Service was friendly and efficient and less pompous than is often the case in higher end restaurants.

The 2 of us thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu, one vegetarian, one meat. All the courses were delicious, the real surprise was the salad which was unbelievably tasty. The staff we perfectly attentive throughout the evening. Definitely a special occasion meal for us, I'm sure we'll be back.

We were staying at the Retreat hotel and spa for two days and booked one meal in the Pan Asian restaurant Yu . It’s a small restaurant but beautifully decorated and good atmosphere. The menu consists of small plates of yummy Japanese style dishes as well as hot dishes and deserts. So pleased we booked here and would definitely recommend. You do not have to be a resident of the hotel to visit .

The restaurant is nice and compact. Rather spoilt by a table of 10 in what should be a intimate restaurant!! My food was good...my sister who is a vegetarian had the tofu....pretty average and too much on the plate for a fancy Japanese Restaurant. Waited ages for one of the sweets and at that time wasn't busy. Could be better with a bit more effort. Also would be good to see the waiting staff dress more traditionally even if its only a nice oriental blouse!!!

The food was amazing, staff very attentive. Lovely setting. The perfect evening. We really enjoyed the 5 course taster menu, everything was wonderful.

What a lovely experience, service was brilliant and the surroundings beautiful! Would definitely come again.

Excellent service Paula was phenomenal. So friendly and helpful. She's impeccable! Food was lovely. Very tasty! Look forward to returning.

We came here after going to the Christmas market, as we have not tried this before but have eaten in the main restaurant few times. Our waitress was Paula and she was very attentive and explained the menus well. We had lovely sushi and small plates of the crispy chilli squid which is always good, popcorn cauliflower and the seaweed salad which was lovely, which I would definitely recommend. Lovely and fresh and it came with a lovely sesame dressing. We will definitely be returning here again.

Warmly welcomed back by Paula - an excellent server, extremely polite and helpful. Food was delicious as always. My only niggle is that there is no central heating and the room was a little chilly!

Had an early dinner at Yu on a Friday night. Warm welcome from Roxy the restaurant manager who showed us our table near the window. Atmosphere is quiet and elegant with lovely views of the grounds outside. Our waitress Paula was very friendly and professional and gave us the details of the specials for the day: a pork dish that was on the tasting menu but also available a main course. We had a sushi roll (salmon and avocado) for starter along with the chili squid (which was outstanding) and the chicken karage. For the mains we shared the aubergine dish and pork belly special paired with a glass of pinot noir. The food was amazing and service was on point, will definitely come back and try the tasting menu.

Loved the food at Yu: we ate there as part of a stay at Elcot Park. The salmon and chicken were delicious, and the cauliflower popcorn was a favourite throughout our trip. The sushi was also great - overall really recommend.
