Party of six … looking for some lunch on a rainy day in Porthmadog. Outside looked modern entered and was like being in a time warp. Place was empty apart from a a family who where leaving before ordering anything… should have taken this as a warning sign. We were immediately told that we could not sit together so given was an empty cafe we chose two tables next to each other, despite the lady stood glumly at the till their was no service which is fine, we ordered from the till….. I’m not sure if this was usual service or they was not keen on English customers as she did become a bit livelier when a Welsh speaking customer arrived! Whilst seated another family walked in and left immediately. Food mediocre at best for the price, a supermarket meal deal would have been nicer! Very strange and unwelcoming atmosphere, so much so it’s difficult to describe as never experience anything like it …AVOID

Appearance from the outside was very nice and clean looking. However, the reception from the staff was very poor and surly. The lady informed us that our party of 7 could not sit at the same table (despite the restaurant being also empty). We ordered at the till after figuring out that it was not waitress service, only to be informed that the kitchen could not handle meals for a party of 7 and needed to be 2 separate orders?! When the food arrived, it was roast dinners with tinned (or frozen) peas and carrots as the veg. Mash tasted like instant and the roasties were cold. The all day breakfast included cheap, tasteless bacon and sausage with over cooked egg. Toast was charged at 90p a slice and was nothing special. Toilets were not clean and had mould. Overall a disappointing experience. There was nothing to recommend about this place.

Wanted to get a spot of lunch so decided to pop in. The comments about it being a time warp are accurate. Very old school. The lady even was happy at me attempting to pay via Apple Watch, probably thinking I was trying to leave without paying. Menu was limited and when we turned up there was a lot on that menu they didn’t have any of. Maybe we just caught them at the wrong time. Put it this way. Coffee options were black, or white. It’s that type of place. Prices were a bit steep for what you got but it filled a hole.

Out for the day in Porthmadog, and saw this little place on the High Street, and popped in for lunch. The layout had been altered for social distancing, and the restaurant is kept very clean, with tables and chairs being cleaned and sanitised after each customer. We ordered a sandwich with salad and chips, followed by desserts. The food is amazing, couldn't fault it.A visit to the loo was also impressive, extremely clean. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and also very helpful.Overall, a lovely visit, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and will definitely visit again.

Prices aside, it’s like going back to the ‘80’s. Service was great - fast and friendly - but the place is in desperate need of renovation. The chairs are absolutely wrecked, the tables are sticky. My son turned the slate coaster over and I inadvertently yelled at him in the same way as I would if he touched a dirty toilet seat. The underside of that coaster is something I never need to see again.Thank god it was ‘eat out to help out’. As it happens, it was a bargain but I would have been devastated if I’d been paying full price. Sandwiches (£7.95 a piece) are served on sliced supermarket bread. Everything else was straight out of the freezer and into the fryer. I find it quite sad that nobody can be arsed to make their own chips anymore. Why not? It’s just lazy! My kids had roast dinner and despite being starving were unable to saw their way through the roast spuds. The meat was out of a vacuum pack - mechanically sliced.£3.70 for a large glass of coke.We didn’t hand around for pudding.I suspect this is a place for old people, very old people.

Was looking at getting some lunch and a drink during these strange times due to Covid. Walked up to door which was open with the open sign on the door and a few people seated inside. Stood waiting at the door for one of the two staff to confirm we could enter and have a table. A male walked to the door, turned the sign to closed and shut the door in my face without saying a word. Could not of missed me as I had to step back for the door to shut. Absolute disgusting. Would never return if they begged me. Reading other reviews since we had a lucky escape. Avoid avoid avoid.

Really sad I have to write such a bad review on New Year’s Eve but I just can’t leave it like that . We had a hungry child with us and found this place on our way . Ordered a full child’s meal and cold drinks for us as we weren’t hungry and we were refused to be served because we’re taking 3 places where some other people could order 3 full meals ... Our daughter was crying all way back , she was so disappointed. It made the whole our Porthmadog experience not a nice one ... :( Avoid this place , very unfriendly and not welcoming one ...

Went in here for lunch, had the roast beef, was ok but but vegetables were re-heats. Waitress didn't even smile. When we went to pay she said they didn't accept Scottish notes aa it wasn't legal tender. She said the bank was closed and no other place would accept them so they get left with alot of Scottish notes they cant use. Hmmm, I think not, every other place accepted them without a second glance and had never heard of such nonsense. Definitely would not recommend.

Well just goes to say that reviews can be wrong. I obviously can only review my visit but I have to say we had a lovely meal. There was nothing wrong with the food and it was served in a timely manner and was hot. Yes it’s not Michelin Star so what some people expect is beyond me. We had the lamb roast and all I can say is it was good honest plate of food which was throughly enjoyed on a wet and windy day The service was also of a high standard and it was very busy the afternoon we were there. That in itself says something if it was that bad why was it so busy

Avoid! Disgusting customer service! One of our meals came out wrong and when we politely mentioned this to the waitress the staff all started talking about us at the back of the restaurant but it could all be heard clearly from where we were sitting and also by the other diners. A woman in the kitchen started moaning and banging things around. I told the waitress that we felt really awkward having to now sit and eat our meal while they were all talking about us, we were extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable . To be honest non of them cared at all, we ate as quickly as we could, paid and left. All in all we spent almost £50 on a meal , that wasn’t that great anyway ( frozen & microwaved ) being made to feel bad for them getting the order wrong. Needless to say we will never return or recommend

Soon the place was packed and customers were being turned away by 1230 because it was full. The lamb soon ran out as many wanted it. The staff were friendly polite and hard working as was the sole lady chef who appreciated our thanks for a lovely meal. One of our group was in a wheel chair which was accommodated easily. The other places in Porthmadog seemed to have stopped serving food at 3pm on a Sunday so we ended up in this place simply because we were so hungry and it offered a roast dinner. As soon as I walked in I smelled my nan's kitchen and sure enough, when the food arrived it was hidden under a pool of packet gravy. The veg was boiled and tasteless and the lamb seemed to come from a vacuum pack. We were warned the plates were too hot to touch, suggesting a microwave had been involved. One of my "roast" potatoes was so tough I couldn't cut through it. All for a tenner a piece. We didn't stay for dessert!

Stopped for a working lunch between meetings today... We were attended to quickly and food arrived promptly. Food was ok, but all we had was a sandwich and chips really, so can't go wrong with that. As we were discussing work matters after finishing eating, we asked for a coffee, to be told the machine had been switched off for the day... (Surely the switch could be flicked to the ON position?). There was no signage that I could see to suggest that it was closing, but the waitress told me that they had closed for the day, and that having a coffee was not an option.

This restaurant looked ok from the outside. It was a bit chilly on the inside. The menu was quite comprehensive, but my choice was "off", so instead of beef casserole, I had warmed up sliced beef. It was served with roast and boiled potatoes, carrots and peas, and 2 small Yorkshire puddings and gravy. For £7.25 it was ok, but a bit like a school dinner or a cafe meal, rather than a restaurant. The glass of red wine I ordered was very nice. My companion had double egg and chips for £6.50 and a pot of tea, which seemed a better choice. It was clean and had plenty of tables. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I think it would be suitable for wheelchair users. I didn't see any high chairs.

This is a cafe on Porthmadoc main shopping street. We needed lunch when passing through and thought this looked OK. It was disappointing. We both had jacket potatoes, one with tuna and one with prawns. Neither had enough filling to cover the potato and, without any butter or anything else, the potato was very dry. The salad was a garnish rather than a real salad accompaniment. At £5 each plus drinks, we had hoped for better (and found afterwards that there were plenty of other cafes on the street that would have served better food for this price).

We decided to have lunch here as it looked inviting from the outside and there were a fair few people inside. Oh what a mistake. We ordered cod and chips and the roast lamb dinner from the specials board. First the fish and chips - frozen fish, typically the reconstituted value kind found in any freezer aisle and frozen chips, bizarrely served with salad. Now the lamb. Remember the frozen beef slices in gravy? Well this was the lamb version. When it arrived we were warned that the plate was hot. Obviously because it had just come out of the microwave having heated the lamb! After leaving we called in at a local butchers and described the lamb and he was adamant that it was in no way fresh lamb as the process required to produce such thin slices was quite intense and not readily achieved in an eating establishment. Finally the drink - £1.50 for a glass of coke that was less than a full can's worth. Definitely wouldn't go back, but then again if they are aiming for the tourist market then repeat business from quality food is not really a priority to them.

First day of half term holidays and decided on a day out. After a walk around this charming town we headed to this restaurant for lunch. We sat at the table and waited for our order to be taken. Only one waitress was working and after 15 minutes of being ignored and watching another couple who arrived after us being served we walked out.

Our second visit to North Wales and we called in again to Yr Wylan as we had such great meals there last year. This year was no exception - different specials each time, very attentive service, food came quickly (we had a lunch and dinner here) and was delicious and the steaks were perfect. Great atmosphere and staff, a very nice experience.

We went as a large family not long before closing time. We were not hurried and enjoyed food that catered for the young ones and the oldies. There was more choice than in other places to eat in the town and the bill was reasonable. The wine list was short but we enjoyed an excellent New Zealand white. Porthmadog doesn't have many choices in the town centre in the evening.

Visited there on 09/08/14 felt a bit peckish so went for a snack at Yr Wylan. I ordered pot of tea, chilli pate with salad and toast, it was excellent, the salad was crispy and very fresh, pate had a great after taste with the chilli. Large pot of hot water with the tea, managed four cups,Partner chose a tuna sandwich and chips also excellent.

Might be a good cafe in the day, but certainly not a restaurant in the evening, no alcohol on draught we had to buy cans...service was poor, we was only told what they had run out of after trying to order, when personally i would explain whilst seating customers..we were not able to order our starters then order our mains a bit later on because i think the chef just wanted to go home....the lamb and beef dinners looked like they were microwave meals from iceland..all in all poor service, mediocre food and overpriced

My partner is diabetic & we needed to eat sooner rather than later. As this looked slightly less 'tired' than any of the other places in this town, we made the mistake of buying lunch. Oh dear! The omelette was definitely one of those frozen "rubber" omelettes that the big frozen food suppliers provide: zap it in the microwave & bung a bit of grated cheese in the middle. It was dressed with a few dull iceberg leaves & tiny quantity of tomato. A prawn jacket potato was similarly uninspiring (and rather watery).Unfortunately the whole experience was like being back in the '70's. The world has moved on, but not here sadly

The appearance of the exterior looking better than a good few of the other properties in the street, we thought the menu looked reasonable and went in. Then we spotted whitebait among the starters and chose that, with roast lamb to follow. The starter comprised a good amount of pleasant salad but only 15 whitebait. Still, you don't get whitebait very often these days, so we made the most of it. The main course, though, was a bit disappointing; the gravy refused to move and we suspected that it, and possibly the vegetables and meat too, might have been there since lunchtime (it was nearly six o'clock when we visited) so we felt it resembled an overpriced school dinner. No complaints with the service; the waitress was pleasant, helpful, polite and speedy. Can't say we would visit it again, but then the whole town seems past its best.

Went here for lunch and had the lasagne, firstly our order was given to another table which they apologised for and gave a complementary coke. When the food came the lasagne was nice but I think the chips were frozen and there was a large side salad. The meal was quite expensive and I thought that for the price I would have at least had homemade chips. Staff were friendly, overall experience was average, properly won't eat again. Not that it was bad just think there is better places to eat in the area.

We booked at the last minute for a nights stay, the room was ok except no soap in the bathroom. The bar and restaurant was closed so we cannot comment. It served its purpose we just needed a bed for the night.

Decent pub but what made it for us was Lewis behind the bar. Played an excellent mix of music and was very engaging with customers including us. Lewis also played a few requests and was very knowledgable music wise - it was great chatting to him about music in general and he was spot on with his recommendation of Imelda May’s cover of the Northern Soul classic Tainted Love (which a certain band from Leeds may have covered early 80s too). Regular live music nights are very busy so while generally dog friendly, probably best to avoid taking the dog on live music nights. Thanks Lewis - your happiness was infectious and you made sure our last night in Aberdyfi spent at The Brit was top!

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. A special thank you to Connor who was fantastic and provided a great service. Recommend the chicken tikka masala and the cheeseburger loaded fries 😍

Stopped for breakfast in the cafe, it was lovely. The small breakfast is big enough for most! Cafe clean, staff friendly and importantly the toilets were very clean. Highly recommended 👍
