My husband and I ordered a full English breakfast, the tea and coffee came first, the waitress/ owner just plonked the tray on the table and looked as if she didn’t want to be there. The toast arrived on one plate, we couldn’t butter it as we had no side plates or knives. Ten minutes later the breakfast arrived. By now the toast was cold and inedible. The fried eggs were like bullets not runny, the sausages, bacon, fried bread and mushrooms were so greasy. Baked beans were ok. We weren’t offered any sauces so had to ask for them and they came just as we were finishing. We really wanted to leave and not pay but as there were a few others in the cafe we didn’t want to cause a scene. We both went to the toilet, no lock on the door and it was really dirty and unkempt. We will never go back to this cafe again!

Four of us had a big breakfast and not one of us finished it! It was mostly deep fried and the cheapest of sausages I’ve ever tasted it has laid that heavy on my stomach I’ve been sick. We waited almost an hour for it and then a further 10 mins for sauce and toast of which was cold, the woman working seemed to be on her own bar a young boy and was very busy so I understand the slow service but the quality of food was poor I will say the coffee was lovely though.

Anyway...it was a good thing as this place is a Gem! Skip the pretentious Talbot and go here instead for excellent home cooked food and great staff. Thank you

Went there for breakfast, wasnt good at all. My breakfast had 1 egg overcooked 1 egg undercooked, deep fryed cheapest sausages, vey oily fried bread, tinned plum tomato luke warm. Its fine if you want a cheap and oily breakfast. Tomato sauce tastes like pure vinegar. Coffee and tea was nice :) we were served by lovely waitress. Would not recommend or return.

Called in for lunch on a rather wet Tuesday. My meal was I thought good value and tasty, my wife was a little less fortunate being vegetarian! Despite claiming to be vegetarian friendly, she didn't feel it was. There was very little choice, and the omelette she had was rather dry and over cooked. Uncertain as to whether the chips were cooked in dripping or oil! They tasted OK though. The waitress was quite helpful and friendly, but service was very slow at times. What we didn't realise until afterwards was the hygiene rating by FSA of only 2!! Had we known this (improvement required) we would have walked on by. This for us was quite a big negative.

The nearest parking is back up the hill or in Morrison's supermarket so not good for people who can't walk far. Tea was very hot and a pot served two of us very well. Traditional china cups. The cakes were all pre cut and wrapped in cling film and therefore didn't look that appealing. I therefore went for the treacle pudding with custard (home made) which was excellent! My partner had jam roly poly which she said was good too. A real shame though when it is a tea shop. I expect to have cakes on a counter, not wrapped in cling film. Service was fine and was good value. Only tiny so in height of the season you may find it full.

Called here for our lunch yesterday on our way home to Sheffield. We couldn't fault it we both had the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding ,roast and new potatoes, cabbage, carrots , broccoli and cauliflower cheese all fresh and nicely presented. With a very tasty gravy boat. All for £7.50 !! My husband had jam folly Polly and custard but I explained to the lovely waitress I was sadly to full to partake. She kindly brought two spoons ( much to my husband's dismay) It was very tasty. Three other customers were having the full English which also looked very appetising. A real gem of a place .Will certainly be using again. Thank you to the cheff and waitress.

Called in en route to Filey for breakfast (more like brunch by the time we arrived). This is a quirky little cafe with interesting interior decoration. The service was very good, though it wasn't busy when we went, and the breakfast was reasonably priced and very tasty. My only quibble is that there is little flexibility with the English breakfast: I dislike baked beans but was not offered an alternative, e.g. an extra egg. In all other respects it was a very enjoyable experience and I will definitely call again if in that neck of the woods.

This cafe came up on a tripadvisor search engine for gluten free Breakfast places. Unfortunately it was not a good choice. We were told there was no gluten free bread or options after explaining two of our party were coeliac. Nevertheless my friends manfully ordered what they could from their breakfast menu telling the waitress no toast, sausage etc. The waitress repeated the order and all seemed plain but proceeded to bring one of the meals with fried bread. When told she couldn't eat that they took it away and removed the bread leaving behind small pieces under the other items. This would have made my niece very ill so I returned the meal asking for a replacement and was told we should have said when we ordered it! We had only said no toast??? I suggest that the cook and waiting staff require more training with regard to food allergies and the fact that toast, bread and fried bread all contain gluten which I assumed would be blindingly obvious in this day and age.

Called in here on a wet Sunday for lunch. My friend and I both chose the roast beef dinner. I would have knocked a star off for the very long wait but they were full so very busy. I am really fussy with meat and asked if it was well cooked. It was and it was delicious. Fell to pieces just as I would cook it. As a bonus the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were home made and the vegetables cooked properly, not hard and crunchy which I hate. Extra beef gravy too. I would say this rates as one of the top Sunday lunches ever.

We visited here for lunch. I had the pepperoni, mozzarella and pizza sauce panini. It was more expensive than the toasties, however it was actually smaller! It was, however, very tasty and slightly different to the other panini choices. The staff were friendly, and the service was quick. The toilets are upstairs, down a strange corridor. It feels like you shouldn’t be there! The restaurant/café was busy. Clearly a popular choice amongst the locals.

Used to pop in here for breakfast and occasional tea time treat on days out a few years ago so decided to pop in on the way to a long weekend away. It was very busy but quite shabby and I wished that we had taken advantage of quite a pleasant courtyard. We sat down for quite a while before we were even acknowledged. Service was slow but coffee was ok. We went for the English breakfast. Wasn't bad but that's about the best that I can say. Read the other reviews and maybe we were unlucky but won't be going back to find out. Far better places to go to in what is a "foody" town.

Visited about 4 years ago and said I would not return, however in Malton earlier this week when it started to rain so dashed into the nearest venue, sadly the so called Yorkshire Tea Rooms. Seating was shabby, stained and had dirt on the seat. Carpets hadn't been properly cleaned for years. Vacuuming alone does not remove ingrained dirt. My chicken curry had lovely large firm pieces of well cooked chicken covered with a curry coloured sauce. I don't need my curry to be too hot but this did not taste of curry. Lacked any seasoning and certainly no spices. Very disappointing. My wife had ham, egg, chips and peas which she was very happy with. At the end of the meal I had the misfortune to use the toilet. On lifting the seat there was a ring of faeces around the inner edge that had clearly been there for some time. Unbelievable. This venue must be bad as this is the first time I have had to write such a damning review. This place should be closed down.

I visited this tea room today with my son and was horrified to see the waitress in dirty clothes, wiping her nose on her hands before handing out cups with her hands over the mouth piece area. The food was too small in portion, having our meat cut wafer thin, two sprouts, three pieces of carrot and a fork full of cabbage served separate to a burnt yorkshire pudding small in size with lumpy cold gravy. Time delay between drink to food was 40 minutes and a waste of £20.Extreme poor hygeine to find the serviette with knife and fork pre-stained from another guest and I urge it be closed down. Zero out of ten for wiping your nose on your hand before touching cups put down hands over rim - DISCUSTING.

Beautiful sunny day, thought how nice it would be to sit outside in a pretty English garden setting, but wasn't prepared for the garden we saw !! Definitely lacking in flowers !! Decided to eat inside. Only had coffee and scone, jam and butter and a toasted tea cake which was very nice, but if you are passing and think you are going to be sitting amongst the roses you will be disappointed. The garden furniture didn't look very inviting either, looked very cobwebby. No one sitting outside and so busy inside that I think you could have sat there all day waiting to be served.

Often call in on local cycle rides. Visited with my wife on this occasion, and we found that the pavement area where we usually park & lock our bikes, to keep an eye on them from inside, is now taken up with some pavement seating. Three other prospective cycle customers could not find secure parking and moved on.There is a rear tea garden adjacent to a side alley but it seems to be fenced off there, and only accessible from inside the cafe. The proprietors might like to consider attracting more cyclists trade, particularly in the wake of the Tour de France, by creating a side entrance to the tea garden which could be opened as neccessary for cyclists to park in that area and take refreshment, in the confident knowledge that their expensive bikes are secure. We sat just inside the main door, which unfortunately seemed not to easily latch nor has a damper closing mechanism. So sometimes it drifted open and let in fumes from the busy road outside. Some customers managed to close it with an almighty crash! The proprietor seems to have employed some very talkative staff, as their was a constant loud dialogue between the servery and the cook in the rear kitchen, which could be disruptive to customers at that end of the room. The food was excellent, and fuelled us for the next stage of our ride.

Called in for a breakfast one Sunday morning, it was passable, the sausages were not pork sausage but cheap bread type sausage whilst okay, it is not the cheapest breakfast for cheap sausages, rest ok, fried bread offered as standard and therefore greasy, would pass next time, toilets were a trek away and not that great either.

We stopped off in Malton on our way home from a few days in Goathland....it was a bitterly cold day but we were met with a lovely warm welcome by the lady who later took our order. She was so pleasant, friendly and polite... Very spacious tea rooms, real fire was lit in the old hearth, looked so cosy. I had the roast beef dinner and I have to say it is many a year since I tasted cooking like this... steaming hot, home cooked, PROPER food...the puddings are old fashioned and blinking good!! and the prices are more than reasonable....The only gripe I do have..and it's just a tiny one at that....is that the wc which is upstairs is absolutely freezing!! It's a very old building and although extremely clean throughout....it does show it's age in parts.but as I say, I'm nit-picking really ...............it is worth mentioning that payment by cards is not accepted ( just incase you pop in without cash in your pocket ;)....)

Always a lovely friendly atmosphere, well presented and tasty food. This has quickly become our local as all the staff are really cheerful and nice. Great for lunch or dinner. Jackie's cakes are delicious and the ice-cream parlour is a lovely addition to Malton.

I shouldn't but I really like this place. It's a little grubby, the staff can be a touch brash and the tables a little sticky but you know what for a solid full English breakfast for the morning after it's really hard to beat.My main gripe for here for years wasn't anything to do with the food it was the lack of ANY 3G data and the WiFi to compensate but they've now fixed this by finally introducing WiFi :-)Strongly recommended for a solid full English with hash browns, black pudding and the required fried bread.

After stopping for a bite to eat in Malton on our way to Whitby for the weekend we stumbled upon the Yorkshire Tea Rooms, Malton. A quaint little café with friendly welcoming staff with a good selection of good honest food. I ordered a traditional full English breakfast at a bargain price. No criticisms at all on the breakfast, it was good quality, hot and with plenty of taste. The portion size was just right and the bacon v. tasty. Set me up for the remainder of the journey..thank you Yorkshire Tea Rooms.

The food was well cooked and came with two types of potatoes, and plenty of veg including cauliflower & cheese.

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
