Very overpriced for the portions, and on top of that they add sneaky service charges. Found myself paying £27 for a piece of toast with some chicken on it and a pint, felt ripped off completely. While the food is nice, there are plenty of other better options in the city centre.

I had a latte (£4) and the korean egg drop sandwich (£10) with avocado (instead of bacon). The latte was great, incredible texture and exceptional taste. No complaints there except that the latte is 10oz and priced close to lattes in London Mayfair. Not sure how they arrived to that price, bigger margins? I underestimated the size of the sandwich, it was quite fulfilling. Definitely properly fueled my backpacking tour in Birmingham for the whole day. The idea of using a shukopan (over e.g. sourdough) was an interesting one. The flavour was delicious but I felt like it could use a bit more range (yes, I'm asian). Peeking at the other tables, all the food that arrive looks absolutely stunning. Atmosphere was great, feels like a good place to do work or have meetings. Overall, would come back next time I'm in Birm.

Lovely spot for a hot drink or a quick bite. We visited on Saturday morning for a light breakfast. Their sourdough with a choice of spreads was tasty - we each got to try a combo of spreads with our sourdough (peanut butter & Jam and peanut butter and honey. Items and reasonably priced. We were lucky to get a table quickly and staff were friendly and attentive. It does get very busy here as it is a small establishment.

POOR EMPLOYER ETHICS Worked a trial shift here a few years ago, was given the job, but refused to accept the offer because of how ridiculously low the wage was (age minimum, for such an incredibly busy branch this is poor ethics). I was promised I would be paid for the busy Saturday shift regardless (I had 8 years of barista/restaurant experience) but after many back and forths with the manager at the time - who had even asked for my bank details, they stopped responding to me. I was never paid, and considering they promised in writing, this is criminal. I was young and unconfident and let it go. What a mistake to let myself be screwed over. Never eating here, and just remember that the overpriced hipster eggs come at the cost of employee's rights. Everybody there was overworked and they only retain staff on the basis of the 'i work in a hipster coffee shop' identity.

The Moroccan avocado on toast was very yummy, I would recommend it highly. The spiced chocolate was excellent but it was cold when it arrrived.I didnt send it back because I didnt mind but for the price I might have expected it to be hot? The decor is a stylish mix of industrial with wood touches. The toilet though was clean but looks as if it was added as an afterthought. We came on a Thursday at 3pm but the waitress started to pack up the signage and clear the tables before 4pm because we were the only ones left. They even rolled the large brown plastic garbage bin out past our table while we were still eating. It was only 4pm but we got the impression that it was our time to leave.I hadn't seen my friend for a year and we wanted to relax but we weren't welcome here. Like others I was travelling through Birmingham and Yorks appears to be the best coffee shop near New St Station. I just had coffee and toast and the flat white was excellent. My toast however was toasted in one side and dipped in oil/melted butter which is a pet hate of mine. What’s wrong with adding a little pat of butter on the side. Horrible oily barely toasted sliced sourdough from a packet rather than a real loaf. Although I was given a menu after waiting for ages in front of a staff member, I got up to order st the counter, only to be told orders are taken at the table!!! I would certainly grab a hot or cold drink to take away but dining in for simple stuff isn’t great!

Me and my wife went for breakfast and got a breakfast sandwich each, the bread was extremely dry and tasted and felt stale. We paid £7.5 for these sandwiches and the amount of filling we got was saddening considering what we paid, you can only get one filling so it's either sausage or bacon you can't have both unless you pay extra. Our drinks were also a bit pricey with a single orange juice costing £3 and it was less than half a pint. The seating we were given was extremely uncomfortable for my wife as we were between two high tables with little room meaning our backs were against other customer backs which made my wife feel uncomfortable. Overall it was the worst experience and there are many other cafes in Birmingham where you can get better food for a better price such as Wayland's Yard.

I hate to be this person, but this mornings experience at Yorks wasn’t great, and it has been sat with me all day, so much so that I need to address it. Me and my partner have been customers of Yorks for years, and usually, we always love our experience with you. Coffee is always beautiful, food always yummy, and customer service is usually top-notch. Today however, we visited Yorks for a late breakfast, and up until paying, everything was great. When we got up to leave and pay, I asked the woman behind the counter “do you accept cash?”, as I know that some establishments no longer do. After I asked, her attitude changed and she became noticeably frustrated at my question. Her response was “ugh, we can do, if you have the right amount.” I then showed her what cash I had and she took it from me in silence, cashed it in the till, gave me my change (which was around £3) and then walked off without saying a word. I then stood there for a moment feeling incredibly awkward and guilty, when all I wanted to do was pay my bill? I’d have rather she’d said “we don’t have enough change, would you mind paying on card?” To which I would have understood and happily paid by card. But no, instead I got this weird, irritated response and then after I paid, not even a goodbye or thanks for coming. Honestly, don’t think we’ll be returning here for a while. It’s sad, but that one awkward experience had definitely put me off going back. If you don’t want to take cash, just don’t take cash? BUT I must admit, the food and coffee was really good as per usual!

Within an hour there were people waiting for seats to become available. We ordered a turmeric tea and a hot chocolate. Both drinks were brought to the table quickly. The hot chocolate was warm, wouldn't say it was hot. Thought the drinks were a little pricey (£9.50 in total) considering the size. Relaxed vibe and super friendly and quick service. Vegan options were a bit mixed: great selection of cakes and bakes, but the dine-in meal options were uninspired and a bit lacking - I ended up just having a bowl of chips, but they were good chips I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ The main thing for me though is that, especially given it's a speciality coffee roastery, I was expecting to enjoy a good quality coffee - but I was quite disappointed with the over-extracted sour espresso in the drink I was served.

Brunch is a popular restaurant in Birmingham. The red exterior wall is very conspicuous at the corner of the block. I went at the right time, so I didn't have to wait in line for a seat. I sat down directly. After about ten minutes, it was full of people and I had to wait in line for a seat. The signature Yorks house breakfast has quite a variety of combinations. The sausages are a bit salty, but the rest is to my liking. In addition, it is not the British standard hash browns, but potatoes fried into meatballs. Eat the Bacon Eggs Benedict while it's hot, otherwise the sauce will be too greasy. The orange juice is bottled and is a bit sour, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Overall it's okay, especially when the sun is out, it's nice to sit by the window and have brunch in the sun.

They do £1 refills on filter coffee which is pretty good if you’re there working for a few hours . The food is pretty consistent here and good brunch. I see the vision with the butter chicken French toast but I wish they’d bring back the old Fried chicken French toast with chillis and Japanese mayo so baddd. Can’t they bring that one back alongside the butter chicken one? First off, I have no complaints about the food (which was good) or the staff (who were helpful) The problem is the menu design and the way it is unusable for the visually impaired. The font is small and the description of the dishes is very faint. Had I been on my own I would have been in unable to order The really hard thing to take here is that it is so easy to fix, given 30 seconds of thought. Hold some large print versions. Considering York’s is one of the top rated coffee shops in Birmingham, I was very disappointed when they under extracted our coffees!! Sour tasting espresso from a famous coffee roaster!!!! To make matters worse, the service I received from the manager was just blatantly rude. Not an ounce of good customer service in him. He opened up the shop late, then proceeded to bring out a-boards. I asked him if he was ready, he said yes, so I assumed he meant he was ready for customers, so I proceed to walk in. I then get greeted to another a-board being shoved in my face, and get pushed out the way at the door. He didn’t say sorry, he proceeded to be sarcastic and rude. I eventually walk in and order my coffee for takeaway. I was hoping to order some pastries too, but I was told they had just been put in the oven. If you are opening at 8:30am, why only start cooking your food at 8:30am. In summary, poor quality coffee, awful customer service, abhorrent atmosphere. AVOID!

Too greasy for our liking. We ordered two dishes, the house breakfast and the two chicken stuff, drawn by numerous positive online reviews to this restaurant. However, upon arrival, we were informed that the menu had changed, leaving us to navigate a new menu and new prices. The house breakfast (15£) featured toast so thinly sliced and deep-fried it resembled croutons more than bread. Unlike most other places, the sausage was overly soft, lacking in texture. The mushrooms and bacon were unremarkable, though the poached egg was delightful. It was disappointing to find only one enjoyable element in the dish. The 'two chicken' (14£) was overwhelmingly greasy. The thick toast was drenched in oil, making each bite akin to swallowing oil, and the chicken's thick batter encased dry meat, with the dipping sauce doing little to cut through the grease. The only saving grace was the refreshing pickles. On the bright side, the drinks met our expectations, with both the chai latte and flat white being satisfactory. The location is convenient and the decor pleasing. However, for those seeking a tasty brunch or mindful of their diet, I wouldn't recommend this place.

I needed a place to work in Birmingham and Yorks was perfect. I was able to set up a computer, drink a delicious flat white and nibble on a banana muffin without any problem. Staff seemed really friendly and it's well located, just by Birmingham New Street station.

Food wasn't that good, disappointed! Our food was warm & not hot ! I ordered 2 poached eggs on 1 very small piece of sourbread toast with 2 tiny pieces bacon and my husband had mushrooms on 1 piece of sourbread toast and 2 hot drinks. I ordered a cappuccino - and it tasted, like a flat white. The cup size seemed small for a regular size. And a large cup of Mocha, that my husband had, was only medium sized. Not worth the money, we paid ! They also take payment right after ordering and before receiving drinks, which I thought odd ? Maybe it's that way, but anyway it did seem a bit like mistrust. I was one, who felt robbed !

Unbelievable breakfast been here a few times now can't fault to food and the drinks, only thing I will say is it's on the little expensive side, but you get what you pay for. Will definitely be going again.

Food was alright. I had the Arabian buttered eggs which were very tasty but the portion was small for the price. My dad had the full English and he commented that overall it was decent but it seemed like cheap sausage and the bacon was overcooked. I don't know if this is a Birmingham thing but to take payment right after ordering and before receiving drinks even was weird to me. Maybe it's that way because people pop in mostly before getting a train so it ensures they can just leave when they're finished? But anyway it did seem a bit like mistrust, they asked my dad if he wanted milk or sugar with his coffee and he requested milk, he had to go up to the bar to chase this as it was never brought over but as soon as I ordered an extra orange juice they were over in .5 of a second to take the payment. I'm not going to run off! Overall it was ok but would try elsewhere in the area before returning

I was in Birmingham for a City break with a friend and we discover York’s on google when we arrived at the Train station. Last Sunday we were starving after our journey coming from London so we decided to have a brunch. The cafe was very busy but we didn’t have to wait long to get a table, we ordered a Yorks House Breakfast which was so delicious, Fried chicken & French Toast with a beautiful sauce on the side and the Masala fries which were very tasty. Staff was really lovely and friendly. Also great coffee selection and perfect atmosphere for a Café. We went back again for more coffee and Avocado smashed and Feta cheeses on Toast, so yummy! Probably one of my favourite cafes ever!

Went in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had the English breakfast plate for £15 and it was nice and filling. I am glad the people next to me chose the avocado on toast as I found the quantity of that very mimimal for over £9 which is why I took as star off. The hot chocolate was £5.50 and was probably the best I have had in ages! Nice waitresses. Clean toilets. Nice and warm inside. I did get a bit annoyed as there were small flies over my table and I had to keep trying to get them away from my food.

First time visiting Birmingham and this is hands down the best place around for brunch. I had the butter chicken with French toast and wow... never had a better breakfast in my life. Amazing atmosphere with friendly atmosphere. I am gutted that I don't live nearby so that I could come back regularly. Compliments to the chef, brilliant food and warm establishment.

My friend and I arrived at 10.15. We ordered breakfast which took about 20 minutes to arrive. After breakfast we both ordered another dish because we enjoyed the food, and we ordered a second round of coffee, and I had a pot of tea. After about 10 minutes we were asked if we wanted to order anything else, but we said no because we were still eating and drinking and literally our food had arrived 10 minutes ago. After 5 minutes we were told we needed to leave because people were waiting for tables, BUT WE WERE STILL DRINKING OUR COFFEE. WE WERE STILL EATING AND DRINKING!!!!!! This was at 11:10 so we hadnt even veen there for an hour. Yorks had about 60 quid from us and seemingly wanted to boot us out, even though there were only 2 of us and we were on a 2 person table. The food is nice but overpriced, the service is rude, it thinks its trendy because its made of wood and pipes and dangling lighbulbs, there is only one toilet which smells and there is always a queue for (dont sit newr the toilet youll have people queueing next to you the whole time) and they refuse cash. You can't pay cash. They don't accept actual money. Honestly the worst experience I've had for ages. Get lost Yorks, what a lame way to treat customers.

Nice place and and the service was good, but the coffee wasn't right. It was sour, so I'd guess it was insufficiency roasted or perhaps under extracted.
