The Actress & Bishop in Birmingham

Good vibe for a night out. Music was nice and place crowded without being overcrowded. Been here many times and I'll keep going.

Actress & Bishop is a bar nightspot with a dancefloor and loud music playing over the speakers. The music can be pretty good, the selection of drinks is quite nice and the outdoor smoking terrace is lovely. If you don’t fancy a dance, seating can be a bit tight, and you do get some strange ones in here but other than that i would recommend.

We walked in for a couple drinks. They had a speed quiz on which seemed like a lot of fun. The quiz host was very funny and entertaining. A pint of Staropramen was reasonably priced and the lad that served us was very friendly. Looking forward to going in there again.

I have mainly attended the Actress and Bishop over the years late at night, however, I have also taken my laptop and had a drink during the day in the past on the odd occasion. Staff are always friendly and I usually have a pint of Staropramen.

Great DJ when we were there on February 22nd. Gladly again

Entró justo después de las 5 pm para una copa y el lugar fue embestido solo 20 minutos después, lo que demuestra que este es un buen lugar! Parece que hacen mucha música en vivo y concursos y noches de juegos y me entristece no ser local, ya que estaría allí como un tiro, pero vivo en Shropshire, así que no soy local. Si lo fuera, estaría allí. Parece un gran lugar para reunirse en el centro de Birmingham, aunque simplemente situado muy bien entre la iglesia y las calles principales del centro, así que está perfectamente situado!

Service was good, bouncer very rude, slammed the door behind us as we were stood by the door ready to leave just finishing off drinks. Shame. Not returning. security on the door was nasty through the way he spoke to us.

Service was fine, great atmosphere. However, the door staff were extremely rude and I was treated and spoken to like a child. This was my second visit and I will not be returning, I would highly recommend other places like Button factory, rolling mill, The church.

Been here a few times for a pint or two, however the bouncer on the door was unnecessarily rude last Saturday! Have always taken my pint outside to the smoking area with me in the past but yesterday I was met with a passive aggressive bouncer saying 'its not rocket science, you can't take your glass outside' absolutely no need for the rude comment when I had only just been there for about ten minutes. Will not be returning now.

Went to see a band here this evening. Myself and the rest of the audience had paid £15 to see the band in the upstairs room and all we could hear over the live band was the music/bass from the downstairs bar. Absolutely no respect for the band playing upstairs. The band and the audience even commented on how ridiculous the level of bass from downstairs was in the upstairs room. Especially during the acoustic sections of the performance. I actually mentioned the issue to the upstairs bar staff, and it felt like it got louder thereafter. Shocking on behalf of a venue which prides itself on being a live music venue.

My favourite bar in Birmingham, a really unique spot inside a building with lots of history. Drinks prices are fairly reasonable and the music is always top class. It attracts a pretty diverse crowd, young and old. And there's a great outdoor seating and smoking area.

Really lovely pub. Beautiful decor and nice atmosphere. Shame the staff are forced to eat on their dinner break whilst at the bar though. Felt guilt interrupting them to get a beer which I shouldn't have to feel in a pub.

Gem of a place! Beautiful aesthetics, very friendly staff and a brilliant range of decently priced drinks (for Birmingham!) didn't eat here so haven't rated the food but I fully intend to come back to try it out! ☺️

Visited on 7/12/24 with work colleagues. A busy place, good selection of beers and spirits. Band was excellent and the atmosphere was good!

The place is incredible. We went in search of good music and a good atmosphere and without a doubt we found it.

Great place for a few beers and music . They do have live bands on and a Dj but not every night . Staff very friendly and the bouncers on the door . Toilets ok . Felt safe. As any issues the bouncers dealt with it . Seating outside . There is an upstairs but never went as there was a private party going on . Can’t give an opinion on food as didn’t have any . Yes I would go there again . Plenty of restaurants and a few pubs on the same road . 4 beers cost £28 . They did have a few offers on shots , and cocktails. You can park outside on road but not many spaces . Taxis were easy to get and only took a few minutes.

I've never eaten here. Went with a friend, great place for a dancer, even if the dance floor isn't too big. In St Pauls, so great option if you want more vibes and late time drinks.😁

Late night bar. Good fun when you need somewhere to go after the normal pubs have called time. Open Mic night was good.

Watched a great Ska band, which was free! Excellent service, great vibes.

It is a small place but nice inside, which looks to have live music on fairly regularly. Good outside seating area, which is fully covered, and I think I saw heaters. It was a well-kept place that had a nice, friendly, and welcoming person behind the bar.

Tengo una licencia SIA desde hace 20 años. Tienes que hacer mucho y pagar mucho para obtener esta licencia. Estaba horrorizado y disgustado al ver a 2 porteros en este establecimiento NO exhibir sus licencias correctamente. Ambos estaban de atrás hacia adelante. Se supone que debes mostrar tu fotografía y nombre. Me hizo preguntarme. ¿Estas personas eran porteros legítimos y con licencia? También fumar y concentrarse en el teléfono mientras está de servicio es un delito que se puede despedir. Estaría muy preocupado y profundamente insatisfecho si yo fuera el que pagara por este servicio. Incompetente. ¿Seguridad pública? Vaya broma.

Love this place for the music. The atmosphere when a band is on is excellent, and they have a great selection of musicians. I've never eaten here though so I can't comment on the food. The beer hasn't got the best choices, but what they do have is well kept and of good quality.

Had an amazing time here watching England at the Euros. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and cheap cocktails - couldn't ask for more!

We've been using the upstairs room over the last couple of months for business functions... for a staff get together and also for seminars. Could not recommend more highly. The staff are all brilliant - extremely helpful, communicative and friendly. Selina's buffet's have been an absolute highlight for all the attendees (in fact so good we also used for another event in our office). Thank you all!

The bouncer was uneccessarily aggressive and removed us from the premises for thinking that we were a crowd that ‘pushed him’. Did not listen to us when trying to explain he was mistaken and used undue physical force when taking us out. Extremely unfriendly and hostile. I will never be coming to this place again. Nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone for the attitude of the bouncers was utterly disgraceful. Save yourself your Saturday night.

Vino aquí de regreso a nuestro hotel para tomar una copa. El lugar todavía estaba ocupado con un gran ambiente. Bebidas compradas nos sentamos y vimos la diversión. Amigable con la seguridad, amable con el personal y las bebidas buenas. El lugar en sí también es genial, con un montón de asientos y todo en un espacio bastante individual.

Great Monday night quiz, loads of fun

Visited on the Saturday 20/01/24 So me and my friends stopped off here to have a couple of drinks as we had a meal booked at the Italian round the corner( Pasta di pizza). However, i would not advice to drink here. I ordered a double Bacardi and lemonade. The youngish bartender placed the drinks down and the lady stood next to me told me to try it and she asked if it tasted off and i agreed as she had the same issue, i told him about this, explaining that that's not lemonade and it tasted funny. Another member of staff came at that time as the woman had informed another member of staff and they were told the gas was out for the fizzy drinks, the guy basically told me that's what it is have to deal with it. I asked for a 20% discount ( in my opinion is fair as i could suck it up and drink it) but he wouldn't honour it so he poured the whole drink away and got me the spirit again and a small bottle of ginger ale ( which i asked for- i presumed was a replacement at same cost!! as that what he was eluding too when we said we have bottles) but no the charge was extra for the bottle and the spirit. 20 mins later my mate was buying my round as i had bought him a pint in the last one. The same server spoke to my mate and he ordered 2 double vodka cokes. The bartender did not inform him that the gas was still not working and the drinks came out exactly the same , weird tasting. my mate complained again so the bartender chucked the drinks away and poured them again and gave us a bottle of small coke - but he also charged for the bottle too so it came to 19.95 ( approx) for 2 double vodka cokes - very expensive! Considering that the drinks are so expensive and he was reluctant to give me 20% discount he had no issue with chucking all the product away. it seemed like he was purposely try to be funny or this is what management have told him. but making customers pay more for the fault of the bar is not a place i like to drink- or better yet not explaining and apologizing that this is the situation.

Absolutely terrible place, I would never go there ever again. The landlord is a miserable man who is only interested in himself.

Came here at 9pm with some friends, paid 5.6£ for a Guinness, dj was playing very loud music and could not have a conversation with my friends, do not recommend in the evening

Did not eat here so cannot rate the food. Great friendly service. Visited for a music event in upstairs room. Lovely venue. Beautifully decorated for Christmas still. Great atmosphere. Great evening.

Dancefloor packed on weekends, you'd have to wait a while to be staffed. Doormen are always on point. Outdoor smoking shelter is a good spot to meet randoms. I would reconmend a friendship group hangout spot vibe going on. Finished work hang out with colleagues is often a reason to be located not too far from the city but far enough to breathe easy.

The best place in the area to just grab a drink rather than the other food based places nearby.

Went to watch sound of the sirens great gig nice venue. I do have one gripe aboit the noise from the band and music from the lower room. Might be best to check that nothing is on to fully enjoy a gig.

Paid good money to see the Sound of the Sirens at this venue. The venue management are clueless they had the house band playing very loud downstairs with the Sirens upstairs, why would they do that??? Fortunately the girls were able to play above the "covers" coming from below. Note to manager, don't have a house band playing when you have professional musicians, very inconsiderate and unprofessional

Hate that I have to write this, what a place this was in the past, and don’t get me wrong could still be the same place. Unfortunately it’s not, 40 minutes to get served, security staff all joking about it! What was a great place has quickly turned into a regular town pub, avoid at all costs

Good to see this place getting back to its heyday best with some very good live music, well priced drinks and good atmosphere.

Great place for live music, reasonably priced for Birmingham and friendly service. However the amenities need work. One WC stall in the mens room and there's no lock on the door. I had to hold door shut whilst sitting and then TWICE got hit in the face with the door whilst standing and adjusting my clothing ! ONE bolt is all that is required!

Nice Pub and Overall Atmosphere

Very nice venue and atmosphere. The toilets ran out of toilet roll which is bad when it was a busy night. We watched a great selection of songs by Carl sinclair and Harry Weston. First time there and impressed at the decor. Would have liked to see a picture showing previous use in history as a jewellery shop.
