Avoid! The portions are the smallest I have ever had in a Chinese restaurant. Pricey too. As if that’s not enough when I said this , nicely, to the waitor, his response was quite terrible, even telling my friend to “ shut up “. Awful experience

The food was very good, but the portions were small. There were only two staff working, so the service was a bit slow, (as a lot of people came in at the same time), but worth waiting for delicious!

I have just eaten a quarter of what I can honestly say is the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had. I like Lemon Chicken and Special Fried Rice. As you do. Been in Muswell Hill nearly 30 years. What I got was an aniseed/liquorice tasting slime of what I'm not sure was chicken and the Special Fried Rice was a sludge of white rice with a few miniscule prawns. I am really not a writer of bad reviews and intending to cause harm or offence but if Yien continue to serve food like this, word will quickly spread and they will be out of business. Sorry Yien, that was really poor. Staff and service nice but its about the food...

We think this is is one of the best Chinese restaurants in North London. We have been going to Yien for several years and also often have take-out from there. The flavourful traditional Chinese food is always consistently good and appetising - freshly prepared with generous portions and the take-away is just as good as the restaurant food. The restaurant space is large and airy and always looks spotless. The friendly staff have always been helpful and chatty.

Ordered a home delivery for 4 people on a Thursday evening at 19:20pm. Told it would be 40 - 45 mins. Eventually turned out to be well over one and a half hours. More than double the time. We called up after an hour and told it would be 10 mins. It wasn't. Worst thing was that the delivery guy couldn't give a damn. When asked why it had been so delayed, the man shrugged his shoulders and said 'we're busy'. Yien won't we so busy in future; we won't be back!

Very poor. Not visited this place for a while. Collected a take away, what can I say. Deep fried chilli beef no sauce and tasteless. Chicken and cashmere nuts with yellow bean sauce… hmm. Mostly mushrooms no sauce and one cashew nut. No egg in the egg fried rice. How sad, that a great place is now turning out rubbish. Save your money.

Food was excellent and arrived very quickly , would recommend this restaurant to anyone who really likes Chinese food

Food came in 20 mins, was delicious. We loved the crispy beef and crispy duck. Kids ate it all up too.

Popped in on the off chance for lunch . The food was tasty and the buffet dishes were replenished regularly. A great choice of dishes, really nice to just try a little of everything. We found the staff friendly and helpful.

This is the first review of any restaurant I have ever written but having seen some recent comments I felt I had to relay my experience. What can I say but that it is ‘first class’ I live locally and was a regular visitor to Soho’s Chinatown but I’ve stopped since the refurbishment and reopening of Yien with its extensive and excellent menu. Why go to Chinatown when we are lucky enough to have our very own neighbourhood Chinatown restaurant right here in Muswell Hill? I have found the staff to be very friendly courteous and efficient. The food is absolutely delicious and comes quickly in good size portions which is helpful because me and my my kids scoff the lot. Thank you to the management and staff of Yien for some very enjoyable evenings.

Drove up to Muswell Hill and went in for a takeaway. Got home to find some items were missing which totally spoiled the meal which also wasn’t cheap and the food was average at best. Not happy. How hard is it to write down an order and then make sure you put it in a bag, especially when the place is empty?

The rudest staff i have come across for a while. The food is quite good, but waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes seems a bit much. when you call in they simply tell you in 15 min intervals it is on the way and hand up. When asking them not to hang up there response is "well what do you want".

Food is ok, but staff are awful. Arrogance and bad management are not a good mix. In the end a very disappointing experience.

Within minutes of arriving in an almost empty restaurant the manager told us to leave because of my learning disable son, saying she had to consider other customers.

The atmosphere is fairly average and the service can be slow but - and it's a big but - the food is the best you will find anywhere. The reason is not just that the vegetables are fresh, and consist of way more than just onion and beansprouts. The sauces - black bean, sweet and sour and so on are obviously handmade, and delicious. Light on the MSG (if any at all) and salt, and big on flavour without being heavy or gloopy. Seriously, this is the best Chinese food I've had in a long, long time. It's not just top of my list - it IS my list.

We went for a family celebration, 8 of us. Staff friendly and attentive. Food delicious with some unusual dishes on the menu. The restaurant was full so service wasn’t super fast but the food was well worth the wait which wasn’t very long

We went here as we were in the area but was dubious due to other reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised! We were and group of 8 people, the service was amazing they made sure we were all happy and well looked after. All of the staff are very attentive and polite! The food was served hot and was of a very good standard. I even took food home for my partner as it was so good! I will definitely be returning.

Friendly helpful staff. Great quality fresh food. They try hard to accommodate requests not on menu and prices are good value and good quality. Very pleased I went in to try the food. Happy to go again and again to try other choices. Eugene

No comer aquí. El servicio es terriblemente lento e incluso me cobraron £8 para algunos un tema brécol - no estaba en el menú, y ni siquiera con carne o pescado. Un robo. Cuando me quejé por el servicio, el gerente me dijo que nuestra mesa había sido miserable toda la noche (simplemente porque tuve que preguntar varias veces lo largo de nuestra comida) y así nos merecíamos un servicio pobre! Ella dijo que no quería que mi encargo y no importa si escribí una crítica negativa. No podemos tener restaurantes como este en Muswell Hill! No se les debe permitir escapar con tan maleducadas - disminuye el tono de toda la vecindad.

Hemos ido a Muswell Hill y hasta me apetecía china. El restaurante que había visto desde fuera y me pareció genial. . Todos manteles blancos y ropa. Pero luego vine a aquí y leer los comentarios y casi no llego. Eso habría sido un gran error.

Came here for a friends birthday dinner and were constantly disappointed with the experience.

Yo estaba caminando por tiendas y noté un cartel luminoso publicidad el restaurante. De todos modos como yo hambre, así que decidí ir a verlo. Desde el aspecto del lugar que ha sido recientemente reformado y parece increíble. Según el director, tienen un menú nuevo y actualizado. Pedí unos platos y me quedé sorprendido. La comida era increíble. y los precios no eran demasiado caros. Volveré aquí, eso seguro!

Fui allí para el almuerzo con un amigo. Todo en este restaurante es de primera calidad. La decoración, el menú, el servicio y el pato crujiente que tuvimos. Fue un verdadero placer para comer aquí y volveremos muy pronto. Probablemente el mejor restaurante en Muswell...

Pedimos su langosta especial para dos. La comida fue decepcionante en calidad y caro. Sus gambas empanadas había conchas, y la clasificación general comida sería una estrella. Aparte de eso, el cargo por 2 (sin bebidas) era de 70 euros. Además, la militante que buscan y actuar, camarera de mediana edad china insistió en que no podía retirar el cargo por servicio de 10 por ciento, así que la actual ley vino a 77 libras. Ojalá que nunca había ido a este lugar y no tengo planes de visitar en el futuro.

The spare ribs and chicken wings are delicious! I'm slightly addicted to them... Also very nice staff and good service.

I have been going to Yien for many years, the food is excellent especially the peppered chicken wings and the spare ribs. In fact I have tried every dish and enjoyed every one of them. I like the friendly atmosphere, the service and the scrupulous cleanliness of the place. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to have a meal there.

I've been at this restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday. I think they serve good food at an affordable price.I had a grilled pork dumplings (which I recommend), white rice and sweet and sour chicken. I enjoyed everything and I was surprised that the pineapple in the chicken was actually real, fresh pineapple and not the usual canned fruit.I also tried some friend green beans with garlic (delicious, it was like eating french fries!) and duck which was served with what they called pancake (it looks like a mexican tortilla), green onion and cucumber. The duck was good: crispy, but not tough.We spent 53 pounds (together), which I feel it is not bad.The only thing I didn't really like was the ambient music :)

I just ate with a friend at this Chinese restaurant and was very impressed. The decor was very fesh and clean and the table well spaced, so you did not feel you were on top of the next table.The food was excellent and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Although I live not too far away I had never tried this place. It will not go on my list of good places to eat.

I've eaten from Yien several times (as it's local), but tonight took the biscuit. Placed an order online and was informed it would take an hour. Tried calling when it didn't arrive, but couldn't get through for ages. When I finally spoke to someone, I was advised the food would be 5 minutes. The food arrived after 2 hours. Absolute joke.Sit in the corner Yien, and think about what you've done.

Freaky mauve décor everywhere from the staff to the tablecloths to the bog roll, and a bit of a fish-tank setting just off the main road by the shops - these details don't exactly entice you in. BUT - the staff are super efficient, the food is really good and it's not bad value either.

First time to have buffet in here. The taste is better than what I expect. It's really nice and good environment.

I went at a Saturday lunchtime in mid-January 2015. The restaurant was freezing and we kept our coats on. The food was average, but the prices were very high. I asked for tonic water but was given soda water. (I asked to see the bottle when the taste was wrong.) I asked for a slice of lemon in it, but was told they didn't have any. I saw 2 lemons in the fridge when we left. We paid double what we pay in other Chinese places. Only 2 tables were occupied.I walked past last week at lunchtime, and it was completely empty. So others also find the place off-putting.

Went with my family and 90-year old vegetarian mother for my birthday. Highlights were the Delicious prawns and spare ribs. Good range of dishes. Noodles and egg fired rice were good quality. My 10-year old is keen to go back asap. Service for drinks and getting the bill were on the slow side but ok considering the place was full.

NEVER order from this restaurant!! Absolutely disgraceful attitude and service. Having ordered from here regularly for over 18 months, clearly customer loyalty is not important!

We ordered a delivery and were promised it would arrive in half an hour. This was a Tuesday night - hardly a busy time. 40 minutes later I called them and were told my order had been 'lost.' I had to read out my order and address again - TWICE. I was promised it would be with us in ten minutes. 15 minutes later I rang them again and was told it would be there 'soon.' When it eventually did arrive, to top it all off, the delivery man quoted a price of £2 more than I had been quoted on the phone.The food was nice, but would need to be exceptionally good to make up for the sheer incompetence of the service. There are plenty of alternatives in the area and I'll be using them for deliveries from now on.

I visited Yien on 22nd July 2014 with my daughter. We ordered steamed vegetable dumplings, crispy duck with pancakes (11.20 for a quarter duck), 2 other dishes and some egg fried rice. I also had a glass of what tasted like watered-down Sauvignon Blanc. The dumplings were nice enough and the duck was as we might have expected - however, we were given just 6 thin pancakes - woefully inadequate for the amount of duck. We ordered more and they brought 4 more at a cost of 1.80 (which I deducted from the service charge at the end). We all know how very cheap these pancakes are - so what a cheek charging for more when they hadn't supplied many to start with! Our other dishes were disappointingly bland - Chicken with Cashew Nuts Singapore style (very few cashews and no flavour) and House Special Noodes - nothing 'special' about them! The egg was hard to spot in the egg fried rice. My husband (whose family are Hong Kong Chinese) has never been interested in eating at Yien but we thought we'd try it in his absence. Unfortunately, he was probably right.

The staff in the Yien are always pleasant and create a happy ambience at this local restaurant. The menu has lots of usual dishes that can be found in most London Chinese restaurants, but there are some unusual and delicious ones as well. I particularly like their Tai Pei & their Spicy Tai Pei: finely chopped & lightly cooked vegetables & chicken served in delicate, edible small cups. The Duck with Lo Han vegetables is tasty and all their dishes, especially their fish dishes contain only fresh and well sourced ingredients. There is a good takeaway and delivery service, too, for those cold rainy nights when you don't fancy moving from the warmth of your own house.

Staying in London for a few nights ( Muswell Hill ) and fancied a Chinese meal. What a disappointment - the only way I can describe it was bland and tasteless - the beef noodles were actually quite greasy and it's the very first time I have ever tasted curry that didn't taste of curry !!I am glad we didn't pay the restaurant prices to sit down and eat but feel slightly ripped off for the prices charged for a tasteless "take away" - most of it went in the bin, even my daughter failed to eat it and she is NOT a fussy eater.

I've been there twice and I was never disappointed.Good selection of Chinese dishes and the ones I tasted were quite well cooked.I think also that the crispy aromatic duck was above the average!Negative points: atmosphere is poor, the place looks often empty. 5 pounds for a tiger beer are quite ridiculous and no choice of desserts as in most of the Chinese restaurants (of course not the top ones).

The buffet dishes looked good through the window, and although the quotes price – £9.95 for an adult buffet, £6.95 for a children's – seemed pricier than other local buffets, the food didn't look too shiny and full of MSG. But the service was unfriendly – one of the members of staff didn't speak English, the other didn't speak at all – and our short visit with two adults and a 14-year-old girl cost £37 – because our daughter was 14, she was charged as an adult (even though she ate barely anything), and on top of everything was a 10% service charge EVEN THOUGH YOU SERVE YOURSELF! The food was adequate, little better than its appearance, but certainly not worth 10 quid which is the price of a very good meal at any nearby eaterie... unless, of course, you're planning to stay the whole afternoon (well, it's only open from 12-4 so you'd have four hours to 'pig out') and stuff yourself silly. Basically think of it as an "all you can eat buffet" for £11 per head plus drinks, and suddenly it doesn't look that great value any more. The range of dishes was also extremely boring and stereotypical – chicken satay! Fancy! – and COLD.

Friendly service, a typically good range of Chinese dishes, all done well of course. They also do take away. We go here a bit but it is a little bit on the pricey side. Definitely worth a visit however.
