£13 for a fishcake, 2portions of salad and a canned drink seemed a little excessive to me. The taste was only all right. I left wishing I had gone to a nearby supermarket to buy a pack of their fishcakes to heat and eat at home

Lunch options consist of a choice of reheated stodgy pastry-based items served with very mean portions of salad. This is the kind of food that 20 years ago was quite modish but in 2022 is a bit depressing.

Lovely cafe in the grounds of Hillsborough Castle. 20 of us did a tour of the Castle and had lunch booked for cafe. The food was nice but even though we were booked in, there wasn't a lot of food left for us at 2oc. The service was very good and friendly, but they could have done with extra help at food counter. We sat out on the terrace afterwards and had some drinks. Lovely day out but was expected a bit more variety as we had booked previously.

We ate here before visiting the Castle & Gardens. We had soups and our daughter had the sausage roll, all really tasty. There was plenty of seating even though it was a busy day. The place was clean and staff friendly.

We tried to buy a coffee and scone and were told we had to join the long line of people buying lunch to pay for the scone before we could buy our coffee. As in the past we've had to wait for a long time to have our coffee served,we decided it wasn't worth the wait.

Lovely cafe, situated in the entrance to Hillsborough Castle. Enjoyed a lovely salad, and had a taste of the chicken goujon. Menu provides a nice range, with a selection of great looking cakes.

My husband and I decided to treat ourselves and called in for a coffee along with two slices of lemon meringue. When we sat down to eat the meringue, we found that the pastry base was not cooked and was not edible. While we received a refund for the meringue, the manager did not offer an apology. We would have expected the customer service to be of a higher standard at Hillsborough Castle and we will be hesitant to return again.

Coming through the entrance of Hillsborough Castle we decided to get coffee and visited this cafe. There was only filtered coffee as the coffee machine was cleaned and off for the night. Why was the staff not interested in the customers, there was no please or thank you when paying either! We sat down at a table just wiped and felt we where committing a crime and the 2 floor staff sliding up and down the floor without lifting their feet was to say the least irritating. We are calling to Mc Donald's to get a decent coffee on the way home!

Been in a couple of times recently, once for lunch and again for scone & coffee. Both visits were good, food was lovely and the setting is fab.

Had lunch today Saturday, disappointing menu, one steak pie was nice but my meal mixup and whenI had to reorder and wait 15 minutes or more was not good. Dry chicken, hard chips , dry ciabatta, We had been previously and got the special steak pie and thought it was great. They need to get their act together , it’s too nice a setting for such a basic menu.

We visited as a group of four. The food was ok apart from the bread which accompanied the soup. It was dry and tasteless. The problem was the service. I have always previously enjoyed visiting the restaurant. However today this was far from the case. The current system does not work. I was up and down to the till not only to order but to get the drinks already ordered but not brought to the table. I then had to convince the group of three staff who were perusing whether or not I had paid that I definitely had done. I then had to get glasses for the drinks. When the coffees / teas arrived the milk for my daughter’s tea was ‘off’ and I had to again go to the service area as there were no servers around. Moreover the sugar sachets were sodden as the container holding them had water inside. All in all it was far from a pleasant, relaxing experience. I made my feelings known to the servers at the counter who justified the problems by saying there were too many complaints about the previous system. In my opinion the previous system was so much better. If some customers are not comfortable with this then maybe they might be asked to go to the till. Certainly if the current system continues we would definitely not return. The experience was so unpleasant that my husband jokingly suggested at the end of the meal that maybe he should give me the gratuity.

Sadly not impressed. Just in for a coffee and scone. Scone didn’t seem fresh, even though we were quite early. There was not the usual sweetness that you would expect from scone either. The jam (small jar) seal had been broken so had to get that replaced (which they did ok, no problem) but the real issue was how long it took to get the coffee. This is not complicated, but why so long? Not overly busy, so that’s not a reason.

Had a great day at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens buy sorely disappointed with the service. Informed the management and whilst I received an email stating "they experienced a much larger volume of trade than we have been accustomed to" it did not answer why two tables that arrived and ordered 20mins after us were were served their meals before us...50min wait time for a lunch is excessive. Email response did little to assure us this would be addressed. Otherwise the food was fine. Recommend using the Plough or Hillside in the town.

My wife and I ordered on picnic to enjoy in the wonderful grounds of Hillsborough Castle. The picic was excellent, The best quiche I've ever eaten, homemade sausage rolls, a couple of superb salads plus very tasty brownies and lipsmackingly good Eton Mess. Add to that a couple of quality soft drinks and you have a 1st class meal in a box. All of the above for £20. What a bargain! Thoroughly recommended.

We were here this morning for breakfast and after the warm welcome from Adam and his staff we enjoyed the salmon , scrambled egg and the delicious multi grained bread toasted. Generous portions and beautiful surroundings made it a treat worth waiting for. Thanks everyone.

The service, ambiance, parking, cleanliness, ordering process etc was good. The food was dreadful. I ordered a Sirloin steak sandwich and chips. it was described as Cambrooke dry aged steak with grilled onions, flat mushrooms and cheddar cheese. with peppercorn sauce and triple cooked chips....

A really lovely place to grab a breakfast, thankfully the vegetarian option is unreal! It's one of the best vegetarian breakfasts I've ever had, definitely recommend eating here.

We came to this restaurant with our tour group for an afternoon tea. My husband has a peanut allergy and he asked the staff if any of the food we would be served had peanuts. The waitress told us that nothing they were serving had peanuts in it, so we were very happy. They had a spread of scones, sandwiches, and desserts. Nothing had labels on it so we took whatever looked good. My husband bit into a dessert and instantly realized it was a peanut butter rice krispie treat. Thankfully he spit it out when he realized so he did not have an anaphylactic reaction. When we spoke to management again the manager completely dismissed us saying that the tour group should have given them 24 hours notice of the allergy. However we had asked if anything had peanuts in it so we could avoid it and they blatantly left out that a dessert was made with peanut butter. Do not go here if you have an allergy, they do not care.
