Lunch not a patch on years ago when the food was prepared and interesting.Wonderful terrines , cheese as an option for a supplement. Seems to be Brake Brothers standards now

Stopped by for a quick lunch with family. I didn’t find the menu very inspiring. Two of us had the beetroot falafel, it was “ok” we thought it rather overpriced for what we had. One of us had a club sandwich, nothing to write home about. To be honest we wouldn’t rush back. Lovely staff, well attended, but I’m afraid we found the food very disappointing. Sadly I would not recommend it for a place to have lunch.

What a poor effort!. Having come here on January for the first carvery it was excellent. But, as with all you have to letbit bed in a bit and see what it's like after a few weeks. Sadly, like most it has hurtled downhill. Meat was pk but the veg was all lukewarm, frozen sprouts, Yorkshire puddings i wouldn't have even served. Such a shame.

There was 4 for dinner so we sat in the Restaurant and ordered from the menu of the day Table d'hote. Two soup of the day, tomato and basil, and a Terrinne of chicken and asparagus,we waited for the bread rolls, and in the end we went in search of the bread basket. The main course 2 ordered grilled pork steaks in mushroom sauce with a layer of garlic roast potatoes.Well maybe we should have eat earlier as the roast potatoes had eye watering amounts of garlic butter poured over them , plus the pork steaks were badly burnt to rock hard with black edging. 2 had ordered pan fried chicken on sauteed potatoes.well the sauteed potatoes were a mash, and the chicken sat on top of the mash in a thick sauce, and it was impossible to cut the chicken portion without the meat sinking into mash which then created a battle to stop the mash squeezing sideways off the plate. Near the end of the struggle we were asked how we were getting on, and the manager was called to the table, and despite the evidence of the awfulness plastered across our plates tried to argue with us and only after the argument was a grudging offer made to clear the bill. Disappointing.

I have been going to Yelfs for a long time. In the last few years it has gone downhill. I popped in recently to meet a friend for a pint. I left and met him in the street instead for the following reasons:Service: There was no one behind the bar and it took ages to get anyone's attention. Even then I felt like I was just an annoying task for the barman.Drunks: There were three drunks sitting at the bar one of whom was clearly looking for trouble. The staff showed no interest in dealing with him. This would never have happened in the past.Beer: The real ale was very poor. It had been kept badly, was well past its best and tasted awful. In addition the range of beers was uninspiring.

We were a party of five and booked two rooms for just the one night - thank goodness. On arrival the hotel felt very dated and it didn't get any better when we saw our rooms which were both in the Annexe across the road. Both bedrooms were more like hostel rooms and the family room (number 52) had mould on the windows in the bedroom and the bathroom. None of the beds had mattress covers and it just felt rather grubby. I couldn't wait to check out.Breakfast was ok but the waitress was very unwelcoming and was rather put out when we asked for a jug of milk that had failed to arrive with our tea and coffee. Stayed here for 2 nights end of April after travelling to attend a 60th birthday party at the hotel. Our room was in the annexe across the road from the hotel. The entrance was like entering a hostel, the horrible blue painted doors into the room & en-suite & flooring & sanitary ware in the bathroom were reminiscent of an old hospital I did my nurse training in 35 years ago. There was another horrible blue door adjoining the room next door, soundproofing was lacking both from the adjoining room & room above. We went walking after breakfast on the second day of our stay & I was not looking forward to returning back to the uninviting, lack lustre room. Breakfast was buffet service, barely warm & mediocre though the freshly prepared fried eggs were very nice. Party buffet was mediocre. I was just pleased we received a discount on the booking price given we were attending a party.

Travelled over to the Ryde IOW from Southsea via Hovertravel last Sunday to have Sunday Lunch at the Yelf's Hotel. We have done this trip dozens of times and always have lunch at the Yelf's. On this occasion we opted to have Sunday Lunch in the Conservatory and not in the formal Dining Room. Great service as always. However, my Sunday Roast was not to the usual standard I had expected. For my Starter I had roasted red pepper soup which was great - no problem there. My Sunday Roast Beef main course however was a total disaster - the beef, although cooked correctly was unfortunately virtually inedible. I had to cut around so much gristle from the two generous portions provided that there was barely any left that was fit to eat. The Yorkshire Pudding looked like it had been flattened to look like a discus and was 'positioned' ridiculously on my plate as though it was some form of fancy work of cuisine art! The roast potatoes were not brilliant, and although the vegetables were plentiful it seems as though the Chef had ordered too many carrots and decided to give them all to me. I've never seen a vegetable dish so overloaded with carrots - there was barely room to to fit in any broccoli and cauliflower florets! My Dessert (Eton Mess) was splendid. All in all a bit of a let down as we have had many many Sunday Lunches at the Yelf's but on this occasion it was a complete disappointment. My wife must have sensed that something was afoot - she had ordered Cod and Chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh well you can't win them all, and on this occasion I certainly didn't.

But.. outside by your window is people smoking which is a very unpleasant thing when eating.Starters arrived and it was very nice, no problems.Roast beef dinner arrived and it was disgusting. The beef was so raw that it was impossible to cut . It really did look like road kill. The Yorkshire pudding was as cold and hard as the table and the roast potatoes were rock hard and black. You just couldn't eat it.Then we found a hair on my plate..aaarghWe reported this to the staff and they brought us more meat but by this time we had lost our appetite and wanted to leave so I spoke to the manager. To his credit, he cancelled all charges, including the drinks we had, and apologised.Other diners heard this and said they have a new chef and things are not the same .The waiting staff were all very polite with a smile so not their fault but unfortunately we will not return.

We have been using Yelf's restaurant and bar over numerous years and have been very happy with the food and service until recently. In the last few months things appear to have gone downhill. On the first occasion, we were greeted by a waiter who seemed very keen to emphasise on when time to order food would end even though we were well within the time limit or at least 45 minutes before. It had the effect of creating an unnecessary pressure as though he would have preferred us not to order at all. We have also noticed that the portions of the food have been steadily decreasing over time. For example the tagliatelle which for approximately £10, I would expect a generous plateful normally is now only a fistful amount swimming on a shallow tasteless cream sauce. The same applies to your fish dishes . Whilst they are still tasty they have seem to have shrunk in size to accommodate only a few mouthfuls which in turn feels more like a food tasting exercise rather then enjoying hearty meal that we used to in the past. We hope you will consider reassessing these matters as to date we don't have the same passion of using Yelfs as we used to.

Quite a busy Sunday lunchtime, we walked in for a spot of lunch. Shortly after ordering, we received our first course. Sadly after just over an hour, our main course hadn't arrived. It would appear we had been forgotten. Very disappointing, and this would have been an one star review if it hadn't been for the attitude of the manager who couldn't have been more apologetic. It was too late to re-order and they had sold out one of our orders so we had to go elsewhere. These things happen I suppose but this was our first visit and based on this experience we are unlikely to return. A shame, as the many courses we observed being delivered to other tables looked quite tasty!

I went here with a friend in August 2016, and initially just ordered beer.I was disappointed that the beer they poured was cloudy, which I could see immediately it was pumped, but gave them the benefit of the doubt in case it settled. It tasted sour, almost vinegary! The staff really should have spotted the cloudyness and checked it, or offered to let me check it, instead of serving the entire pint and let me leave the bar.I took it back and had to wait for attention and to complain, I ended up having a different beer which was OK but still not the best. This was later on in the evening, so it's not like they could use the excuse it was the first pint out of the barrel that day.

We needed to meet friends to catch up and discuss future plans. Although we had set the date and time we were too late to secure a table for four, for the whole evening, elsewhere in Ryde. We settled on Yelfs after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. The main reception area of this once-genteel hotel is dominated by the bar and has more of a pub mentality than fine dining ... but read on. When we arrived they knew we were coming (a rare treat alas these days) and had set us in the bay window of the Dutch Room. Nice white linen table cloth and well set table greeted us. Apart from a young helper asking for drinks orders immediately he had sat down, the service was very good, wine reasonably priced and a three course table d'hote menu was full of promise. Two of us enjoyed the tempura prawns, one the breaded mushrooms and one the smoked chicken: presentation was 8/10 but flavour was 10/10. The main course likewise. I had the lamb cutlets - two good sized and flavoursome well cooked offerings on saute potatoes and a pea/mint jus. My wife had the savoury pepper which looked dull but tasted excellent. Our guests had the fillets of plaice which were very fresh and cooked just right and the supreme of chicken had fine flavour. Loads of nice vegetables. Desserts ranged from profiteroles with fresh fruit, which was the best of our selection; to tiramisu and lemon posset which was tasty enough. All told a very good find for £15 a head; the service was unobtrusive, the chef knows how to order and cook well, the chairs were comfortable, the table was large enough and not crammed up with other diners; and we all enjoyed it. We shall return.

Eat in here every night for a fortnight despite staying elsewhere. The specials menu is changed every two days and at £9.95 for dinner and dessert beats mist places in Ryde on quality. The Sunday three course dinner is great and the bar menu very good value again.Fish and chips wonderful especially the home made tartar sauce , the best you will ever eat. The deserts are top notch. Portions are good without being too large.Well worth a top rating!

This hotel is located on Yelf's Street, Ryde. In the center of town, it is convenient and not far from restaurants. Breakfast is complementary. The bathroom is a little outdated though. The staff are very friendly.

I think Yelfs is overated. Only popped in for a drink which proved to be very exspensive. Have stayed at the hotel in the past and it's very dated.

Yelfs has a very good bad and range of drinks. We decided to have lunch one day with family and it was very good. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel lacks atmosphere but is generally good and always nice to visit.

It's easy, perhaps, to walk past Yelfs thinking it may be a bit old fashioned but the food is consistently amazing. The service is efficient and I think the three course meal offers excellent value for money.

Often this is overlooked as a suitable place to have lunch (being a hotel) book it and ask for a reserved table in the front room by a window that overlooks the active tourist street. The food is top quality with an excellent chef and nicely presented. The wine list is good and reasonable and there are always lovely dishes on the specials board and 2 courses for under £10!You can add a dessert for a few pounds more. There are many options in Ryde but this is far the best option price wise and quality! I have recently stayed at this hotel, for 1 night whilst on business. The room was comfortable, clean and quite even though near to reception. The staff were very helpful and service in the bar and restaurant was excellent. The hotel is in a good location, and the breakfast was of a good standard, and the waitress brought us beans out even though not on the menu. If you are looking for a good honest British seaside hotel, then this one ticks the boxes, its not 5 star or even 4 but good honest service with a smile and plenty of british charm.

We booked a table for 4 and took out cousins for Sunday lunch. They said it was one of the best meals they had ever had. The table was nicely laid and we were offered complimentary rolls with butter and a jug of chilled water. The staff were professional and efficient. We were very impressed with the food. My pasta bake with generous salad was delicious - and a generous portion. Nothing was basic - everything had the air of being prepared by someone who really knew what they were doing. We thought the price was quite reasonable. A very good experience - we will return.

We have now had a couple of meals here and they have both been excellent, two course main and pud for £10.00 or 3 for £15.00 but we were stuffed with just two, it's a nice relaxed place to eat or sit with a pint and watch the world go by.

Had an evening meal here with my son. We chose a 2 course meal from the Table d'hote menu for £9.99 each, there was a really good choice for all tastes. We had lamb shank and salmon, with 4 different vegetables, all perfectly cooked. The Eton Mess dessert is a twist on the old favourite and delicious! There is also a large bar menu with something for everyone. The staff were friendly and the service was really good. Well worth a visit!

Came in to see a friend and left with a warm contented feeling, the place is warm and cozy and very friendly, but spacious enough to not be overbearing. The food is excellent and it has to be the best burger on the island hands down, it’s huge, full of flavour and seriously tasty, highly recommend the village inn

This is a great 'out of the way' place to stop and have a quick bite to eat or drink, the cafe is set in the grounds of the abbey and there is seating inside and out. A lovely location on any day. There is a small menu of food available. Plus homemade cakes and hot drinks

This is a lovely little eatery, with great views over Ryde beach. I visited with my partner for lunch. We also had our dog, so we sat outside. There was a good varied selection on the menu, all was a reasonable price. The food was presented very well and was tasty. It was a little on the cold side but warm enough to not be too much of an issue. The staff were also friendly. I was a tad perturbed at the end of our visit when I used the loo inside the restaurant, my partner was waiting at the table outside and I was asked by the server if he was paying… I felt a bit like he thought we were going to run away without paying which I found a little offensive. That and the Luke warm food was the only reason I gave a 4/5 otherwise it was a lovely lunch and we enjoyed it. I would visit again.
