Stopped for a quick pint while looking round Ashbourne beer was ok for a standard pub not a great choice of ale . I did notice people having a beer outside with food they'd bought elsewhere which was good

Beer excellent at a bargain price.Pub generally dirty. Not very welcoming place nor do you feel comfortable.Language from end of bar disgraceful with contributions from licencee It feels more like you are intruding into their family space rather than a pub.I believe that the manager was moving on ..God knows to which other place they can work their magic on ! Apart from their cronies and us the pub was deserted..I wonder why ? I just hope that the new manager can turn this "proper" pub around because I don't know how they can remain open with so little custom. The pub might be old but there is character there, just no atmosphere.

Popped in for a drink when exploring Ashbourne. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Situated in the centre of town. Outside seating too.

They serve cobs but do not have food hygiene certificate, place isn't very clean but it has changed management a few times, present people there now has had it b4 but he has a manager that stands in when not there and he bars a lot of people but druggies don't get barred, this pub is going downhill

Dirtiest pub in Ashbourne, outside full of cig ends and broken glass, you have to get a cloth to clean tables yourself before sitting down, staff don’t clear glasses, bar top full of dirty glasses, staff on phones, disgraceful, it may be cheap beer but no excuse for zero standards. Picture has a plate of food, they don’t do food

Use this pub on a regular basis. It is always clean, prices are the best in Ashbourne. Friendly staff. Ideal for all sports on their many screens and often show 2 football matches at the same time. The beer is kept well and the locals will keep you entertained. This pub is well worth a visit if you are in Ashbourne. Check out their Facebook for latest events

Visited this pub on on 15/08/2019.a young 12yr old girl was sat behind the bar whilst mother and son were in the back watching on cctv.when questioned over this ,was rather rude.Is this how the brewery train their staff in customer services. OBVIOUSLY not.please educate your staff manners and customer care for a pub to thrive in what is a good community. Totally disgusted with attitude of land lady and son. Hopefully brewery will realise how these people are dragging a sleeping goldmine down.

We stopped here on what turned out to be a very short pub crawl of Ashbourne (everything closed!). There was a young lad and lass behind the bar. He greeted us politely and served the drinks whilst she ignored us and played on her mobile whilst sat on a stool behind the bar. I got the impression she was supposed to be training him, but he did ok without her. If you can get past the weird smell (possibly the loos) its comfortable enough for a quick drink. They offer a good selection at very reasonable prices. The building itself is a proper pub style rather than a modern bar with comfy seats and plenty of tables. The loos were surprisingly modern - more akin to a conference centre! A great place for a couple of drinks to start the evening.

We ended a Dovedale walk with a stop in Ashbourne... looking for food. We found it at Benny's in the square but ... one of our group needed a loo break so popped into the Ye Olde Vaults to ask to use theirs... that led to an invite to buy a drink & eat our food in the pub, despite having bought it elsewhere!!! That's a welcome you don't see very often elsewhere, we enjoyed our food and drink and enjoyed the company of local folks enjoying a lunch time pint. The clean toilets seem newly renovated, the decor in the pub is simple and functional - overall a great pub, doing a great job of what a pub should be... the subtle branding affirms Ye Olde Vaults to be part of the Craft Union Pub company and together they and the landlord(s) are doing a great job!

I recently went into the ye olde vaults, on Saturday the 2nd of Feb. And the new young land lady was incredibly rude, had attitude and verbally abusive towards customers. WAS a good pub until the new couple came along.

Really bad. Sad bunch of local blokes swearing and propping up the bar sharing 1970’s banter. Landlord was enjoying the company. Only positive was that the cask beer was well kept and a decent pint. But couldn’t get out of the place quickly enough - and I’m no shrinking violet. Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

I used to enjoy lunch here regularly when staying in the area. Arrived Ashbourne, yesterday and nostalgia and hunger took me back. "No food here" I was told, and clearly it has changed much since I last visited. But they appear to have a good selection of ales, and girls there recommended the George.

Where do i start?Firstly, the lady that is running it currently has not a clue how to manage a pub.Me and my friends were shocked at the amount of kids in here.. The Locals were loud, shouting, screaming, with even the lady in charge shouting and swearing from behind the bar.Not a welcoming environment at all.Looks like a kids school disco, would not recommend.

I’d previously been in this pub and enjoyed it .. so I recommended it as a stop On a Derbyshire tour .. unfortunately we arrived and immediately got abuse from a local .. watching football and then he kicked a woman in our party and left the pub .. we left. in passing later we saw the person and asked the pub landlady why he did it . The land lady then went in to abuse with foul language and threats At all of us .. totally disgusting .. reported to the police ..

We had been visiting Ashbourne and were very hungry and had decided to pop into the Vaults for a meal and a drink. The place itself, on first glance, felt a bit grimy with outdated and tired looking decor, sticky tables and dust and cobwebs. However, first appearances can be very deceptive. We stayed and ordered food and were very pleased by the friendly attitude from the staff who were more than happy to chat and serve us. The food was actually made very fast and was of good quality compared to a lot of pubs.If you are looking for a meal that's good value and tasty I recomment this establishment.(It's also dog friendly!)

There is nothing wrong with the decor - it is a traditional pub. The staff were very welcoming even though we were in muddy cycling gear. The Sunday lunch was perfect, cooked well, lots of veg & loads of gravy. If you're looking for gourmet food forget it. If you want a hearty meal after walking or cycling its spot on.

We were looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch and this was very close to where we parked the car to look around Ashbourne. Very old fashioned pub in need of decorating but the more than made up for it. Good fresh home cooked food and plenty of it. Very good value. We would go again.

Only popped in for a pint while staying in the town the guy behind the bar was really friendly and chatted away, only one other customer in the place. Bit off putting the amount of family pics on display, it is a pub and think they should be kept in your home. Bit lacking in atmosphere.

Well what can I say... What a dive, this place really needs an update, a lick of paint, a complete renovation!!!.The vaults is in prime position in the market place & looks pretty quaint from the outside, until you walk through the doors. What a shame the owners have let it slip, otherwise I think that it would be buzzing. There were only a few people in there when we visited & one couple left has soon has they walked through the door. However the young chap behind the bar was very nice & promt with service. Would not recomend this bar, there are far better places to drink in Ashbourne than this place....Sorry.

We had lunch here today, I had the Sunday Roast, my wife had the soup. My roast was fantastic , a huge plate and all of it very tasty . The soup was apparently also very good and seemed to be home made. The lady serving was very friendly and the service quick. The pub itself is a bit basic but had a nice local feel to it. Recommended.

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
