Super lunch with my Mum for an early Mother’s Day treat. Food was great, plenty of choice for vegetarians, staff friendly, helpful and polite. Great pub. Nice atmosphere

Was our favourite place to eat when we lived locally, visiting again while in the area and did not disappoint, lovely food and great service, love the doggy refreshments table, great touch! And still serving one of the best chocolate brownies around!!!

We went there for a couple of pints after a nice country walk on Sunday. The atmosphere in the pub is good and service was great. They have water and treats available for dogs. We were a few, and got there around 3:30pm. At that time most of the space is dedicated to people ordering food (late Sunday lunches), and only a small area by the bar was available for drinks. There was no space there for us and the weather was good so we took a couple of outdoor tables in the back. The outside area is nice and tidy, and most tables have heating available. When we ordered drinks at the bar we were asked to let them know if we needed the heating turned on (it wasn't necessary), and when we were having drinks outside a member of staff came over to let us know that a table indoors had freed up. It's hard to get good service like that anywhere this days... I will be back.

We had a large booking for 29 people. We did a pre-order. We had the most wonderful time. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. All the meals were correct and were delicious. The staff allowed us to set up an area for a cake. We were all seated together in our own area. We were so well looked after and we had such a fantastic evening.

Really nice place, friendly and well looked after. Lovely food and staff always will to help. Presentation of food could do with small tweaking to improve, although that didn't detract from good quality food and taste. Would recommend without thinking about it.

Nice old pub with low wooden beams, etc. Friendly service, cosy, definitely a place to come and enjoy a meal. I popped in to sample the cask ale and was unimpressed.. just two Marston's ales available: Pedigree and 61Deep, neither of which was excellent.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful but the food was not great. I felt it was expensive for what it was. One of our guests found the Hunters chicken inedible and this was taken off the bill but it did spoil the evening.

Always a warm friendly welcome. Great choice of food. And lunchtime special menu of 2 or 3 courses at great prices. Great that it’s dog friendly. With bowls of water and treats. Lots of space to seat and eat comfortably without sitting on top of others. Recommend Saracens Head as it’s a great country pub with great wholesome food.

The arrangements for our lunch including pre-ordering for were organised expertly by Chloe and, on the day, were spot on. The meal were universally praised by the 11 in our party. The wine was very good too. The efficiency of the service was outstanding and a special word for Sandie who was simply outstanding in looking after 11 boisterous ageing tennis players! Prompt service, great food, nice atmosphere

The staff were good but the Sunday roast leaves a lot to be desired. It came out after about 2 minutes so obviously nothing freshly cooked. Hard, overdone Yorkshire pudding that was obviously cooked a lot earlier, turkey slices that were clearly not fresh but were just reheated bought in slices that were completely tasteless. A few soggy, very sorry looking greens. The only item that could be classed as good were the roast potatoes.

The wait staff were polite, courteous and knowledgeable about the menu, happy to change the topping on my goats cheese pizza, the Watermelon and feta salad my wife had was absolutely beautiful!! Thanks Chef for 2 beautiful meals and cracking staff!!

We were seated straight away and offered drinks. The service was quick and the lovely girl who looked after us was very pleasant and helpful. One of the drinks needed changing and she did it quickly and with an apology. The food was lovely and so much choice and those who managed a dessert, really enjoyed it.

Staff were friendly, good eye contact and lots of smiles, making us feel welcome. Service was perfect, all the right timings. The temperature of the restaurant was ideal. Food was very good! Hallelujah, you serve vegetables! So tired of restaurants not having any veg for those who wish to enjoy healthy options. Will be back for Quiz night! :) Looks like a lot of fun.

Classic old school pub with low ceilings, but does really good gastropub food. Decent range of beer and wine as well. Book a table to be certain of getting in on a weekend.

Good food; but £14.50, in a pub, for a glass of red wine? Really? Also, on a Friday evening, this was the noisiest pub I've been in for many years. Couldn't hear what the people sitting opposite me at the table were saying.

Sunday roast was poor, very small portion for the price, everything tasted of the over vinegared over sweet red cabbage more than one of us found massive lumps of star anise in the food, 3 small potatoes, meat was OK, Cauliflower was not worth the money, barely any sauce, very little cheese. Wont return for sunday roast.

My friend and I are regular customers and enjoy the experience at Saracens Head. We used to move from one local pub/restaurant but decided there was no benefit as the service, food and atmosphere was best at Saracens. Whilst all of the team are superb, on this occasion (20/08/2024) Phoebe looked after us showing excellent care and attention.

Birthday ruined. Barely any food available and staff sent us away to choose new food only for food that was originally available when ordered to go out of stock. Surely they should tell us it's nearly out, or hold the order. Edit: Also not making us aware that you'd run out of all meat roasts until we attempted to order, even though the sign regarding Sunday roasts was still up outside. Then failing to tell us that you also didn't have any pizza when we tried to order that instead. The coke we purchased was also a bit flat.

Lots of parking space, swift reception, pleasant and friendly staff, extensive menu, pleasant atmosphere. Can get very busy on Sunday though. Book early on day if you want Sunday roasts.

Nicely placed under cover with heater,excellent service,pizza was straight from the oven,piping hot and very tasty.will be going again soon.

The staff were friendly and attentive without hovering over us. When there was a query with the bill it was amended with no question by the manager. We will be back I'm sure.

Food was tasty and arrived hot. There was a bit of wait because it was busy but I wasn’t in a rush so it didn’t matter. All the staff I encountered were friendly.

Really poor - took 10 minutes to get a drink at the bar, no wine glasses, half the foods out of stock - didn’t come over to tell us 3 out of 4 of our meals were out until 10 minutes after we originally ordered, no tables being emptied, didn’t get asked if we wanted any more drinks, and after all that the food was average, the chicken was awful - just don’t bother, go somewhere else.

Cloe was very attentive and made our dining experience all the better. We will be dining here again.

Used to come regularly food was fresh not frozen and meat from John penny, everything was made fresh sauces made the burgers themselves e t. Food was 10/10 staff incredible. We didn’t no it had been took over by Marstons. It’s now frozen food same menu burger came out burnt bun burnt frozen onion rings. We was given fresh burgers no problem but the bun was still burnt tough and chewy. I thought the food price was terrible for this quality of food. Won’t be returning again it’s gone down hill a lot. Staff friendly but not run like a Gaston pub it once was.

The food is pretty standard for a Marston's pub. However the difference is they do have a wood fired oven for pizza, the pizzas were okay, but the ingredients seemed cheap resulting in them being quite bland. The Steak selection was quite limited 8oz to 10oz which as one of our party commented "what's the point of that". Hence going for a pizza in the end. The salads were very well presented. It seemed extremely quiet for a a warm Saturday evening, when we arrived we were the only people in the restaurant with a handful of people outside and a near empty car park. The service was good, everyone being polite and courteous, although the staff seemed to be louder with eachother than the rest lf the restaurant, but I dont blame them it must have been boring with little to do. Can't fault it, but it's bang average, and I think that's because of Marston's running the place and the food just being run of the mill.

Really fancied fresh fish, and unwilling to wait for a slot at the uber in vogue Hatton Arms we decided upon a revisit to Y.O. Saracens Head. Real clever call: same helpful guys multitasking [ running the bar and taking food orders] fish and chips superb......but you HAVE to ask the key question! Answers on a postcard, yep I'm really thst analogue. 61 Deep is a fabulous draught beer and choice of wine and malts is more than adequate.

I always like the building and the staff are friendly. Drinks are ok but some more craft beer options would be good. Food is where I think you let yourselves down. My partner had a chicken and chorizo kebab that had 2 pieces of chorizo and three pieces of chicken. It seemed a bit mean. My burger was ok but I alway think burgers benefit from pickles and raw onion. French fries on both plates seemed scrappy. Very short almost like we’d got the end of a batch, you really need to look at the quality of the fries. And my coleslaw looked a bit sad and limp, didn’t seem fresh at all. Overall it was all just a bit average.

We recently visited for a large group celebration meal and I would highly recommend. Leading up to the meal the team were all really friendly , responsive and flexible to requests . We had a great private dining room and the service from Joshua on the day was brilliant - Thank you ! We will definitely come back .

As a special occasion for our best friends 40th wedding anniversary we chose to pay a visit 👍We were greeted at seated and allowed to chat before a staff member asked about drinks 👍When the drinks arrived we’d sorted out our choices off a well stocked menu 👍With it being a Sunday al 4 of us plumpt for the 3 roast meal and so glad we did 😋😋After the meal we were allowed to let the meal settle before ordering the sweet 👍 The only downside was the cost of the drinks which in my opinion only was a little steep (£10-00 for a large white wine) but on the whole a very good dining experience 👍

We've visited a number of times now and the food and service have always been excellent.

We were seated and took a while to take the order. My wife didn't want a big dish so order Prawn Cocktail as a starter. The waitress asked if she'd like it a little bigger that the starter to which she said yes. When the food was delivered 2 dishes were delivered a good 5 mins before a further 2. Then 2 Prawn Cocktails arrived not a larger one as we were told 2 portions. The team seemed pretty clueless on this. The place wasn't that busy atall and given the service and lack of attentiveness (we had to ask for a steak knife for my dad) I'm not surprised. The saracens head used to fantastic place dropped down quite a bit now.

The food is probably the worst portion size in comparison to the price you pay that I have ever encountered. I paid £16.50 for Hunters Chicken and chips which would not fill up a child. The chicken was around the size of 3 small bacon rashers. The 'salad' its served with is the most basic salad they could have thrown on, its just leaves from a salad bag. Sausage and mash: £15.29 for an adult. £6.99 for a Child. The only difference in those meals is 1 SAUSAGE EXTRA with the adult price, it is priced by an idiot. That's just one bad comparison.

Mediocre Sunday Roast but staff excellent

Given a nice quiet table as requested, great service, fantastic Sunday roast, it was sooooooo amazing, the red cabbage with the cinnamon apple taste and the crackling with the pork was perfect, the roasties were the perfect colour, the meat was lovely, the gravy was delicious, the puddings were immaculate. So glad we brought our relatives from Sydney here for their roast before their flight home :)

Very poor quality seating dirty

Poor experience for our wedding anniversary on 10th October, I had sirloin steak which was very sinewy and I couldn't eat it, the worst sirloin I've ever had. Service not quick even though restaurant only half full if that. Husband had a pizza which he enjoyed. What a shame.

My group had a terrible experience at Ye Olde Saracen, along with several other tables around us. Upon arrival, we had to wait 5-10 minutes for a waiter to seat us. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and even longer for our food order to be taken. Multiple tables around us experienced similar wait times, with one table of three waiting two hours for their main courses. When our food finally came, one of our ribeye steaks ordered medium-rare was well-done, leaving one person waiting while others finished their meals. Another table waited an hour for their starters before deciding to leave due to the wait. The recent menu change has caused chaos, and it appears there's been a management change as well, which has negatively impacted the restaurant. The waiters were doing their best, but it wasn't enough to offset the overall disorganization. We received one water pitcher for our table of eight and had to go to the bar to refill it ourselves. We asked for ketchup, which still had the sticker on it. All these issues contributed to a nightmare experience. Although we received a discount, it was clear that all tables were experiencing similar problems. We also noticed the managers arguing multiple times, which is not a pleasant sight while waiting for food. Overall, Ye Olde Saracen has gone downhill from its previous standards, and it desperately needs better management and organization to improve the dining experience.
