Ye Olde Saracen's Head in Solihull

A wonderful, friendly, welcoming pub with a great restaurant area and warm and cosy bar area. We ate in the bar area where the log burner was roaring. Service was great and the food was delicious! We will definitely be going back and recommending to friends.

Upon arrival we were shown to our table promptly and advised of the deals. However it soon became apparent that a large group were going to sit near us imminently. Large groups by nature become a little boisterous through no fault of their own where they are sat and sometimes unnerve smaller groups of people. Perhaps a specified area could be designated for groups of four or more

Took my wife out for a meal tonight (valentines)when the food was brought to our table,we were both shocked at not only the size,but the lack of side salad,peas.I had to pay extra for 2 mushrooms for my wife's plate, menu stated triple cooked skin on chunky chips,what we both got were frozen chips,for £21.50 for a 8oz steak only to get frozen chips is a bit hard to take.When we mentioned the food and that we'd leave a review ,he said "go on then,I don't care" when I pointed out what the menu said compared to what we received, the manager (I think)knocked our last drinks off the final bill.It was a total anticlimax to what should have been a nice afternoon for my wife and myself.........totally disappointed

Went for a lunch. Not sure if we just visited on a bad day but there was no welcome, food was tasty but arrived after a long wait and was just about hot enough to eat.

Marked down slightly for atmosphere simply because it was a Tuesday afternoon and there was hardly anyone in the pub. I'm sure it would have a great atmosphere at a busier time of day.

Second chance for the Saracens Head, last time was pretty poor this time was no real improvement, so that’s it for this pub. Steak was ordered medium rare and came out raw in the middle. They recooked it which had the effect of drying it out and burning the outside. Battered fish was greasy and overcooked. The chips appeared fresh out of the freezer. The staff have since said that a medium rare steak should be raw in the middle. I suppose that tells you all you need to know about their definition of raw and rare. God help them.

Lovely birthday lunch for 5 of us.

The online booking process is so simple and accommodating if you want to bring a dog. I had to call to add to my booking and the staff were so helpful and even remembered my name when we arrived. The staff are all very polite and welcoming. We had a table in the bar. Ordering was easy and we were informed about some unavailable items on the menu. We had 6 Sunday roasts ( 1 vegetarian ) and all six plates were clean when we finished. Added bonus of a new year discount code made for a lovely lunch. Will be back

Had not been here before but chosen due to location, for meeting up with friends for lunch. Place had a great feel to it with the staff friendly. There is a decent menu range, including for veggies and children. Most of us chose 2 courses from the lunch and early evening set menu. As it's been my big food discovery of the year, I went for the cauliflower wings for starters with the calamari for mains. Unfortunately it was realised, some time after we ordered that they had run out of calamari but that I could order anything else from the menu for the same price. This was a good offer and I went for the plant burger, which didn't disappoint. We were all too full for pudding and definitely a place to return to.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 pizzas which were delicious and very large, easily can be shared between 2. Triple cooked chips were really good and all the food came out hot. Nice pub with a nice bear garden. Only negative, you don't do blue light discount.

I booked to celebrate a friends birthday, table for 8 in the restaurant with service. Great position apart from the tables being split so felt difficult to enjoy the whole party’s company. Having said that, we were served 8 amazing main dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed by the whole party which from experience is hard to do it seems. Waiting staff were great, friendly, attentive and professional. There was a great atmosphere as lots of tables occupied. Did empty out after the early bird sittings but quickly filled again. We will be back for certain.

Always a warm friendly welcome. Great choice of food. And lunchtime special menu of 2 or 3 courses at great prices. Great that it’s dog friendly. With bowls of water and treats. Lots of space to seat and eat comfortably without sitting on top of others. Recommend Saracens Head as it’s a great country pub with great wholesome food.

Was our favourite place to eat when we lived locally, visiting again while in the area and did not disappoint, lovely food and great service, love the doggy refreshments table, great touch! And still serving one of the best chocolate brownies around!!!

We went there for a couple of pints after a nice country walk on Sunday. The atmosphere in the pub is good and service was great. They have water and treats available for dogs. We were a few, and got there around 3:30pm. At that time most of the space is dedicated to people ordering food (late Sunday lunches), and only a small area by the bar was available for drinks. There was no space there for us and the weather was good so we took a couple of outdoor tables in the back. The outside area is nice and tidy, and most tables have heating available. When we ordered drinks at the bar we were asked to let them know if we needed the heating turned on (it wasn't necessary), and when we were having drinks outside a member of staff came over to let us know that a table indoors had freed up. It's hard to get good service like that anywhere this days... I will be back.

Really nice place, friendly and well looked after. Lovely food and staff always will to help. Presentation of food could do with small tweaking to improve, although that didn't detract from good quality food and taste. Would recommend without thinking about it.

We had a large booking for 29 people. We did a pre-order. We had the most wonderful time. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. All the meals were correct and were delicious. The staff allowed us to set up an area for a cake. We were all seated together in our own area. We were so well looked after and we had such a fantastic evening.

Nice old pub with low wooden beams, etc. Friendly service, cosy, definitely a place to come and enjoy a meal. I popped in to sample the cask ale and was unimpressed.. just two Marston's ales available: Pedigree and 61Deep, neither of which was excellent.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful but the food was not great. I felt it was expensive for what it was. One of our guests found the Hunters chicken inedible and this was taken off the bill but it did spoil the evening.

The arrangements for our lunch including pre-ordering for were organised expertly by Chloe and, on the day, were spot on. The meal were universally praised by the 11 in our party. The wine was very good too. The efficiency of the service was outstanding and a special word for Sandie who was simply outstanding in looking after 11 boisterous ageing tennis players! A memorable afternoon. Thanks to all the team at Ye Olde....

Prompt service, great food, nice atmosphere

The staff were good but the Sunday roast leaves a lot to be desired. It came out after about 2 minutes so obviously nothing freshly cooked. Hard, overdone Yorkshire pudding that was obviously cooked a lot earlier, turkey slices that were clearly not fresh but were just reheated bought in slices that were completely tasteless. A few soggy, very sorry looking greens. The only item that could be classed as good were the roast potatoes.

The wait staff were polite, courteous and knowledgeable about the menu, happy to change the topping on my goats cheese pizza, the Watermelon and feta salad my wife had was absolutely beautiful!! Thanks Chef for 2 beautiful meals and cracking staff!!

We were seated straight away and offered drinks. The service was quick and the lovely girl who looked after us was very pleasant and helpful. One of the drinks needed changing and she did it quickly and with an apology. The food was lovely and so much choice and those who managed a dessert, really enjoyed it.

Staff were friendly, good eye contact and lots of smiles, making us feel welcome. Service was perfect, all the right timings. The temperature of the restaurant was ideal. Food was very good! Classic old school pub with low ceilings, but does really good gastropub food. Decent range of beer and wine as well. Book a table to be certain of getting in on a weekend.

Good food; but £14.50, in a pub, for a glass of red wine? Really? Also, on a Friday evening, this was the noisiest pub I've been in for many years. Couldn't hear what the people sitting opposite me at the table were saying.

Sunday roast was poor, very small portion for the price, everything tasted of the over vinegared over sweet red cabbage more than one of us found massive lumps of star anise in the food, 3 small potatoes, meat was OK, Cauliflower was not worth the money, barely any sauce, very little cheese. Wont return for sunday roast.

My friend and I are regular customers and enjoy the experience at Saracens Head. We used to move from one local pub/restaurant but decided there was no benefit as the service, food and atmosphere was best at Saracens. Whilst all of the team are superb, on this occasion (20/08/2024) Phoebe looked after us showing excellent care and attention.

Lots of parking space, swift reception, pleasant and friendly staff, extensive menu, pleasant atmosphere. Can get very busy on Sunday though. Book early on day if you want Sunday roasts.

Birthday ruined. Barely any food available and staff sent us away to choose new food only for food that was originally available when ordered to go out of stock. Surely they should tell us it's nearly out, or hold the order. Edit: Also not making us aware that you'd run out of all meat roasts until we attempted to order, even though the sign regarding Sunday roasts was still up outside. Then failing to tell us that you also didn't have any pizza when we tried to order that instead. The coke we purchased was also a bit flat.

Nicely placed under cover with heater,excellent service,pizza was straight from the oven,piping hot and very tasty.will be going again soon.

Really poor - took 10 minutes to get a drink at the bar, no wine glasses, half the foods out of stock - didn’t come over to tell us 3 out of 4 of our meals were out until 10 minutes after we originally ordered, no tables being emptied, didn’t get asked if we wanted any more drinks, and after all that the food was average, the chicken was awful - just don’t bother, go somewhere else.

Food was tasty and arrived hot. There was a bit of wait because it was busy but I wasn’t in a rush so it didn’t matter. All the staff I encountered were friendly.

The staff were friendly and attentive without hovering over us. When there was a query with the bill it was amended with no question by the manager. We will be back I'm sure.

Used to come regularly food was fresh not frozen and meat from John penny, everything was made fresh sauces made the burgers themselves e t. Food was 10/10 staff incredible. We didn’t no it had been took over by Marstons. It’s now frozen food same menu burger came out burnt bun burnt frozen onion rings. We was given fresh burgers no problem but the bun was still burnt tough and chewy. I thought the food price was terrible for this quality of food. Won’t be returning again it’s gone down hill a lot. Staff friendly but not run like a Gaston pub it once was.

The food is pretty standard for a Marston's pub. However the difference is they do have a wood fired oven for pizza, the pizzas were okay, but the ingredients seemed cheap resulting in them being quite bland. The Steak selection was quite limited 8oz to 10oz which as one of our party commented "what's the point of that". Hence going for a pizza in the end. The salads were very well presented. It seemed extremely quiet for a a warm Saturday evening, when we arrived we were the only people in the restaurant with a handful of people outside and a near empty car park. The service was good, everyone being polite and courteous, although the staff seemed to be louder with eachother than the rest lf the restaurant, but I dont blame them it must have been boring with little to do. Can't fault it, but it's bang average, and I think that's because of Marston's running the place and the food just being run of the mill.
