Ye Olde Rose & Crown Theatre Pub in Waltham Forest

Nice pub with good atmosphere... but extremely disappointing roast. It's giving microwave meal. Jamie olivers school dinners would not allow this.

Excellent community “theatre pub” with a real buzz about it. The only puzzling thing the last time I visited was that the bartenders didn’t seem to know the lineup for the shows. Serves an interesting range of beers and cask ales, including Extra Strong Bitter (the Three Legs Brewery version rather than the Fullers version). Cosy sofas, with a kids’ section at the back. Unfortunately no beer garden in the back, but theres a few benches in the front facing the road. There’s also a food menu with a lineup of rotating chefs (Afro-Caribbean on Tue, Thu and Sat; Roasts on Sundays). There are also numerous community advertisements, posters and flyers.

Lovely place. Smashing staff, good range of beers on and a cracking set of friendly regulars. Inconceivable, but a cracking boozer that happens to be a top notch venue too. Be transported back to the eighties, but in a good way! Well quick update, we're post covid and every time I've been back, still been cracking... Happily made it through troubled times for pubs intact. Another 2023 update, still the same great spot, lovely to see such a nice pub have a landmark "birthday" 2024 Update. Still rock solid with great people, great food and awesome range of quality drinks.

I went here to see the Diva Purple concert, it was amazing. Wide selection of drinks, kind and pleasant staff. I'll definitely be back and I absolutely recommend it.

Was in there for Beer Project evening. The service was very good for such a busy time. The Folk Club was playing in the background.

A top, family and dog friendly Pub. Great selection of beers, drinks and food. Family run establishment, with an excellent community caring vibe. Good music, bands etc, comedy - and a top-rated Panto each year too!

The beating heart of Walthamstow's evening life. Great beer, great entertainment, great atmosphere. Superb food three nights a week from the Calabash Kitchen - exotic, colourful and remarkably healthy Grenadian food.

Was nice for a drink with friends. Good cider.

The furnishings are stylish, the service is fast and attentive. Main courses on the well-balanced Greene King menu range from £13 to £17. I choose the “Flat Iron Steak (14-day-aged flat iron steak served with house-seasoned fries and blistered vine tomatoes with peppercorn sauce)”. Very tasty, until the "Battered Halloumi (With chilli jam, sour cream and pickled watermelon) piques my curiosity. A delicious combination that I will certainly recreate at home. Rose and crown is a solid little pub that never lets me down. Standard and reliable.

Great pub with live music on the weekends , not tried the food yet but it looks gorgeous. Went back and tried the food and it's very decent with generous portions.

Really lovely staff, and decent prices for good beer. Two pints of craft beer for less than a tenner in london is rare !! This venue is dog friendly and kid-friendly too. There was some live music but it wasnt so loud you couldn't still have a conversation. The gents toilets were a bit grim. I found the taps tempremental, and when i got caught out by my period realised there was no sanitary bin! Also, someone had tried to flush their undies (might have been avoided if there was a sanitary bin) which meant one of the cubicles was out of action - whichever member of staff had to deal with this deserves a pay rise!

Not enough seating but can be good fun

Six of us ordered food, it arrived 1 hour and 50 minutes later, around 10 pm. The food was unappetising both visually and in taste. It was £13 which is reasonable I suppose. Although it was busy there wasn't much atmosphere, a bit flat. Drinks price above average for the area. The band was good but a bit loud at first but it eventually levelled out. It didn't charge admission for the music which is a plus.

Great local pub. Massive, so you can always get a table. Brilliant, friendly atmosphere. Everyone is here - from the cool kids to your nan. Low key excellence.

Love this pub. I moved to the other side of London 2 years ago but still come here on occasion to drink with friends. Massively unpretentious and keeps it simple. Prices are still good too.

Really like it here. The nights where they have food it is phenomenal. Hot Pepper Lamb was my fav but the curried goat was also a hit.

A Clash tribute band were on but they were just warming up when we arrived so we had a chance to chat and catch up. My friend stayed on for the band but it was too loud for me, so I left.

Amazing experience. Have eaten here multiple times, especially for the Sunday roast. 100% recommned. Staff is very friendly and quick service.

Tried the food from their 'Cala-Bash kitchen' Generous portion and much going on (sides etc). Highly recommended.

Always get a great pint here. Always a great cask beer choice, usually an ELB beer which are second to none and Woodfords werry on quite often which is brilliant for a low ABV

Good ol' pub, one of the last standing! Bit of an old man pub but it's great for entertainment and reasonably priced beer (for London ...). They have a rotating selection of chefs so sometimes foods available, others not.

Perfect pub and the food by Calabash Kitchen is sensational Highly recommend.

We love it here. Super super friendly, they allow children in they don't have a curfew like most pubs in and around walthamstow which is nice especially when they have a band in my daughter loves a good boogie!

Lovely local pub with great atmosphere. They have music usually on Friday and Saturday Eve. Food was great. Give it a try, we will definitely come back again.

Lovely, unpretentious pub with ridiculously good and reasonable food. Staff are friendly, the space is great and the food by Calabash Kitchen is sensational - I can only speak to the vegan options but wow, delicious and good portion sizes too. Highly recommend.

I didn't eat there. I went to the small theater upstairs. They had a folk singing troupe doing their singing upstairs. They sang beautiful, sad songs about the fishing accident, which killed 58 men in the 60's.

Great pub. Friendly. Saw an amazing band 'Swingtime Serenaders', which was old jazz classics. Singer was superb. Will be back!

Traditional victorian pub with good range of local real ales. Good live music on Saturdays. Theatre upstairs. Back of pub could do with smartening up. Front very nice in a traditional way.

Wonderful friendly pub with a real community of welcoming locals. A proper boozer with a changing variety of superbly kept ales. Upstairs there's a surprisingly large venue, regularly used for comedy nights including some big names.

An immediate favourite. Classic, untouched original interior. A great selection of drinks, not just your typical big brand badges, but good local stuff, keg and cask. Minimalist menu with a choice just 5 different roasts and a few deserts, which I personally love. Swing band playing also. Such a great vibe.

Fantastic vegan food and always a friendly vibe. I’ve been at Ye Olde Rose & Crown many times for a curry by Calabash Kitchen or for the Sunday roast, and they never fail to impress—delicious food with a home-cooked vibe, plenty of vegan options, and great value for money. I’ve also brought my non-vegan friends here, and they loved the meat & fish options. Probably the best pub for vegans in Walthamstow.

Easily the best pub in walthamstow, and one of the last proper pubs left! Great food and drinks, really friendly landlord and staff, it really is great.

A great selection of real ales, nice staff and atmosphere. Food from Calabash kitchen on certain days which is delicious (the vegan platter is amazing, and huge!). Live music and other entertainment (panto, comedy etc) upstairs. Recent beer festival was top notch.

Old Victorian spacious pub that retains a certain quaintness. Was there for some west country real ales which were enjoyed by all.

As most of old London pubs are closing so fast and day to day it's less and less such nice and classical London bubs where anyone can come to socialise with interesting people and enjoy the pint. The Ye Olde Rose &Crawn can be the right choice.

The Granadan food is some of the best food I've had in London and the people that cook it are super friendly. I highly recommend it!

One of my favourite pubs in Walthamstow. Yes - the decor is a bit outdated, but the beer selection is good and the staff is friendly. They also have different food options depending on the day - calabash kitchen on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays is one of my favourite food options in the area and worth a visit on its own.

Good prices, at least for what I had

Very good pub not far from Walthamstow Central Station. Five cask beers on handpump when I last visited including a chocolate stout. Frequently has music on Friday and Saturday evenings. A few tables outside. The pub also has a theatre upstairs where, amongst other things, Walthamstow Folk Club operates every Sunday evening.

Complete waste of time, came with disabled friend from Edinburgh, arrived just after 3pm, no sign of anyone, no one answered phone, took hours to get here just to find closed doors, even after checking website several times, opening at 3pm, apparently not, never again

Probably the best pub in Walthamstow. Still a proper boozer. Good pop-up food offering. Decent range of cask. Live band now and then. Theatre upstairs that I must go to. Open late. Long may it stay open and stay the same.

Great evening launching the Walthamstow Beer Project 'green hopped ale' made in conjunction with East London Brewery. Pub was packed!

Nice atmosphere other than how brightly lit it was.

Very decent pub. A strong aroma of gammon or bacon hung in the air which made my other half stop 0.75kg of smoked bacon on the way back. (Must have been good) £18.50 for two pins two pints and a double spirit and mixer. Typical Walthamstow prices. Nice artwork, friendly staff. Shall come again.

Exceptional community pub. Perfectly-kept real ale, served efficiently but with a smile. Strikes the perfect balance of retaining character, without being a dive. Fabulous Caribbean food served some days too. Long live the R&C!

David's food is DELICIOUS and the portions are very generous - cooked with love and so much flavour! I can't recommend this enough.
