I've lived around here for years, and this used to be the sort of place where you got what you paid for. It was not flashy or high-quality, but it was a solid, old-fashioned boozer where you could get a cheap ale and some pub grub while watching the football. Now you don't even get that. In the last few months, new management has wrecked what little quality this pub had. It's constantly understaffed (sometimes just one person serving a full bar), the kitchen has been permanently closed, they have barely half the drinks on tap most days, and it seems like you need a degree in electrical engineering to use the speaker system, because not one member of the team ever knows how to change the feed. It doesn't help that staff turnover is turning over like a washing machine (obviously they're as unhappy as we loyal customers are). It was never fancy to start with, but now it has really gone down the pan, and it shows because people who used to come here all the time now go elsewhere. Meanwhile, the prices just go up and up. I know this isn't the fault of the people who do their best working there; it's the management's problem. Sadly, if you're after anything more than your third-choice drink served very slowly by underpaid and undervalued staff who don't want to be there anymore than you do, then go to the Chequers instead, a great pub on Walthamstow High Street. It's a bit dearer, but they do good food, it's cosier, the atmosphere is always fun, and they have multiple screens where you can watch live sports with commentary. I waited a long time before posting this review, because I wanted to give the new era a chance over several visits, but it just ain't working.

New manager steff is great!! I wrote a review of this pub years ago which is now not revenant. That's because of the new manager steff, she honestly has changed the pub back into a lovely place to go. She and her staff shan and lola are really great together. We had a funeral there recently and steff could not have done enough for us to make everything perfect. They all made the best night and I know the manager will continue to make this pub a center of the community again.

Variable, not currently serving real ale, also no listing which nights are karaoke or live music. Shame as I could avoid those nights as I prefer to keep my hearing. Still when I know the above, and they get back real ale I'll be happy to go there.

Sticky floors. Running out of everything. Atmosphere aggressive. Screeching voices arguing with each other. Gone down hill.

Not very impressed 😐 staff need to be told what baths are as the both smelt of bad B.O also lady's toilets in great need of a clean as of the whole pub, shame really as used to be a nice clean place ...... won't be using pub anymore 😕

Not impressed... Two large barstaff males were laughing uncontrollable just as they were about to serve me.. obviously the customer before me they were laughing at them.. I thought their behaviour was disgusting and disrespectful towards their customers.. one of the bar men badly smelt of Body odour and the toilets were smelly puddles of urine and water we visible.. we decided not to eat here on the evidence we had witnessed.. The people in the pub seemed friendly enough.

Spent the evening here back along. Had a great night with my friends. Will defo going back there again

Large pub with no dividing walls fairly traditional. Only 2 cask pumps. Has special offer days. For example Tuesday has Cask beers for £2.95. Some daysctte special is food.

nice pub, i was watching the football and realised they got a big garden out the back with some big TVs and plenty of light out there, i bet in the summer its booming looks like a proper good sun spot to chill, will definately be back

I went to the karaoke on friday night, so apparently it is the last friday of every month and to be fair that was a good night with my mates sang a few songs and had a laugth i loved it. Its a nice big pub also the food was pretty good got some small plates and they have coktails too cant wait for the next one will be coming back here

Not the best food and not the best variety of drinks. Good place for a pint and football Fish and chips was not as bad as other dishes

The main aim seems to be to shut as early as possible, don’t know what the manager thinks about that.

I didn't know places like this still existed. I live in the area and wanted to give it a go with a girlfriend. We were the only women and felt it. The extensive menu was limited to just some of the starters and burgers. I went for a bunch of starters and they were unremarkable. Similarly the flavoured gins advertised were missing. The football was on but even so, I can't say it retained a charm that might attract another clientele, shown by the handful of people in the big space. The decor isn't bad and it was clean, so don't think it would take much to turn it around a bit. I would love to return with an updated menu and improved drinking and dining experience, seems a shame to be missing out on the growing population of Walthamstow.

The worst bar meal experience I have ever had for over 20years at a London pub.Many items on the menus were “out of stock” even though we had a 2.00pm Sunday Reservation. Settled for a chip starter to share and had to ask for 4 sets of cutlery. It was supposed to have toppings of chicken,bacon,cheese and sticky barbecue sauce. Very little of each BUT then also NO BARBECUE SAUCE !!!!!! As a main meal, as we could not have our original choices, we resorted to the old faithful Beer battered Cod and Chips with tartare sauce and peas. A beautiful picture on the website and menu What a DISASTER. No jokes, the fish was like a piece of cardboard. It was 7 inches long, 1and a half inches wide and ONE EIGHTH OF AN INCH THICK. And no tartare sauce and when queried was told very rudely that IT WAS OUT OF STOCK. DIGUSTING and I had to pay at the bar when placing the order so didn’t have the option to refuse payment. I will NEVER visit this pub EVER again.

Horrendous service. Rude waitress, food was so bad - everything we asked for was out of stock and when we eventually settled for fish and chips they brought it without tartare sauce because that too was out of stock. Waitress then shouted as us when we questioned why we weren’t told.. Tables were sticky and so were the menus. Never going back there again.

Terrible food oily fish, dry chips no tartar sauce available and when we asked for it we were shouted at by the bar lady, some foods on the menu were not available I will not be returning

We got kicked out of our pool table just because a local threatened us and said he was living here for 26 years and he knew everyone. He left a coin on our table which apparently meant we have to leave. Security was on his side, because they knew him. I told my friend that it's not worth the hassle and we found a normal table to finish our drinks. We thought we are locals too, we don't feel so anymore. After that, that same local came up to me and asked me "Do you have a problem with me, because you are staring at me". He looked aggresive, i said "No do you have a problem with me?" and we left shortly. Where was security when he tried to threaten me??? My friend wanted to fight him and i was the one who de-escaleted the problem in the first place...

Great Pub, great Fish and Chips too, I took my father there for lunch on a Saturday and we were welcomed by friendly staff, clean tables and a great pint of GUINNESS, very good prices too. I am looking forward to my next visit.

We hired the private room and booked the buffet for 20 people for my brothers wake.The food was excellent, the service was superb .We had the room for the whole day, to arrange how we liked.We set up the tables ,added tablecloths, and flowers, then left it up to the pubto provide the buffet.There was more than enough good wholesome food, including assorted sandwiches ,fried chicken wings, mini burgers, nachos with guacamole and salsa with sour cream, sausages, onion rings, hunters chicken with chips and chicken gougons.All of it cooked to perfection and served beautifully. We had delicious coffee and drinks from the bar.The staff could not have been more helpful.Thankyou manager and staff for making us so welcome.We would definitely recommend this pub to anyone wanting a good time with good food and helpful service .The only drawback is there was no disabled access to the private room,but the manager was happy to have wheelchair users in the public area downstairs.

Does what it does well. Great for sport. Loved being able to watch the boxing in the garden. Four pool tables is a rarity these days! Good variety of characters to chat to. haven't tried the food but am sure it's fine. Nice landlord/manager.

Best pub in North London. Walk in with a twenty and you'll come out, to the immaculate, homely yet spacious, beer garden, with a burger, chips, and 4 pints of Carlsberg - and still have change left over to indulge in the wide selection of pub quiz machines.

Beautiful pub close to blackhorse Road station inside is beautiful and they have a great selection of drinks and food. There are also few pool tables if you fancy a game. There is a big beer garden at the back and the place is clean and well maintained.

Proper pub, true to itself. Lovely staff. The cooking is of the ‘by numbers’ variety, and probably not very healthy, but it tastes good, so I’m not complaining

This is Walthamstow's most authentic and, in my opinion, iconic classic East London pubs. The photos and memorabilia on the walls speak of its origins while the recently developed bar and lounge are far more modern. The Lord Palmeston is a locals pub. They serve excellent food and drink at affordable prices. If you enjoy playing pool there are 2 tables here. If you want to play darts this also available. Loads of tvs for watching sports, there's also a beer garden. DJs play here often at weekends. There is no parking available at or around the pub but Blackhorse Road is a 10 minute walk away and there are several bus links very close by.

On Sunday…walked for miles looking for good vegetarian/vegan roast . This place has it honestly the best Sunday Roast I’ve had for a long time. Friendly staff.

Only popped in quickly. Seemed a nice friendly atmosphere. Clean and tidy place. Only thing to say on the food is meeh... isnt terrible and is fairly priced but just meeh. 4 good quality pool tables in the back. Obviously not used very much and not advertised enough could be a good sports venue too. Think its not sure of its identity or perhaps prefers to be a pub diner

Small pub on forest road. Nice atmosphere, beer is cheap and staff quite friendly. I’m personally not a fan of karaoke.. not on a Saturday night, music was a little loud too, but we definitely have had a good time.

Decent pub. Has big screens to watch the match in the pool tables area. Staff are sound enough and the place is kept well, clean and spacious. Reasonable selection of beers on tap. Also had a Monday pool club which is kind of cool

The Palmerston has been refurbed over the Covid period and it now looks quite nice with a large beer garden out the back. It was previously a traditional boozer with lots of older East end patrons and a large eastern contingent but not somewhere that would appeal to much outside this group. The update seems an attempt to attract a more upmarket clientele. Lots of the area seems to be going through the widespread gentrification. The staff seem pleasant but the food is generally pretty poor...think ready meal. The exception to this is the all day breakfast- it is surprisingly good quality and value. I would highly recommend. If they want to widen their custom to the hoitey bunch they will need a new menu, a proper chef and some proper wine glasses. Got potential bit needs some work.
