Really nice refurb! The whole place has been done up recently and the atmosphere is great, worth every penny and definitely compliments the vibe of this lovely seaside village.

We parked up nearby for a dog walk along the beach and noticed this pub was dog friendly so stopped in for lunch. Lovely decor, and filled up pretty quickly. The host was fantastic, very helpful and ensuring a lovely atmosphere with all the guests. We had Mediterranean Seabass and it was delicious! Beautifully cooked , lots of flavour! Couldn’t fault it at all.

What a strange place !! Day before me and my husband was due to go to the hotel I noticed they had took the payment for my room but then another £80 odd had been took also, we phoned the hotel to be told Tony had " accidentally " used my bank details to pay for someone els booking and rather than transferring it back into my account he gave us a credit and was adamant for us to use it in his pub .. in total I paid £180 odd to them with no intention of giving me my money back . Becouse of the mess up he offered to upgrade to front room , I had paid £104 for the room with new moden bathroom to be given old dated room with bath falling to bits . When my husband asked for the remaining money back that we hadn't used on the "credit" he came across rather rude and didn't want to give money back . Think we was only people there out of all the rooms .went down in evening to have a drink was nobody there very quite and VERY expensive nearly £20 for 2 vodka and orange juice! will not be going back !!! Such a Shame as arnside is a lovely place

Disappointed. Location is pretty and that’s it. In our room we found mould on the bathroom ceiling and walls. Toilet seat was filthy. I contacted hotel to ask about gluten/dairy free options, i was told there’s plenty options. When we got there turns out they have nothing… they gave us plane rice and veg next to it to eat anything. We spend rest of weekend circling around villages looking for something suitable to eat. Misselling.

Came here as had a wedding nearby and wanted to grab a dinner after a long drive. Had booked (definitely do this) and was glad we had, as they were fully booked for the night - please do note that they don't overcrowd their restaurant, or overload their chef, so they're not always able to accommodate walk-ins. Dinner was calamari (some of the best we've had this side of the Channel), lasagna, steak and ale pie, and sorbet/ice-cream. I have literally no complaints about any of it - all was exactly what I'd hope from a good English pub. Meanwhile the staff were attentive and friendly without being invasive, absolutely lovely.

We were staying in Arnside for a week and decided to try this establishment for dinner. I rang the pub 5 times to try to book a table but the line kept saying mailbox is full. We decided to walk to it as it was only around the corner and was only just afternoon, explained that we had been phoning but couldn’t get through however we’ve walked it to ask for a table for 7pm. There was nobody in and the reply we got was, we can’t fit you in at that time because we are fully booked after 5pm, we replied, what about tomorrow. She said fully booked every day I’m afraid but I might be able to fit you in for lunch, so I said what times do you have available, she said we’re very busy but would 2:30pm be ok, we said yes ok and went for a walk. We arrived back at 2:25pm, (still empty). We ordered a pint of Moretti, a bottle of rekorderlig cider and an orange juice. We were then pointed to our reserved table in the corner. We scanned the menu and all agreed that the lasagna would be the best option. The food came out about 20 minutes later and was quite tasty for a piece of lasagna, side salad and 2 pieces of garlic bread. While we were eating, two separate couples entered and asked if food was available to be told no sorry were too busy. (There was only us, a table of 3 in). I finished my Moretti half way through the meal and tried to get attention from the bar to no avail, I had to go to the bar to purchase another drink whilst my food was sat waiting for me to return. No check back was ever carried out which I must say is a first for me. We finished our meals and was quite happy until we went to pay. £72 for 3 lasagnas, 2 lagers, 1 cider and an orange juice. We paid and left. Both people I was with have both worked in the hospitality industry for many years and both said they’d never seen anything like that and that the place should be an absolute gold mine. Never again!

We were working locally and decided we would go to a pub for lunch. Arnside was heaving as was The Albion and cafes. We hadn’t time to wait for 45 mins at the Albion so carried on to The Fighting Cocks along the prom. We should have known how bad it would be as there were only 4 customers looking very miserable. We looked at the menu and both plumped for the Day’s Special - Ham, eggs, chips, peas. I went to the ladies - 3 cubicles all of which were absolutely disgusting. I tried flushing the third - no joy, went back to the others and flushed them clear. Staff need to check these toilets frequently. The meal arrived and were put in front of us without comment. The ham was off, it was going green. The chips were partially uncooked but the chip fat oil tasted rancid, the eggs and peas were ok which is all I ate. Two young girls were behind the bar and without any further customers had plenty of time to ask if all was ok. I would have said something then but we just walked out. Does the owner/manager not look at the rest of the catering establishments in the village and wonder why his pub is the only one nearly empty? I mentioned it to one or two locals we know and they said no local would go near the place, the food is renowned for being truly awful. Come on guys, this pub should be a gold mine.

Review written after a stay of not just one visit / meal but a booking of five days. Single rooms were all booked so I was offered a double room at an extremely good (on my side) rate. The room was clean and tidy with a very comfortable bed along with a modern en-suite. This is an establishment giving guests good quality meals, both breakfasts and dinners were first rate plus what for me was a great bonus in first grade cask ale. Interaction with team members was always convivial even during the busiest of times. I have not a single concern in recommending Ye Olde Fighting Cocks to those looking for a relaxing stop off or stay in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB.

Our room was on the top floor, the hallway absolutely stunk of urine/ imonia. Which seemed to be coming from the owners apartment. This could be smelt in pur room. When we raised this on our first nigh, we were assured this must be a wild cat & the carpets would be cleaned the next morning they were not, and we had to injure the smell untill we left. We booked a meal in the restaurant, Suf & Turf, one stake medium & the second medium rare, they both came incinerated. We raised this & they replaced them, still over cooked by my standards, second bit in i had a long curly hair between my teeth, that was wrapped around the stake. We cancelled our breakfast. & went to bed hungry! The next morning we discovered one of the towles was very stained. They didn't clean the room, empty the bin or fetch us fresh towels on our second day. i had to request fresh towles. Arnside is a lovely little place, but we will Not be staying here ever again.

We chose the burger on brioch bun, which was very well presented and tasty. Service was a little disorganised as I believe the staff member was new and a little unsure of what was available drink wise etc.Main concern was that none of the staff were wearing masks but were very officious to ensure that customers used the NHS app before entering - ironic! Stopped off here while travelling through Arnside. We decided to sit outside as the weather wasn’t too bad. Our other halves went in to sign in and order a drink for us all. The bloke walking around inside roared at them for just walking in even though there are no signs anywhere outside to say you have to wait outside. They didn’t walk up to the bar, they stopped at the podium set up inside where you wait to be seated and scan the NHS QR Code. They were then instructed we couldn’t sit outside as they need to know who is in the pub, again none of this is signposted. So we went inside and sat down. I asked for a latte to be greeted with a huff and told to wait while he checked if their machine was working - it wasn’t. I then asked for a Diet Coke instead with ice. Once we’d put our order through the bloke repeated it, when he got to my Diet Coke he’d put no ice. I corrected him and advised I’d like ice. Again another huff. We found him incredibly rude and we felt uncomfortable. A family came in behind us and waited by the podium. They asked to be seated outside to be met with the same hostility and shambles of an excuse. They turned around and left. In hindsight we should’ve done the same. There’s a nice little pub down the road where you could sit outside and the staff actually looked like they enjoyed their job. If you hate customer service and have no people skills don’t get a job in customer service.

My husband and myself visited the Ye Olde Fighting Cocks Arnside as we often do when staying at the Willowfield. We were disappointed not to be able to eat at 7p.m and then not to be able to book for the weekend. However we stayed for a drink later on at 8pm which we enjoyed and the guy who was probably the owner was attentive. He put the football on and we stayed for an hour. However, I have a very serious concern. HE is giving out false information about track and trace app. HE told me we had to download the App for service, which is not correct and is discrimination. The tracking and trace information as a visitor may well be compulsory but you have a choice on how this is done. The APP IS NOT COMPULSORY AND IT IS NOT LAW TO MAKE IT COMPULSORY FROM NEXT WEEK. You can also sign the form manually with a number and name which we did. The owner then told us he will allow us to do it this once but from next week its law that they cannot accept us without the App.This is misleading and incorrect information and he knows it. Track and trace information is compulsory, forcing you to scan and download the App is not. Millions of people cannot download the App, many are elderly or disabled. This is discrimination. I am disappointed and hope this person gets educated on the facts, not his pet thing about the App. It's not compulsory for people to have the App, you can give information via pen and paper, so stop trying to force customers to use the App, when the majority of us can't and put the sign in form back as an alternative. Maybe then the bar will not be empty.

We decided last minute to call in the Ye Old Fighting Cocks for a beer and a bite to eat. On entering there is a sign on the door saying “Enter and wait to be greeted”We were called over to the bar and were asked what we wanted. A drink and a look at the bar food menu we said and asked where we could sit. We repeatedly had to ask for the food menu, one menu arrived between 4 people, 2 minutes later the waitress came back and asked if we were ready to order but I asked for another 5 minutes as not all of us had seen the menu. You’ve got 2 minutes we were told as the kitchen was closing soon. 1 sausage sandwich, 1 Ham sandwich and 1 Fish Finger sandwich and 3 sides of chips, sweet potato, fries and normal chips. After we had ordered, more people came in and sat down at one of the empty tables, it was 3.30 pm and the lunch rush was over so they weren’t that busy. The table that the newcomers sat at hadn’t been cleaned or sanitised, just glasses cleared. They asked for the food menu and weren’t hassled into ordering quickly.Apparently the kitchen was not closing after all.I had the normal chips, small tub for £3.95! These looked they were recycled leftovers from other diners plates! As we are new residents in a nearby village we hoped this could become a new local for us BUT we won’t be returning. What with the unhelpful miserable staff, mediocre beer and rubbish food and condiments handled by many (vinegar bottles) there are much better second or even third rate places we can spend our hard earned money without potentially contracting something dangerous.

We tried this pub never been before we live quite local not a tourist .Initially probably all geared up for covid ...but sustaining systems not evident. No rules how many in the toilets, just tape which covered the middle sink implying 2 only ...but not clear. Anyone could come in and out no signs . Had to go to the bar to get the attention of the staff several times, as the electronic call system on the tables not working. Food not great and expensive for basic fare. Chips expensive as additional to main meals and sweet potatoes the best we tried 3 options between us do we could compare and contrast. What was to be a quick inexpensive lunch wasnt really. We were never asked how our food was ? ....good practice to get immediate feedback and costs nothing enhances customer relationships. We watched one table leave and it was not cleaned or sanitised. Vinegar in containers which were used by different customers so could carry infection. The rest if the condiments single use.We discussed the meal when we finished and all if agreed not worth coming back for the service, the money and the general atmosphere...shame as the views over arnside superb the best thing out if the whole deal...Yes it was disappointing and staff not really bothered, not full either, steady but not full on ...so expected better. Went to Arnside last night and had the best fish and chips in some time. The homemade burgers really are homemade and delicious. Food was hot and quick. Atmosphere with a sunset. Can't beat it, the view... Beautiful Can't recommend enough. Went with a starving dad in work clothes and kids... No problem we felt very welcome and we will return and bypass the albion any day of the week! Thanks to the cheff and the bar guy. Delicious food faultless.

Sadly our food was sub standard compared to last time...and I know a chef quit that very day we arrived and ate, but that is where the landlord/lady steps in and becomes sioux but sadly no...we got served because we were staying there...but they turned away dozens of people. Considering there are almost no restaurants left in the village, turning people away was ludicrous. The landlord clearly is an "admin" guy and not willing to muck in...sort of explains the attitude of the staff. Such a shame...A proper shame. I'll not be returning next year...will spend my filthy lucre in Silverdale instead, which is 1000 times more accepting. Shame...proper shame. I know my business only amounts to spending £3-400 at the Cocks each year...but I'm not the only one...times that by a 1000 people and it suddenly becomes a LOT of lost revenue in the year. So Thwaites...if you read this. Pay me their wages and get me in there...and I will turn that place around. It just needs someone who gives a ship

Odd atmosphere in the pub as if there is perma-tension between the staff and the landlord. Incredible decision to wallpaper ALL the walls with mock brick wallpaper just like Arthur Fowlers in Eastenders in the 80s. Very tasteful!I paid £10 for two warm pints of beer (one with a hair in) and two backs of crisps like you would get out of a supermarket multi pack. In this part of Lancashire there are better choices for sure. The pub has a wonderful view but this does not redeem it from the complacency that has obviously set in.

Visited with my partner and his partners Sunday evening at around 6.30pm.I rang up hours earlier to ask if we needed to book and what time they served food until the guy who answered the phone didn't know what time food stopped! Eventually sorted. Was told didn't need to book.Arrived and sport was on 4 TVs which is fine so we moved to a quieter area to be told we couldn't sit there as we hadn't booked!Table was dirty and was never cleaned.Staff were so STRESSED to the point of coming across as abrupt/rude. E. G. answering phone whilst serving customers at the bar who are trying to talk to them!! The two roasts arrived with no roast potatoes and were like school dinners. They were advertised as homemade chicken and beef (def no beef on my plate) The spaghetti was flavourless and had nearly been eaten before the garlic bread arrived to accompany it.No one did a check back.Staying in Arnside for 2 more nights will Not be coming back.

Fantastic view from the pub, food just about average but the biggest problem is the landlord who has a very high opinion of himself. Seems to make the rules up as he goes along regarding where dogs can go in the pub.

Am thinking are we now paying for the upgrade?........Ahhh well £8.30 a round at the Albion down the road so we will have a lovely day out tomorrow at the Lakes & go to the Albion for an affordable round & friendly, music enticed atmosphere......& we won't stay here again because we feel a bit "ripped off" with no friendly welcome . Wonderful meal.. that is if you enjoy the smell of raw sewage and being spoken to with absoloute disrespect. Rude service food was ok but the smell was just too much. A man in the back behind the bar was also shouting at staff and swearing which normally wouldn’t be too much of an issue but had my 4 year old twins with me who don’t need to hear about how much of a useless c**t the chef was. Overall a torrid experience and feel stupid for not requesting my money back. Hopefully they will use the money from the overpriced mediocre food to fix the drains.

Booked and arrived Sunday at 19:30. Fairly busy bar area, children and pretty loud. Majority of people, including bar man appeared pretty drunk. Table was laid out the this area. Not ideal. Asked to sit in restaurant area that was totally empty and told they have set up for breakfast so could sit here but only in a corner out of the way. Decided bar option was the better choice. Had steak pie which was mediocre but edible.Real shame as pub has great views and restaurant looks nice. Would not return here though for drinks or food. Has a scruffy weatherspoons feel to it I'm afraid. I totally can't be described as posh (from inner city Bradford) was too shabby for even me!

Having drawn a blank at The Albion (the other pub on the front at Arnside) who had “kitchen issues”, and no food, we headed for Thwaites’ other establishment. Here a sign on the bar said that unless you had a pre-booking you couldn’t get food. The reason: they had run out of food and were saving what they had for some parties who had already booked. What a sad state of affairs. A beautiful summers day, a delightful seaside resort, and a pub that is so badly managed it had no food! The previous weekend had been pretty poor and I doubt if food sales had been that good, and irrespective of that, wouldn’t you still have enough food?? Thats your business!!!

Visited for some food, ordered drinks, £7 for a pint lager, a diet coke and a glass of tap water . Ordered food and waited quite a while considering there were not many people In that weren't already eating. I ordered the Sunday roast at around £11 got 1 floret of overcooked cauli, 1 floret of mushy broccoli and 2 overcooked soggy carrots, 3 small roasts that were hard in the middle. Beef and mash was ok but plate was swimming in gravy, certainly not worth the money. My mum had a cheese and onion pasty, it was overcooked, dry and with barely any filling in. Certainly wont go again.

We were assigned the Beetham suite - upstairs room in complex behind the pub itself. Lovely decor, but.....weather outside 24 degrees and heating left on full blast, no window opened (we arrived at 7pm). No phone to main building (for a fan), creaking floors can be heard all over the complex and given price point, usual contingent shouting and talking at top of voice coming into complext up to midnight, slamming doors. Breakfast passable (one measibly rasher of bacon) and cold shower in morning, means we won't be coming back for sure! Restaurant down the road was great though and Arndale is definitely worth a visit! :-)

Weekend away, on arrival we were shown to our room and discovered that bath panel was hanging off the bath which my husband had to fit back in. We then found out we had no loo roll, this was rectified quickly. However, after a stroll on the prom, we returned to our room to freshen up before dinner and found that the TV remote wouldn’t work. I went to reception and the staff came to the room to replace the batteries. However, this didn’t solve the problem, and when we did manage to get the tv to work, it had a hissing sound coming from it so the TV had to be replaced. We went down for dinner expecting to eat and then watch a singer or band as on the website it states evening entertainment on Saturdays but at 9pm the bar emptied and all that was playing was music on the radio... disappointing to say the least.

Arrived for a late lunch at 3 ish, although looked busy with families not many eating. Placed our order, a curry and a burger and waited 45 mins- we enquired were our food was and the owner went to check. He came back again asking what we ordered then returned saying they are busy, “its mayhem” & there is no rice!! I was then served an awful and warm plate of chips, chiken curry & small portuiin of rice which was returned as it was barley warm & in edible. My husband had a burger but could not digest it as it was so?? firm and again no taste etc- we received a flippant apology from bar staff , not once did they check if meals were ok or offer something else. Would never eat here again!!

Menu options look good at first glance, however only on receiving our meal we realised it's a rip off, we ordered Scampi and chips priced at £11 (something special you may be wondering) Nope, 7 small overcooked pieces of scampi, soggy salad (which consisted of a piece of wet lettuce) with a quarter piece of tomato and slice of cucumber and chips. Apart from being soggy from the wet lettuce the chips were the best things on the plate. Trawler pie next £12, the pie was a maximum 15mm thick, just enough depth to cover with mash the 3 prawns and one cube of salmon which I managed to find. A couple of chopped carrots and some steamed cabbage, none of this excuse for a meal was worth paying for - I now know why you have to pay before the meal, I suggest anyone who reads this eats prior to paying. In summary garbage and never eating there again.

What a strange attitude of the owner /manager. Greeting a new guest with sarcasm was not a good start. Obviously doesn't need new business. Taking our booking and money before advising us the restaurant would be closed so we couldn't cancel and go elsewhere did not help and then being told where to sit for breakfast put the tin hat on it.
