We called in for lunch. When my wife googled what falafel was on menu,we were rebuked by the barman as this place is a "tech detox" establishment. So we asked the headmaster/bartender what it was he said "kind of odd balls"So we Finnished our drinks and left.Hope you have a better visit than we did.Make sure you have done all your homework before entering though.

Visiting from the U.S., , we stayed here on night during a weeklong road trip around the north of England. It was thoroughly relaxing and comfortable. Very clean, the food was good, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. In fact, the staff was very kind about explaining British food and making recommendations. We had a really enjoyable stay. And because of our experience, we decided to try other Sam Smith's Inns. We highly recommend the Heversham Hotel. We are hoping for an opportunity to return.

In a word fantastic. Two quality nights of peace tranquillity at a fine location. Excellent accommodation, great breakfast, good pint, good value and friendly staff. This how to modernise a small public house/hotel without losing the beautiful charm of the original period style and history. Well done. Not the featureless 'gourmet pub' trend which has killed so many establishments after the Hooray Henries have moved on after been “seen” and charging it on their lucrative expense accounts. Its only £3 a pint, how hard up are they if they cannot afford to use cash? No smelly wet dogs to trip over or arrogant look and listen to “me” types whilst they use the latest phone to annoy you. It is heaven. Will be back.

Made a fairly short notice booking for ourselves and two friends last night. Manager and staff very polite and friendly. Excellent Sam Smith beer, good selection of food all under £10 for a main course. Cheese and onion pie, chips and veg excellent, chicken pie similarly so. Fish and chips also very good - crisp batter, good sized fish. Reasonably priced desserts although not big selection. Coffees only £1.50. Place was very clean. No mobile phones or dogs allowed. Only cash accepted. These are the requirements of the company owner. All beers and lagers are Sam Smith's but all excellent. The hotel has been completely re built in recent years and is very tastefully finished. Photos of bedroom look very smart but no TV. I understand from customers in the hotel that they are very reasonably priced. Hotel is not highly visible on A6 with only a small sign but well worth a visit if you like quality albeit simple food in 0leadant surroundings at a reasonable price and can pay in cash and don't need to use a mobile phone.

We were supposed to be camping nearby, but due to a poorly folding camper we ended up having to quickly find a hotel whilst we waited for repairs to be done to our camper. Heversham hotel came up trumps, not only with a well appointed accessible room as I am disabled, with excellent vegetarian cooked breakfasts and in our last week evening meals as well. Darryl was a wonderful host, who bent over backwards to accommodate us. We were able to tricycle around the site which is my only means of exercise.the hotel wasn’t fazed when I needed to go to the hospital as I managed to get an infection after my recent mastectomy operation. All in all we had a wonderful time, going on trips on lake Windermere and the steam railway. Heversham hotel makes a lovely base for exploring the area and my husband was able to visit nearby fells.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Joshua Sheridan's recent review of this public house. As a loyal customer of Sam Smith's, (SS), Brewery for many years, I have noted with great dismay that several of its fine pubs have recently been boarded up, including the Greyhound at Killinghall, The Borough Bailiff in Knaresborough, and the cavernous Dyneley Arms at Bramhope, Otley, which, like the Heversham Hotel, (previously The Bluebell), was extensively, and very tastefully, re-furbished at enormous expense, not long ago. For me, the two main reasons for seeking out SS pubs have been the very reasonably priced beers and the quality of the, often listed, buildings. Unfortunately a recent draconian price increase across the full SS range has meant that drinks no longer have a competitive edge: to give an example, a pint of SS draught stout now costs the same as a pint of Guinness. The price charged for all SS draught beers has increased by a minimum of £1 per pint or more. To add insult to injury, there is no continuity as regards the staffing of this once-excellent pub. Since the comprehensive refurbishment a couple of years ago, this place has had its Managers replaced more frequently than I have enjoyed hot dinners there. As a completely free and welcome gesture to the current Manager, I presented him with a small book about the surrounding area when he arrived and I even brought my large agricultural brush-cutter from my home, several miles away, to tackle the over-grown and neglected lawns at the rear of the pub. Two sweaty hours later, job completed, I was given neither thanks, nor even a complimentary pint to re-hydrate me! This truly was a 'thankless' task. I really don't know why I bothered because very little subsequent effort has been made to cut this lawn nor even maintain the extensive grounds and car park. The place looks shoddy and certainly deserves better husbandry. Or perhaps this is just an excuse to run yet another pub down, plead commercial non-viability, close it and sell to those avaricious property developers who show such scant regard for our historic heritage and listed buildings? I shall not be recommending this establishment, nor drinking there, again unless some drastic improvements are made. Since the Covid lockdowns, drinking habits have changed and Humphrey Smith's inflexible, out-dated and cavalier attitudes will no longer be tolerated by his long-standing customers.

After being my families local for 18 years and working there a year myself two years ago my family was barred for daring to tell the manager we had been short changed £10. Were we a bit annoyed with the manager? Absolutely, but consider the fact we were locals and regulars you'd expect the benefit of the doubt to be taken into account. The manager was immediately unhelpful when the lady behind the bar who made the mistake called him down, and implied by his constant declaration that "I am not a liar" that we were the ones in the wrong. He did offer to count the till at the end of the day and if it was over we'd receive the money back but this is the bare minimum courtesy he seemed able to offer. If the bar was incredibly busy we may have accepted that but seeing as we were one of the few patrons in on father's Day there was no excuse for the lack of diligence in checking the last few transactions on the till at least, or indeed checking the CCTV that covers the bar to physically see the £20 note being placed in the till. The only credit due to the manager is the next day we were slightly vindicated by receiving our £10 back albeit with no apology for the mistake and a warning that we were unwelcome and to "take a long look at our family". You only need to look at how the new landlord is looking after the grounds and garden to know this man is not capable of carrying the responsibilities placed upon him by the brewery that hired him.

A few words of warning for those looking to visit the Heversham hotel.First of all the venue is cash only, one can only assume a tax dodge and the nearest cashpoint is over a mile away.Dogs are banned from the pub and mobile phones are also banned from the pub and using your phone can get you removed. I am not joking! Fancy a nice meal? There is no food. Most staff seem polite, however on my visit there was a rather large gentleman appearing and disappearing from the bar who you could hear coming before you saw them. Very loud and obnoxious when talking to colleagues and as a guest quite cringe to listen to. I am not sure who the individual is but management should probably have a word with him.The gardens and pub are looking quite tired and badly kept, I wont criticise to much here as will have been closed for covid but for such an impressive building it is a shame and these are the absolute basics. If you hate food, fury animals and social media then this is the place for you.

I’ve had to resubmit this in less explicit terms so as to not offend those who moderate the reviews. What was a somewhat isolated, but friendly, establishment seems to be retreating rapidly. I quite understand how a badly trained dog might be offensive. In that case the dog and owners should be asked to go elsewhere. To bar all dogs in this area will result in a significant loss of custom. The new(ish) managers seem good - but the rules they have to enforce work against them.Food OK, service decent, beer acceptable if you like Sam Smiths - no guest beers. If the current staff were elsewhere, I’d join them.

Plate food, so don't expect fine dining, but the price point for the area is very good. Love their policies...sick of having to sit in a dining room with an animal sat at the next table, only 22% of UK households own dogs - but like all minority groups their demands dictate to the silent majority what can and cannot happen in given situations....and lovely not being disturbed by phones f-ing pinging/ringing throughout meals.

What an amazing find! We had passed the Heversham hotel a number of times and eventually called in for a pint and have done so a couple more times now. We just wished we had done so sooner. The building itself is lovely, and the location, although just off the A6, is rural and relaxing. There are tables outside, and inside there are a number of smaller rooms off the bar, rather than just one large open plan room. It's a Sam Smith pub so the drinks are only from Tadcaster Brewery but there is a good selection. And the prices!!! You get change from a tenner for four pints! The beer quality can't be faulted. All Sam Smith pubs are strictly run - mobile phone use is banned, and bad language will get a customer banned. I'm not sure about the incoming ban on using card machines - be prepared to have to pay in cash. Not only were the staff lovely, but the clientele too - they are friendly and chatty.

A friendly, lovely local pub & hotel. Serving a great range of beers including the best Sam Smith's stout I have ever tasted :)

We had a lovely meal here. It was very quiet. I remember it as the Blue Bell at Heversham.

Went for food, prices are super competitive and the food was really nice! Maybe not that many vegetarian recipes - I went for the cheese pie - but would recommend the raspberry fondue desert.

Had a very nice lunch. Cheese pie for me, liver and onions for my friend. Both went down very well and served with a smile. Lovely couple running the place now. Going tomorrow evening with my hubby.

The food was served quickly but tasted as if it had just been taken from the freezer and heated in the microwave. The pub itself felt very tired and in need of an update.

Been here with the last managers and with the new ones it has gotten better, food service is perfect, staff are helpful and friendly. Couldn’t ask for anything better! The rooms are beautiful and you are welcomed with open arms! You will not regret your visit here.

We were aware of the poor reputation, but, were also aware that it was under new management, so decided to give it a go in November 2018

Good food at a reasonable price. Better than other places that I have been to and more expensive. Value for money.

Can’t fault the service and the usual Costa coffee standards. But seriously marked down for atmosphere - a noisy aircon unit or fan filled the space with white noise, absolutely impossible to hold a conversation.

Best thing about our lunch was that the cafe was dog friendly. The coffee was OK but only lukewarm. The soup and toasties were a massive disappointment. Only time we've ever been served soup we couldn't eat. It was meant to be tomato soup but it was so thick that it looked and tasted more like a pasta sauce. Taste wasn't impressive and it was loaded with soggy croutons. The toasted sandwich had unmelted cheese. It was floppy, spongy and almost soggy. Horrible. If you can't get soup and a sandwich correct you shouldn't be working in a kitchen

Used to be a little bit different, a little bit higher quality in ingredients and in beer offerings. Now it’s just the same downgrade Peroni to Nastro etc. Save a few pence but turns the product into the same as everywhere else instead of that small cut above. Such a shame.

If you're in the area you must try this place, the flat iron steaks are delicious. Service is fairly quick and polite and the atmosphere is good... it's a good idea to book a table because it's very popular with the local people....This restaurant did close down and I'm not sure if it's still closed.
