Really good service especially from the blonde girl. Food was great and was a really friendly atmosphere lovely day out 👍🏼

I had the steak and kidney pie and chips, my wife had the scampi and chips, served by a polite waitress and very tasty.

Great fish and chips and they welcomed our dog, which many of the other chip shops wouldn’t.

Really had a good meal, very worthwhile and very tasty.

Myself , my mum , my 3 children and 3 grandchildren went here today and we had a lovely lunch ,good portions - loads of chips and the little ones enjoyed the soft play too. The young lady that served us was so lovely, polite , helpful and efficient. We will be back again soon. Thank you 😊

For those that have given this a good review have never had fresh cod, this isn't it's frozen and tasteless! I work in a chippy part time in my home town and theirs is delivered fresh every day , the chips were poor too as was the luke warm saveloy and the watery mushy peas !! Would not use again if going to southend that's for sure. Was thoroughly disappointed, if prices are going up that's to be expected but then are the expectations too sorry 😞

Was reckoned buy coach driver as best in Southend so gave it a try, not the best buy far chips warm sausage not that good. Will be giving it a wide bearth. Chip shop over road from coach park is a lot better. Sorry for bad review.

Stopped by this chip shop as we was in Southend for our day out,I've always thought this is the best along the seafront,how wrong am I.we ordered cod and chips my partner and I complained about the fish it was overcooked, dry and flavourless .couldn't eat it,we had a couple of mouthfuls asked the waitress to come over she was very rude and back chatted my partner saying she had eaten half of it which we hadnt , my partner said we're prepared to pay for the chips and drinks but we're not paying for the fish.this is the last time we're eating in here.awful experience.

we ordered cod an chips, the fish was over cook and tasted horrible, I ate one mouthful and ask the waitress to come over as I wasn't satisfied with the meal , she was so rude saying you've Complained and ate half which I hadn't I replied look I have just had one mouthful, she then said calm down in a very rude voice and with that I said dont tell me to calm down love , I said we will pay for the chips and drinks which we did , we will never go there again

Look no further for decent fish and chips! We regularly go to Southend and have been disappointed in the past with the other local restaurants so I was really hoping this would be great ….. it was!! The kids meals are around £5.40 and included chips and a drink and were HUGE! Me and my partner got fish and chips and saveloy and chips and was not disappointed. It was served promptly and we honestly had a great experience. We will be going back!!!! Thank you!

Cold and tasteless worse cod and chips I've ever eaten 🤢 Soulless atmosphere and service

Ye Olde Fish and Chip Shop. Overall had a pleasant experience. The food was nice, with the cod being particularly tasty, and the portion size was generous for the price—around £8 for cod and chips. The chips were great initially, though the last few were a bit dry. However, that didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the meal. The service was impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff making the experience even better. Great value for money, and I'd definitely recommend it for anyone craving classic fish and chips. Good to know they fry the fish separate to meat products. Friendly customer service. Clean toilets too!

Poor service,average fish and chips

Have eaten here twice in the last 3 days. My daughter is saveloy obsessed (ASD) she said and I quote “this is the best saveloy ever!” We have tried the fish and chips which was also delicious. Curry sauce was thick and tasty. Only thing I would say is we did use the soft play which was a lovely added bonus but too many parents in there not keeping an eye on their children. I would impose it that only parents supervising are allowed to let their children in. Not the staffs fault at all. Great food and great service!! Will definitely go back if in the area.

My son loved it here so much he insisted we go back, so we visited twice in one weekend. The soft play was great, such a good idea, but the young ladies who were working on Friday lunchtime where honestly the nicest and friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered anywhere. He wants to come back next year. Food was good, arrived quickly and the toilets were fine. Photo is the kids half eaten fish and chips.

Have used this fish and chip shop every time I’ve visited Southend over the years and normally exceptionally good but this particular time felt absolutely let down by one of the staff members with the blond hair who was particularly rude towards me and was swearing this isn’t the level of service I expected because she thought I was gonna go in to the wrong toilet absolutely disgusting attitude and won’t ever be using this chip shop ever again.

The chips were very under cooked, the portion turned to a hot pile of greasy mash.

Lovely staff and amazing food!Has a soft play for children to play in and is brilliant 100%recommend!the food was great and the staff were more then welcoming if ur coming for a visit or even live nearby I would go here if u hadn’t already!

Great chips, service bit slap dash at times, but definitely the finest chips on the seafront.

The perfect fish and chips are no longer a dream! Cod that is light and fluffy and doesn't taste like old cooking oil. Chip that have a good mix of crunchy and big chunky. And the service was amazing. Staff are friendly and make sure everyone is attended to without bothering in the middle of your meal. Great news for parents as there is also a soft play area to let the kids burn some energy while you rest from the great meal you have just finished. Potions are good sizes and prices is justified by the quality of the meal.

Driver done about 5 others drops before ours so not great todsy

Ordered 3x cod and chips sat in cost £2 each more the order came whitin 5 minutes the cod was tasteless and the chips were pre heated and horrible, even the salt and vinegar had no taste, what a waste of £40.50 will not eat there again

Ordered cod and chips. COD was undercooked and the chips were raw. We didn’t check the reviews before entering, don’t make the same mistake we did. Food was tasteless and disgusting. I’m sure the 5 star reviews here have been paid for!

Worse chip shop ever. If I could of given zero stars I would of. Staff was Okish but not very welcoming or helpful. The sausage and chips had dried up ,cold and tasteless. It was like the food had been sitting around since lunchtime. I had a added bonus of penicillin growing on the roll as well .I certainly wouldn't recommend eating from this place due to food and hygiene.

Had sausage in batter and chips twice and two buttered rolls, The battered sausages where dry and cold the chips where also dry every one had an eye on it and the worst part the rolls had mould growing on them!! Even the sea gulls turned their beak's up and left them. Utterly disgusted

I love this fish and chips shop. Miss going there. We upset to make a B line for this chippy on a weekend. Never had fish and chips that was as good as this place. Comfy surroundings. Thought when the council sold off the ground opposite the Kursaal, where this fish and chips was, that we'd lost a great chippy, but luckily the guy got a new place and opened up. Fantastic. Go and try it. I guarantee you won't go anywhere else!! X

Came here with work supporting 20 people with learning difficulties. James the owner spoke to us in advance, did everything he could to make sure we were sorted. Got food orders in advance. Kept in touch.On the day introduced himself and staff team and sorted all our group out. He kept coming over to chat to us despite clearly being busy. All the staff on the day were absolutely charming. Of course the food was delicious, fast and good size servings. Thoroughly recommend.

Really lovely cod, crispy batter, chips really nice, staff friendly, great value, highly recommend and we will return for sure.

This place was very good on our previous visits however the quality of food was poor this time round. Hopefully it's just a one off.

It's one of the best fish n chips. The chips were so fresh and the Cod was amazing.

Spent £25 and never received mushy peas even asked again and never received. The chips were disgusting and hard and the fish tasteless. Horrible

Very average which was bitterly disappointing. I feel very conflicted that some inner London fish and chips is better than ACTUAL SEASIDE fish and chips. What a world.

Poor service, the waitress left us waiting over 20 min to get a table while she would let customers coming after us sit. In the end, she told us to leave and that she would not let us sit inside as we didn't know that the first till was for take away only, she could have just explained it nicely however, she was rude and felt that she was treating us that way as we were the only customers looking different. The way she approached us, the looks she was giving us, the vibes.. never felt racism in the UK before until that day.

The best fish and chips in Southend. I live far away but will still drive here occasionally to get some Cod & Chips.

Mum in law wanted chips from a proper chippy and to sit in the car watching the sea. The staff are lovely and the chips were hit the spot, hot, crispy and just the right amount of salt and vinegar and good portion size. This is our go to chippy when in Southend. Thank you xx

Been going here for years when in the area never disappoints really good food

Visited on the hottest day of the year (so far) 12th May 2024, late afternoon food surprisingly good. (Haddock and cod). The young lady who served me was very friendly considering the busy day, and I overheard the young chap serving another customer who also was being very helpful. Sadly don’t know their names but well done and thank you!

Fish and chips shop on the sea front at South End. Service is good, food is reasonably priced. Soft Play area inside for the little ones. Some booth seating indoors and some outdoor seating for sunny days.

Food was great, decent portions and arrived hot. Food didn't arrive until an hour after I'd made the order and delivery times kept changing.

What a lovely place with friendly people at the ye olde chippy! We came from a residential home for lunch, we called them as we were a group of 9 people, some in wheel chair's and the staff were so kind and accomadating, they helped us so much, opening doors and taking care of us all! Not to mention a really great tasting meal with a good price, really wonderful people here! Especially Young Zoe was so lovely to the residents! Thank you for everything, thanks to you guys we all had a wonderful lunch.

Perfect for a family day out. Staff were all really lovely and helpful. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. The soft play was clean and perfect to let the kids play on while we finished our meal. Will 100% be going back and recommending to family friends for the future

Good service, but I had the Haddock and not only did it taste bad, today I have been on the loo non stop. Also had child meal, and he seems fine.

First things first, the staff are friendly and very welcoming. Ordered two cod and chips with curry sauce and mushy peas. The portions were very good for the price and the fish tasted lovely, was not greasy at all and the mushy peas and curry sauce were spot on. If you're down by the seafront with your children there is a very affordable kids menu and soft play area at the back of the restaurant. Decor is modern and vibrant with some wonderful lighting which makes the place looks fresh and clean.

Me and my mrs had a wonderful meal together ye olde chippy in southend yesterday and it was 10/10 what lovely people made us feel so welcoming the food was amazing no fault with any of are meal we had cod chips batterd sausage fish cake curry sauce it was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend

It's not busy at all with housemates.

Disappointing as the food was barely warm. You could tell the order had been sitting around for a while as the fish had started to go rubbery. We ordered here as it was lovely when we ordered direct at the seafront. Shame.

Nice size portion of cod and chips but the cod was very dry and over cooked

We had cod and chips and rock and chips which was excellent. Great quality,hot and freshly cooked. Our first time visiting this restaurant but certainly won't be the last. Very friendly and efficient staff aswell. It gets very busy which isn't a surprise given the quality but worth the wait if you decide to go in here. If you want traditional fish and chips this is the place to go without question.

Visited Ye Olde Chippy yesterday with a group of 10 adults with learning disabilities and 4 carers. The staff were amazing. So kind, generous and patient. The food was great and everyone had a lovely lunch. One of our group is gluten free which they also catered for. 100% would recommend a visit if you are in Southend.

Lovely, freshly cooked cod and chips. Restaurant was busy, but efficient staff so no long wait. Worth the trip from London!

Not the same sinced it moved. Would have given 5 stars but they don't pre warn you the wall menu isn't the same as the sit down menu. So after waiting for what seemed like an eternity we couldn't have what we had hoped. On the way to the toilet the kids ball pit had a very strong smell of urine!! Well done for the waitresses..very lovely girls. Saying that I wouldn't eat inside again.

Absolutely disgusting food. If your Asian or Chinese they give you crazy small portions but then next to me have the same fish and chips who were white and they have completely different chips completely different fish.

As a disabled person on a mobility scooter on a afternoon in Southend went to enjoy some fish & chips in this restaurant. We didn't want take away but to sit and have table service. A gentleman said we could go round the take away side and they would serve us there due to a big step and nor being able to get in. Once round the other side we sat at a table and waited to be served only to be told there would be no table service for us as we were round the wrong side but we could have our food on a Styrofoam plate. We explained what the other gentleman had said but were still told no table service. So we left if your disabled don't go here as you get singled out go to the place next door LAS VEGAS GRILL you get served there like a normal person !!

Food was average, hadn't salted and vinegared chips as requested. Wouldn't order again. This is seperate to the delivery issue. Just eat very poor with delivery, took ages to assign a driver and wasn't able to cancel. Keep getting bad experiences with just eat.

The food quite simple, the best were the chips, although slightly dry. The fish quite greasy, nothing special. The worst part of my experience has been the treatment of the staff: the girl who attended me did it without desire and with a bad face, and nothing else was offered to me, not even the sauces. The establishment quite shabby, nothing special

Absolutely beautiful lovely fresh and hot

Visited as a group of six for lunch on a busy Saturday. We were seated straight away and drinks orders taken. The food was brought out promptly, and everything was piping hot and very fresh. I had the scampi and chips with mushy peas, which was absolutely delicious! Loved the addition of the indoor play area for the young children, which kept them entertained whilst we waited on lunch to arrive. The waitress was also super friendly and offered us a generous NHS discount when I asked if it was accepted. Overall a great experience - can’t wait to return!

Was great just how I like them!

The lady that served us was really friendly. Unfortunately another lady told us they closed the seating area and so we could only get take out. While our food was getting cooked we saw another family walk in and be offered the very same table we wanted to sit at. Now I don’t know if ignorance and prejudice was the cause of this disparity in treatment but unfortunately it ruined an otherwise good service and food.
