We went as a Family of 5 adults. It was a birthday outing. When ordering pre dinner drinks, daughter asked if they would put an extra tea bag in the pot as she likes strong tea. She was told that we would have to pay for another pot to get another tea bag, WHAT!!! Five of us there for a meal and drinks and they wanted to charge £2.50 for one tea bag. Daughter went without on principle. Next to the meal. Two of us had the Sunday roast supposedly upgraded from Medium to Large for free as we had booked by phone?? They meals came and I dread to think what size a medium meal would be like as we both felt that they had been downgraded to small not up to large. The roasties were rock hard and only a small amount of beef. There was a 'sorry' from the waitress re the roasties. The others had meals with skinny fries. Their meals were cold and the fries were hard. Another 'sorry' was proffered. The cost for a bad meal was £130 + Such a shame as the place was well furnished and warm with one lovely waitress, pity about the other one, and the man taking the order who was not very welcoming when we arrived let alone when taking our orders. We would not go there again and would certainly not recommend it. What a shame!

Food was disappointing, small portions. My chicken was sent back too rubbery. Waited 30 minutes for desserts. Soft drinks were very expensive. We took friends with us and they also said they were disappointed. We will not be returning any time soon.

We visited Ye Olde Boots in Whittington for Sunday lunch, having pre-booked a table for two adults and one child. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly but my friend discovered food from the previous customers on his chair, which stained his clean jeans. Despite informing the staff no action was taken to remedy the situation. The service was somewhat disorganised with our order needing clarification multiple times. We received an extra starter we hadn't ordered. When our Sunday roast arrived the meat was slightly tough and the roast potatoes were overly hard. The price we paid did not match the quality of the food. Although the staff were friendly, they appeared inexperienced, perhaps benefiting from the presence of more seasoned member of staff would help things run smoother. Despite these issues, the establishment itself was clean and well-maintained. While there is a promotion for a free upgrade to a larger main course when pre-booking by phone, it didn't compensate for the overall disappointing experience. Overall, we left feeling unsatisfied and unlikely to return. While others may have a different experience, unfortunately we cannot recommend Ye Olde Boots based on ours." Rating: 2/5 ⭐⭐

Called in here as we'd not been for ages. It's recently had a refurb and it looks lovely, sadly this is where the positivity ends. Ok, we were walk ins and after 10 minutes of discussion between the staff themselves and a check with the kitchen they did find us a table and brought menu's. Sat for 20 minutes until we caught a waitress who took our order for food and drinks. Food came around 20 minutes later before the drinks and cutlery. All we're eventually brought to us. The batter on the fish was particularly hard and in places no fish at all and chips soggy. I mentioned this when paying and the person that took payment said the they didn't agree with the way the chef cooks it either. Many locals in there too joking amongst themselves about the slow service which is a shame for a local pub. We won't be back anytime soon after tonight's experience.

Following a recommendation we decided to book a meal at this restaurant. Booked a table well in advance for a nice relaxing meal on a Saturday night with great expectations. But, Where do I start!!! Arrived several minutes earlier than booked, and we could see that the place was busy, we were told that they were just cleaning the table, so, waited for a few minutes, to be taken to a table in the entrance passage!!! As soon as we sat down it was like sitting in a constant draft, the fire, whilst it looked inviting did not give out any heat whatsoever, if they had said just take a seat here whilst we sort out your table that would have been fine, but it wasn’t an appropriate place for a nice dining experience. When the young waitress brought our drinks I said that I wasn’t happy sitting in this spot as it’s cold, draughty and absolutely no atmosphere, her response was that it was the only table, but that wasn’t the impression we had earlier, we stated that if they couldn’t find another table we would not stay as this was not acceptable. After discussing it they offered us another table which was lovely. So great we thought, bear in mind that we had now been here around 20 minutes. We asked if we could order our food and we were then told it would be one hour before we would get our first course, we thought well maybe it wouldn’t be too long, however, after sitting at the table for over three quarters of an hour and noticing that there were at least four other tables with customers sitting waiting for their meals before us we were beginning to have second thoughts. It was now 8.30pm and thought that the way it was going it would be be at least 9.00pm before we would be served so we decided that we would not stay. Sadly, the staff were doing their best and it’s obvious that they need more help or they shouldn’t over commit if they can’t cope. Unfortunately we won’t be going back, although the food that was brought out looked lovely, just not going to take a chance.

The "Ye Olde Boot Inn" in Whittington is situated near the RJ&AH Orthopedic hospital were I was required to have tests and appointments before my Knee operation there. I actually stayed there 3 times throughout August, mostly 1 night only but 3 days in one instance. Ideal place to stay with friendly staff, very nice rooms with all the facilities in, good beer and freshly cooked food. Booked one night for my partner and her friend so they could pick me up on discharge. Would recommend to anyone.

Nice pub. Excellent parking. Nice friendly staff. Our table was strangely very sticky. Never come across this before. Nice waitress came and wiped it, however, it was still extremely sticky. In fact, my serviette stuck to the table. I checked teo other tables and they were the same Food was ok. Transport cafe standard. I had tasteless steak pie My wife had tasteless fish. For the prices charged, it was ok. Wont rush to go back there though.

We visited here for Lunch and we’re so pleased we did! Although the new owners had only been in for a week we were greeted by friendly staff and seated promptly. They were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. The landlord came and introduced himself and asked if everything was alright, which we assured him it was. Lunch was delicious, plenty of it, perfectly cooked and came out all together and hot! We had children with us and they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed! Needless to say we will be back, well done all.

Its a Sunday afternoon, lovely day, why not go out for a meal. It's 16.30 on 3rd July. Let's check the Boote Inn's web site. They close at 18.30. The Boote has always been our default foodie pub so into the car. Arrive at 17.05. "We have come for a meal", we tell the serving person. "Sorry, we have closed" was the response. "But it states you close at 18.30 on your website", I utter, becoming a little annoyed. The next response was quite surprising, "The chef has decided to go home so we have finished cooking early". "But it's only 17.05", I answered rather shocked at this. I cannot possibly review the food as we didn't get any.. I can't review the customer relations of this establishment either as Trip Advisor doesn't have a ZERO ! All I can say is that WE will never ever go to The Boote Inn ever again. They don't deserve customers.

We booked 4 nights B&B at this quaint Inn to attend a wedding at the Church opposite. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Georgia and given a key to our room, number 4. There are 6 rooms in total. Going up the stairs we were greeted by lovely decor and a very fresh clean smell. Our room was a good size, spotlessly clean with crisp white linen and fluffy towels. We had tea and coffee in the room and a lovely touch is that there are replenishment jars on the landing for guests to help themselves to more, plus biscuits, an iron and ironing board. Our rate included breakfast which was served between 8 and 9 daily. Tables were laid with fresh orange juice, jugs of milk and packs of cereal. When ready an order for a cooked breakfast was taken... Egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms or any combination was forthcoming. Alternatively guests could have a bacon or sausage sandwich, poached egg on toast etc. Tea and coffee were plentiful. We ate in the hotel two nights and the food was superb. The £25 steak and wine for 2 was a great deal on one night with juicy steaks perfectly cooked to our liking. What makes this establishment is the very friendly staff.. All female on our visit. Georgia and Penny were so friendly along with the other waitresses and cleaners whose names we didn't catch. They seemed genuinely interested in why we were staying, had we had a good time, recommendations on where to visit and general good humour. This was evident from 8 in the morning at breakfast to 10 at night when we returned. It was so lovely to stay in a character property with genuinely 'nice' people who made us feel so welcome. We won't hesitate to return.

This was quite possibly the worst meal I've eaten in my life. The ladies who served us were sweet and bought the score up from a minus. They weren't sure if the chef was going to still be able to cook for us. It was 8pm. We chose a chicken platter, the oil was running off of the plank, the chicken had been microwaved and was tough, full of grease and chewy. The salad was unwashed (in a world full of a pandemic) The table was sticky But finally, as we were leaving, they had a dig about the lovely lady in the BnB next door, this was the final turn of the dial. Typically the custom was elderly, so possibly not internet savvy enough to leave a review, and we are shocked that this place has the audacity to call itself a restaurant.

Family evening, mixed group. Customer service left a lot to be desired based on amount paid per head. No drinks served at table so had to go to the bar to get repeat drinks during the meal which I feel is unusual when you are paying at this level when you visit a restaurant, maybe they consider themselves as pub grub, that's fine when it is not pub grub prices. Some items were not availalble on the night which was a shame and the waiter said 'tough' when I said we would have chosen an item that had been removed from the choices!!! Overall would not visit again, a bit on the pricey side for food value and service. Would hope the team will consider serving drinks at the table for restaurant guests and paying more attention to their personal customer service.

The staff are always very pleasant at the boot, and the menu has a very good selection. We both had the calamari starter which comes with lemon and garlic mayo. Delicious. And a good sized portion. I then had grilled plaice with chips and veg, hubby had a steak. The steak was not quite medium rare, but ok my fish was a bit burnt on the edges, but chef came out and explained that because it was grilled it would have a bit of that on the edge. Anyway despite my reservations it was beautiful. I must say if you are going and like fish try the battered cod, it's fantastic, it comes in two pieces of thick white cod with fab crispy batter. Went here with family for Sunday lunch. Hadn't been here for quite a while due to a poor meal in the past... we were not disappointed, it was just as poor again!! Asked for the vegetables to be cooked until they were soft, and when they arrived, we were told that it was not possible, as they were only heated up, not cooked at the time. The chef was completely inflexible and rude, and seemed to think that we were blaming the waitresses (who did nothing wrong). The small amount of beef was chewy, and fatty. The Yorkshire pudding was burned on the outside, and soggy inside. I dislike paying for a meal that I could cook better myself! Shame about this as it is a nice pub, in a fantastic location.

I am a new resident to the village and I risk my social future by submitting this review; however I am so incensed that I felt obliged to do so.After unpacking box's all day I decided to treat myself - I was quite excited about having what appeared to be a great village pub with good food. How wrong was I.The pub is clean, well decorated; the bar staff are welcoming and interested. I ordered my food and a glass of wine - lamb shank with minted gravy, mash and seasonal veg. The wine - a Chilean Shiraz was served at a good temperature and an excellent choice. However, when the food arrived all seemed to go down hill. On a positive note, the minted gravy was good. The shank was, (and please excuse the pun), as tough as the old boot - I wrestled with it but could only salvage 50% of the meat - the rest clung to the bone with alacrity and the effort sent gravy splashing over my freshly ironed shirt. The mash was lumpy, bland and over salted - no butter or cream to enhance this wonder of British food! The veg - carrots, red cabbage and peas; the peas were like bullets, the carrots raw and the cabbage soaked in vinegar. No one came to me during my meal to ask how things were and when the waitress collected my still full dishes, she asked me if my meal was ok - I replied, (very quietly), that no, the food was very poor - she just replied 'sorry'. I remained at my table for another half hour and no one came over to discuss my comments. When I went to pay my bill - £23 odd - the bar person asked me if I had enjoyed my meal; I replied no that I felt it was very poor and parts virtually inedible - all she did was smile at me as she processed my debit card payment. I walked home hungry and totally dissatisfied - next time I will eat from the village chippy which, by the way is excellent

We enjoyed our meals and the service was good there was plenty of food and as I did not want rice with my meal as was on the menu with the dish I ordered I asked for vegetables and was duly served some. Had eaten here in the past and enjoyed it every time. Called on speck without booking and was instantly able to get a table but it was early evening and would advise booking for a later time. Food was excellent as always. Can definately recommend the chicken sizzler served with rice and chips. Chicken curry is also very good and very hot. Can definately recommend this restaurant and its olde worlde charm.

Booked well in advance of our family party so glad we did. Pleasant room albeit it a little dark but to be expected considering the age of the building. Room large bathroom very spacious. Tea and coffee making facilities and nice to see "China" cups. Beds comfortable and view across to the church was a bonus. Breakfast very good all three of our party asked for eggs cooked differently. Cooked breakfast is large. Would recommend

Stayed overnight on the 29/03/2015,room had views of Castle and Moat/Duck pond. Rooms were very pleasant and comfortable, food on the evening was very good Gammon was nice and thickly cut not large and flat like most places. We stayed one night as we were going to another hotel further down but on reflection we would have loved to stay full length here.If you enjoy heritage places of interest there are quite a lot near by and this is an ideal base.

A nice friendly welcome & decent food and prices. The only downside for myself was there was a wait to have the fish & my 2nd choice had sold out so i chose the Gammon which was well cooked if a little salty. Good location and ambience. I would definitely use this this place again

Joined a local here for lunch the other day. Nice location and the pub had the feel of a real 'local' which was positive. The place was clearly popular with the locals, especially older (>65 years) women who were in plentiful supply. There was a choice of beer but I'm not a particular fan of Robinson's so I was personally disappointed with this aspect. However, the food came in the sort of time that led you to believe it was not just re-heated and when it came it was very nice. Generous portions, nicely presented with good taste. All in all a positive experience and if the opportunity arose, I would come again.

We had dinner with 5 friends. The service and friendliness of the staff was very good. The choices were varied, I had scampi which was lovely served with chips, peas and wonderful homemade tartare sauce. We will be making a return visit soon and hope to take the opportunity to view the accommodation for a possible stay in the future. The views across the road of the castle look inviting too.

Pub food, good side of standard, worth it for a stopping point to see the castle or when the White Lion over the road is full.

Went for a meal did not think much of it. Meat looked and tasted like a bit of old leather from a boot. Hence how the place got its name. Will never go there again due to the rude little old man behind the bar.

We found this little pub by accident- just out for a Sunday drive- my husband had the roast beef lunch- only £8.50, but huge portion- none of your obviously frozen veg- but beautiful fresh peas, carrots and creamed cabbage- this was a new one on us- but lovely. As a vegetarian, I thought would end us with the normal lasagne- but no- they had a superb plough mans, I have never seen so much cheese- which also included a stilton and apple pate.£9.95,we were to full for a sweet- but we did see them come out of the kitchen- and they are huge- Looking forward to going again. What we also noticed that was nice- was the amount of families- grandparents, Moms and Dads and little ones-all so well behaved !!

we called at the boot on a sunday afternoon at 1 30 we were told by the staff that they served sunday roast till 2 when we eventually got noticed by the bar staff who led us to a table we ordered the food only to be told we had to go back to the bar for our drinks on getting our drinks went back to the table only to be told by the waitress no roast dinner left no alternative offered so we had our money back we felt as though they were not bothered which left us with drinks we did not want and having to find a alternative venue which we found at the greyhound inn st martins truly welcoming and brilliant food and friendly staff.NB we will not be going to the boot again

We called in at Ye Old Boot Inn on the way back from an appointment at Gobowen hospital. We ordered the food and within 10 minutes it was brought to the table. I had home made lasagne with coleslaw. As this did not come with anything else I ordered a portion of home made chips. My husband had the enormous cod and chips and my sister in law had the mustard and sugared ham with two eggs and chips. There was enough ham to feed a family but my sister in law struggled her way to the end. Even though we were all full we had to try the sweets. I chose the trifle and the others had the chocolate pudding. All of the food appeared to be homemade and was extremely tasty with generous portions. Our only negative point was that the homemade chips were a little cold and undercooked but as the rest of the food was so delicious it was not a problem. The pub was clean had a lovely village feel about it. We will definitely be visiting again when we have our next hospital appointment in two weeks.

The cafe is efficiently run and we enjoyed the rooftop seating in the sun today. Unfortunately the scone was stale. Quite a shocker for me! What a shame :(

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
