Yam Sing in Charnwood

Had a takeaway consisting of yuk sung , beef in spicey satay sauce and Chinese chips. The chips were fine but the rest was bland with a capital B.

We have recently moved to a nearby village, and have tried Takeaways from every town/village in the area, I had almost given up finding a decent one when I passed this place, the food was so tasty and faultless my wife and I both enjoyed it so much, we shall not be extending our search, we have stumbled across the best by a Rowley mile.

The titles says it all - we all love this takeaway and really cannot fault it in any way. Not much more to say - enjoy

Food was fine, nothing special if I'm honest. I came here for my birthday with family/friends. The starters came all on one platter, odd as we had ordered 3, we had to cut some stuff in half so really didn't work! The Thai green curry was not a Thai green curry.. probably need to look into perfecting this one. The young lad was so rude and on the verge of arrogant.. it was like everything was too much trouble. Also check receipt, we got charged for prawn crackers and didn't receive them. This was acknowledged and removed from our bill, but the young lad wasn't impressed. I refused to leave a tip. As soon as we walked out we all agreed we would never go back, mostly because of the lads attitude and also felt like it was dated and very over priced. I know people have overheads but it really wasn't anything special, I wish I'd saved us £100+ and had a takeaway at home.

Love this take away! Food hot and tasty, it does cost slightly more than your average take away but the food quality reflects this! Love the curry and the chicken chow mien! I don’t hesitate to recommend to anyone and will keep returning

Been going to this restaurant for years and have to say its lovely real good quality food the price could be better but it's one of those pay for what you get. However when I phoned today I enquired about a dish and that the portion of meat in that dish wasnt alot. And the young guy had a right bad attitude saying I'm the only one to complaint and that it's weird that iv complaint and that if I want more Iv got to pay more. I was just trying to give some constructive criticism. Very disappointed.

Had a takeaway from here Saturday evening as was staying in the area with friends. Hmm simply delicious! Between us we had ribs, prawn toast soup, rices and main dishes! Simply not one complaint and all devoured! Highly recommend 😁

Hot fresh tasty food, yes it is a little expensive but the food is worth it. special occasions are lovely - intimate dining & good service with a smile. Yes its small restaurant and the surroundings are a little tired but we come for the gorgeous food :) thankyou yam sing - will be back.

Nice to sit down and eat rather than have a take away. Restaurant a little dated. Food was excellent hot, freshly cooked and plenty of it. Park at the front and the rear.

We have been invited to eat here three times by friends who live in the village. We had the best Hot and Sour Soup that we have ever eaten. The food is average and the prices are above average.

Service was good, food was nice although expensive. Surroundings are very dated, could definitely do with a revamp

Dined in here - décor is dated and tired. However.. all 4 of us said it was the best food we had had in a long time. Lots of people coming in and out collecting takeaways. Will definitely return and would highly recommend to everyone!!

We dined here on Saturday evening. Superb food and service as always. One of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. If I could find one fault it would be the decor is a little tired and in need of an update. Other than that highly recommended! 10-10.

A large group of us went to Yam Sing for our annual society meal out, and it is always a treat. This time there were so many compliments from the group about the food, which was delicious. The service was superb, and the staff were very accommodating when a vegetarian meal hadn't been pre-ordered like the rest of the food - our mistake. Thank you once again for a lovely evening with gorgeous food.

Omg went here with friend there was 18 off us food was super fab so I ask hubby if we two could just go so we did bit out are way but we went they cook food to order even though it's a buffet well worth the money and can not wait to go again

We've had a few takeaways from this place before. The food is absolutely beautiful & the owners are really nice. However, the young man who has served us twice now, is very poor on his customer service! He took our order & was very rude to us, which has really put us off offering our Chinese food from here again. We will be considering other establishments for our take away food from now on, due to his abrupt mannerisms, which is a real shame as this could be one of the best Chinese restaurant's in the area.

Went here for the first time with a group of ladies from work for a celebration,most of them had been before and so I went highly recommended and I wasn't disappointed.The food was all lovely,tried a few different dishes,service was excellent,staff very friendly and helpful and I can't wait to go again

The staff are really friendly and the food it delicious. The cost of the food means that you don't have to fork out loads. Chicken and blackbeen sauce is one that I would highly recommend. It is not spicy but is sweet.

El Restaurante Chino Yam cantar en Shepshed ha estado allí por años, pero sin duda es haciendo algo a la derecha para permanecer en el negocio tanto tiempo. La comida siempre es muy fresca y abundante, con una buena selección de alimentos. La carne magra y tierna es siempre demasiado. No entiendo una crítica anterior sobre el gerente. Siempre hemos encontrado todo el personal muy cortés y amable. Es una buena relación calidad-precio, así que pruébalo.

Teníamos el menú entre semana excelente comida de tres platos principales tres entrantes y tener los tres de cada te dan la oportunidad de probar nuevos platos que normalmente no prueba así llegamos a encontrar algunos platos muy agradable que puede tener una y otra vez. Se lo recomendaría a todos un 1 comida y servicio

Hemos estado yendo a este restaurante por más de 15 años. . . Sí, necesita una reforma pero lo que le falta en la decoración es compensado por la comida increíble y un servicio amable. Nada es demasiado complicada. Siempre me relacioné con mi hijo mayor y yo visitamos recientemente con mi recién nacido, y se aseguraron de que la temperatura del restaurante estaba bien para ella (tienen aire acondicionado). fantástico

Restaurant is clean and well-maintained. There were few diners when we visited but the food is good - there was a brisk takeaway trade. Service is fine too.

I have been a customer of this family run Chinese restaurant and take away for many years, and can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal here in all that time. Whether you are looking for a take away, a group gathering, or an intimate meal for two, they always make you feel welcome, and aim to please.

This place used to be so well thought of. but it has definitely declined in recent years.The food was nice but the rest of the experience left a great deal to be desired. The restaurant itself is very dated and quite frankly needs a really good clean. The carpet is absolutely filthy, your feet actually stick it is so dirty, and it is in a very poor state of repair with large strips of black gaffer tape. The bathrooms are also in dire need of a revamp and, again, were dingy with months worth of dust on the walls and lampshades. If we hadn't been with a group we would have walked out without eating but didn't want to spoil the evening for the rest of our group. Service at the table was ok but when we walked in the girl on the front desk didn't even look up! Not a great welcome. We have used this place for take-aways but after seeing the condition of the restaurant we won't be using it again. Such a shame.

Perfect in every aspect no complaints whatsoever, the takeaway is equally as good.Very friendly and helpful staff you feel like one of the family

Fair menu at a fair price. But nothing special. They do offer quality take away service. But it's something I haven't used.

We love our takeaways from here, if we are having Chinese it has to be from here. The food is lovely and fresh and any requests are followed through.

The last time I ate at this Restaurant was over 12 years ago. It's been redecorated since then but is now looking a little tired around the edges and could do with a refurb perhapsThe food makes up for everything! The are jokes aplenty about Chinese food but go to this place with fresh eyesThe lemon chicken was gorgeous. Crunchy outside with a lovely moist centre full of flavour. Everything was beautifully cooked and piping hot. The crispy duck was easily one of the best I have had for years and worth going there just for thatA pleasant surprise and one I will be repeating as soon as I can

One of our favourite Take Away and a good restaurant to visit too. The food is lovely and with quite a different style to other similar outlets. I really like the Thai dishes but there is a lot more to choose besides. Take away food is delivered quickly and the restaurant staff are friendly and efficient. Well worth a trip to eat in or take away.

Wish I could visit this restaurant more often, the food is excellent, my favourite is the squid as a starter and the prawn sizzler for a main, so tasty!! I've tried several Chinese restaurants, but nothing compares to this one. Even though I live in Nuneaton I still travel to this one to eat Chinese food! Definitely recommend this place!!

We called in on spec and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, the helpful waiter, who was alone and dealing with their busy take away orders too.We would go again, actually we did but it was a Monday and they were closed..Would recommend and we will certainly go back.

Have tried other Chinese takeaways in Shepshed and none are better that Yam Sing. It's like most Chinese takeaways.....nice whilst eating it but instantly forgettable.

We love Yam Sing and walk round to pick up our food rather than have another deliver it.Eating in is great too- the mid week menu is brilliant for the family. High chairs are available for the smaller guests too.

Lovely food while eating in or having s take away. The decor could do with updating as has been the same for years. Starting to look a little run down. Only downside is being served Coke out of a bottle you but from the shop and usually is flat but on the hole a great place to eat and lovely friendly staff.

Yam Sing have been my family's favourite Chinese takeaway for over 20 years and I have always loved their food and service. Despite this, we had never sat in the restaurant for a meal ... Until yesterday. I was expecting to order from the regular menu and order my usual, but the menu included dishes not found on the takeaway menu and I was so pleasantly surprised with the extra choice. I tried some new dishes and as usual, was not disappointed. Try the chilli and salt squid - it's beautiful! We had a lovely evening thanks to the friendly staff and the fantastic food! I'll be sitting in again very soon!

I used to go to this restaurant when I lived in Shepshed 18 years ago and to say the décor hasn't changed at all or been decorated in that time is an understatement. Food was good quite tasty but was what i expected nothing out of the ordinary. Chairs and table were dirty. Couldn't really understand this when the restaurant was so empty. The whole place could do with an over hall its about time ! ESPECIALLY THE BATHROOMS..... We were served by a nice waiter a shame about the massive love bite he had on his neck ! MAYBE A POLO NECK JUMPER MAYBE MORE APPROPRIATE.

Always superb food, consistent and always piping hot, never waited more than 20 minutes for a takeaway, polite friendly staff and a pleasure to use!

All you can eat midweek deal. What more can I say, food was cooked lovely, staff were friendly and helpful. What more can I say.

This is by far the best Chinese around lovely food every time definitely my favourite place for Chinese only down point is they don't deliver

I have ben going here for several years and the food is the best in Shepshed. It has a more varied menu than most Chinese restaurants and the quality is consistently good. The mid-week buffet is also very good value for money. The service is very good - but it would be nice now and again to get something free like prawn crackers or the food delivered - which the other take-aways provide, but their food is just better, so that's why I keep going back.

Fantastic meal and good prices we went quite early so there were families with children not a problem for us if they behave

Visited this restaurant on the eve of our wedding anniversary. We've eaten in dozens of Chinese restaurants so feel we recognise quality food. Three out of four of our dishes were too salty, which resulted in us only being able to eat half of them. It takes a lot for us to complain but we did mention it to the owner. He said he'd check it out with the kitchen and returned to say that he'd tasted the food and it was fine, and that it couldn't be too salty since the sauces were bought in! Not a mark of quality I'm afraid. The owner was friendly, but no further mention was made and no reduction in our bill appeared, or even a complementary drink, since it was obviously deemed to be our problem and not theirs.

Nice venue lovely food...slightly expensive especially the drinks but a nice treat. The mid week menu is better value for money

Went here with work mates. And was very nice food with great service. The only bit that if I was being picky is the way you have to share which I find you don't get quite the quantity that if you was to have a take away but still lovely ...

Went to this restaurant mid week and chose the set meal where you can pick up to three dishes each from the starters and main course. We didn't order the maximum but we should have as the portion sizes were smaller than other restaurants so you probably needed all three each. I ordered spring rolls as my daughter said could I bring her one back! I asked the waiter if I could have a serviette to put a spring roll in and he said no! I said you are joking (because I honestly thought he was) and he said no again!! It was very awkward. None of us understood why we couldn't? We didn't order half of what we could have done so the restaurant were well in hand.... That aside the food was hot and reasonably tasty. Drinks were pricey - glass of wine £4.80. The service was poor. We were not offered dessert or coffee and at no point did the waiter ask if everything was OK. We were the last ones in the restaurant at 9.30 and we felt uncomfortable and left earlier than we wanted to. There was no inter action at all with the waiter and this detracted from the meal and atmosphere.

Used to eat from another takeaway but it was closed so we tried here, and we have never gone back. The food is tasty, good value and the staff as always so helpful. They take card and are happy to have you wait in the bar area until food is cooked. Have used these three times now and have never been disappointed.

We went in for the first time last Friday evening. Slightly dated decor, but clean and comfortable. There was a very extensive menu. We had the delux banquet for 4 and it was awesome! 4 courses, all beautifully cooked and the wine was delicious and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be going again!

I moved away from one of the best Cantonese/ Chinese take-aways in Leicester so finding this gem in Shepshed was a good find indeed.I can only comments from a take-away perspective as I have never eaten inside, but the place was busy (but quite warm) when I collected my food.The food was well cooked and of excellent quality - I shall be returning as this is definitely on a par with what I was used to - keep it up guys :-)Just please reduce the temperature in the restaurant - then perfect

I have eaten here on a few occasions and have always found the food to be great tasting and fresh, the service has always been polite and friendly. The eat in menu may be a little overpriced in some peoples eyes but is not excessively so, and good food is generally worth it in my opinion. Have also had takeaway from here before and found that to be again fresh and tasty- slightly unhelpful that there is no menu to be found online though.

Yam Sing would appear to have the monopoly on eat in chinese restaurants in Shepshed. We went for a meal on the 7th September, 2012, a Friday evening. The restaurant was empty apart from another couple and a birthday party, of around six people. The food was below average and mediocre, being expensive, around £8-9 for a main course without rice. When we have visited previously prawn crackers have been on the table, on this occasion we ordered some and a small basket arrived.The service was lack lustre, everything including ordering drinks, appeared to be a effort for the waiter. Throughout the meal, the telephone at the bar rang constantly, with takeaway orders (the takeaway menu is considerably cheaper). our bill was £32 for a diet coke, small glass of house wine, one beef chow mein, one sweet and sour pork, one portion of rice, one portion of prawn crackers and two banana fritters. We were charged £1.80 for the prawn crackers, when this was queried I was looked at as though I had just arrived from another planet. In future it will be worth going a few more miles to find another restaurant or alternatively eat different food. No you don,t need a reason to eat good food, but go somewhere else to find it!

Liked the food but was a bit shocked by the a la carte menu prices. Luckily heard some locals ask for the special weekday menu shame we hadn't been offered it in the first place. Service was a bit lacklustre the bloke serving couldn't be bothered being there.

I have eaten here quite a few times and never been disappointed their prices to Me seem to right and their Chefs know what they are doing ,could eat there anytime for any reason, but then who needs a reason to eat good food,not Me see you there maybe.

We have eaten at Yam Sing a number times and had take-aways from there many times and the food has always been of a very high standard and very tasty. The menu is extensive and the take-away prices are good value. The eat-in prices are a little on the high side, however, and the bottled Chinese beer is very expensive at the thick end of £4.00 per 330ml bottle. Although the staff are very attentive and polite and the service is good, the atmosphere could be better. Having said that, it is well worth a visit.
