Really lovely authentic curry, lovely that they can adapt the spiciness. Service was friendly and the lovely lady gave us great advice. The Himalayan lamb curry was our favourite.

It is Nepalese and they take guest friendliness and service super seriously, very nice! We had some buffalo and the dumplings, very interesting taste! It is not haute cousine but honest, tasteful and not expensive. The beer was quite steep in price, but it came directly from Nepal. So OK.

Always wanted to try this place as it’s near our local pub and to say we were not disappointed is an understatement. Fresh chicken chilli, pork belly curry, chowmeim, prawn rice and the chilli chips were amazing. We’re be a bit more adventurous next time as it was our 1st visit and people said it was spicy but unless you ask it’s ok, I asked for hot chicken chilli but it was madras heat which is fine but the taste was amazing. Very plain restaurant decor but the food speaks for itself.

Funny little building that houses a good restaurant serving good food that is obviously cooked by people that care. Service was good and prices fair for what is served up.

The food is absolutely delicious. Freshly cooked to order, varied menu, good portions. A small, unpretentious place in Old Town with good service (although not quick as it is cooked fresh). Excellent value too. A definite 5 stars. Will return very soon.

The food is incredible here. There is a lot of choice and variety on the menu, so there will be something for everyone. The flavours are distinct and rich, the portion sizes are generous and they are all very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back to try more dishes!

This place is a little gem, if you want authentic, delicious, beautifully presented Nepalese food with courteous and efficient service then come to the Himalayan Yak in Old Town , you won’t be disappointed. You have to try the Buffalo Chilli Mono’s they are a little taste sensation!

Our visit here today was to dine before going to see two famous comedians in a live show here in Swindon. This performance started at 19:30 and we had been advised to arrive 30 minutes before. We had reserved a table here at 17:30 as the show venue was only 10 minutes walk away. In the event we pitched up here at about 17:05, but the restaurant was already open. As you would expect (given the time) the restaurant wasn’t busy and during our stay there were no other diners. First impressions were mixed: the place was a bit tired and some redecoration is needed, but part from the grimy window blinds it looked clean. There was air-conditioning pumping out a good heat; much needed as it was a cold and very squally evening. We were shown to our table and promptly provided with menus. We ordered a coffee for my Partner, it was instant, and very ordinary (as indicated by the manager who served us), but it was hot, warming and welcomed. I chose a Mango Mogu Mogu (a still fruit drink) which was really excellent. It had the sweetness of the fruit, but without added sugar, and the drink contained small lumps of whole fruit that didn’t all sink to the bottom of the glass. It was refreshing and much enjoyed. The Mogu Mogu was also available with a Lychee base. We ordered some poppadums served with a very small ramekin of satay sauce. This poppadum side dish was in fact provided free. The two poppadums were excellent being superbly light and crispy with no trace of oil. We then shared a starter of Himalayan Pork Ribs: four roasted ribs marinated in soya sauce and five spices, served (as offered) at a hot (chilli) heat. A few peppers, fried onions and a salad garnish was included. This was served with sweet chilli dip. The ribs were very good indeed; a good meat content and, being roasted, they were not sticky, and thus not messy. To accompany our mains we ordered two servings of Himalayan mixed fried rice: Nepalese style rice fried in ghee with eggs, prawn, carrot, green peas and cumin. This was excellent and the flavour of ghee (an ingredient that we use when cooking Indian dishes at home) was noted and enjoyed. My Partner chose a main of the Himalayan Chicken: Stir-fried (small) pieces of chicken cooked with mixed peppers, onion, cabbage, broccoli, garlic with soya sauce and lemon juice. This was again served (as offered) at a hot (chilli) heat. This was a quite dry dish and my Partner needed the water that she also ordered, I tried some, but preferred my own choice. For my main I chose the Himalayan Lamb Curry: a Nepali lamb curry cooked with tomato onion sauce, with green beans. This was served (as offered) at a medium (chilli) heat. This was excellent, in fact outstanding: great spice flavours, and the sauce was the perfect consistency to go with the dry rice. The meat was beautifully trimmed to ensure that there no fat or (worse) gristle ended-up on my plate. Portions were reasonably generous, and perhaps in the recent past I might have wanted more, but that was when I was two stones heavier! As we had a little time to kill we opted to take desserts. My Partner ordered Chocolate Fudge Cake: Chocolate cake served with whipping cream, chocolate sauce and a milk chocolate flake. This was obviously bought-in, but that’s fine and it was enjoyed. I ordered a selection of ice-cream: being vanilla, chocolate & strawberry, with chocolate sauce, a fan waffle and a milk chocolate flake. The strawberry flavour had the best texture, but the vanilla was substantially ice-crystalized and the chocolate slightly less so. My suspicion was that the crystallization was due to the ice cream having become defrosted and then refrozen. It was a over-generous portion of fairly cheap ice cream and therefore nothing very special. I would go again and probably have the Lamb Curry as would my Partner who missed it on the menu. Overall the meal was much enjoyed: the starters and mains are what we came here for and the flavours were great, but we would forgo coffee and ice cream next time. As to my rating; I would feel it unfair to deduct anything on the basis of the coffee and the ice cream as it was our decisions to order them. Both of these items were extras and not the main product of the kitchen. If we hadn’t ordered them the meal would have been excellent in every respect, and the service both pleasant and efficient.

We love Yak! There's always a warm welcome from Jayanti and the team. The food is tasty (tried the chow mein for the first time tonight and it was delicious - now my favourite!) and you have to try the Momo's. We come here regularly for family celebrations and take away too. Plus, there's enough choice on the menu to cater for vegetarians and vegans too. Highly recommend.

Really good meal, served by friendly helpful staff. There were 4 of us in our family group (Mum, Dad & 2 adult children). The staff listened to our requirements, one with a cows milk intolerance and one not able to cope with very spicy food and adjusted the dishes accordingly. It’s a little bit of “a needle in a haystack “ scenario when looking for a good place to eat in Swindon on a wet Wednesday in March! However, I think (I know) I got lucky ( a first for everything!) The restaurant, although small ( 6 tables downstairs) was busy. The staff a little sullen, but I can live with that. The wine choice was good ( rose selection) and the menu interesting. A Himalayan lamb dish to start, followed by a pork belly curry. Couldn’t fault it , and for £40 including drinks and complimentary popadoms to start, it was more than fair.

We visited this weekend for the first time. We were with friend who had been before and it was just lovely. Beautiful presentation and attentive service. I loved that you are asked what level of spice you would like in your meal.

We are here last night. The place was busy and the service was efficient and prompt. We had the ribs and some of the mimosa to start which were out of this world yummy. We fought over the last rib For main we shared some of the bread and and rice and I had a chicken curry and my partner had a spicy lamb curry. Both were delicious and a nice portion size (I can often feel overwhelmed with the amount of food but this was not the case) We both had one of the local beers for Nepal. All in all really nice. Place could do with a bit of a freshen up, but apart from that really nice

Wow! We were celebrating some good news and decided we wanted a tasty treat to eat. We have missed Yak during lockdown and checked out the website. We phoned and ordered Himalayan Pork Ribs, Vegetable Samosa to start, Everest Lamb, Himalayan Pork Belly and Bhuteko...

We visited on the first evening after lockdown. There was a good atmosphere and we were made most welcome. We had the thali trays which were delicious with a good variety of small dishes that added up to a very tasty meal.

The restaurant was very nice. The starters were delicious and the mains were even better. I would recommend the sukuti a tasty buffalo dish. All in all a very tasty restaurant. (written by my 11 and 7yr old sons)

The food here is excellent and a little different. We visited with our son and his wife this month but have visited a few time before and always enjoyed the meal. Nice Gurkha beer too.

We visited Yak The Himalayan Kitchen this evening and I knew I wanted to post a review as soon as we got home. It was our first time visiting after many recommendations and we weren’t left disappointed. Not only was the food unreal, the staff were so lovely and friendly as well. We will 100% be returning and recommending to family & friends. Also it is brilliant that this restaurant are supporting the Eat Out To Help Out scheme - 3 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides & 3 alcoholic drinks came to £30!! Food Recommendation - Chicken Wings (Starter)!!! The BEST chicken we’ve ever had.

We are massive Nepalese food fans and this place didn’t disappoint. Had momos and ribs for starters both excellent. The mains chicken curry and Everest lamb with fried rice were also excellent, the owner was super friendly and all staff had masks.

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but only just had the opportunity. They don’t open until 5pm, so don’t do lunches, which is a shame.The meal started with a complimentary popadom & dip, which was very tasty. For my starter, I chose the Pork Chilli Momo. I was asked how spicy I wanted it, which I thought was a nice touch. I chose hot and it was excellent. I have had Moro’s several times before, but thought this was the best. A warning though - the starter is large so very filling.For my main I had the Sagarmatha Chicken Curry - very tasty.An excellent meal - thoroughly recommended.

We came for dinner with two friends who hadn’t been before. The service was excellent; extremely warm and friendly. We had the vegetable momos, veg samosas and ribs to start, then the Himalayan lamb, chicken and vegetable with fried rice. Perfect portion sizes and absolutely beautifully cooked. We will definitely be back.

Great foods and friendly service. Service was a little slow but it was a Saturday evening and pretty full. Momo’s were fabulous. I had the set menu dinner while eating there had the Everest Lamb with rice. Very enjoyable. It was a very enjoyable evening would definitely return.

We’ve been to Nepal a couple of times and it’s a real pleasure to find such authentic food in Swindon. Our starters of chicken wings and Chat were so tasty and our lamb curry and Himalayan chicken mains were really well spiced but not too hot. The homemade lemonade was a real treat and the Gurkha beer (brewed under license in the uk), washed the meal down nicely.

Visited here with colleagues and partners to celebrate Christmas. Chosen largely because it made a nice change from Turkey etc. Had no particular expectations beforehand but really impressed with the food and the service levels.I chose Lamb Chilli Momo to start and the Himalayan Chicken with Fried Rice for main and it was fantastic. A little drier than many Indian curry's but went really well together and certainly had plenty of spice!Thoroughly recommend this place if you fancy trying something a little different in the area.

Having returned recently from holiday in Nepal, we were missing the food and beer so came here!We love it here anyway as the service, food and surroundings are perfect.Veg chilli momo is amazing and the fish curry and chilli chicken are lovely too!The staff are so friendly and it was great that they spent time with us to hear of a Nepal trip too, genuine nice people.We booked to introduce more people to Yak for next week before we left too!!

The food was so tasty and they ask how hot/spicy you would like your meal. Definitely booking again. The Gurkha beer was lovely and the house red I can recommend. This place is brilliant. I have been a number of times over the last year and still find the food, the staff and atmosphere just amazing. Being vegetarian there are loads of options to choose from, same goes for meat eaters and their homemade lemonade is to die for. Highly, highly recommend.food is plentiful and the price is very good for thw quality of food you are getting.

My first time visiting Swindon for a not-great, must-do event and just walking through the town looking for a place to eat we walked past and popped in and fortunately there was a table free. I'm vege, my son full carnivore and we were both well catered for - great food (good vege choice - though always annoying when you have a choice of 10 gorgeous sounding dishes and you actually have to pick one, wheras used to usually only having a couple with one more obviously good in most places), excellent service and all very good value on top.

Visited this restaurant on a quiet Sunday evening. We had the buffalo momo and the vegetarian momo, both with chillies to start. The plate was filled and they were excellent. We both really enjoyed them. For mains we had the Himalayan mixed vegetables and Everest lamb, both with vegetable fried rice (bhuteko bhat). Again, excellent! I asked for everything to be as spicy as possible, my son asked for medium. We were both perfectly satisfied. Amazing meal and lovely staff. We'll definitely return

A great meal, exceptional staff who double check your choice of order when you mention allergies, good value, each dish was perfectly cooked and unique flavours, as meals are cooked to order the heat can be adjusted. Unlike many places it does change and the hot samosas were hot, but very tasty.

We've had Nepalese before and always enjoyed it. Despite living in Swindon this is a part of town we tend not to visit - this time it came about after a random web search whilst in Highworth. The pub food on offer was the same old . . Boring !

Lovely friendly people, relaxed atmosphere and great food at reasonable prices. The Nepalese hot coffee with roasted rice seeds and strong brandy was something else - loved it!

This small setting palce serves delicious nepalese food. Places are limited so booking in advance is recommended. The food is always fresh with touch of nepalese herbs and spices. Reasonablily priced..a must visit if you are in Swindon.

This was a mixed experience . . . . some of the food was excellent and some was just OK. We had king prawns and Himalayan pork ribs to start. King prawns should be succulent and juicy if they're cooked properly. Unfortunately these weren't, they were slightly overcooked and therefore too dry. On the other hand, the ribs were very nice. For mains we had Everest lamb and Himalayan chicken. The lamb was as nice as I could have hoped for. The chicken was very tasty but a bit too dry for our taste.

We went here after reading all of the great reviews and left feeling underwhelmed . The dumpling we had for starter hadn't been sealed well and were water logged. This mixed with the pork fat was really horrible. The main portions are very small. I just had a ramikin size dish of curry and the same of rice. The Dahl was also tiny and very runny. Will not be heading back.

Impromptu decision to eat out on a Friday night and I was given the task of deciding where. So I plumped for Yak, as a) cuisine appealed to me and b) not tried it before. So we arrived to a warm smiling reception and, despite not booking, they were happy to accommodate us. We had drinks, complimentary poppadoms, starters to share, 2 mains and a rice, more drinks, no dessert and spent £46. I can recommend the ribs and lamb momo for starters, we had the pork belly and Himalayan chicken for mains. Service with a smile too. Happily go there again and try more of the menu options. Thanks Yak, I’ll be back.

Visited the Yak after a recommendation and we absolutely loved the food. Totally authentic food packed with flavour. Tried the Gurkha beer which was very nice. Staff were really friendly and we really enjoyed a relaxing evening. Give it it a go, I'm so glad we did.

Overall I can only say very complimentary things about this restaurant. The customer service is genuinely first class - I do not think it can be faulted. Very friendly and attentive. The quality of the food is quite excellent - beautiful flavours and very authentic. Definitely a place to put on your list of places to visit.

Fantastic food and great service! I can’t recommend this restaurant enough! Have been telling everyone about it. The food is made fresh and the ingredients are outstanding. Our favourite is the chilli momo and the homemade lemonade the food I so fresh and packed with flavour, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Hubby and I visited this restaurant last night and had such a wonderful meal that I was compelled to come here and write a review. The food was fabulous! We had ribs and Bhaktapur Chhoila with chicken to start. The ribs were succulent and meaty and the Bhaktapur Chhoila was incredibly tasty...the rice flakes add a really nice crunch to the dish. We asked for both spicy and it was spot on! For our main we shared rice, black dhal and their chicken curry...it was divine! We will definitely be back!

If you haven't been here you are missing out. Staff are lovely and the food is authentic and delicious. I have been here a few times and the food is always great, try the pork Chili Momo its amazing. I cannot fault anything about this place, yes its small but that adds to its charm. I cant imagine anyone not coming away from this lovely restaurant happy.

After getting bored of our usuals, we decided to try Yak the Himalayan Kitchen. We really weren’t disappointed! The staff are really friendly and eager to help you. The food came quick and was delicious. Really couldn’t fault the restaurant at all and we’re glad we decided to expand our horizons!
