Had a lovely coffee and lunch catch-up with a friend in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The café is conveniently located near a handy walk and hillside, making it an ideal stop before or after a stroll. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the laid-back vibe. I had a beautifully presented ruby mocha—both visually stunning and delicious—and the food was fresh and full of flavour. A great spot to unwind and reconnect. Highly recommended!

I have been to Y Shed on numerous occasions, and have enjoyed the ambience and the food and experienced good customer service. Today, however, we unfortunately did not have the same experience. We arrived at around 2pm, and granted, the café was busy. At that point there was nowhere to sit, apart from outside. It was a very cold day, and with two 5 year olds and a 3 year old, it was not an appropriate option to sit outside, so in spite of the 30 minute wait that we were informed of, we still decided to place an order and wait for a table to become available in the meantime. It became obvious from the outset that the server involved in our experience, was harassed and less than thrilled to be working under the circumstances. My 3 year old put his hand on a mop that was near the exit, on the customer facing side of the counter, immediately the server yelled ‘whoever is touching the mop, leave it alone please!’ I spoke to my son to tell him to leave it alone, but in all honesty, there shouldn’t have been a mop left out in a customer facing area anyway. Whilst placing our orders, my boys were looking excitedly at the cakes and pointing at what they’d like. Their enthusiasm was soon extinguished by the server who informed us in an abrupt way that the cakes were not going to be ready for at least 10 minutes. Now, I’m not sure what the point of telling us this was as we had already been told that the wait was going to be half an hour anyway. I also cannot understand why they would have the cakes out on display if they were not ready to be served. It was starting to become obvious that the server was irritated, and I almost felt like he was getting some sort of satisfaction out of disappointing us/ trying to put us in our place. It really felt like our custom was unwelcome. Due to how cold it was, and the unavailability of seats inside, we were stood in front of the cake stands, The server came over and rudely directed us to move over and stand by the balcony on the stairs so that his colleagues could get to the cakes etc. Ok fine, ask us to move, but there was not a hint of politeness in his tone with the manner of how he asked us, and no consideration for the fact we had three young children with us. Whilst we were waiting for a table to become available, it was frustrating to note that there were customers who had long since finished their orders; there was one woman with three children who were sat there eating rice cakes that had clearly not been purchased in the café. Although this is beyond the café’s control, it might be worth considering a table time limit during busy periods, especially when you have still gone ahead and taken orders that people have paid for who are waiting for tables. Finally, just as our order was being brought to the counter, a table along one of the breakfast bar style areas with the high stools became available. We were making our way over, from the area that the server had told us to wait in because we were in the way, when another customer came upstairs from outside and took a seat there. This customer had not placed an order at this point I must add. My friend said to the server ‘that’s where we were going to sit, and our order is ready now’ to which his sarcastic reply was ‘first come, first served’. Now, I might add that we were first and had already paid, to be spoken to like this at this point was beyond rude and disrespectful. My friend said that because our food was ready, the staff needed to ask the customer to move and wait, like we had been doing. The server then told my friend that SHE should be the one to ask the customer to move! We were incredulous at this point, and eventually another much younger member of staff was told by the server to ask the lady to move. We were then informed that the customer had kindly moved; as if we should be grateful for that!! As we were on our way over to the table the server inferred that if we were to sit in the walkway on chairs we would be making a fire hazard. At that point I had taken enough comments from this person. I said it’s not our fault that the design of the restaurant is such that you’ve got such small walk ways around the balcony! Again it was being implied that we were at fault, and we just felt so unwelcome. The server also picked that moment to complain about our scooters being in the way outside- now not all of the scooters were ours, there was a much bigger family with lots out there, but he seemed in no rush to say anything to them about them. Maybe because they were regulars, I don’t know, but at this point it felt like we were being targeted, and like he was taking out his stresses of the day on us. I informed the server that I did not like his tone, I’ve worked in hospitality and management for years, and I couldn’t believe the way we were being treated. I made my points clear, and his response was to try and talk over me, then he said he needed to ‘collect himself’ which demonstrates that he was not behaving professionally if he felt that. There was absolutely no empathy from him whatsoever for the way he had made us feel. He said it wasn’t his intention, but ultimately I said he needed to take accountability for how he had made us feel as customers. He said ‘I told you there was a wait’, never once did we complain about the wait, which shows he wasn’t listening. Our issue was with how we were made to feel due to his sarcasm, disdain and lack of empathy. What should have been a nice sit down with my friends and our children as we took a break from our walk, turned in to a stressful situation where I ended up feeling I had no alternative to tell this person just how terrible their service was. Ultimately, if it was going to be that difficult to accommodate us, the staff should not have allowed us to place an order and taken our money. I really don’t think a customer facing role is for this particular server; he most certainly doesn’t have the skill set. Interestingly, when I got home and started to explain what happened to my husband, he knew exactly who I was talking about and said he had experienced him being sarcastic as well. So disappointed, and I will not be visiting in the future.

What a lovely place. Staff were very helpful and accommodating of my children's dairy intolerance. A group of 8 of us enjoyed hot drinks and brunch sat outside looking at the stunning view. Thank you! We are looking forward to returning to try the delicious looking cakes!

Went to get a drink and staff just stared at me whilst they spoke to there friends inside the restaurant. Only wanted a take out drink. Poor service and whilst she was gossiping away there was a young girl working away trying to do the orders. Don’t be rude! Also the water was warm 😂

Tepid microwave dinners at restaraunt prices. We visited on a sunday morning on a way home from an overnight stay. I ordered the folded roast and my son had a beef baguette. The food was cold, the 'roast' potatoes were still frozen and it was served with cold microwave vegetables as a side. Bland, borning and tasteless food. My sons baguette looked like a meal deal from Tesco and the 'fresh' orange juice was bottled juice served warm. The nice view from the cafe doesn't save the place and left disappointed and hungry. If you're looking for freshly cooked meals and tastey food I'd keep driving straight passed this place.

Awful. How difficult can it be to serve two coffees? They managed to foul it up here. You order at the counter, where the waitress happily served a queue-jumper first. We then waited for fifteen minutes. The waitress then delivered the wrong order. The whole process took 20 minutes. Coffee, when it finally arrived, was ok. Never again.

Had rang several times to see if the lift was working, nobody answered and didn't get back. On arriving there, the table wasn't cleared away, a member of our party cleared the table and asked for a cloth to wipe table. Food left on floor. The order for coffees got completely mixed up, I had my meal first, several issues with other meals, one member of the party had been forgotten, so had eaten our meals by the time she got hers, which was warm on the outside and cold on the inside.

We had not been for several months and from our experience today it’s clear that the new owners of Y Shed (Tu Mondo) have come on in leaps and bounds since our last visit! Our filled baguettes were very good but the quality of the coffee and the incredible range of cakes on offer AND their freshness was what really bowled us over. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Lovely cafe and really friendly staff, Dreadful coffee. My partner had a cappuccino, it was tepid and very weak. I had an americano which was again weak. For the price of them I would expect much better. Such a shame as it’s in such a good spot and the staff are lovely. I think coffee and drinks training is very much needed.

We came across this as we were doing part of the Dyserth heritage trail. They bought fresh water for our dog and bought our drinks to our outside table. The museum downstairs is fascinating history of the Dyserth to Prestation railway line with knowledgeable and helpful staff. They even let me borrow a book about the line while I was drinking my coffee upstairs, and offered to scan in any particular picture I wanted. A community project that is well worth supporting Known locally as the shed I could have stayed longer but we needed to get back to Dyserth

Visited today with friends after walking the Dyserth track. Chose tea to drink but was surprised that it came in a tea cup instead of the usual teapot with an overfilled bag of tea leaves and only half full of water; bag so full it was rock hard and the water in the cup was unable to soak into the bag to give a decent brew and it wasn’t tied off so the leaves were coming out into the tea. My sisters bag burst in the tea and although they changed it we spoke to a waitress about overfilling the bags who gave us a blank stare nodded and walked off. If you are going to charge £2.60 for a cup of tea at least fill the cup up with hot water and don’t squash as many tea leaves into the bag that it won’t brew. Think it will be a while before I venture into Y Shed again.

We stopped here for a tea and coffee and decided to have some food as well. The portions were generous, beautifully presented and well priced. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxing, gentle background music and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The staff were very polite and obviously enjoy working here. We also loved the local crafts and reading the history of Y Shed and Meliden. We'll done everyone! We will be making more visits in the future!

This is the third time I have visited since the new owners took over, (Tu Mondo, Prestatyn). Not sure if I will go back, menu limited, not inspiring enough. Nothing on the ‘special board’s as before, (they were all blank) very quiet, even though it was a Saturday. Decor good, music dour, cross between hymns! And some Christmas tunes, what I could hear. Just no atmosphere. I had soup, same type I had had previously, not sure if they do anything different to tomato, it was cold had to send it back to be reheated. It’s such a shame, lovely space, didn’t stay around to sample the cakes.

Meliden Tu Mundo yn Y Shed New owners from Tu-Mundo We can confirm it’s as good as it was. Thank you for the bacon bap (after breakfast time had finished 9-11) maybe you might consider breakfast until 12?? Lovely morning walk along the old railway path and stopped for brunch. Similar decor to Tu-Mundo cafe in Prestatyn high street and just as nice. Good menu choices and about right prices 👍 Interesting history of the place and interactive for children to learn downstairs in the entrance. Lift available for the cafe upstairs. Lovely sunny day so nice to sit outside with either the mountain view or sea views at the front. Take away gluten free chocolate cakes, gosh can’t tell the difference very yummy 👏👏👏

They have taken an original rail line storage building and turned it into a wonderful historical and fabulous food stop. The walk alone is enchanting and loads of wonderful birds to hear as you walk. Then about 30 min into the walk you find this well done oasis with outdoor seating on a beautiful day. There is historical display teaching you about the rail line and mining in that area. Beautiful local hand made crafts from the area are also for sale in this building. The cafe has a very large selection of breakfast, sandwiches and sweet items. Well done!
