Ffordd Derwen in Denbighshire

Sunday lunch for 3. Pre booked. It was our first visit here and it was fairly busy and had a warm friendly atmosphere.Warm welcome and prompt efficient service with drinks offered and served quickly. Friendly service in taking the orders. Food arrived quickly. Food was delicious, Meat was tender and everything was nicely cooked, hot with good size portions. Checked back with us twice that everything was ok and if we needed anything. Chef came around to check we enjoyed our meals near the end of our visit. We would recommend and will definitely come again when visiting family.

A very warm welcome on every occasion, absolutely spotless, lovely atmosphere food amazing and I always have a soft drink and always asked if you would like ice and fruit. Lovely outside seating area very clean. Since coming here in the last 6 months I wouldn't go to anywhere else now to eat, it's first class 100 percent.

We had our work Christmas party here, I hadn't preordered the food, but that wasn't an issue, , Graham was very accommodating. The food was delicious, served in a timely manner and all hot. Overall, the staff are really nice and friendly, but Graham went above and beyond to accommodate our requirements. When I went to pay the bill, there was an issue over the deposit and the tills crashed! Graham was very professional, calm and polite, and sorted it out quickly. I can't recommend the Ffordd Derwen highly enough, great friendly atmosphere, beautiful food, a great place to relax! Sunday lunch last week. Wow just wow. Food excellent, good sized portions even the child's serving would have been enough for most adults. One member of our party asked for apple sauce, they didn't have any, no biggy. But maybe just 5 minutes into our meal one of the waiting staff appeared with a brand new jar of apple sauce the Manager had actually sent a staff member across the road to buy some. Happy customer. Well done The Derwen.

. Pleasant staff . Nice food which was served quickly .. 2 of us had rump steaks which were nicely cooked medium rare not over done. Other 2 had chicken fillet burgers which were brilliant value huge size and had a nice sauce with them.. Would go again.

The staff were friendly and found us an available table as we hadn't pre booked. It was already busy with large parties so it was nice that we didn't have to wait long for the food. We had the Philly cheese steak baguette and steak. Both were lovely.

Just been to the Ffordd Derwyn for dinner, met by Graham the manager friendly as ever, showed us to our seats, within 5min’s ordered our food and drinks, nice pint of Fosters Lager and a pint of Cider, our meals arrived within 15min’s of order piping hot and cooked to perfection. Very enjoyable meal look forward to our next visit

Came here on Bonfire night with two friends. For food and drinks before the fireworks over the road. The lady who served the food was lovely and that was about it. We'd ordered burgers from their limited Bonfire night menu and when the food came I wished I'd just stuck with the drinks. The fries were so anaemic that they had to be sent back so they could be put in the fryer. My friend's burger was completely wrong so that went back. His burger came back quite quickly but mine came back with cooked fries and the wrong burger. When I sent that back it was then literally forgotten about. When it did eventually come out. It was the dullest-tasting burger I've had in 10 years. As for getting served at the bar, it was nearly impossible as they didn't have enough staff to manage the volume of customers coming in due to it being Bonfire night. Will not eat hear ever again and will never recommend it to anyone.

The food is absolutely immense the staff and the owners make you feel very welcome and they can't do enough to make your time there anymore pleasant 10/10 100% recommend and the prices are great and the food is so so nice and fresh

Bonfire night at the Derwen is always a great night and last night was no exception! Very very busy as usual but very well organised to get everyone served before the fireworks started - thought I had posted this but as bonfire is around the corner...

Two tables came in after us and got there order before us as we were just sitting there waiting to order as it said we only had an hour slot. And you can’t stay for a drink after your meal as you can’t stand by the bar and can’t find anywhere to sit either as I would like to be able to talk and have a drink as I am local and know a lot of people. So this puts me off a bit. As I used as my local a few years back and now suffering a bad hip pain is it nice to be able to chill out with friends after a meal and be able to sit down after

The staff were great, welcoming and attentive. My salad was amazing, really well put together. The Sunday dinner however was at totally the other end of the spectrum. The smallest bowl of soup for a starter. Rock hard yorkshire pudding but swimming with oil in the middle, roast potatoes obviously deep fried, veg was dry, hardly any mash on the plate. A total disappointment and wouldn't risk recommending the food to anyone if this is the standard they might get.

The pub was busy but the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the plates were lovely and hot, the food was all freshly done, presented beautifully and delicious, leftovers came home in doggy bags so we could have pud!

No roast available on a Sunday at 5pm when they were empty

Arrived today for Sunday lunch without a reservation but got a table due to a cancellation. Food was excellent & great table service. Will be going back very soon.

Arrived with no reservation, and got a Sunday roast each.Quite a plate full, served hot, and cooked superbly. Cost £12.90 each. Bring an appetite if you go to this one! Recommend getting a reservation

Nice little pub, very quiet when we were there. The only problem is the maitre de is very rude. The attitude in which he speaks to you leaves a lot to be desired.

A very warm friendly welcome orders were taken and delivered to the table promptly. Good value for money and probably the best steak I’ve had in Rhyl this year. Will definitely be visiting again.

We absolutely love this place, the food is absolutely gorgeous the service is fantastic, they really make you feel at home and are very welcoming and super friendly, they always do that little bit extra to make your evening better. I had the mixed grill in the photo, wish I had the stomach to tackle the mega mix grill lol

We are a family of 4, when I made the reservation I’d forgotten to add the kids onto the booking but that was no problem for the staff, they quickly seated us and reorganised cutlery for us. The food was fantastic and served quickly without compromising quality. We paid with a gift voucher that we had received and even though the staff had never dealt with one before they still handled it efficiently. Even though the pub/restaurant was busy nothing was too much trouble and we were made welcome despite our family being from out of town. To the older gentleman that served us…give that man a pay rise! He was engaging with the kids made them feel at ease and they enjoyed everything

We went for a family meal ,, the food was lovely and value for money the waitresses were very pleasant and hard working, the main things g that put us all off was the manager , quite frankly he was very rude to customers and his staff ,, apart from bad management it was really nice

Called tonight for tea. To be honest have had better meals in there.. Was very busy. Lovely atmosphere. One member of staff (think her name was Alison)) shone out. Was very hard working looked after all the customers. She seemed to be on her own only for a young chap. Who was very pleasant.... This young lady was friendly courteous and could not do enough for the customers. As for the other member of bar staff, what can I say!!! Would walk away from customers and made out to look busy .. There is no l in team. Unfortunately it was so shocking to see this young lady under so much pressure. Even though she coped so well. So much respect for her. As for the other lady why is she in hospitality?????

Where do I begin!! From the abrupt and patronizing welcome I should’ve known what we were in for….. Graham treated everyone that walked through the door, went up to the bar, asked him a question like they were an annoyance! Maybe he was having a bad day? Nevertheless, when you work in hospitality it won’t fare you well with that kind of attitude! Also woe betide you if you DIDN’T BOOK A TABLE for a simple “pub lunch”🙄 Food was nothing great, but not inedible. But if you want a friendly pub atmosphere it’d be best to avoid!

Fantastic first visit, friendly staff awesome food would recommend. First visit in a long time. The food was well cooked and a good sized portion. We had steak and chips with peas, onion rings and a Diane sauce nice mid week treat. I can recommend the ultimate southern fried chicken burger very tasty

Came here for lunch on Wednesday and wasn’t disappointed food was excellent thank you Andy he even came out to ask if all was okay , had a warm welcome from Alison who I must say was amazing, all on her own she served tables took orders and manned the bar and made sure everyone was seated , feed and had drinks , will definitely be back .

Fantastic meal tonight with the family, food was excellent, service was excellent (Graham was on point and as usual was very attentive), can't complain about anything to be honest as mains were great, sweets were great, service was great, would definitely recommend, well done to all involved 👍

We were shown to a table, and ordered from an extensive and exciting menu. The service was excellent, and the food was hot, arrived quickly and was of a high standard. The chef came out to ask how the food was, and there were clean plates all round ! Atmosphere was friendly and there were families also enjoying the ambience. We prebooked and that proved a good move as it was very busy. We got a warm welcome and, after being taken to our table, we're given time to check out the menu while our drinks were being sorted. The Menu has a good variety of meals to suit all diners and we ordered starters (soup and piri piri wings) and mains (fish and chips and a chicken and mushroom pie with peas and mash) . The food was piping hot and (compliments to the kitchen team) came on hot plates 🔥🍽👏👏👏 While my soup portion was quite small 😭 it was very tasty as was all the food we ordered. The staff team were all excelent and attentive without being too gushy. It was out first visit prompted by receiving a flyer with 30% off mains voucher (suited my Yorkshire heritage) but we will dind there again without fail.

Amazing meal for my group all pleased with the food and loved the selection of beers available. The service was attentive and the pub was spotless!! I have been to a lot of local places and this was the best value and we will certainly be returning…

Needed to clean cutlery and cups because of how horrible the dirt was on them but the food was quite nice I ordered the chicken burger and chips the chips and the fries where nice and crispy and soft on the inside the bun was nice and the chicken burger was very flavourful my mother said the lasagna was nice and the garlic bread was nice and crispy my sister said the sausage and mash was good and my father said the steak was standard

WE ARE FREQUENT VISITORS TO THE FFORDD DERWYN WHERE WE ARE ALWAYS WARMLY RECEIVED. WHEN WE ARRIVED FOR THIS PARTICULAR VISIT, THE PLACE WAS QUIET AND WE WERE SERVED OUR FOOD AN DRINK WITHOUT DELAY. AFTER STARTING OUR MEAL, PEOPLE STARTED COMING IN ONE AFTER THE OTHER AND PICKING UP THE MENUS.IT REALLY GOT QUITE BUSY. TRUE TO FORM, HOWEVER, ALISON WAS ON THE BALL TAKING ORDERS AND SERVING THE DRINKS DOING HER UTMOST TO LIMIT ANY POTENTIAL DELAYS. SMILING FACES ALL ROUND................

Went here tonight for our wedding anniversary. Hubby had the best gammon he's ever eaten, I had rump steak with cheese and bacon topper.....cooked to my exact specification (very well done) absolutely beautiful. Granddaughter had bbq chicken burger and really enjoyed it. We also had desserts which were superb. Graham was very attentive throughout as was the young waitress whose name I didn't catch. Lovely place we will be back.

I have not been to a Marstons pub that has been soo cleaned, welcoming and rewarding before. We came for lunch and drinks. The hostess was welcoming, well mannered and presentable. The food options were great, reasonably priced and tasted even better. I would highly recommend and I will definitely be back again. Thanks to all of the staff, I hope you get to read this review.

Sunday lunch was superb. Turkey dinner had generous portions with beautifully cook veg. Staff friendly. Not only accepted my assistance dog but said that it was a pleasure to have him. Best place to eat in the area. Definitely recommend.

I found the meet and greet waiter to be condescending upon seating us. Questioned my use of the word doable when I asked to swop peas for beans. (Yes Graham it's a real word). My food came (sausage and mash with onion gravy). At best it was bland. Rubbery sausage, burnt onions, and tasteless mash that did not appear fresh. A side order of garlic bread - burnt!! I then saw Graham light a cigarette at the door of the kitchen, before going outside to smoke it. I was utterly shocked at this. The waitress came out to collect plates, I mentioned that I wouldn't recommend. She politely apologised and the chef then came out to speak to me. Only to be told that the food has to be bland because so many people have allergies. He also admitted to the job of being a chef doesn't exist because of it. And his resolution was if I come back; don't have sausage and mash again. Very defensive and completely unapologetic.
